California Lawmakers Approve 3 Bills Imposing New Restrictions on Gun Ownership

California lawmakers on Monday approved a trio of bills that would reduce the number of people with access to firearms, including lifetime bans on owning guns for people convicted of domestic violence and individuals placed on involuntary psychiatric holds twice in a year by the courts.
The three bills now head to the desk of Gov. Jerry Brown for consideration.
Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) proposed a lifetime gun ban on those convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence, which extends the current 10-year prohibition in state law.

The NRA event defeated hundreds of other event rivals. This year, a record-breaking 87,154 people showed up in May for the annual get-together in Dallas, which also attracted 800 exhibitors to a 15-acre venue. President Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and country music greats Charlie Daniels and Travis Tritt were among the attendees.
“Unusual for a 70-year-old show from a 147-year-old organization to garner such an award over organizations representing new, developing industries,” said Jeff Poole, the NRA’s director of shows and exhibits.

Half of all gun-related deaths in 2016 occurred in six nations — Brazil, the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia and Guatemala. Together, the study published in the journal JAMA noted, these countries hold less than 10 percent of the world’s population.

If I had to make a prediction about how that’s going to go, I would say more people are going to detained and for longer than before. If you’re the judge making the “risk assessment” on a violent offender, do you want to be the one who let the spree killer out? The easy way to avoid that is to be cautious on all the evaluations and err on the side of detain.

California jails are VERY overcrowed. They don’t have the space to keep them, so they’ll be free. This is going to be a disaster.

I’m somewhat sympathetic to the general concept, the very poor often cannot get bail since they have no assets. Being stuck in jail can mean what job they have will fire them for not showing up. A typical bail here is 5,000, and ten percent of that is 500 bucks. That’s a heavy hit for someone living paycheck to paycheck.

Now they will have some group judging you to decide if you can be let out regardless if you could have afforded it. Imagine how they are going to treat gun owners. Then imagine how this power is going to be used when certain groups get their hands on it.

After the deputy talks it over with his union rep and his attorney, he’ll decide whether he shot on purpose, by accident, or if it shot itself or if the other guy did it. That’s why it’s important to never question a LEO until 3-7 days have passed.

If not then lifetime ban only applies to the lifetime in CA, which if you have those kinds of problems it might be time to move.
