By law in Mexico, only cops and crooks have guns. Too often, thanks to corruption, the government works for the crooks.  Meanwhile, the Mexican population, rendered unarmed by Mexico’s strict gun laws, know the folly of bringing a machete to a gunfight.

Given how only bad guys have guns, it should surprise no one that one in four Mexicans fall victims to violent crime each year.  Clearly the criminals run roughshod over the disarmed populace. Today, with increasing regularity, tourists now find themselves caught up in Mexico’s violent crime.

Meanwhile the Mexican government, in an effort to make cash-spending visitors feel safe, have greatly increased police presence in and near tourist areas. Nothing like catching some rays next to soldiers and cops wearing hard armor and sporting automatic rifles, right?

Mexico: Crime Runs Rampant in Mexico Tourist Areas

Of course, magic spells and wishful thinking can prove hazardous to one’s health. After a February 21st explosion on a tourist ferry at Playa del Carmen, tourists now walk down piers lined with even larger numbers of heavily armed police, soldiers and bomb-sniffing dogs. When you see soldiers wearing rifle-resistant body armor toting long guns, that should serve as a clue that trouble lies not far away.

USA Today has part of the story:

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico — Tourists taking the ferry from this tourist town to the island of Cozumel now walk down a wharf lined with police, heavily armed soldiers and bomb-sniffing dogs.

Those safeguards came after a Feb. 21 explosion ripped through one of the ferries, injuring 24 people, including five Americans. Explosives were later found on another ferry owned by the same company.

“It’s something that makes you feel safer,” Roberto Cintrón, president of the Cancún hotel owners’ association, said about the soldiers and security after a recent ferry ride to Cozumel. “It’s the complete opposite situation of the insecurity many people think of.”

Numerous reports about crime and tourist tragedies have made recent headlines as the violence plaguing this country erupts in cities popular with foreign visitors.

Incidents causing concern in Cancún and outlying Quintana Roo state range from bars allegedly serving adulterated liquor to unsuspecting tourists to police targeting visitors in rental cars for bribes.

Meanwhile, homicides in Mexico, which set a record of 29,158 last year, have jumped another 20% in the first two months of 2018.  Does this sound like a tourist paradise where you would want to take your family?

Me either. In fact, conditions have deteriorated in Mexico so badly that the US State Department issued a “strict” do-not-travel-to advisory for our neighbors to the south.  It put five Mexican states in the same category as war-torn crapholes like Syria and Afghanistan.

Even worse, the US even closed its consulate office in Playa del Carmen for a time, citing the lawlessness there.   No wonder Trivago has 1798 hotel rooms in Playa for as little as $19 per night!  Come visit our beautiful beaches and stay because you got shot/blown up/knifed.

Mexico: Crime Runs Rampant Even In Mexico's Tourist Areas

Of course, Mexican officials patronizingly claim that the violence does not impact tourist areas.  Tell that to the two dozen plus tourists injured in the February 21st bombing on that ferry.  That happened even with soldiers and police everywhere.

Mexico violence tourist areas

In the end, the orgy of violence in Mexico continues to spiral out of control, thanks in big part to that nation’s lack of Second Amendment rights.  Yeah, those same rights we sometimes take for granted in America.  Yeah, civilians can buy guns and ammo in Mexico – from exactly one gun store in the nation.  After jumping through a maze of hoops.

Clearly, Mexico could use a Second Amendment to improve the quality of life for its residents to protect them from narco-thugs and corrupt government officials.

Meanwhile, in America, plenty of politicians and assorted leftists advocate for repeal of gun rights for the little people like you and me.  Of course, America’s gun control advocates have their armed security details to keep them safe.

  1. Violence on the border calmed down for a few years, but is picking back up again. I spend quite a bit of time down there, and I feel for my friends just on the other side. They live in very much a nightmare, with no way out.

  2. My last trip to Cozumel was great. But in the past couple of years, I’ve resisted the idea of ever vacationing there again.

  3. One word: shithole.

If I wanted to risk getting shot, stabbed, raped or killed as part of an exciting vacation experience, I would visit Detroit.

At least there I could pack my own heater to make it a fair fight.

    • Detroit is nice because you can cross the river into Canadia and gamble, buy huge jugs of whiskey and Cuban cigars, and visit the Asian Pleasure Palace.

