President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has a record of no-nonsense support for the rule of law that clearly extends to respect for the Second Amendment and the firearms industry.

Chuck Canterbury is the President of the 350,000-strong Fraternal Order of Police who would bring to the Director’s office 26 years of law enforcement experience as well as 16 years’ experience in his current role. Canterbury retired as a major with South Carolina’s Horry County Police Department and was inducted into the South Carolina Law Enforcement Hall of Fame.

Second Amendment Revered

In 2009, during Senate testimony, he made it clear that he holds the Second Amendment as sacrosanct.

“I want no mistake to be made,” Canterbury testified. “I take a back seat to no one in my reverence for the Second Amendment.”

Canterbury also stood up to billionaire New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg after the anti-gun funder of Everytown and Moms Demand called the Fraternal Order of Police a “fringe group” for opposing the release of firearms “trace” data which is prohibited by the Tiahrt Amendment. Even Bloomberg’s own police commissioner Ray Kelly opposed the release of ATF trace data. ATF says it shouldn’t be released outside of law enforcement either. Bloomberg didn’t care when he misused this information in so-called “sting” operations against firearms retailers – without the knowledge of either ATF or his own police department – interfering with as many as 18 criminal investigations and forcing ATF to pull agents out of the field for their own protection.

Canterbury blasted Bloomberg, saying, “The real fringe group is the reckless politicians who interfere with law enforcement. I can’t just stand by while politicians grandstand over our issues without understanding the real-world implications.”

Tackling NFL Gun Bias

Canterbury’s support has been more than words. He’s thrown the Fraternal Order of Police’s support behind issues to preserve gun rights and industry initiatives to keep firearms beyond the reach of those who shouldn’t possess them. He put NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on notice in 2013 when he issued a strict “no-guns” policy that included off-duty and retired law enforcement officers. Canterbury denounced Goodell for the ill-advised policy that came on the heels of terrorist attacks against sporting events and concert halls.

“Law enforcement officers, which you regularly employ to protect teams and stadiums in which they play, do not suddenly become a security risk if they attend an NFL game on their day off or after they retire,” Canterbury said in the letter.

In fact, the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004 was enacted to allow retired and off-duty police officers should be exempt from carry restrictions so they could be a force to respond to terror threats.

There are more areas of agreement between the Fraternal Order of Police and NSSF on key issues.

Smart Guns a Non-Starter

Mandating the use of authorized-user technology, or so-called “smart guns” is, well, not smart. The Fraternal Order of Police agrees with NSSF the technology is unproven and unreliable.

“Police officers in general, federal officers in particular, shouldn’t be asked to be the guinea pigs in evaluating a firearm that nobody’s even seen yet,” said James Pasco, executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police. “We have some very, very serious questions.”

The Obama administration concluded the technology wasn’t ready or reliable and abandoned its effort to mandate its adoption by law enforcement with little fanfare.

“Green-Tip” Ammo

Under Canterbury’s leadership, the Fraternal Order of Police also stood against the Obama administration’s attempt to ban “green-tip” ammunition, or 5.56 mm ammunition commonly used in modern sporting rifles. The administration’s reason was to protect law enforcement. The Fraternal Order of Police, though, thought the dust-up wasn’t necessary.

“Any ammunition is of concern to police in the wrong hands, but this specific round has historically not posed a law enforcement problem,” FOP said at the time.

Supporting NSSF’s Real Solutions

There’s still more. The Fraternal Order of Police sees NSSF’s efforts to provide real solutions for safer communities as efforts worth supporting. Canterbury praised the firearms industry’s Don’t Lie for the Other GuyTM program to prevent straw purchases of firearms.

“I believe campaigns like this are important to deter illegal purchases and to help retailers prevent those purchases from happening in the first place,” he said. “This is certainly a worthwhile endeavor, and I hope that the Justice Department will continue to support the ATF and the Don’t Lie for the Other Guy campaign.”

