“Donald Trump boasted Saturday that support for his presidential campaign would not decline even if he shot someone in the middle of a crowded street,” cnn.com reports. “‘I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters,’ Trump said at a campaign rally here. After the event, Trump declined to answer when asked by CNN to clarify his comments.” Pride goeth before a random shooting?

    • …He probably could.

I’m still not sure what to make of trump, or what’s even keeping him ahead in the polls. The only thing I can figure is pure name recognition. More people know trump than know any of the other candidates (where Rubio and Cruz are 20% ish, Trumps at 90%).
Because they know him the usual political attacks and slip ups don’t seem to work against him.
I don’t know if that kind of familiarity translates to a win, but he seems stuck in the race.

      • The fact is the media is getting trumped. People just aren’t buying the media’s bullshit. RF included. If you read everything he says in context of what he says, it’s ussually nowhere near as bad as protrayed in the news. From reading this article you’d believe he just went up there and shouted that while pointing his finger in the shape of a gun at some underprivleged homo sexual minority.

      • Scott Adams (The guy who writes dilbert) has a great series of blog posts on why the trumpster is trumpting.

Actually RF would do good to read about these methods of “persuasion”

      • “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK?” he said

“Stuck in the race” is not the same as winning or not losing any voters.

His poll numbers reflect that he says things that people want to hear. As soon as he starts saying things that people do NOT want to hear, some of his supporters will start to think twice.

I appreciate how anti-pc his dialog is, but I don’t believe he is the best candidate. Personally, I’d prefer Rand Paul.

        • If I lived in the U.S, I would vote for Rand Paul, as he seems like best candidate. The only things I don’t agree with him on is gay marriage and abortion. He seems like a genuinely good candidate compared to most others.

        • He’s been saying a lot of what people DON’T want to hear. Pretty much everything he says pisses off someone or other.

It’s the Hillary Clintons and Jeb Bush’s of the world who are so painfully careful of everything they say lest they offend someone. Don’t rock the boat. Just go along to get along until it’s too late to undo the damage. That’s their MO.

At least Trump is a breath of fresh air, and by God we need that.

    • He was being intentionally hyperbolic, it was in response to a poll that came out stating that his supporters were fully committed to him in much greater proportions than the other candidates.

  1. That’s not exactly what he said. It was more like:

“My people are so smart — and you know what else they say about my people? The polls?” Trump asked a crowd at a Sioux Center, Iowa, rally Saturday. “I have the most loyal people — did you ever see that?”

“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK?” he said, referring to the major street in New York City that cuts through Manhattan’s large commercial district. “It’s, like, incredible.”

Then the audience he was speaking to erupted in moderate laughter, so obviously he was making a joke.

      • It was a joke and it was funny. You sound like the typical gun grabber offended by anything relating to a gun. Would you like a fainting could to drop your pansy azz?

        • It was funny? Who laughs when you say that you can shoot someone and nothing would happen to them? It’s an egocentric rant about how loyal (or disillusioned) his fans are. But just keep drinking the Kool-Aid bud.

I’m not saying he’s a bad person per se, I’m just saying a statement like that is too bold for any human.

  2. Yawn. Who cares, it’s Trump. But watch the assault media run with it, try to make something out of nothing….again and his poll numbers continue to climb and all those d- bags on TV scratch their heads.

    • What media outlet is currently attacking Trump? There are a couple of hosts on each network that don’t like him, but no real assault. In fact the media response to Trump (outside of those few hosts)is rather tame compared to the savaging that Ben Carson or Ted Cruz have faced. The democrat party itself have tried to destroy both Scott Walker and Rick Perry when it became apparent that they were going to be running for president. Yet no serious and sustained democrat attacks against Trump. Interesting to say the least.

    • Honestly, he has the leftist media shadow boxing at all the outrageous stuff he says. Every minute they spend chasing their tails trying to makes sense of Trump is time they don’t have to cover anything they might think was “meaningful”. They are so focused on tearing him down he is just leading them in circles. They are so focused on tearing down anything they perceive as Trump that they are just throwing out anything they think will stick, and that may end up coming back to bight then. Kind of like that guy who got trolled by the SC First Ammendment registry last week, they are becoming completely blind to what they are even saying or if it fits with everything else they have said in the past.

