“Before I was sent out to use it, I had to prove an intimate familiarity with my weapon — how it worked, its maximum effective range in meters, how to load and unload it safely, how to disassemble and reassemble it, how to clean it, clear jams, sight it and fire it accurately. So it’s hard for me to fathom how easy it is for almost any civilian to walk out of a gun retailer carrying a new weapon without a clue about so many of these standards.” – Michael E. Diamond in The Texas school shooting reminds America what vets already know: civilian gun culture is a dysfunctional mess [via nbcnews.com]

  1. Those damn untidy civilians thinking they have a right to keep and bear firearms without the formality of proper military procedures.. oh wait, they do. Something about 2nd amendments and such. Never mind.

    • Whoever that guy was he described what every recruit in every branch learns in the first few weeks of basic training….. He had to learn that before he deployed? Shouldn’t he be talking about IA drills, combat applications, and putting a million rounds down range through his gun durring pre-deployment spinup?!? He’s basically describing the basic manual of arms and maintainence. Any idiot can learn that at their leasure….. I question this POG’s rifle knowlege.

  2. “So he wants these killers to be better trained, practiced and prepared!?!?!?!?!”

Is how anti’s spin the anti argument of another anti to be meta anti.

  3. Michael, you are supposing that your opinion is equal to real life experience. A common error, but especially annoying in someone who it would seem should know better.

A constantly falling number of accidents, and ongoing lack of aggressive behavior by ordinary people who carry guns, do not add up to this “dysfunctional mess” you indicate. You offer zero proof of it.

The dysfunction of government indoctrination “schools” and the welfare/warfare STATE are equally obvious and clearly documented by those who care. The real dysfunction is in the minds of so many people who seem to think they can have the bogus “safety” of government control, right along with their own individual “rights” – yet willing to do almost anything to control the life and property of others.

    • “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ” -Benjamin Franklin
This sure seems to apply to a great many of the sheeple today.

      • That and something else Mr./Dr. Franklin said, that is also our responsibility that we haven’t kept well.

        Benjamin Franklin (1706–90)
QUOTATION: “Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?”

“A Republic, if you can keep it.”

    • Yep. The facts show that those that are law abiding that are of the “gun” culture is one of the demographics that is most responsible and mature in the practice of this particular right. The fact that those with CC licenses are the most law abiding demographic of any group, more law abiding than police. The fact that in states with constitutional carry, which means a law abiding person can OC or CC a firearm without a permit it license, (now 13), the overall crime rate has either stayed the same in some, but has actually dropped in the majority of states. (No blood in the streets, caused by law abiding gun owners shooting each other over parking spaces).

No, the only “dysfunction” is shown by men raised in broken homes; which includes most criminals and the vast majority of school shooters.

Three behaviors that the Brookings Institute shows would solve almost all poverty, drug use, criminality and the very few mass shooters not founded in a homicidal and totalitarian beliefs like Islam or communism; finish high school, get a full time job and wait until 21 to get married before having a child.

  4. The majority of civilians buying a firearm know these things as well.

It’s not some top secret information only special forces operators know, peasants in Afghanistan figured it out.

    • Exactly. Learning the basics of handling a gun isn’t rocket science.

Any time that a supposed expert adopts a worldview which says, “Only experts have the expertise to expertly do this thing I’m an expert at,” you should immediately question their motives, irrespective of the subject matter.

  5. and that’s what the owner’s manual is for! RTFM it will teach you how to load, unload, clean, lubricate, zero, and clear a malfunction. Also I agree with kitchawan we desperately need firearm safety in schools maybe even a little marksmanship training, we already know kids are into guns just look at NERF, Super Soaker, Daisy, Crossman, video games, and movies. So let’s at least let them learn a bit more about the “real” counterpart to their toys and digital fantasies.

  6. Civilians are just that, a civilian. He or she doesn’t need training because there this thing called freedom.
Should they know how to use a certain weapon? Absolutely.
I have the utmost respect for military personnel, same for law enforcement but you exist to protect freedom, not to lecture me.

