Let’s be clear. If yesterday’s church shooting in the West Freeway Church of Christ had taken place in another church (one without a security plan) or in another state (one that prohibits carrying firearms in houses of worship) the casualty count would likely have been much higher than it was. That’s a fact acknowledged by law enforcement and politicians alike in Texas yesterday.

Thankfully, as is well known by now, the West Freeway Church had a security plan, complete with armed congregants watching over those gathered for Sunday services. One of those armed individuals stepped in and ended the threat six seconds after the first shotgun blast.

The entire event was captured on video for all the world to see. Proof positive — despite all of the longstanding repeated denials — that good guys with guns really do stop bad guys bent on murder.

The very idea of people carrying firearms in a church or synagogue is anathema to the the gun-grabbing droogs of the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex. They can’t conceive of why anyone would want, let alone need a gun in a house of worship.

That bit of Bidenesque wisdom didn’t age well at all, did it? Slow Joe has been mysteriously silent on the matter of guns in church since yesterday’s shooting.

But don’t look for even incontrovertible evidence like that video to change any minds among America’s busy confiscation disarmament advocates. They can’t afford to let the possibility that guns really do save lives, and protect people and property enter into the conversation.

They simply have too much invested in the proposition that a disarmed society is somehow safer and more enlightened (not to mention most of them collect fat paychecks that depend on it) to brook any dissent.

And then there are those who simply will not see. It’s hard to articulate this any better than Marta Hernandez at Victory Girls Blog has when discussing the alarming regularity of anti-semitic attacks in and around New York City . . .

Social justice is apparently more important than actual public safety.

So in light of a drastic increase in anti-Semitic violence in the region, and the fact that Cuomo signed a “reform” that will let thousands of violent pieces of garbage out on the streets to terrorize the citizens, why is it that some Jews are still not only in the bag for the social justice lunacy that is putting their lives in danger, but are also refusing to see that armed self-defense can help save Jewish lives?

On Twitter – the cancer of the Internet – some brain-dead creature that claims it’s a writer is arguing that is never the solution.

“You want a society traumatized by gun violence, just peep the replies here,” she continues.

How else does one stop a machete-wielding villain from chopping up one’s loved ones? Kind words?

Jewish people in the United States have a longstanding aversion to firearms ownership. It’s a ridiculous one, to be sure, since the Torah actually commands Jews to defend their lives with lethal force, if need be. Given Jewish history and the continued anti-Semitic abuses of the Jewish people, it’s hard to believe that so many Jews think that doing nothing and remaining passive victims is the way to stop anti-Semitic attacks.

On the pro-gun side is the famous Talmudic dictum: If someone comes to kill you, rise up and kill him first. This statement from the Talmudic sage Rava is derived from a passage that permits a homeowner to kill an intruder in self-defense if the trespasser arrives in the night.

The Torah commands self-preservation, and Jews who stubbornly refuse to see it while preaching gun control, and claiming that Judaism’s prohibition on putting oneself in unnecessary danger proscribes gun ownership, are blinded by stupidity. How is sitting in one’s own home, celebrating the High Holy Days unnecessarily dangerous – even more so than owning a firearm for self defense?

So why is it that Jews like this David Klion, who is ostensibly Jewish, but thinks that protecting Jews from anti-Semitic violence should take a backseat to social justice virtue signaling about police abuses about “people of color,” absolutely refuse to see the value of armed self-defense to protect Jewish people from anti-Semitic attacks?

“…real costs, potentially even fatal ones, for tens of thousands of people who have no complicity in these attacks.”

OK, asshole. Now do gun owners.

No?

You don’t care about depriving hundreds of thousands of innocent American citizens of their fundamental rights – people who have no complicity in any shootings? Why not?

Why? Because those who view guns only as instruments of death that civilized people shun are constitutionally incapable of examining the data that show a country with 423 million guns (at least) is also a country with a historically low violent crime rate.