Think what you want to about Trump but he has everyone on the left very nervous or they wouldn’t be spending so much time trying anything they can to knock him down.

    • Has he ever backed up anything he says with substance? I could spout off all day, saying things people want to hear, but until I explain how those things are going to get done it’s just rhetoric. Or blather. His spouting off is becoming so much white noise.

  3. Trump possibly put himself in legal jeopardy by even joking about such a hypothetical crime in DeBlasshole’s NYC, but the claim might not be all that outlandish. The sitting president could probably murder Scalia, Thomas, Roberts, and Alito on the SCOTUS building front steps without losing any supporters.

  4. If Donald shot someone on the street, I could probably still support him. However, I would have to draw the line if he was married more than once (not a true conservative) or if he ever supported abortion or was anti-gun. He’d also probably lose my support if he said demeaning things about struggling undocumented Americans or said mean stuff about women.
All I can say is God help us if this man is elected.

    • Belly up to the bar, now, and explain how being married more than once has any effect on whether you are a “true conservative” or not. Come on, break the silence! WTF does that have to do with anything? Does he support shrinking government? Lowering taxes? WTF does his marital status have to do with anything, even if he currently has 3 wives? I freaking DARE you to answer that!

      • I love a dare. First, I hope you understand that the whole 1st paragraph was sarcasm. You have some super duper conservatives supporting him when there have been a lot of red flags that they ignore. Second, let’s do talk about his wives. Why aren’t American women to his liking? Why do people support his having affairs and a child (with Marla Maples) out of wedlock? Are there others? Did any of his affairs result in any abortions?
If he is a great deal maker, let’s see his pre- nuptial agreements. Let’s see what kind of a deal his wives get.
Criticize Obama all you want. His policies stink, but he’s still married to Michelle after all these years.

        • American women are generally well indoctrinated feminists. Hardly to anyone with better options’ liking anymore. Not 100%, but by far the majority.

      • True Conservative, in the West, amongst other things involves morals anchored in an era where Christianity played an important role. And Christianity does include teachings regarding philandering. 3 wives are probably, or at least possibly, OK. Divorcing your 1 wife for reasons other than her being a whore, otoh…. Of course, one could always argue that the chances The Donald ever married a non whore to begin with, is pretty slim….

        • “Why aren’t American women to his liking? Why do people support his having affairs and a child (with Marla Maples) out of wedlock? Are there others? Did any of his affairs result in any abortions?

Incredible. There is absolutely not one thing in that whole glob of gossip which has any place at all in a campaign for president of the US. This kind of thinking is why we have people like Hillary, or Osama. Why not discuss issues which affect the future of the nation, rather than who is dipping his wick in whom? Instead we stand ready to answer “ban all guns! It’s for the children!” with something like “Oh, yeah? Well, your husband is porking your sister and her daughter, both! So there!” Can we grow up a little?

        • Your moral choices reveal your character. Your character influences every decision you make.
You’d call a woman with 5 kids by 3 different men a nasty name–probably something racist. Yet, you want to call Donald “Mr. President?”

    • I fail to see the relavance of multiple marriages to conservatism. Conservatives don’t have to be religious.

      • Fiscal conservatism and social conservatism are two different things and peoplenuse “conservative” or “true conservative” to refer to whichever of those are more important to them.

        People don’t pay attention.

    • Or, CNN this just in, “Trump threatens to murder young pregnant black female with a gold plated AR-15!!!”

  5. This kind of coverage is exactly why he says this stuff. He doesn’t have to pay for advertising because media outlets eat this sh*t up. He plays to the lazy journalist and wins every time.

    Good for him, I guess…

      • You better watch out, I think she’s a guy, I ain’t quite sure but something ain’t right. Hillary Clinton is coming to town. -Larry the cable guy

      • I also could’ve been referring to Bill… That’s the fun thing about them clintons, it applies to both of them perverts.

    • Is it, though? I hate and loathe the man, but I think he’s 100% correct on this. His supporters are very cultist, and they don’t really care what else he says or does or is, so long as he keeps pushing their buttons.

      • The democrats are lining up for Hillary and she framed and innocent man and had him sent to federal prison to cover her butt.