    • Joatmon…..and the media is saying that only retired police and ex military should be the only ones qualified to protect our children in school. Forget us goofy citizens that were raised with guns and have been safely handling them and hunting for years. No way could we get extra training in active shooter scenerios and be qualified. Where does this thinking come from.

      • “Joatmon…..and the media is saying that only retired police and ex military should be the only ones qualified to protect our children in school. Forget us goofy citizens that were raised with guns and have been safely handling them and hunting for years. No way could we get extra training in active shooter scenerios and be qualified. Where does this thinking come from.”

        Really? You actually are puzzled?
Fact: police and ex-military do not shoot-up schools and malls (there was one church).
Fact: it is “civilians” with guns who are responsible for all the non-gang/criminal shootings.
Fact: it is “civilians” with guns who are most likely to “go off” and start blasting away.
Fact: it is “civilians” with guns who represent the greatest danger to the nation
Fact: if there were no guns in “civilian” hands, there would be no shootings by “civilians” (non-gang/criminal).

After years of “civilians” shooting innocents, years of media publicity, you still do not know why cops and ex-military are more trusted than Tom, Dick and Harry? Do you not read the news? Huffington Post? Mother Jones? Watch CNN? MSNBC? Bloomberg? How can you be so out of touch with reality? You must be a “gun nut”. A “deplorable” clinging to your guns and bible.

        • Umm, that former cop in California, the military guy in Texas, the one in the DC naval yard.

There are plenty of abusive personalities in law enforcement, not everyone, but they are well represented.

Plenty of military with emotional/psychological issues.

Seems to me they are what we are, human, and as such shouldn’t have any extra carve outs in their rights.

        • What is clear from your post is that you DO waste time watching & listening to these sources of fake news. You can’t think for yourself any longer, mate; face up to it. Oh, and I’d put a lot of money on a bet that you vote Democrat. You’re the kind of bozo who put the likes of Barry, Nancy, Crooked, and Lewinsky Clinton in office.

  7. Here are the areas where I think the gun culture is dysfunctional in the actual sense of the word:

FUDDS and other gun rights compromisers
People who are careless with their firearms and give the vast majority of safe owners/users of guns a bad name (disclaimer: I am not advocating training as a requirement for ownership/carry of firearms)
Gun owners who don’t contribute any time, money or effort toward 2A activism

    • “I am not advocating training as a requirement for ownership/carry of firearms”

      Gun ownership: no.

      Highschool diploma: yes?

  8. Military service men and women also have some of their rights and liberties suspended, at least temporarily while they serve.

    Civilian citizens don’t. Ever.

  9. Given the amount of NDs, the police and paramilitary does worse than the serf civilians.
As was pointed out earlier, peasants easily can figure out an AK-47.

  10. Geee….looks like AKs in the photo. You really need high speed low drag trainers and operators to figure one of those out?
Room full of room temperature IQs?

  11. “Before I was sent out to use it, I had to prove an intimate familiarity with my voice — how to speak clearly, its maximum volume, how to choose words, how to make and retract statements, how to brush my teeth, floss, choose my topic and speak articulately. So it’s hard for me to fathom how easy it is for almost any civilian to walk out on the streets expressing their opinions without a clue about so many of these standards.”

    • Last pistol I purchased was one of the plastic fantastics.
While waiting for the check to go through the old Fudd clerk made a big show of demonstrating how to take it down. I said “Yeah, they’re all pretty much the same. Manipulate the lever, remove the slide, everything comes apart. Nothing special here.” And just did it before he had a chance to “show me.”

He looked at me like I was a wizard.

Never underestimate the stupidity of people. Mike Diamond may very well think it’s a great accomplishment to take down a firearm. One that required he put in hours of study and practice. Pat him on the head and say “congratulations, Mike!” and hand him a lolly.