Their twisted world view is reinforced on a daily basis by like-minded members of the media who relentlessly push the narrative that guns are only capable of doing harm. So they won’t let a little thing like video evidence — a single defensive gun use among hundreds of thousands that take place each year — sway them.

The video of yesterday’s shooting has been widely disseminated among the People of the Gun. You can see it for yourself right here. Our post with that video has become the most-read post in TTAG history. As John Boch’s post made clear, there’s much to be learned from it.

Just don’t expect the people who really need to view that video to do so…or let it affect them in any meaningful way.

    Unless you’re into mental S&M there’s no particular reason to think about changing the minds of the antis. It’s about changing the minds of the people who are squishy and susceptible to the anti’s message and, much more importantly, the message of generally anti-freedom politicians.

    Until POTG recognize and act upon the fact that freedom is a package deal, of which guns are a part, we’re going to be hamstrung arguing about things that go up and fully-semiautomatic rifles.

    An analysis of the Global Terrorism Database by researchers at the University of Maryland published in 2017 shows a “sharp increase” in the share of attacks by right-wing extremists, from 6% in the 2000s to 35% in the 2010s. The share of attacks by religious extremists also increased, from 9% to 53% between the two decades.

    Meanwhile, the share of attacks by left-wing terrorists and environmentalist extremists dropped from 64% in the 2000s to 12% in the 2010s.

    Researchers point out that many recent attacks on US soil are carried out by individuals without any strong links to a terrorist organization—known popularly as “lone wolves.”

    The study defines “right-wing extremism” as “violence in support of the belief that personal and/or national way of life is under attack and is either already lost or that the threat is imminent,” including anti-globalism, white supremacy, nationalism, suspicion of the government, and beliefs in conspiracies.

    An analysis by Quartz of the same Global Terrorism Database confirmed that the trend persisted in 2017, when most attacks in the US were committed by right-wing extremists. Out of 65 incidents last year, 37 were tied to racist, anti-Muslim, homophobic, anti-Semitic, fascist, anti-government, or xenophobic motivations.

    That list includes an attack by neo-Nazi extremist James Fields against a crowd of counter-protestors in Charlottesville, which left one person dead. It also includes attacks against a gay bar in Puerto Rico, mosques in Washington, Texas, and Florida, and a vehicle decorated with Jewish iconography in New York.

    In the same period, seven attacks were linked to Islamic extremists, and 11 attacks were inspired by left-leaning ideologies.

    That right-wing activity is fueling a surge in terrorism in the US. Overall, the US had only six attacks a decade ago, but 65 in 2017. The number of fatalities is also increasing, in contrast to a global decrease in terror attacks.

    Terror attacks around the world fell from about 17,000 in 2014 to about 11,000 in 2017. They dropped almost 40% in the Middle East.

    I would have to add that the average Right Wing Moron does not know that Communism has been dead since the death of Stalin in the 50’s. Nor does the Moronic Far Right understand the difference between an economic plan and the politics of a government.

  11. The media is already emphasizing that the guy that defended the church was a retired FBI agent and that he was specially trained. And there already are people commenting on social media how a full ban on guns would have prevented this. So the typical narrative is already being spun….. big suprise

    Leftists don’t care about public safety. They care about their big government forcing their will on their cultural and political counterparts and that’s hard to do when your adversaries are armed. Of course, the real folly is that they think they can control the government leviathan they are creating.

        Why wouldn’t they despise the Right. It was the Far Right that weakened Obama Care this year and threw 30 million people off of Obama Care and now they have no care at all.