Honestly, depending on who Trump shot, he might get more voters.

And he could get democrats if he said he aborted a fetus.

    • And Byrd wasn’t some one shot wonder either. He spent the better part of a century in the senate.

That said, there’s a reason why. He had a legion of zombies voting for him. Ok, I’m being dramatic, but the dead do vote in WV, and that’s how he kept in power. Hell, a sheriff was arrested for voter fraud, and a judge in a neighboring county was covering up their sheriff’s OxyContin ring (which was exposed after an unhappy “associate” killed him).

  6. He could possibly lose one vote, depending on whom he shoots………Not that I would dare disagree with everybody’s beloved Trump!

  7. More like Chicago PD lol…anybody think the donald is resembling Benito Mussolini more and more(with hair(?)that is)…he he. Funny but I was quite impressed with Chris Christie at the snowstorm today. I can’t see the egomaniac donald mustering the troops(NOT a plug for the rotund one-stay a governor)…

    • Mussolini was actually a really funny guy when he wanted to be. Despite his reputation, he was actually a well read multiligual intellectual. Among the 20th Century rogues gallery of sociopaths only Leon Trotsky was his intellectual equal.

      • Good to see I’m not the only one who thinks the donald teeters on being a sociopath…is it part of being old and jaded in outlook? I’ve seen this before-anyone remember Dan Walker former governor of Illinois and convicted felon? He even looked like a clone of Trump…

  8. Whelp, Hillary will win because of Trump.

Goodbye gun rights. Even if she doesn’t get Congress to do anything, she’ll get to appoint at least one justice…

  9. Somebody else posted on a different thread, and I agree with them, that politicians like Trump are why I have firearms.

We have already had eight years of narcissism. I don’t think we need anymore.

    • We don’t, but there is a difference between ideal and real. If he ran against Bernie or Hillary, who do you want to pick our next Supreme Court justices?

I don’t like Trump, I don’t like the Democrat alternatives more.

  10. What a moron. This goes for anyone voting for him as well. I don’t believe he has had a change of heart on the many issues he trumpets. He would throw us under the bus on gun control if he thought it would get him elected.

I don’t care if you are angry. Vote your principles not your emotions.

  11. This is much ado about nothing – a joke made in poor taste. I’m hoping that Cruz is the Republican presidential candidate. If it’s between Trump or Hillary, I’m holding my nose and casting the Trump vote.

All the folks calling Trump a narcissist, if they cannot recognize that fault to a greater and more dangerous extent in Hillary, are politically blind.

I don’t care what politicians say. Every single one says stupid things. I care about having decent SCOTUS justices, lowering taxes, decreasing the size and cost of government, defending our borders and interests, and increasing the freedom of American citizens.

  12. How is this any diffrent than people still beliving in Hillary or Obama after they said they didn’t know about Bengazi or no one will loos their health insurance.

The point he is making is that he (thinks) can win no matter what. No matter what he says or does the media gives him so much attention he hardly has the pay for advertising. Plus he knows how to work the media and most people think he’s funny.

Case in point-all the above comments.

  13. I wonder why Rand Paul doesn’t get more support? Definitely anti-establishment, pro 2A & doesn’t have the looming background of the Don.

    • The Libertarian moment came and went because Libertarianism emphasizef drugs, gay sex and abortion instead of limited government and free markets. The kind of faux Libertarianism preached today looks little different than leftism.

  14. Trump scares me, as do Cruz and Rubio. I don’t know why Rand Paul is lagging so badly. It’s almost as if his common sense is too practical for people wanting REAL hope and change. Poor guy needs a media consultant or something in order to get his message heard.

    • Rand Paul is the ultimate beta male. He failed because he has zero personality and acts like whiny little bitch. Even Jeb Bush can kick dirt in his face.

  15. That someone could be Trump and no one would cries. Bush had the same opinion of himself and the sheelpe bough off on it. WHAT FOOLS

  16. This moron thinks he is above the law, like most rich people. The choices for this election period, like in every election period are simple: vote for a hard turd, or for a bowl of soft diarrhea. Don’t forget the salt and ketchup.

  17. It’s because he’s been selected, it won’t matter when he’s elected:
    “Presidents are selected, not elected.”
    ― Franklin D. Roosevelt