      • “While waiting for the check to go through the old Fudd clerk made a big show of demonstrating how to take it down. ”

If I were an FFL, I would insist in demonstrating the take down, and use of all safety features. Developing a reputation for such demonstration would go a long way defending a law suit from some doof claiming he shot himself because nobody told him how to safely maintain the weapon. If I sell my peashooter to a private party, you can bet that person will get a “demonstration”.

        • “If I were an FFL, I would insist in demonstrating the take down, and use of all safety features.”

20 years ago, *long* before it was ‘fashionable’, a pawn & gun I worked at put clamp-style trigger locks on every gun in the store, and had every customer sign a statement that a gun store employee showed the purchaser how to load, unload, and operate the weapon’s safety mechanisms. I asked why the change, and he replied “Because someone is gonna get sued.”

Even more interestingly, one of his employees, a buddy of mine, opened up his own pawn & gun a few years later. Without any law requiring it (at the time), he carried over the trigger lock and safety demonstration with a signature…

  12. troop would do well to remember this and keep his boot mouth shut.

I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

Oh wait that won’t get him a cushy job with NBC or a political candidacy. Yes, we all hate civilians to some degree after Basic but most of us eventually snap out of it and grow to envy the hell outta civvies. Yall can go out tonight get white girl wasted, drive, get pulled over and it only ruins your weekend. Do that shit in any branch of the military and you, my friend, just got your whole company recalled from pass and locked down for a month or more.

    • And remember that your oath does not end when they hand you your dd 214 it ends when your in a pine box.

  13. Oh lord, let’s not get into the average military member’s competency in any facet of firearms. Just because you “teach” something doesn’t mean it is learned. I would trust a new gun owner that has interest in firearms over a bored private every day all day long.

      • That’s an odd spelling of POG….. Which technically should be POTG but hey it’s infantry we’re honestly surprised some can put 2 letters together let alone 3 without eating the crayon we gave them and drawing peckers all over the walls.

POG (POTG or That odd spelling the OP used) means Person Other Than Grunt which is pretty much anyone not Infantry. Could be Tankers, Scouts, or any other M.O.S. without Infantry in it’s title and a fancy blue cord on its shoulder.

  14. The military learns these lessons for one reason. To maximize their killing ability and efficiency when necessary. The only reason the military cares about your ability to clear malfunctions and clean and take down a weapon is so that you can get back to killing quicker and more reliably. Learning the range of your weapon is more to save the government some money by not having you shooting at things you can’t possibly hit.

So his argument is that we should teach civilian gun owners these things. Is he actually arguing that civilians need more training to be better killers? Seems like his argument doesn’t mean what he thinks it does.

  15. How many people walk out of a car dealership with intimidate details about the engineering and upkeep of their vehicles?

    • well having sold cars for a short time. I can tell you 95% of all car buyers leave that dealership with no fracking clue as to how to even program the presets on the radio… and no owner really wants to sit through the demonstration on how to use those features. Yet your salesman will still get bitched at for not showing you how to work all those doodads should you return and tell the service department said doodads are inoperable so please do your salesman a favor next time you buy a car and he/she starts going through the process of showing you how to pair your phone to the radio and how to set up the presets. Please PAY ATTENTION.

  16. I don’t think it was lack of training that impelled the 17 year old to commit mass murder, Michael. Maybe daddy should have secured his weapons better, but we don’t know that yet.

How the left fetishizes military service reveals a deep unfamiliarity with how the military operates and what enlisted personnel do. While I thank an E4 Electronics Tech for his service, and it is undoubtedly important in making the big machine operate well, and I’m sure he can fix the heck out of a TV, I really don’t think I have a thing to learn from him about firearms.