        It was Moscow Mitch McConnell, prostitute of the Drug Companies who took almost half a million in bribes so that no oversight of the Gangster Criminals of the Drug Companies were prevented from bankrupting 5 million Americans last year and murdering 125,000 more because they could not even afford Insulin which used to be as cheap as $25 Dollars a vile and now is so outrageous no one can afford it. How insane when Canada by contrast assimilates immigrants in less than two years because of Governmental programs that teach them English and the skills necessary to integrate. And its already paying off. Contrary to Right Wing Nazi propaganda Canada’s largest cities are flourishing because of the influx of immigrants and a recent Harvard Study proves that if you are in the lower economic strata your best bet whether your an immigrant or natural born citizen of the U.S. is to leave immediately for Canada because your chances of moving up the economic ladder are far more likely in Canada than in the corrupt country of Capitalvania where only the upper 1 per cent have a chance at economic prosperity and affordable education and health care.

        And the Racist Republicans have yet to do anything about the Daca Children who grew up in the U.S. and most cannot even speak Spanish yet the Right Wing Nazi’s want to dump them all off in a foreign country they never lived in and cannot even speak the local language not to mention the fact that many have now grown up and received college degrees and are working, many in the field of teaching.

        With an aging population the U.S. needs MORE IMMIGRANTS NOT LESS. Yet Republican hatred of immigrants is actually hurting the economic prosperity of the U.S.

They are the enemy of economic prosperity, public safety, affordable health and drug care and affordable higher education.       History has already proven you wrong. Big Government in Western Europe has had less mass murders by maniacs with guns that we do. So the question is what are they doing right and what are doing wrong. Well that is obvious they have sane and solid gun control laws that do work and do keep many guns out of the hands of the mentally ill and the criminals and yes even the terrorists. Twice within a year the terrorists failed in Britain and in Europe when they were successful they had to import guns from a terrorist country.   14. It was reported tonight on NBC that the Black man with the hatchet had writings and Nazi Paraphernalia including swastikas in his house. He also had a history of mental illness. Not surprising since he was obviously Far Right with all that Nazi paraphernalia.

    It was also reported that the other shooter with the shotgun in the Synagogue was White. No more info yet has been given as to his political ideology. But obviously it was not far left that is for sure.

  19. As I have stated countless times, committed Progressives and civilian disarmament proponents do not care about facts, truth, nor reasoning. They only care about emotion and some capricious notion of virtue.

    They readily dismiss this excellent example of armed defenders one of two ways:
    (1) It was a fluke! Most times the armed defenders will cause more carnage than if everyone was unarmed!
    (2) There isn’t supposed to be violence in our unicorns and rainbows utopia that we all desperately long to achieve! Therefore, anyone who is willing to be violent, even for self-defense, isn’t pure enough to be part of our utopia. And violent self-defense is so distasteful and immoral that it truly is superior to be a beaten/raped/dead defenseless victim!

    • Given the FACTS which I have just stated, I have come to a stark and extremely unpalatable conclusion: committed Progressives and civilian disarmament advocates are mentally broken people, just as mentally broken as a violent criminal who has no qualms robbing, beating, raping, and/or murdering an innocent victim.

      Therefore, I have lost interest in trying to discuss anything with them. Just as I have no interest in discussing the “merits” of a violent criminal’s intended violent crime, I have no interest in discussing the “merits” of Progressives intended crimes to violate our inalienable rights. Rather, my interest is limited to telling them that their desires are crimes against humanity for violating our inalienable rights, and that they will reap their just reward for doing so.

  20. The old man that killed the impostor had a better mentality and training than most law enforcement. He made sure to wait for a clear shot and went for the head shot (though told by trainers to never go for head shots). Once the gunman was down he stopped shooting and made sure to not put others in danger. He was not afraid to approach the gunman and take the gun from him. Very different than what the average law enforcement officer does. He didn’t panic, he didn’t freak out after, he was clear headed the entire time even when faced with the death of his long time friends.

    Of course that man was chosen to be the leader of security for that church. They don’t make people like that anymore.

    I heard he had a DA/SA handgun. A lot of Youtubers complain about DA triggers and how they can’t accurately shoot targets with such a gun. This man must have practiced beyond what the average gun owner does. A head shot, at a long distance, using a double action, with people in the way.
