I’m wondering how in the wide world of sports they are gonna get that nail out of his head? And will the removal do more damage than when the nail went in?
If that’s the actual x-ray of mr. Artullo’s punkin, I want to know why his nail gun inserts nails head first.
Most nail guns have no form of trigger guard. Plus, their weight and attached pneumatic line tend to make people grip them hard with all 4 fingers. Once the muzzle safety is depressed as it hits something the gun discharges. I’ve seen this happen a few times. I know 1 guy who nailed his foot to a roof this way.
How did he shoot himself in the head at the angle you see in the photo? Something doesn’t seem right about this. But then again, this was out of (GUN-RESTRICTED) Chicago. Didn’t learn the 4 (or five) gun safety rules in any school out there.
Probably just rotated after entry, the rifling on nail guns is less than stellar.
It’s important to have a round that tumbles upon impact.
I find myself in all sorts of weird positions with nail guns, and it is easy to get too casual. Nail guns generally bump fire, which is great when you’re in a hurry, but a lot of carpenters get in the habit of keeping their finger on the trigger all the time, even going up and down ladders, etc., which is not good.
I just saw an interview with him on TV, and he said that he thinks his arm got tired as he lifted it and it came down near the back/side of his head. The mark that the girlfriend saw on his forehead may have been unrelated…
Not too surprising that it happened. I’ve worked on a few framing crews and SOP is to disable the safety (the piece that has to be pushed in on the surface being nailed) on the nail gun. Makes it pretty easy to put nails through hands.
Rule Number 5: Never give a loaded nail gun to a GF who was expecting a diamond ring for Christmas and got Bulls tickets instead.
You’re really having a bad day if you can manage to shoot yourself in the back of the head with anything, never mind a nail gun.
