From the Associated Press:

TikTok says it’s working to remove videos of a man apparently taking his own life and banning users that keep trying to spread the clips on the popular social media platform.

It’s the latest example of the ongoing struggle by big tech companies to police their platforms for harmful content amid increasing pressure from regulators.

The video was originally livestreamed on Facebook before being circulated on other platforms including TikTok, the company said.

It didn’t not give more details about the video but news reports say it has been circulating on TikTok since Sunday and shows a man shooting himself with a gun.

β€œOur systems, together with our moderation teams, have been detecting and blocking these clips for violating our policies against content that displays, praises, glorifies, or promotes suicide,” TikTok said in a statement.

β€œWe are banning accounts that repeatedly try to upload clips,” the company said, adding it appreciated users who reported the content.

President Donald Trump has ordered Tiktok’s Chinese owner ByteDance to sell its U.S. operations over concerns about cybersecurity and censorship. The platform has become very popular with teens largely because of the company’s algorithms, which decide what videos users see without first requiring them to follow other users or specify their preferences.

Facebook said it removed the original video last month on the day it was streamed and has β€œused automation technology to remove copies and uploads since that time.”

Social media users have been warning others about the clips, saying some have been edited to include shots of cats to trick viewers. Others are posting screenshot of the video’s beginning to make people aware of what clips to avoid.

TikTok urged people who were struggling with thoughts of suicide or concerned about someone who is to seek support.

  1. black fingernail polish? No doubt he’s a Libtard. No loss.

However, he will be voting Democrat Party straight ticket for the next century or two.

    • Only the forefinger, at least in the still image above. I’ve had a fingernail look like that after getting the finger crunched in a doorframe.

      • The one black fingernail appears to be a reference to an online campaign to raise awareness of violence against children. Not really clear how it raises awareness when no one knows what it means when they see it.

    • He also fought in Iraq and was a disabled veteran, so keep a civil tongue in your head instead of being a douche. Especially since I doubt you served, A-hole.

  2. biden voter i would assume
this is the face of the democrat party
a party of people who believe in nothing
    so theyll believe in anything
to their own and everybody elses peril
2020 is our last chance to vote ourselves out of this madness
after this we have to shoot our way out

    • sound awake,

a party [Democrat] of people who believe in nothing

Classical Christian faith impresses upon us to:
      — realize that we are immensely valuable as God’s children
      — NOT exploit, cheat, abuse, nor harm other people
      — love and care deeply for one another
      — encourage one another

Every one of those tenants fosters profound inner peace and joy and reduces suicide.

It should come as no surprise, then, that one or more people have rejected those simple tenants in almost every (if not every) suicide. What does continually surprise me is how so many people disparage classic Christian faith and those tenants.

      • …so?

Does the shotgun mouthwash make it more relevant than if he had hanged himself?

Is there anything about the gun in the story? Because I must have missed it.

        • No but by the looks of the mess it made im gonna say 12 gauge lol…. shotguns can be dangerous kids… especially when you accidentally load a shell and then accidentally put the barrel under your chin……. you get the picture…. lol

    • The video must be really gory; but, it is sad a life was lost. Depression is a terrible thing and often very difficult to deal with. A person who admits to being deeply depressed is merely asking for help. Help of any kind, a few kind words spoken can make a huge difference. A little time spent and kind words doesn’t cost a penny but can do good that is priceless and life saving. Simple observation and a little kindness is often all it takes to make a difference.

      • Yes Sir, it is sad.

We learned in Suicide Awareness training that the person contemplating self-termination believes that their options for ending their pain…whether that pain is physical, psychological, emotional or a combination thereof…have dwindled down to a single choice: suicide. Persons experiencing that level of desperation have described the feeling as equivalent to watching the Coriolis effect of a drain swirling…everything speeds up while narrowing down to a finite point where the only relief they can see is death.

I lost an officer to suicide…don’t you think that I have reviewed events in my mind since then asking what signs did I miss?

Yeah, it sucked for the survivors…his family, friends and co-workers were all affected. The family didn’t receive any life insurance or other death-related benefits because suicide is the major exemption in all insurance payouts.