        • Mandrake,
The reply button does nothing, so I will answer your question
In rural areas, locals have banded together to form self defense groups called “ auto defensas”
These groups at first used hunting rifles and .22’s and defeated local drug groups and acquired AK’s and Barret .50 cals thru battlefield capture
The autodefensas came into conflict with corrupt police and even military Units in the pay of the cartels
The government has legalized some of the autodefensas, mostly the Indian ones, and a few others
The legalized self defense units under military control use the M 4 rifle
The ones under police control are allowed open carry of pistols
The doctor who organized one of these units that refused to turn in its captured weapons was arrested
I’ ve heard nothing about what happened to him after that
People in the cities are reduced to obtaining illegal weapons
If you use it in self defense, you will be arrested

    • That’s the truth !! You could not pay me enough $ to take my family to such a corrupt shithole of a country. This is what our demagods want for us. No thank you. And go f..k yourselves !! Like I have said before , from my cold dead hands.

  4. Let’s see. No rule of law. Corrupt law enforcement and military. Inept and or corrupt legal system. No thank you.

    • This could also be said of San Francisco or Berkeley or San Jose or San Diego (except for the military), but those California cities have much lower crime despite having practically banned guns. Maybe there is something in the water that makes Mexico more dangerous compared to some neighborhoods north of the border.

      • the problem with all “Hispanic” countries is Spain. every country settled by spain is a SH county. Spain is still a 3d world SH. my definition of 3d world…farmer HAS to use animal power.

  5. You’re a liar, John. Strict gun control causes crime to cease.

Or so I’ve been told by bloomberg, soros, and their paid lap dog cisco kid.

They have no reason to lie. Do they?

    • Contrary to both sides, the evidence for or against national gun control is inconclusive for crime rates. The quality of people inside the country is a far greater factor. Japan and Sweden both have tight gun control, yet Japan is a very nice place to live while Sweden is a shithole.

Countries should be graded against themselves on the gun topic. High rates of gun ownership does reduce crime on a local level, but you can’t really take two countries and two different peoples and start comparing them. Throws most of the statistics out the window.

Kitchen knives are being used in as many as half of all stabbings in the United Kingdom and has prompted a group of doctors to call for a ban on long pointed kitchen knives.
An individual has to demonstrate that he had good reason to
possess a knife, for example for fishing, other sporting
purposes or as part of his profession (e.g. a chef) in a public
        place.
“The manufacture, sale and importation of 17 bladed, pointed
and other offensive weapons have been banned, in addition to
        flick knives and gravity knives.”
A spokesperson for the Association of Chief Police Officers
said: “ACPO supports any move to reduce the number of knife
related incidents, however, it is important to consider the
practicalities of enforcing such changes. This was 2005 in Britain
        in 2017

Machete-wielding moped gang ‘mugs entire street of innocent bystanders’ in Manchester

“Knife crime in London increased by 25% in the year to September 2017 London saw an increase in knife related incidents by almost 25%, accounting for 35% of the total knife crimes in the UK, with 12,980 reported cases.” this means the UK has over 37000 knike crimes a year, it has been reported that there is going to be an effort to ban some knifes.”However, knife crime is rising across the UK, not just here in London”

It means there are over 2,000 crimes recorded per 100,000 population in the UK, making it the most violent place in Europe.

Austria is second, with a rate of 1,677 per 100,000 people, followed by Sweden, Belgium, Finland and Holland.

By comparison, America has an estimated rate of 400 violent crimes per 100,000 population.

France recorded 324,765 violent crimes in 2007 – a 67 per cent increase in the past decade – at a rate of 504 per 100,000 population.

  6. I used to spend a lot of time in Mexico for business and pleasure. I really like the people, especially the folks in Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and the rest of Quintana Roo.

Things will begin to look up in Mexico once the Mexican federal government finishes going full Mariel Boatlift by opening up its prisons and insane asylums and shipping los locos y los criminales to Estados Unidos de América.

Unfortunately, that means that Texas will be a “battleground state” in the original meaning of the phrase.

    • They also settle in the other 56 states. A house on my street just rented to at least 2 complete families and they seem quite comfortable on a safe clean street . The owners moved south and didn t want to see so they rented. I’m wondering if they know 10 people are in a 3 bdrm house.

    • how easy or hard is it for civz. to get a hold of “illegal” guns and what are the penalties?

  7. Sounds an awful lot like Kalifornia, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, etc…Since these previous U.S. states have in the past… Seceded, to form similar 3rd world nation states…Mostly Eastern Bloc Socialist Police-States and the Left-Coast…..

