Like other national distributors, Lipsey’s is always looking to add value to fixed margin firearms (i.e. make more money). And so the Baton Rouge-area gun seller’s making and selling Glocks in Flat Dark Earth frames. The camo-crazed multiple handgun-owning Glock aficionados amongst us can go dark on Gen 3 Model 17, 19, 22, and 23s; as well as the Gen 4 Model 17, 19, 21, 22, and 23s. “GLOCK set the standards by which all other polymer pistols are judged,” Lipsey’s buyer Brett Frey said, doing his level best to piss off owners of any other type of polymer pistol (which they also sell). “The addition of our exclusive Flat Dark Earth models gives the [Glock] consumer a choice other than all black.” As does lauerweaponry.com, FYI.

  1. …gives the [Glock] consumer a choice other than all black. THAT’S RACIST (according top Jesse & Al) /s

    • That’s not ‘dirt brown’, it’s ‘baby-poo brown’. Ask any parent.

And the tacticool crowd will pay a premium to get it.

Ah, well. It’s their money, not mine.

  2. That is one farking ugly gun. I’m hard-pressed to think of anything that looks good in two-tone, but that’s a particularly unattractive example.

And as for the desirability of products in shades of brown, I have one word for you: Zune. (Now I only hope this message doesn’t get trapped in the spam filter, since I get a ton of the Zune spam crap on my blog.)

That may be the second-ugliest handgun I’ve seen in recent years (the ugliest still being the Taurus Zombie Responder).

If the entry hadn’t been posted March 28, I would suspect an April Fools joke…

    • “Taurus Zombie Responder”
      —–
I didn’t believe you, so I Googled. Now I need eye bleach. FML.

  3. I’ve got an XD in dark earth. I would prefer black, but I got a sweet deal on it so i picked it up. I don’t think it looks bad.

    • Some years ago, I picked up an OD G27 for the same reason. I would have preferred black, but the OD one was $100 cheaper at my LGS.

  4. My Glocks are all black and ugly, but the other colors really bring out the ugly. The only thing I like about Glocks is that you can always count on them to work when you really need them.

  5. Lipsey’s is in Baton Rouge (“east of downtown toward New Orleans”, per its website), not in the New Orleans area. In fact, there are no sellers of firearms in New Orleans at all.

  6. Black guns are bad enough. Camo guns? Who wants a gun that’s hard to find if you drop it? Silver guns may be ugly, but they sure are practical.

  7. I’ve been thinking about this gun. It would go well with a UPS uniform, same dark brown color. I wonder if they will make one in white (snow camo)? I’ve already seen white forearms and stocks for the AR platform rifles.

  8. It’s ugly until you have to crawl through dirt, mud and brush. Then it’s great because black is not a natural color.

  9. Are these frames molded in this color or are they just finished in it? I mean, why not just get your existing glock a dura-coat finish? What makes these better (other than some imagined “collector’s value”)?

  10. These FDE frames are factory built, molded in the color, they are not painted. They dont photograph that well but in your hand they look kinda handsome, a nice contrast from black. What would be great is for the next model the Glock 40 to be a G19/G23 size frame mated to a G26/G27 length slide, that would be my perfect size Glock.