  17. Golly my 1st gun was a revolver. Other than loading and pulling the trigger I was good to go…that 17year old puke had no problem yesterday with decidedly low tech gats😧

  18. The problem is, we have allowed the anti Second Amendment crowd to define the terms.
A firearm is a tool which possesses no evil intent on its own. Assigning intent to an inanimate object is the epitome of insanity. Demonizing a weapon on “looks alone” also marks the accuser as an unstable individual who is also insane. Call them out on their illogic and insanity.
Another dirty tactic the anti-Second Amendment crowd uses exposes children to potential and actual harm by putting them in “gun-free zones”. These people care not one wit about children, but uses them for their own nefarious purposes.
We need to TAKE BACK the argument…
When the antis blame the firearm for the actions of a criminal, state that: “a firearm is an inanimate object, subject only to the intent of the user”. Firearms ARE “equalizers” and are used to preserve life and make a 90 lb. woman equal to a 200 lb. criminal”.
When the antis attempt to justify their “gun free zones” counter their misguided argument with “you mean, criminal safety zones” or “victim disarmament zones”.
State that “we protect our money, banks, politicians and celebrities, buildings and facilities with PEOPLE WITH GUNS, but protect our children with “gun-free zone” signs”.
When the antis state that: “you don’t need and AR-15”, counter with, “Who are YOU to consider what I need or want?”
When the antis criticize AR-15s in general, counter with: “you mean the most popular rifle of the day, use able by even the smallest, weakest person as a means of self-defense. Besides, AR-15s are FUN to shoot”. Offer to take them to the range and supply them with an AR-15, ammunition and range time. I have made
    many converts this way.
When the antis state that: “You don’t need an AR-15 to hunt with”, counter with “AR-15s ARE used for hunting, but in many states, are prohibited from being used to take large game because they are underpowered”.
When the antis state that: “AR-15s are high powered rifles”, correct them by stating that “AR-15s with the .223 or 5.56mm cartridge are considered medium-powered weapons–NOT “high-powered” by any means”.
When the antis state that: “the Constitution was written during the time of muskets, and that the Second Amendment should only apply to “weapons of that time period”, state that: “by your logic, the First Amendment should not apply to modern-day telecommunications, internet, television, radio, public-address systems, books and newspapers produced on high-speed offset printing presses. Only “town-criers” and Benjamin Franklin type printing presses would be covered under the First Amendment”.
When the antis state that “only law enforcement and government should possess firearms”, remind them of the latest school shooting, as well as Columbine, where “law enforcement” SAT ON THEIR HANDS while children were being murdered, citing “officer safety”, afraid to challenge the shooter, despite being armed to the hilt. The government-run murderous sieges at Ruby Ridge and Waco are also good examples of government (mis)use of firearms. Let’s not forget the millions murdered under communism by their governments AFTER their firearms were confiscated.
This tome can be used to counter any argument against any infringement of our Second Amendment.

    • Oh so true. Now if only it were as simple as educating the know it all ” That’s actually clueless ” we might get somewhere on this debate. When someone has something so engrained in their mind , it is almost impossible to change their way of perceiving the truth. But we can try , or die in the process. So many sheople in this country believe what the Leftards have taught them. Fn pathetic !!

  19. Quite often, firearms owners are their own worst enemies. The duck hunters don’t like the AR-15 “black rifles” so they see no problem if attempts are made to ban them. The traditional rifle owners don’t like machine guns, so they have no problem with them being legislated out of existence. Some pistol owners see nothing wrong with certain long guns being outlawed just as some rifle owners would have no problem seeing pistols banned.
Friends, ALL firearms advocates must “hang together” and realize that an assault on ANY means of firearms ownership and self-defense is an assault on ALL forms of firearms ownership and self-defense.
There is absolutely NO ROOM for complacency among ANY Second Amendment supporters. An attack on one is an attack on ALL…
ALL firearms laws are unconstitutional on their face. Imagine the hue and cry if “reasonable” restrictions were placed on First Amendment activities, especially with the “mainstream media”. The Second Amendment is clear–what part of “shall not be infringed” do politicians and the media not understand…of course, they understand full well…it’s part of their communist agenda…

    • Believe it or not I do agree with everything you said except the totally ignorant last line of your post. People who are concerned about the firearms problems in this country after witnessing an almost weekly river of blood flowing down the halls of our schools are not Communists as you claim. Its thinking like this that divides the American people so that no compromise is possible. Its become an all out take everything away by a frustrated and horrified general public versus do absolutely nothing which is the battle cry of the unwashed who fail to see the hand writing on the wall as they are a minority in the country whether they realize it or not. Doing nothing absolutely guarantees they will lose everything and it may be coming far sooner than the unwashed can even imagine in their wildest nightmares. The Far Right has always been their own worst enemy.