The Fraternal Order of Police also supports NSSF’s Project Childsafe® initiative to partner with more than 15,000 law enforcement agencies to provide more than 38 million firearms safety kits including gun locks free to communities. In 2015, they supported NSSF’s $2.4 million cooperative grant with the Department of Justice to continue the program.

Most recently, Canterbury writing for the Fraternal Order of Police sent a support letter to U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) for his expected re-introduction of the Federal Firearms Licensee Protection Act, legislation supported by NSSF. The legislation would strengthen criminal penalties for firearms thefts from FFLs.

It’s a long list. Then again, Chuck Canterbury has respected and supported the same ideas as NSSF for a long time.

    • The A.T.F. is a total FRAUD , as were it’s predecessors , Federal Alcohol Administration and B.I.R. – Bureau Internal Revenue.

” Secretary Humphrey with NO AUTHORITY, creates an AGENCY of the Department of the Treasury called “Internal Revenue Service”, out of AIR, from AN OFFSHORE PURE TRUST, called “Bureau of Internal Revenue”. The “SETTLER” and “BENEFICIARIES” of the trust are UNKNOWN. The “TRUSTEE” is the “SECRETARY of THE TREASURY”. Acting Secretary Walker further LAUNDERS the trust by CREATING from the alleged “Internal Revenue Service”, the “BUREAU OF ALCOHOL TOBACCO AND FIREARMS”.

      PERSON BECOMES THING

Unlike Humphrey, however, Walker ASSUAGES himself of any guilt, when he NULLIFIED the order by PROCLAIMING, “The terms ‘Director, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Division’ and ‘Commissioner of Internal Revenue’ wherever used in regulations, rules, and instructions, and forms, issued or adopted FOR THE ADMINISTRATION and ENFORCEMENT of the LAWS specified in paragraph 2 hereof, which are in effect or in use on the effective date of this Order, shall be held to mean the Director'”.Walker created the [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms] from the [Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Division] of Humphrey’s [Internal Revenue Service]. He then says, that, what was transferred, is the same ENTITY as the [Commissioner of Internal Revenue]. He KNEW he could not create something from nothing without the AUTHORITY OF CONGRESS and/or the President, so he made it look like he did something that he had, in fact, not done. TO COMPOUND THE FRAUD, the FEDERAL REGISTER PUBLISHED the unbelievable assertion that a PERSON HAD BEEN REPLACED WITH A THING; ” the term Director Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Division has been replaced with the term Internal Revenue Service.”

      NO JURISDICTION
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, has no venue or jurisdiction within the borders of any of the 50 States of the united States of America, except in pursuit of an importer of contraband alcohol, tobacco, or firearms, who failed to pay the TAX on those items. As proof, refer to the July 30, 1993 ruling of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, 1 F.3d 1511; 1993 U.S. App. Lexis 19747, where the court ruled in United States v. D.J. Vollmer & Co. that “the B.A.T.F. has jurisdiction over the first sale of a firearm imported to the country, but they don’t have jurisdiction over subsequent sales.”

When will Pro Gun groups use this information to beat back Tyranny ?

      • Stop paying taxes and obeying ATF regulations, especially regarding NFA and machine guns, and then let us know how it works out. Wesley Snipes didn’t like how it turned out for him.

        • Yep. Shitbird…er, Freebird is just another wannabe who never darkened the doorway of a law school classroom a single day in his life, but thinks he knows better than all the lawyers and judges out there. In my 20 years as a lawyer, I’ve never seen any of these types of arguments work.

        • It’s not so much that he’s wrong, it’s that the state doesn’t give up ill-gotten power. They got it, we don’t. We get to suck eggs until we take it back.