  3. Thank You For Your Service:
Suicide is the Absolute Most Personal thing a person can choose to do. People do it for a myriad of reason of which those left behind can neither understand or comprehend. I feel sadness for those left behind because it is a painful thing to live through. Having known numerous people who have chosen to end their own lives. The shock of it always makes those who cared about them feel guilty for “Missing” the signs. Sometimes there are no signs. Just hold on to the good memories and know they are no longer in the pain that led them to end their lives.
To all the Sick Fucks making snide comments. I hope you Never have to feel the pain of losing someone to a Depression so large that their Last Cry is to Kill Themselves. From experience it Truly Sucks.

  4. While I can only make the assumption that this person was on the other side of the political aisle than I am, this whole thing makes me very sad. I personally have known someone that has committed suicide. Regardless of their political beliefs it saddens me he took his own life. No doubt he had friends and family that loved him. I am praying for them all.

    • What makes you think this person had a different political view as yourself? People from all walks of life suffer depression and sadly commit suicide. We all have more in common than we have differences.

  5. He used the livestream as bait to get his girlfriend on the phone so he could abuse her one last time and then “win the argument” by grenading his face on camera. Not a good dude.

Not the first time this has happened on social media, not the first time it’s been removed, and as usual it’s quite easy to find if you want to.

    • If there’s a source for this I’d love to read it. There’s nothing but tears and lionizing over this man right now, his name was Ronnie McNutt.

      • He talks to her in the video, says something to the effect of “well, whatever, if you’re gonna be like that”, then hangs up the phone and blows his face off.

Threatening to kill yourself in order to control, influence, or punish others is a textbook abuser move. I don’t know that about him for sure, but nobody is going to speak up when social media is too busy circlejerking over him.

      • The source is the video itself, as a poster above wrote. It’s pretty clear that this was an “F YOU!” suicide.

It’s speculation but someone who does this is probably an emotionally manipulative jackass.

Someone is allowed to leave you without being responsible for your death.

  6. Tragedy. But perhaps this will help force awareness of the controversy over whether these social media companies are platform providers or content providers.

I am reminded of a line from an old western I read decades ago. The ramrod was talking with the rancher about a range problem that the rancher was hoping would go away without him having to make a decision. The ramrod said something like, “Well Ben, all I know is, sittin’ on the fence too long will give a man a mighty sore crotch.”

Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, et al., are all working behind the scenes to minimize our public voice, while at the same time enjoying protection of federal law by claiming they are not publishers, but rather are simply providing a platform for public discussion. Can’t have it both ways.

      • I’ve seen worse. On the same website, they are sawing a guys legs off while he’s still alive and beating him with the severed leg. I’ve seen many beheading videos and those are truly disturbing. I’ve seen things no person should ever see. This video, it’s not all that bad really. He did it himself, he wanted to go and it was instantaneous. The only real bad part I guess is his head turning inside out. But hell, anyone who has popped a big zit and squirted the mirror should be able to handle it.

  7. That stuff doesn’t belong on social networks PERIOD. Disgusting shit saw the body of a man πŸ‘¨ who put his head on a railroad πŸš† track and let the train 🚞 run it over and in a Green saw a lot of deaths but not on social media that is krazy

  8. That’s one seriously disturbed individual. Bad enough to take his life over woman issues, but let’s record it and f**k with her head too. What a Product of Arseholism!

    • Broads screw with guy’s heads all the time, he showed “her”, his “girlfriend” (worried about “misgendering” here) and showed “her” good too ie. that only he’s allowed to do THAAAT.

  9. My goodness, that rifle doesn’t look rugged enough for a combat weapon. Poor USMC Snipers, a three man sniper team, shooter, spotter, and duct taper….π–œπ–œπ–œ.π–Œπ–”π–ˆπ–†π–˜π–9.π–ˆπ–”π–’

  10. I’ve lost relatives and friends to suicide. You’ll pardon me if I take exception to the multiple “he’s a libtard, good riddance” comments from the ever compassionate community here on TTAG.

I’ve been down some pretty dark roads myself. You don’t want to be in that position. You have no idea what it’s like. You have no idea the kind of pain, be it physical or mental, that it requires for suicide to feel like the only way out. But you judge anyway, and boy do you judge. You know NOTHING about this man, save for the fact that he shot himself. So in your feeble little mind, you equate this with weakness, which you naturally equate with liberalism–which around here is just a short form of “anyone who doesn’t lock-step support our lord and savior Donald Trump”.

Every time I visit this site, I am convinced this community cannot possibly sink any lower. And every time, I am proven wrong.

  11. An attention seeker. It seems no one living gave him the attention he seemed to have desperately sought. He has harmed total strangers in his last act. I don’t feel sorry for him. I’m angry.