      • The proven communist agenda and history of nothing but blood and death and tyranny and absolute madness?

Communism and all of it’s rotten and fetid spawn(Marxism, socialism, facism, progressivism) has shown the true face of evil in it’s exploration of state sponsored democide.

Communism and the hammer and sickle should be held in even greater contempt than Nazism and the swastika, just on the body count alone; after all, “only” 15 million due to Hitler, versus the hundreds of millions by Stalin and Mao.

        • To Thomas who Rants in his sleep.

Strange you rant about a failed system that no longer exists. Please move into the 21st century.

As my old High School teacher taught us over 1/2 century ago both Communism and Capitalvania eventually blended together choosing the best of both worlds and Socialism was born and adopted by every industrialized nation on the face of the earth including even the more primitive and barbarous U.S.A.

Ever hear of Social Security or Medicare or Medicaid? It was born out of Communism and adapted into the Capitalistic U.S. before it turned Socialistic, its just that we still do not have all of the socialistic programs that the other advanced industrialized countries have had for decades. Yes you do not have to admit you flunked even high school economics class its rather obvious.

        • I’m guessing cisco is another eurowussy here to advise us colonies on how to better ourselves. Thanks for sharing but we don’t need/want your marxist EU BS.

        • Ahhh, yes Cisco Kid. Immediately go to adhomnems and denigration of your opponent. Alinsky Rules for Radicals.

You see Cisco, I don’t need to do that with you and your beliefs, because the facts, the history and examples are horrendous enough that prove my points. The fact that Progressives, (one spawn of communism) , as a group, refuse to see the unborn as humanbeings, and the state sponsored democide that has murdered over 50 million babies as the result, to me, proves that the bloody history of communism continues.

You see, the other aspect of socialism is the absolute contempt for those humanbeings that have survived the womb.

Those that promote capitalism , on the other hand, have an absolute respect for the adult. Capitalism assumes that an adult, once they move from their parents house, is now responsible for their own food, shelter warmth and self-defense . Oh, and their own health care and schooling.

Socialism, and all of its socialistic programs such as Social Securityl, Medicaid and Medicare; assume, (with great contempt) that you as an adult, never fully grew up, never fully took responsibility for yourself, that you’re still emotianally living in your mommy’s and Daddy’s basement. You have just replaced the government and made them your mommy and daddy.

There’s really only a couple of different scenarios where a person is taken care of from birth to death. When you are child, when you are a slave and when you’re in a prison. If you think like a child, if you think like a slave, if you think like a prisoner, then you will expect to be taken care of by your betters.

A person who is free takes responsibility for themselves; they will not accept anything less than personal responsibility for their food, their shelter, their warmth, their self-defense, oh and their education and health care.

So go right ahead, think like a slave, think like a prisoner, think like a child that still lives with your mommy and daddy; for myself, I choose to be a free and mature responsible adult.

  20. I served in a Marine infantry unit and saw plenty of ND’s. Training and knowledge doesn’t make you any better it’s all about a proper mindset.

  21. Well the military is providing ammo for schools now LOLhttps://www.google.com/amp/s/taskandpurpose.com/ammo-box-roof-texas-school/amp/

  22. A military intelligence officer in the reserve for seven years? And? I’ll leave the “intelligence” part of that alone and suggest that we take Michael and all his training and drop him in with an Army Ranger unit in the middle of a fire fight in Afghanistan and ask him what he thinks. After he cleans out his shorts.

