I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

Same here. I love my Marine brethren. I love in the interview how he points out that Marines would likely go against orders to confiscate our arms. If that order is given, I pity everyone who tries to force the Marines to do that. It wouldn’t surprise me if they arrested that person and tried them for treason. We all swore to defend the Constitution, not unconstitutional laws.
Yet another example of how Marines never wake up in the morning, wondering like the rest of us: “Have I made a difference?”

My family have tradition in playing roles within law enforcement and military, active WITHIN the nation they were born and funnily enough as the American way is taking over our traditional ways we too become less inclined to fulfill prior duties.
The problem with war profiteers telling DiFi (a repungant liberal who supported the bombing of Serbia) to FOAD is that the pair of them are one in the same problem (M.I.C). Just remember that if they ban these weapons that they won’t do house to house searches. They will find a few people that they can rely on to resist and make an example of them. Ruby Ridge was the template for how they will respond.

A modern day Ruby Ridge is still quite possible. I think one or two are unavoidable. It won’t take very many before government exceeds a tipping point and life becomes dangerous for law enforcement officers in general — and exceedingly dangerous for law enforcement officers involved in confiscations and no-knock actions in the middle of the night.
The Internet will be instrumental in providing details of such actions because the mainstream media will not cover widespread government actions against citizens with no criminal history. Either that or mainstream media will try to paint every citizen who resists confiscations as domestic terrorists. Such activitiy on the part of the mainstream media, however, will only delay the inevitable response from the citizenry.

I would like to be a fly on the wall of Feinstein’s (or any other legislator’s) office right now. I’m genuinely curious how they handle the traffic at a time like this. We all know the story that the emails and snail mails are not actually read by the legislators themselves, but by staffers. I’m curious if they read the entire message, or simply go far enough to determine if this particular person is “for” or “against” the issue in question, and then perhaps move it to a “for” or “against” folder to be simply tallied up at the end of each day. I’m curious if the long, detailed position papers that some people write are, while likely cathartic to the author, ultimately a waste of time. It seems unlikely that you’re providing information to the legislator, you’re simply making your opinion known. If that’s the case, wouldn’t you be better served by simply sending an email with a clear indication of your position in the subject line, and then possibly including your intention to work against them should they not follow your wishes?

Matt, your suspicion is correct. Legislative staffs simply keep track of yes/no tallies from all sources, mail, email, phone calls, etc.
As a side note, the breakdown also includes where it came from: in or out of voting district.
Legislators, at all levels, have resorted to this method. Proof of how little they really care about REPRESENTING their constituents.

I used to work for a US Rep; the lowest staff assistant or intern reads the mail/emails/faxes. That person notes the topic and just about never notes the authors opinion. At the end of each day the intern provides a list of constituent topics and number of responses to a 23 year old “Legislative Correspondent.” The LC writes up a “constituent response letter” for each topic, based on the party’s stance on the issue (not the reps, especially if they are not a senior member of congress); the rep looks it over once, and the document is signed. The letter for that topic is filed and subsequently sent to each constituent that writes in about it. Every once in awhile the Rep will ask how much activity has come in for a particular topic. What the vast majority don’t understand is that 20 somethings staffers and lobbyists run this country…

Why do I keep hearing you people speak of confiscation without compensation… what the hell is there in this world that can compensate you for your rifle? If any of you like to shoot as much you have to agree there would be no “just” amount to repay! They might as well cut off my “gun” while they are at it.
I think it is obvious.. Compensation is just the law. You are right no amount of money would be acceptable, but that is a personal feeling not the law.

And also depends on your MOS. Combat Arms(Infantry, Rangers,SF,etc) tend to make rank faster.
Made E5/Sgt in 41/2yrs and E6 in 6 yrs the first time. By the time I got out with 15yrs in as a grunt with Ranger and Airborne I had made E6P but no E7 slots open for promotion in Infantry(11B) and you only have so long to get a slot and get promoted, too many med retirees holding our slots waiting on retirement or medical out.
Sucks but that’s how the business works!!

The best part is that all of this really comes down to Constitutionality – which the Supreme Court has already ruled on.
They said that the 2nd Amendment is “not without restriction,” and that there can, in fact, be laws limiting the availability of firearms to the general public, and regulation of the acquisition of firearms.
The Supreme Court is there to rule on the Constitutionality of law – which is made clear in the Constitution itself.
So if you really, truly and honestly believe that we should follow the Constitution, then you have to accept the Supreme Court’s ruling.
Otherwise, you’re just a hypocrite that will only follow the Constitution when you like what it says – and that’s not the American way of doing things. Not if you really follow the founding documents and their dictates.
You can’t have it both ways. Either you support the Constitution fully and the ruling that the Court it provides for has given, or you don’t support the Constitution at all and become unpatriotic in the process.
It’s pretty simple when you look at it objectively and logically.
You assume the Supreme Court is infallible. The justices are human and they have political leanings. They can and do make mistakes, intentional or not. Think Dred Scott, which took many years to correct. The 2nd amendment clearly states that there are to be no restrictions imposed on the peoples right to keep and bear arms with the phrase “Shall not be infringed” yet the Court ruled that there can be. To resist unconstitutional laws and rulings is the birthright of every American citizen. Restrictions on our rights once placed are almost never rescinded which leaves us with 2 options; compliance which leads to slavery or resistance. The Declaration of Independence gives us guidance on martial resistance while the Constitution guides us on civil resistance. The actions of our government are pushing us toward the martial side of the equation because the civil side seems to be failing. The Constitution is the law of the land and our government is breaking it.