        • While Scott ‘ Gripes ‘ …… His kind get PAID … for spewing BULLSHIT at all of us.
( Long Story Short , they get paid off )

MONETARY AWARDS(for DECEPTION, CRIMINALITY AND FRAUD)
The Internal Revenue Manual; Handbook of Delegation Orders, January 17, 1983, PAGE 1229-91; outlines the alleged Internal Revenue Service’s system of monetary awards, “of up to and including $5000.00, for any one individual employee or group of employees, in his/her immediate office, including field employees, engaged in National Office projects; and contributions of employees of other Government agencies and armed forces members;” “WITH THE APPROVAL OF the Deputy Commissioner; of $5,001.00 to $10,000.00, for any one individual or group,” “with the approval of the Deputy Commissioner; of $10,001.00 to $25,000 for any one individual or group,” “with the Commissioner’s concurrence, an additional monetary reward of $10,000.00 (total $35,000.00) TO THE PRESIDENT THROUGH TREASURY AND OPM.” (IMPEACHABLE, TREASONABLE)

          .LEGAL (BUT NOT LAWFUL) BRIBERY
These awards include cash awards. They are not limited as to number, that may be awarded, to any one person or group. There is no limitation placed upon any award. Any person or group of persons can be awarded this money, including:- U.S. Attorneys, Federal Judges, your Certified Public Accountant, THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, MEMBERS OF CONGRESS, YOUR MOTHER, H&R BLOCK, etc. The awards may be given to the same person or group, each minute, each hour, every day, every week, every month, every year, or not at all. In other words, the U.S. Government and the alleged Internal Revenue Service, a.k.a. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms have a perfectly legal (not lawful) system of bribery.

The bribery works against the Citizens of the several States of the united States of America.

Those who read here can think , research , and decide for themselves.

        • It has been said that, “The only ones who can come to know the truth are those that have the courage to challenge what they have been taught”.

Please tell me, when was the Second Amendment ever changed or altered so that it no longer stands as originally written with “the Right of the people to keep and bear arms Shall Not be infringed” no longer being the supreme law of the land? My study of American history tells me that this has never happened!

Remember that with the passage of the 18th Amendment alcohol was banned and Prohibition became the supreme law of the land and therefore could not later be reversed or challenged without the passage of another amendment. No act of Congress or Presidential Executive Order was sufficient to end the ban on alcohol and so it was not until with the passage of the 21st Amendment that the era of Prohibition finally came to an end. If the Rule of Law is followed, this is the only way to make this kind of change… An amendment can only be changed with another amendment!!!

In addition, bear in mind that the Constitution is a compact, in other words an agreement or contract and that as such, when any such document is formally amended, the amendment permanently alters and changes the directives of the original document as the terms and conditions of the amendment always “supersede” those of the original document. And so until such time as another amendment is passed that directly addresses and alters the provisions of the Second Amendment, “the Right of the people to keep and bear arms Shall Not be infringed” will continue to be the Supreme Law of the Land and can not be lawfully challenged by any act of the Congress or by the President.

As per the Supreme Court of these United States…

“The Constitution of these United States is the supreme law of the land. Any law that is repugnant to the Constitution is null and void of law.” – Marbury v. Madison, 5 US 137

Additionally, “An unconstitutional act is not law; it confers no rights; it imposes no duties; affords no protection; it creates no office; it is in legal contemplation, as inoperative as though it had never been passed.” Norton v. Shelby County, 118 U.S. 425

“Where rights secured by the Constitution are involved, there can be no rule making or legislation which would abrogate them.” Miranda vs. Arizona, 384 US 436 p. 491

          Constitutional Right – “A right guaranteed to the citizens by the Constitution and so guaranteed as to prevent legislative interference therewith”. – Delaney v. Plunkett, 146 Ga. 547, 91 S. E. 561, 567, L. R. A. 1917D, 926, Ann. Cas. 1917E, 685. – Black’s Law Dictionary, 3rd Edition

”The Constitution is a legal binding contract between the government and its employer (the American people). The U.S. Supreme Court was right when it said, “The Constitution is a written instrument and as such its meaning does not alter, that which it meant when it was adopted, it means now!” – U.S. vs. South Carolina (1905)

There are two axioms of law that I think would apply here. The first is that, “If you don’t know your Rights then you simply don’t have any”. And the second is that, “If you do not raise an objection then you do not have one”. Because a Right that is not asserted and invoked is a Right that in practice unfortunately does not exist.

