Training
One of the exceptional aspects about The Range at Austin is the training program. Training and education are the foundation of the facility and they pride themselves on the quality and completeness of the offerings.
Jeff Gonzales is the best of the best, and lucky for us he is running the training show at TRA. Jeff is a decorated Navy SEAL and ran Trident Concepts LLC for several years before coming over to TRA. He understands that training is not something that happens in a vacuum, but rather is the best means for preparing for real-life defense scenarios.
Jeff can make anyone feel comfortable on the range and can offer instruction on anything from a basic LTC course to an advanced combative carbine or close quarters fighting course.
Retail
After you’ve taken a training course (or 3) with Jeff you’re going to get that itch. It’s time to buy (another) firearm. Lucky for you the hardest part of purchasing a firearm or any other gear at TRA is just deciding what you want.
The Range at Austin has everything, and if they don’t have it, they’re sure to know how to get it. TRA offers 7,000 square feet of retail space full of firearms, accessories, apparel, ammo, EDC gear, and more.
Highlights include 700 sq ft of fully dedicated SIG SAUER retail space, the use of TV’s as info panels for all of the available firearms, including an entire room dedicated solely to 1911’s. I had to pinch myself when I walked in for the first time; you will too.
Walk In
Once you’ve purchased that new firearm and a few boxes of ammo, time to send some lead down range. TRA offers thirty-seven rifle-rated lanes at the range and twenty-nine of them are available to walk-in shooters.
Of those twenty-nine lanes, there are twenty-four, 25 yard lanes and five, 100 yard lanes and every single one of them is rifle rated up to .50 BMG. No membership is required to shoot on these lanes but it pays for itself so fast you’d be missing the boat not to get one. (One of the best perks is you can reserve range time).
The last part of the walk-in experience, but perhaps the best, is the massive rental arsenal available to shooters at TRA.
The Range not only has more guns than any other range, but they are better. I’m talking MP5 SD better. Full-auto Friday takes on a whole new meaning when you have sub-guns available on an hourly rental basis. The rental inventory is building and once complete, more than 300 firearms will be offered.
Patriot Club
The Patriot Club is everything you could want from your range and more. The Patriot Club is a VIP member-only space which you access through a separate entrance. Once you’re upstairs you will be greeted by a concierge who will make sure that everything is ready to go for you.
The Patriot club has private lockers, a walk-in humidor, conference rooms, a bar for events, and a smoking patio space, not to mention the 8 member-only, 25 yard lanes. The Patriot Club is truly the pinnacle of a private shooting experience.
Conclusion

Well if I ever win the lottery and end up with more money than sense I’ll check it out. Other wise I’ll just stick to my $10 a lane outdoor range.
I’ll pay the extra few bucks to shoot indoors when it’s as hot as the sun in the summer months. But hey…to each their own. 🙂
Sweet baby Jesus. Do you know the crap ranges we have in Southern California? With a couple of exceptions, they look like abandoned warehouses. This, in a metropolitan area of about 10 million.
We always got together and shot on BLM land.
Thats because LA locals don’t bother with ranges, when the streets of compton are free to use.

At the most basic, it’s $75 sign up + $500 a year. Or it’s $25/hr. for pistol $30/hr. for rifle. I’ll go to Eagle Peak or Lone Star and pay $15 for all day shooting. Not to mention that at Eagle Peak the rifle range goes out to 300 yards not 100 like this place.

As for the range, very nice, but I’ll take the great outdoors any day.
A high end firing range in Austin? Now that is weird.
Not really, it’s a shooting range for those with more $$ than sense, fits right in here.
Actually, my understanding is that the property literally straddles the city limits. The building housing the range is a few feet outside the city limits, which is nicely convenient as the city would never approve construction of a gun range.
All I can say is: Meh. I’d have to go there and shoot every single weekend just to make the most basic membership make $ sense, and quite frankly, I can’t afford to shoot that much, considering it’s at least $100 in ammo every time I go to the range. I’ll stick with My outdoor ranges that are $15 for all day. It’s a “Gun-try club” (I think is the cool phrase) and too much for most to comfortably afford. Overall, not really impressed.
Sounds great if I was looking for a country club kinda’ deal. Oh well…

A well lit indoor range…what will they think of next. I prefer shooting outdoors, but this place does look awesome!
With all the well to do in Williamson county, and generally GOP friendliness of that county, I’m a little surprised they didn’t open it up there.
