Jon Wayne Taylor compares the SIG SAUER MCX to a standard AR-15. Bottom line: the two rifles are different but the same. Firearms that any American exercising their natural, civil and Constitutional right to keep and bear arms would be proud — and lucky — to own.

  1. Help the NRA fight for you. Call them when you call your Senators and Reps. Tell them there that the NRA must NOT CAVE – IN , like most of the time . WE are FED – UP with endless demands of ” compromise ” where we lose Rights and get NOTHING……………. That is NOT … ‘ compromise ‘ . NRA phone # 703-267-1141

Congress phone # 202-225-3121…….. NO NEW GUN LAWS… Period !

      • In this you are quite wrong. The NRA is a very old organization and so is not without its warts and scales, but it is historically a dramatically effective defender of gun rights who’s reach into the fetid swamp of US national politics is often both surprising and amazingly effective. After Sandy Hook, in the midst of an orgy of gun-control ideology, Wayne Lapierre’s “Good guy with a gun” comment completely upended the gun-controller’s moral imperative. That single comment profoundly changed the gun-control narrative and, to this day, remains an unassailable counter-argument to gun-control proposals. Lapierre’s argument in favor of the rights of armed self-defence was the NRA at its best. It was that comment backed by the organization that made it so effective. I’m all in favor of The Oath Keepers, but they could not have done what Lapierre and the NRA did.

    • I’ve been tossing around the idea of phasing out mine and my kids’ NRA memberships and sending more $$ SAF’s way. This is why I’m always hesitant to do life memberships

        • This one does. I also have a very well-equipped home range that I can move from room to room, with whom I regularly practice (very tactically, of course), but only at very close distances.
I once used live ammunition, though, which is highly dangerous in the home environment; The result was severe but temporary damage to the range facilities, causing extreme overcrowding and making the range unsafe (and very irritable).
Luckily, I was able to have a local specialist in the field modify my favourite weapon so that it would only fire completely harmless projectiles with no lessening of the enjoyment of training, and the range has not complained, either..

        • “Never shoot blanks” was an innuendo, especially since the gun-grabbers accuse us of inferior ‘equipment’, so to speak…

    • I think the term “ammosexual” can go from an offensive to a playful connotation, if the gays and other sexual minority can pick it up. Like how gays call each other fags.

I always say the best way to counter insults or tense situations is through humor. Like how when Donald Trump mentioned “Rosie O’Donnell.” Boom, Megyn lost her fangs and now the crowd is laughing with you on your side.

  2. I wanted a sig, had it on my list of wants.
Eventually wanted to run three gun.
Now id feel like an a hole to purchase one, gonna give it some time to cool before i follow through.

    • You shouldn’t feel any kind of guilt for buying one (or wanting to guy one). You don’t feel guilty for buying a car after 30,000+ vehicle deaths every year; your purchase of that car has nothing to do with someone else’s negligent or criminal use of a vehicle. Same goes for any type of firearm that’s used for illegal purposes. Don’t let the liberal shaming get to you.

  3. Makes sense…

Off topic I know but that dog on the couch is cracking me up… Hey Jon… That puppy belly isn’t going to pet itself… 🙂

  4. No anti-gunner is going to watch this. They dgaf about technical anything. However, as an engineer, I find weapons technology very, very interesting. Also, the MCX is effectively an AR15 variant, as a serialized AR15 lower receiver can be converted into an MCX with an MCX upper and a little plug that screws into the buffer tube hole (which is not yet for sale afaik). The MCX is as much an AR15 as HK416s, SIG516s, the ZM LR-300, the OA-93, and other op-rod AR variants and conversions are.

  5. OK, so, the Sig is *somewhat* like the stainless Mini-14 folder I had then?

Is that what is called “direct impingement”?

(BTW, Jon, that’s a vicious looking Schnauzer you have there. Kinda like my cat, stretched out on her back, legs splayed open in her “Hey, sailor” pose…)

        • What Tom said.
And RF has 2 of them, the dogs. They bark. A lot. Like…strangle worthy a lot.