And so please stop trying to “defend” the Second Amendment as it does not need to be defended, but rather, it needs to be “invoked” at each and every instance of where the Right to keep and bear arms is being challenged by an overzealous government acting under color of law to deprive any American of their recognized God given and constitutionally protected Right to keep and bear arms.

        • ” In my 20 years as a lawyer,”
          There’s your problem right there.

(The first YouTube video is on topic. I posted the second video for those who want to see the whole Aaron Russo documentary.)

        • “And so please stop trying to “defend” the Second Amendment as it does not need to be defended, but rather, it needs to be “invoked” at each and every instance of where the Right to keep and bear arms is being challenged by an overzealous government acting under color of law to deprive any American of their recognized God given and constitutionally protected Right to keep and bear arms.”

          Amen!

  1. “Fake news! A conspiracy of ultra far left liberals to defeat our Noble and Stable Genius of a President (LONG MAY HE REIGN!) from placing a Loyal Second Amendment Defender in charge of the ATF. The treasonous dogs who spread these lies shall be investigated and locked up!”

Am I right or what? After all, Trump is our bestest ever gun buddy, isn’t he?

    • Yeah, so I am already seeing email alerts about this guy from the GOA:

      https://gunowners.org/alert53019/

Trump’s Pick for ATF has Supported a Litany of Gun Control

Urge your U.S. Senators to reject the anti-gun Chuck Canterbury nomination. Your emails will tell your Senators that the anti-gun FOP President is NOT the right choice to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

GOA is Fighting for Your 2A-protected Rights!

You may have already seen the news. But President Trump has nominated an anti-gunner to lead the ATF.

His name is Chuck Canterbury, and he is the president of the anti-gun Fraternal Order of Police. Sadly, Canterbury has a long track record that should concern gun owners:

He’s testified before Congress to support anti-gunners like Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Attorney General Eric Holder.
Under his watch, the FOP backed Congressional measures to expand the unconstitutional and failing NICS system — which is the same system where 95% of the initial denials are false positives.
And on the state level, the FOP under his watch has supported Universal Background Checks and opposed Constitutional Carry.

Please email your U.S. Senators and urge them to reject the Canterbury nomination (above).

GOA will be sending follow-up alerts when the Senate comes back in session. So stay tuned for additional updates.

      • Yep. It was a real shocker to see this pro-Canterbury screed on TTAG after already receiving the condemnation from GOA which was backed up by evidence, especially the letter written by Canterbury to Congress supporting universal background checks, and other measures to “address gun violence.”

        https://fop.net/CmsDocument/Doc/ltr_2013-0129.pdf

With “friends” like that, we don’t need enemies.

        • They are smoking the NRA, most likely. IIRC the two generally go together on the lobbying front. “Fraternal Order of Police” is NOT a pro-RKBA org, even though they may frequently take polls of their membership that reflects that most police ARE pro-RKBA (not that it matters when the rubber meets the road; case in point, this d-bag appointee)

      • You either support the totality of the 2nd Amendment . . . or you don’t. “Keep and bear arms” and “Shall not be infringed” have very specific, very literal meanings. Bureaucracies like the ATF by their very nature are intended to express the state’s inherent distrust of an armed citizenry. That’s why they exist. ATF cops don’t trust private citizens. They don’t trust us because they can’t trust us. The GOA is absolutely right.

      • Hey, it’s not like Trump appointed the mastermind behind the Waco & Ruby Ridge massacres to run the Bureau…I’d say this is an improvement over his AG pick.

  2. I hate to be the bear of bad news, but rawr….

Ole Chucky here supports expansion of red flag laws, universal background checks, and giving the police direct access to medical records. He was an adamant supporter of Eric Holder, even after Fast and Furious became public news.