  23. Michael E. Diamond served as a military intelligence officer in the United States Army Reserve for seven years.

listen, spaz. someone with an iq of 80 or higher can learn the “standards” you list in an afternoon of youtube searches and two hours on a rifle range.

it isnt hard for any of us to fathom why you regard us as a “dysfunctional mess”. its because you hate us and you hate our liberty, but we dont care. we remain free, and theres nothing you can do about it.

  24. Mr. Diamond makes some very good points. In civilized countries people must go through some very rigorous training before they get a right to a firearms purchase card which includes safe handling of firearms, how they function, when you can and cannot use them for self defense, and if you are a hunter the myriad of game laws and if you join a shooting club (sometimes mandatory) what are the proper safety procedures on the shooting range.

I have witnessed far too many times people on shooting ranges or people taking concealed carry classes that did not know even the basic safe gun handling procedures. When I took my own concealed carry class it involved a live shoot with live ammunition and some of the morons taking the class even included of all people a Doctor who was the most dangerous idiot on the range. He was even chewed out by the instructor for not having the basic knowledge of even knowing how to safely load and handle his weapon. When I later in time told the Doctor that if he shot someone he might not be charged with any criminal prosecution but would indeed have to face a civil lawsuit from the victims relatives that would cost him thousands even if he won in the case the greed factor kicked in and he changed his mind about concealed carry as he admitted he had way too hot an uncontrollable temper to ever be trusted carrying a firearm.

I must say when I took the live fire course I did so as fast as possible and naturally volunteered to go first and then vacate the premises as fast as I could since gun barrels were pointed in every direction except down range at the target.

Yes in the primitive, uncivilized and barbarous U.S. of Hay the Hillbilly factor has been allowed to exist for way too long a time in history. Its time we move into the 21st Century and if we want to go on owning firearms pass some civilized laws to insure people are trained properly before they undertake the serious responsibility of owning a firearm as it was never meant to be just fun and games slathered with total irresponsibility when handling deadly weapons. That is only common sense which is an attribute at the present time totally unknown to the backwoodsmen of the original 13 colonies who thought they knew more than the civilized British Empire when they decided to go it alone and threw their future of democracy right down the out house shit hole and the consequences of this still haunt the American people’s lives to this very day. But that is another historical truth that the American people are still not educated enough to understand or accept.

    • Dude, I assume you get paid to be here, because you spout the same nonsense over and over again, like a broken record… or a clock, except you aren’t even right twice a day.

This country is the epitome of civilized, other countries have the option to emulate us and succeed, or try to drag us down to their level so they don’t have to work as hard.

I’m guessing you are more of the “participation trophy” type of guy… why not move to one of these countries and then you too can have socialized medicine, unarmed neighbors, and coming soon to a country you are in… Muslim Theocracy.

      • to LiliJoe back woodsman

Surprise surprise you racist scum bag. We already have 6 million Muslim Americans who work hard everyday and are working in every occupation in the U.S. including governmental positions its just that you do hot live in the real world only a world of racism, hatred and bigotry the exact antithesis of everything it means to be a “real American” who believes that the Constitution guarantees equal rights for all people and all religions. We do not need to get rid of hard working law abiding Muslim people we need to deport Nazi scum like you.

And by the way we Socialists are going to make sure we get civilized Socialized medicine and far sooner than you think. So enjoy going bankrupt when you get ill while you still can.

        • Yes saddy the demtards, in particular under Obumer, infested the US Gov;t with Mooooslem sleepers.

Decide if your rants are from the perspective of eurowussie or an American Fudd. Just pick one consistent theme or another and stop switching your residence to and fro. Clubsoros likely will pay you better.

        • Speaking of dysfunctional, I hear, while people and businesses are moving out, the uber-socialist paradise of California is already enjoying going bankrupt!

          DrDKW

        • sigh… reading comprehension… oh sorry, I’ll wait until you’ve graduated second grade.

Muslim Theocracy… not Muslims… I have nothing against the people of Islam, or Muslims or any other faith as long as they leave me alone to practice what I want without harming them. What I am saying, since you can’t comprehend simple English, is enjoy living in a country that is moving toward a Muslim Theocracy, as in ruled by their religion to the detriment of the freedoms of people around them.