        • The AR15 does not really use direct impingement. Direct impingement actually refers a system where the gas acts directly on the bolt to push it back, like in a Ljungman. I read an article on Armalite’s website about this, but it’s gone now. The name they called the AR15’s action escapes me at the moment, but I believe it was something like “internal piston action,” since the AR15’s BCG is essentially a piston. Gas travels through the gas key into the BCG and the gas pressure inside the BCG pulls the bolt back (which is why you need to check and make sure your gas rings are not dried out every once in a while). An actual “DI” AR15 would be like if you extended the gas tube farther into the receiver and stuck one of those solid, flat-front piston conversion BCGs in, and somehow it had enough force to cycle the bolt.

  6. I’m about as pro-2A and anti-grabber as it gets, I own a DD M4A1+ and a Mk17S and plenty of Sigs… but even I find the attempted contrast of DI vs Piston function to be a real stretch in this context.

    Yes they are ‘different’.

No it won’t make any difference to any self-convinced idiot (I’m talking directly to YOU Diane Feinstein you f__king filth) who thinks black guns are scary.

We need a better introductory message to those outside the community. Something like this makes us look disconnected and arrogant. They only care that it projects projectiles at 800,000 ghost clips a second. DI vs Piston is too scientific for the intended audience (journalist apparatchik and democrat media wing).

    • Good grief, what’s disconnected and arrogant about it. JWT’s dressed in slacks and a button down shirt on a couch in a living room with a Schnauzer playing belly-up, how much more Disney can you get? Yeah, yeah, an AR and an MCX are basically 2 flavors of the same thing but again, so what? There’s nothing that can be done for those haters. NOTHING! Except maybe have Schnauzer and their terrier friends hunt them down like the rat vermin they are. It’s a war now. I wish it weren’t so, but THEY, not us, made that decision years ago. It’s time to make our stand.

      Tom

      • I could do a video with my basset hound belly-up. I’d just show them a magnum shotgun slug, a .30-06, a 54R, and a .223 and say “which of these do you think people hunt with? Which one kills babbies? (answer: none) Which one is designed to kill capitalist pigdogs? Which one goes in the scurry black salt waffle?”

      • I’d rather watch paint dry than that video and the subsequent OCD technical comments/debates. Anybody really think a gun grabber would have interest? Whatever.

      • In terms of operation, NO short-stroke-piston rifle is an ‘AR-15’–but I suppose an AR-15 with a piston conversion from direct impingement is still correctly called by the name it started out with. Mostly, though, it’s a game of semantics to everyone but us.
To be precise, Colt came up with the name for its civilian version of the M-16, and still holds the trademark registration for ‘AR-15’–so theirs are the only ones truly entitled to claim it. Everything else in the class is an ‘AR-15 clone.’
However, ‘AR-15’ has entered common use as a descriptive phrase of the entire class of rifles of the type built by any manufacturer; In the case of the MCX, if it has all of the features and configurations of an AR-15, save for a portion of the internal operating bits (the same shape, controls, style, and maybe even color, but replace the gas tube and key with a piston and short operating rod), it’s an ‘AR-15’ for all intents and purposes. SIG’s own advertising for the gun, for example touts its similarities to the standard AR-15 as an attribute easing transition.
Rest assured that when Disarmists talk about the MCX, they are NOT going to care if it’s piston-operated when they seek to ban and confiscate it. If it LOOKS like a duck, it’s a semi-fully-automatic AR-47 with 30-calibre banana clips able to fire 700 armor-child-and-minority-piercing bullets per minute to them.

  7. The only difference between these two guns is the MCX is piston and the AR IS direct gas driven basically meaning one has a gas tube and the other doesn’t. Also there is no standard, Mil-Spec for a piston type action AR gun as the military has not switched to this type of action..yet. A piston type action is whats been used on the AK-47,74 guns for since they were introduced in 1947, hence the 47 designation. The MCX IS a variant of of Stoner’s original design, and yes you can call the MCX a AR, it’s just Sig’s version. Actually the AR-15 the guy in this video is also a variant of Stoner’s original design.

  8. Post this on youtube. The buffering on this website is ridiculously bad even on broadband. And, even after waiting for it to queue.

  9. Concealability of THIS version of the rifle is not viable, true, but MCX has a significantly shorter version, on which a foldable stock makes it the size of a Deagle. Pretty easy to conceal then. Never will see an AR15 do that.