    This won’t end well.

    • I wonder if the TTAG contributor that wrote this screed was none other than little Wayne of Negotiating Rights Away, hey what’s he got to loose

  3. “Chuck Canterbury is the President of the 350,000-strong Fraternal Order of Police”

So he’s the leading leader of the nation’s largest “only government agents should have guns” organization.

    • With statements like;

““Law enforcement officers, which you regularly employ to protect teams and stadiums in which they play, do not suddenly become a security risk if they attend an NFL game on their day off or after they retire,” Canterbury said in the letter.”

I’d say you’re right. ‘Civilians’ don’t suddenly become a security risk if they attend an NFL game on their day off or after they retire, any more than police officers. Less so, in fact, if you go by hard crime numbers comparing police vs. the general public.

      • 14th amendment, no special privileges or Carve outs for law enforcement….Matter of fact, under current anti-freedom/Anti-2nd Amendment/Pro-Authoritarianism political behaviours expressed by government reps. on local/city/state levels across the USA…I’m now going to promote the “Disarmament of Law Enforcement.” If its good for the citizenry, then it’s good for Law Enforcement….

  4. I guess TTAG has gone anti gun. This POS is anti gun as hell. He even said Sotomayer is pro gun. We need a Democrat administration in right now so “conservatives” will wake up and stop supporting gun control and celebrating when anti gunners are nominated for an anti gun bureaucracy that shouldn’t exist in the first place.

    • It’s opposite world. TTAG is now The Trace, and if the author is the Larry Keane is the one with the NSSF, that org is now the NRA.

    • I doubt TTAG has knowingly gone anti-gun, but you have to remember than most of what appears on TTAG consists of completely unedited press releases that are simply scanned in or copied&pasted in — always without checking or editing, and often without even reading from some I’ve seen here.

This is simply a promo piece that someone sent TTAG announcing the nomination — I haven’t see it elsewhere yet so I can’t tell where it came from, perhaps from Canterbury’s staff, perhaps from the White House, perhaps from the NRA (another wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing)

    • The last time democrats got control of Congress, they wrecked the economy, the DOW lost more than half it’s value, the unemployment rate more than doubled and the monthly jobs report was negative for 27 out of 48 months.
Do you really want to see a repeat of that ?

      • If it gets half the country to find its brains & balls again, yes. Under Obama we also saw unprecedented expansion of not only the gun industry, but gun ownership as a cultural force. Classical liberal ideals came back into vogue among the more conservative and Libertarian sectors, and if it weren’t for a certain bright & shiny orange object distracting them momentarily, we would be reaping the rewards of a massive pendulum swing away from the Bush/Obama eras of government expansion. Instead we got a guy who keeps dummies entertained so they laugh & clap even as he both fails his stated goals and pursues others in direct opposition to what got him elected.

        • Trump has already done what I needed him to. Block Hillary from the presidency, and block not one but 2 democrat SCOTUS appointments.

After that the best I can hope for is political gridlock. I’d rather they all went home for 4 years than keep making it worse. Remember, there’s no political upside to solving problems; the value of problems is as a carrot to mobilize voters at campaign time.

  5. So do I trust GOA or NSSF? Already the guys a cop loving statist in a suit so I wouldnt trust him if I met him on the street. The idea that anyones testimony anywhere matters is to laugh. Until obfuscation and lying result in immediate cranial explosions there is no reason to ever believe any of these people on anything.

    • NSSF is what the lefties try to pretend the NRA is. It’s a TRADE group. It supports the firearm industry NOT you, as this wildly misleading trash article supporting a gun-grabbing jack booted thug demonstrates.

  6. Seriously?
You really don’t think he’s protecting the same version of the 2A that he recommended Sotomayor to the Supreme Court to protect? He said she’s pro 2A, the same way he’s pro 2A, the same way Ginsberg is pro 2A, which is a noticeably worse way than the way Kagan is pro 2A.