  8. “The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

    Thomas Jefferson

  9. The Baja murder rate went up almost 300% (192-560) from 2016 to 2017. That is a 78/100k rate. I think it was at 70 per year in 2014 when I left. I think it was a small fraction of that in 2009 when I moved there. It used to be a ‘neutral zone’ for the cartels until about then.

  10. Vic Nighthorse: I’ve long suspected that those are just the bodies that are meant to be found. I’m betting that many people just disappear never to be seen again and are not part of the official count.

Mexico is one of three(?) countries that actually has a right to bear arms in their constitution. It is now just a piece of paper that means nothing.

That said, the civilian population has access to firearms despite that the government seeks to curtail ownership.

    • Nope; the current Mexican constitution guarantees only the right to KEEP arms in one’s home; not to “bear” them outside the home. While buying a gun legally at the army gun store requires jumping through a lot of hoops, buying one in the black market is straightforward. The authorities don’t seem to mind you keeping a gun in your home even if you bought it on the black market and didn’t register it.

  11. This is modern day America. A lot of people support such behavior and cheer it on. At least most will think it’s okay… Of course the corrupt government is hiring such people intentionally and voters put such people in power.

If America keeps it up, they too will be like Mexico.

    • meh, barreling down the highway with a rickety trailer trying to run from the cops is beyond dangerous to anyone else on the road. It’s the same as when they take out a savage who runs and breaks into other people’s private property to get away.

      • 50mph until pushed off the road into a ditch where he could not drive away. Then a mag dump when the truck is clearly unable to get back on the road. They already knew who he was, but instead they decided to endanger people on the road and execute him because they wanted to keep their cars nice and shiny. He wasn’t some murderer running away or some bank robber shooting up the neighborhood trying to escape. Then the leader of department has an orgasm talking about how awesome it was for the dude to get shot dead.

Is the second incident you are referring to is the young black guy shot in his yard?

They claim he was suspected of breaking a car window. He ran away by jumping over fences to get to his home. He tried to get in but it was locked, so he tried to use his cellphone to get someone to open the door. From the very low quality body cam, it appears he might be looking at his iphone as cops ran up on him and one of them proclaimed it’s a gun. When the black guy walked around the bench one cop shot him until he fell down on his hands and knees. Then the other cop started shooting when clearly the “threat” was down, which made the other cop start shooting again. Most of the hits occurred when the suspect was on the ground.

The cop that said the suspect had a gun — the cop who shot first — looked like he was anticipating using his gun heavily because he had an extended magazine in his gun. He was all operator like by telling his partner to do a “tactical reload” after the guy was incapacitated. He tells the cop that the suspect was still pointing when he fired and that he fired like 5 times (although it looks like he fired 2 strings of 5).

They say the guy might have survived if they provided medical a lot faster than they did. Although, if he is dead, he can’t defend himself.

If the quality of the videos were a lot better, it would be easy to determine if he was actually pointing his cellphone like a gun. Even then, both those cops did some things wrong.

Every time you give cops a pass, they will get cocky and start committing crimes; it’s a natural thing for humans to do. This is why the standard (and punishments) for government has to be higher than non government people. Mexico has low quality cops, which is why they murder for drug cartels and steal from innocent people. If you allow low quality people run your departments, you will have an entire police force of criminals who are willing to do whatever they are ordered to do.

  12. What does not get reported as a crime is the extortion the goes on. So we know that there is more crime than what is being reported.

This is where we are headed as our weak Congressman and Senators cave into gun control laws.

Where is the CNN report on this!

  13. LOL

Antigun morons think enacting gun control will make us like Europe (which isn’t so safe anymore with the invading migrants, bombs, acid attacks, and “trucks of peace”).

It will make us like Mexico or Brazil but on a grander scale. A bigger shithole.

  14. Yet this is what the DemoCrud and RINO’s anti gun utopia is supposed to look like. Hummmmm…….

  15. Flame Deleted- &$#@!!$hit&mexicants$#@ Fuk&SHIT_. π&+@#shit Mexicans…. BOMB sink Atlantis,,, shtfuk$#@&. &+(/$## Mexicans,,. Racist comment: Flame Deleted: n the same goes for the heroic and courageous Syrians who fled their country

  16. If Mexico were safe, I would definitely vacation there with my family every few years.

However, Mexico is rife with violent crime, corruption, and narco-wars. I won’t be spending any money there.

  17. Interesting how the three L’s Libertarians Liberals and the Left totally support an open border policy. This would allow even more rapists and more murderers to come here.

They say they use REASON to solve problems.
