I hate to say you told me so, but you told me so. My decision to switch servers from Rackspace to Go Daddy to save mondo dollars was an unmitigated disaster. Not only did we lose service and posts (which will be restored) and traffic, we also lost comment functionality. Despite Stephen Malanshak’s best indeed super-human efforts, Humpty Dumpty couldn’t be put back together again. So, with e-tail between my legs, I’ve made the decision to go back to the Rack. Look for massive cloud cover by the weekend. Meanwhile, I apologize to TTAG’s readers deeply and completely for all the commenting tsuris. Rest assured it will NOT happen again. At least not because of me being penny wise and pound foolish. I promise to make it up to you by redoubling TTAG’s efforts to be the best damn gun blog in the history of the world, ever. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Meh. No need to fall on your sword. You’ve got to do what you think is best for your business. If you don’t try new things that make sense at the time, you won’t grow. Failure is a part of striving to improve. Admitting it didn’t work and moving on is part of the process. I’m just happy to be able to see and participate in a website like this one.
I’ve also had my issues with GoDaddy on a business website, so I can’t say I’m too surprised. There are some things they do well. Others, not so much. . .

Its been that way since the switch to GoDaddy, for me at least.
Your switch to GoDaddy did fix one thing, those damned Invalid Email address errors that effectively banned me for a couple months.

When it comes to hosting, you get what you pay for. Especially managed hosting.
Roughly the only break you’ll get is if you’re a server sysadmin, your buddy is a network guru and your other two buddies are a talented web designer and a solid developer and you know someone who will lease you colo space on the cheap.
Short of that? Yeah.
I know of some companies that pay upwards of $25,000 a month for hosting, and it’s not a perfectly smooth road for them either, so don’t feel too bad.
I think I fell off my chair this sounds like me and my friends hahaha!
In fact I am sitting in a data center as we speak surrounded by oh 700 or so servers. A couple of cages down is Apple and EA Games 🙂
Not to mention Godaddy was a major supporter of the SOPA bill.
Tell me it isn’t true. Gratuitous T&A in the ads doesn’t equal top notch service or product? But, but, Hooters has the best food in the world!

Godaddy is great for registering domain names (their core business). I personally use Hostgator for my hosting needs. They really go the extra mile for you. I am amazed with their customer service. I used to work for an internet consulting company that could externally measure the performance and availability of websites. Some of our customers would use Rackspace some of their uptime claims are incorrect for sure. Rackspace is a decent hosting company that like Godaddy is very good marketing and (IMO) mega overpriced.

We use Go Daddy as well for domain hosting, but that is it..

Better to try and fail than to not try at all. I’m just glad that the site exists, and that you are involved as closely as you are. There are a lot of web sites out there that are run like a slum building with an absenttee landlord.

Rackspace folks are great, and they don’t spend their ad dollars on celebrities. I’d recommend Rackspace alone just based on my own customer service interactions with them, with IT administration being something I’ve done for well over a decade now. They are truly an impressive organization, and I’m glad to see that you’re going back to them.
FYI I use just host.com for several sites work and personal, nothing super high traffic but cost effective and reliable from what I have seen 🙂