    • I forgot to mention, he supports the Constitution the way the fucking FOP supports the Constitution, how hard is it to see that, considering they made him president of the fucking FOP?

  7. So is this a paid/sponsored political advertisement, but you guys just forgot to mark it as such? That’s a serious question and I’m not kidding.

  8. BS No one needs to listen to you or your totalitarian nonsense ever again.

    1. Your “I take a back seat to no one” quote is from when he was supporting SOTOMAYOR for the supreme court. Lett that sink in SOTOMAYOR. He supported SOTOMAYOR.
    2. The NFL wanted to restrict ONLY ONES from carrying. He doesn’t care if citizens can carry only cops.
    3. The FOP doesn’t like smart guns because COPS would be the first logical group to be forced to carry them. He doesn’t care about your rights he cares about a bunch of dead cops with smartguns in their hands. He’s not wrong but it’s not about your rights.

FOP and this man are consistently anti gun while the officers they represent typically are not.

  9. Folks, like others here, I’m lighting the giant red stop light on this one.

This letter calls into question the integrity of the NSSF itself. It contains half truths and omits continual efforts by Mr. Canterbury to diminish the free exercise of our rights.

In support of Canterbury’s “reverence for the Second Amendment”, the letter provides this quote as evidence:

“I take a back seat to no one in my reverence for the Second Amendment.”

I wonder why the the NSSF stopped at that sentence, and didn’t include the full quote:

“I take a back seat to no one in my reverence for the Second Amendment. In fact, if I thought that Judge Sotomayor’s presence on the court posed a threat to my Second Amendment right, I would not be supporting her here today.”

That type of omission is grossly misleading.

Note that the letter doesn’t mention the FOP’s very public and very consistent efforts to stop Constitutional Carry in Ohio.

      • I have never been an employee of TTAG. I will continue to write for TTAG. I hope to have an article about the Kalashnikov USA KS12 out today or tomorrow.
I just don’t have the time to write the kind of articles I want to write lately, and plus, there’s probably three people that want to read a 5,000 word article on the new Colt King Cobra and where it falls into the pantheon of snake guns.

        • Well, I guess count me in as one of those 3, even though I have no interest in 1.) Revolvers and b.) Colt. I do have great interest in reading anything you write and especially anything you review, because you have a proven history of doing it right! Please keep it up, and keep throwing in your 2 cents when BS like this pops up!

        • I love revolvers, though am skeptical of Colts ability to deliver value at any price. They’ll never be craftsmen like they were in days gone by… but then no factory is. For that level we have custom gunsmiths.

Write it, I’ll read it! Would be a welcome change from the doom and gloom political posts.

    • +1. Merely saying “I’m a Second Amendment supporter” means little; heck, even Obama has said that.

What matters are his actions — and publically supporting the nomination to the Supreme Court of a legal lightweight like Sotomajor says it all for me.

Whatever the NSSF is smoking, they need to cut back on it.

  10. I have a friend who says she is pro gun. She says I should only be allowed to have a shotgun. I don’t need a handgun or semi auto rifles according to her.

Most people have degrees of pro gun support. My position is you want either the repeal of all gun control to be pro gun or you are anti gun and support a little or a lot of gun control. I’m not saying you are a bad person. Just that it’s authoritarian to support victimless crimes. My advice to people who want regulation of weapons is to move to europe. Be with like minded people already and don’t ruin the only place with some semblance of freedom.

  11. WTF is wrong with TTAG & NSSF! This Canterbury is as anti-gun as the rest of the dem socialists! No wonder our 2A rights are always on the bubble. With friends like these who needs enemies!!

  12. Screw Goodell, let him lose another few million fans. As far as this guy is concerned, Yipee Kai Yay!!

  13. Records are a thing of the past, it’s all CD’s and mp3 now. Besides that record has been skipping for years. Just repeats the same thing over and over until you finally realize it needs thrown away.

