President Donald Trump’s administration keeps rolling back government rules and regulations, making America great again. The latest move by Team Trump is to open up over 1.4 million acres of federal land to hunting and fishing. Not only that, but they have eliminated 7,500 needless rules and regulations limiting that access.

Of course, while hunters and anglers rejoice, others will cry foul. However, the sky will not fall because outdoorsmen and -women practice their own conservation in the great outdoors.

Paul Bedard at the Washington Examiner has the story

Git-R-Done: Trump opens 1.4 million federal acres to hunters, anglers

President Trump isn’t much of an outdoorsman, aside from golf.

But maybe more than any president since Teddy Roosevelt he understands the importance of others getting outside to boat, hunt, fish, shoot, and hike and their demands for access to federal lands and waterways.

“He’s basically said, ‘Git-R-Done,’” said Interior Secretary David Bernhardt, who is spearheading the opening of 1.4 million acres and elimination of 7,500 regulations limiting access.

“The president fundamentally gets that hunters and anglers are the true conservationists in our society. He understands that history and that we need to act in efforts to expand hunting and fishing while at the same time being respectful of private land rights, respectful of state law,” added Bernhardt.

How soon will all this happen?

After a public comment period, he hopes to have the land open in time for the September dove season.

Bravo. These areas should never have been placed off-limits to American sportsmen by bureaucrats in the first place.

  1. If citizens did not hint, it would cost the public tens of billions to manage wildlife populations. Instead of being rewarded for this service, hunters are charged fees & taxes at every turn. They are providing a public service and it needs to be treated as such:

    – Hunting expenses should be tax deductible, including the purchase of a firearm or archery gear, ammo, decoys & blinds, stands, and safety gear.

    – Corporate owned hunting lease land should be available without cost by lottery (at least a few slots). Companies like Raytheon are government contractors so they could easily be incentivized to do this.

  2. The big, bad orange “Emergency Closure” signs that went up at my favorite BLM shooty spot
during the O’Bummer administration have mysteriously vanished in the last few weeks!

    Making America Great Again, indeed!

I’ve so missed shooting out there the last 10 years…

  3. I’m grateful that hunters have more land to hunt on. Now go forth a control the animal population. In the mean time this urban/city guy wants his right to inexpensive rapid fire (bump stock) weapons back. And I’d like to keep my hearing longer by buying “gun mufflers” for all my firearms. But I can’t afford to do that now.

Hearing Protection Act president Trump? Republicans in congress? NRA support?????

  4. Thomas Jefferson, to paraphrase, said that a walk in the woods with a rifle is the finest form of exercise. The Pittman-Robertson Act pays for wildlife conversation on these lands and that is a tax paid by sportsmen. All federally owned land is owned by citizens of the United States and should be open to use by the same.

    • Awesome. So the one place in PA is

      Pennsylvania
o Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge: Open sport fishing for the first time on acres
      already open to other activities

Unless you are in the northeastern part of the state this means nothing. How about giving us back bump stocks and deregulating suppressors.

It’s not a bad thing, but it isn’t enough to get me out to vote in 2020.

  5. Why is Trump doing this now, why not 3 years ago? Because he’s fishing for votes, opening the candy filled goody-bag; I’m not complaining but it’s obvious what’s going on here.
Maybe we can look forward to a few more “goodies” at least for a few more years.

      • Its not about being satisfied or dissatisfied, though as long as the tags, license, etc, are balanced against the population to promote conservation, I’m fairly satisfied.

It is psychological. Its a good play to have a lot of good things ‘in the bag’ and let them trickle out near the next election.

    • The neat thing about the internet is that you don’t have to wonder. Nearly every government action is public information.

This is a proposal by Secretary Bernahardt who just recently took office. It comes after years (started by his predecessor) of identifying land that could be opened with little negative impact, and contributes to conservation efforts.

But that’s complicated and boring so let’s just bitch about Donald Trump. Please continue.

  6. Nice, I’m sure the FUDDs will love this. Too bad fewer and fewer people hunt and fish each year.

How about Trump actually help the 2A community and de-regulate suppressors while reversing his idiotic decision on bump stocks. Trump has banned more gun related items than Obama did. Just think about that for a good long while before you go out to vote again.

  7. “President Donald Trump’s administration keeps rolling back government rules and regulations, making America great again.”

Odd way to describe a guy who single-handedly banned a half-million firearms, if you ask me. But then again, I’m not a member of the Presidential 2nd Amendment Coalition, so what do I know?

      • Maybe the chicks who dye their hair pink and shave it on the sides are into “dadbods” but I assume the high quality women still want men to look like men. Wide shoulders, flat stomach, legs which can squat double body weight.

  8. The Far Right is too dumb to know this is a by product of opening Government parks and wildlife sanctuaries to be raped and ruined by oil and gas drilling for the blind greed of the Republican gangster criminals who are out to destroy and rape the environment. As we speak coal companies are now pouring huge amounts of pollution into the air and into our water ways and drinking water because Trump destroyed Obama’s clean air and water policy. Despite Trumps lies at his Florida rally we are not No. 1 in preventing air pollution we are No. 10 and No. 38 in overall sanitation. One in four Americans now are in real danger of developing cancer and dying from it because of air pollution and the most vulnerable are the children who the Republicans consider expendable by killing them off in weekly school shootings which they continue to refuse to do anything about. So the Republicans say why sweat the cancer causing air pollution, because bullets will kill the kids before the cancer does anyway. Brilliant! They thought of this all by themselves for once.

  9. From the NRA’s recent email blast:
“For Second Amendment supporters, the president has been a steadfast ally, refusing to bend to the will of anti-gun forces within the Democrat party, the legacy media, and increasingly in a business climate that appears to embrace virtue signaling even over company mission or shareholder value.”

Funny. I seem to remember him making jokes about senators who are afraid of the NRA. https://youtu.be/_JfisbUVei4
    And of course, bump stocks.