  14. *** Supported radical anti-gun Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
*** Supported former Attorney General Eric Holder – Obama’s head honcho who ran the deadly Fast and Furious gun running program.
*** Supported expanding the federal government’s gun registration schemes.
*** Canterbury’s FOP is currently lobbying AGAINST Constitutional Carry,

It’s official no one needs to listen to Larry Keane or his totalitarian nonsense any more.

May your chains set lightly upon you,
and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

  15. Let us also not forget that he is “Trump’s ATF Director Nominee.” There’s more of that 3-D chess. Trump was a safety valve or a placebo to keep the frog in the boiling pot. The NRA has been a Judas goat since the beginning. Many POTG, generation after generation, fall for this shit over and over again.

    • Trump has lived his whole life in and out of the liberal echo chamber. I voted against Hillary by checking his name, like any sane person would, and I am not that unhappy with him (Gorsuch helped) but he doesn’t have the basis to know what people in flyover states mean when they say they want to be free or what “shall not be infringed” means.

      • Of course Trump is strongly Pro-Gun. If you don’t believe that, just look around him. He always has a dozen or more people all around him carrying guns, so see, he must be pro-gun.

        • He is pro gun, for sure. I heard his son is into hunting. Therefore like father, like son. Right? He does what his daughter tells him to do. So he must do what his son tells him seeing that he does what his son in law says.

Don’t worry. In his second term he will resurrect not only Jesus but the 2nd Amendment. Just trust in the plan.

      • Meaning no disrespect to you and your post with my snark here…

“Yeah, them poor old Bosses need all the help they can get.” – Cool Hand Luke

Trump’s deficiencies are the fault of Trump. I give him no more of a pass than I do Pelosi or the others. Again, he was a safety valve or a placebo. He was a Judas goat for a multitude of people who were almost fed up enough to literally fight back. In some ways, he was worse for the country than Hitlery. Liberty would’ve been in much better shape right now if the pot had boiled over.

  16. This complete utter clown shoes. Come on TTAG, screen these article before you post them unless you actually do support Canterbury.

NSSF is not your friend. They want the industry to be successful, not gun owners. Remember them complaining about prices coming down after DJT was elected. That’s right, they were happy with the best gun salesman ever (BHO) was in office because it was salad days… for them.

    Honk honk!

  17. NSSF is a joke and so is this letter.

This guy only cares about the government, his buddies and himself. He is no friend to the American people. This letter is mostly about how great this law enforcement officer has been for law enforcement officers.

Fudds supporting thugs in uniforms is no surprise. At least soon most fudds will be resting in peace. Hopefully they will go extinct in the U.S.

  18. I would support cost cutting measures in the federal government. begin with eliminating the ATF, FERC, reduce the EPA to 3 employees, 50% cut in IRS, 80% cut in BLM, 50% cut in pay to congressional members with a 1 term limit and merge federal retirement plan with social security. Then next month……

  19. I’ve never heard of the FOP as a defender of gun rights, and I recall Law Enforcement Alliance of America being promoted as a more gun friendly alternative. Any pro-gun activities have been related to off duty or retired police officers, not the general public. I see posts from Feb 2013 about FOP promoting an “Assault Weapons Ban” in the president’s column of their magazine. That means it would have been Canterbury that wrote it or approved its ghost writing.

  20. ASA also sent out a blast urging us to write reps to support Canterbury. I guess them what have their muffler toys want to preserve their “investment.” Same as it ever was.

  21. Every “pro-2A” point Keane cites is regarding LAW ENFORCEMENT personnel, not CIVILIAN 2nd Amendment protections! Keane is obviously shilling with a hidden agenda. TTAG once again has chosen the wrong contributor and the WRONG MESSAGE. All you need to know is that Canterbury’s 2009 “testimony before Congress” was to SUPPORT the nomination of LEFTIST Sonia Sotomeyor for the SCOTUS. Anyone that supports 2A haters like Sotomeyor is AGAINST US NOT FOR US. I’ll trust GOA on this one and have been messaging everyone I can in the Trump admin to push back on Canterbury’s nomination. GOA rightly states:
He’s testified before Congress to support anti-gunners like Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Attorney General Eric Holder.

Under his watch, the FOP backed Congressional measures to expand the unconstitutional and failing NICS system — which is the same system where 95% of the initial denials are false positives.

And on the state level, the FOP under his watch has supported Universal Background Checks and opposed Constitutional Carry.
Wise up NSSF and TTAG! The enemies are inside the gates!

  22. The ATF exist to collect tax stamp money and is the biggest money maker of the Fed not including the illegal IRS and secret sketchy federal reserve.

The founding fathers wanted the citizens better armed than anybody else in the world including our own government.

There is no reason not to have a aircraft carrier and nukes in case SwallowSoWell decides to nuke his own people which he has no clue how to do it …and my brothers and sisters of .mil would not follow that order or any order to disarm the citizens and Violate Rights,Constitution and their oath.

With all the Sheriffs and Law Enforcement saying no to these illegal laws being passed and military and National Guard on the side of right(The People) who do these politicians think is going to accomplish a illegal gun confiscation scheme.

    • Most police are not on the side of the people. Some Sheriffs are, but usually are from small communities.

Modern law enforcement is designed to be against the people. They simply follow orders. Every year they become more militant and increase the escalation.

  23. What in the fuck happened to this site? Have the individuals that write here been drinking bleach regularly, or some shit? I miss the days of RF and how he used to end most posts with, “the right to keep and bear arms is not subject to the democratic process or to arguments of social utility.” Apparently that’s become nothing more than symbolic to the admins of this site.

  24. More often then not, the FOP only fights against anti-gun Legislation until they receive a special cutout exemption fot active and retired LE. THEN FOP will support the Legislation that impacts law abiding citizens. Biased elitist inequality: Rights retained and Rights revolked/denied. This also flies in the face of statics that record as high as 1100 LE are arrested each year!

  25. 1) TTAG, there had better be a damn good explanation for posting this article non-critically in the morning

    2) If this article was ordered to be run by a sponsor or owner, or on behalf of one, I believe it is required by FCC regs to label it as such.

    3) Supporting BGCs, banning bump stocks, and now this asshole? I think NSSF & ASA have just proven themselves even more rotten than the NRA.

  26. Trump supporter agrees this isn’t the best pick Trump could have come up with. Like most in the ATF, however, I think he’ll take the position his president takes as opposed to being an active leftist sleeper agent. Still hard to get enthusiastic here and the article is a white wash of what a number of people have already posted.

    • Yeah, he won’t try to undermine the President, but he’ll click his jackbooted heels and jump to Trump’s next illegal directive.

I’d love to see Trump nominate somebody who would stand up for the Constitution and the rule of law, but such a man would have told Trump where to shove his bumpstock ban, so Trump can’t have any of that.

  28. Letter I sent to my 2 senators (R. Paul and The “Swamp Prince”, “Ditch” Mitch McConnell):

Subject: Opposition to the Nomination of Chuck Canterbury, Jr. to ATF Director
I want to advise you I am strongly against the nomination of Chuck Canterbury, Jr. to ATF Director as he is an adamant opponent to citizen 2A rights.

The following is a significant part of Chuck Canterbury Jr.’s history:
*** Supported radical anti-gun Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor (Testimony of Chuck Canterbury, Nomination of Sonia M. Sotomayor. FOP, July 16, 2009).
*** Supported former Attorney General Eric Holder — Obama’s head honcho who ran the deadly Fast and Furious gun-running program (Testimony of Chuck Canterbury, Nomination of Eric H. Holder. FOP, January 15, 2009).
*** Supported expanding the federal government’s gun registration schemes (Rubio, Toomey, Coons, Nelson Announce Bipartisan Gun Safety Legislation. March 5, 2018).

It is my sincerest wish that you oppose his nomination as you state you are a proponent of citizen 2A rights