I should have understood, from your name, that you are only a kid.

        • to neowawa (wipe the slobber from your lips it shows)

Your the poster boy for the need of a National Socialized Mental Health Care Plan. I would send the men in the greed white coats to your hovel so you could have the honor of being the first one put in a straight jacket while you howl at the moon, oops I mean the nearest computer. Tell me when did you substitute the Cookie Monster for your latest bogey man Soros.

I had a good laugh when people like you proved their utmost depravity when Obama honored gifted Muslim Students and their scholastic achievements at a ceremony at the White House. It really drove the unwashed out of their minds when they realized that Muslim students were getting degrees and integrating right into the economy and our society as it went everything they had been brainwashed into believing by their depraved Hitlerite leaders like David Duke and Rush Limbhead who rants against Nazi’s but acts just like them with his hate filled radio program right out of the pages of Hitlers Mein Kamph.

        • No no no Megan “the kid” Kelly. Socialized medicine as espoused by the Nazi’s is along ways away. DUNBAMA care is slowly but surely being eradicated as are your socialist commie Muslim buddies. The British redcoats found out the hard way when they had their _____ pushed up their “arse”. Btw you need to turn in your guns. You’re mentally inept.

        • Actually Cisco Kid, the mistake that people make is trying to match your particular Alinsky brand of attacking the person rather than their message. You really do the adhominems, insults, denigration and contempt with a certain level of artistry. It is rather impressive. But all you have are the insults.

like i said in another post, I don’t need to attack you with insults, I just need to state the facts and the miserable failure, massive blood and tyranny that has been the results for communism, and it’s offspring-socialism/marxism and progressivism; the latest example being Venezuela.

Socialism really is simply the extension of childhood into the adult world. In that world of the child, like magic, all of ones needs are provided for by their parents/state. The socialist is simply a person afraid to take on the responsibilities of a mature, free adult.

    • Again, nothing but lies. Not a grain of truth, comrade cisco.

    • @ThomasR
      can’t agree more
it is a sad individual who does not have the ability to hold a healthy debate or conversation, but feels the need to attack individuals as opposed to their arguments

      @Cisco Kid
attacking people on a personal level is the quickest way to lose relevance
Why cant you argue on principle?

      • Well, in order to lose relevance, one would first need to have had a degree of relevance at some point. We don’t need to worry about Crisco here ever reaching that stage!

  25. An Army reservist for 7 years (sounds like just enough time for my tax dollars to pay off a BA) and you can’t comment on his article.

    What an an asshole.

    • I know replying to myself is bad form but – This tool doesn’t seem to exist on LinkedIn or FB.

Totally made up bullshit by NBC.

  26. This boot must have spent every second of his time overseas in the PX on Al Asad sipping a smoothie, because I seem to remember posts stuffed with ammunition and ECPs guarded with crew-served weapons. We sure had more than a freaking sign advising bad guys not to bring their weapons on base. Also, we still had ammunition. Weapons were kept in condition 4 with a loaded magazine ready for insertion. Lying POG crapping on his oath for a skritch behind the ears from his liberal friends. I’ll keep my stuff, thanks.

  27. Then just why is it that I help two buddys that are former Air Force and one navy veteran with their various firearms, they should know them rite side up and down, cause I’m just some dummy according to the article.

  28. For a former “intelligence officer,” Diamond shows surprisingly little intelligence. But buried deep within his screed, there’s this little gem:

“Once we arrived in an operational war zone, one of the first things the U.S. Army did was take our ammunition away.”

Of course, Captain Numbnuts. They took your ammo away because they didn’t trust you. And neither do I.

Thank you for your service. Now GFY.

  29. If your not an operator operating operationally or a secret agent man you shouldn’t have a weapon, you dissfuktional fucks.

  30. There isn’t much to learning how a simple mechanical object works… put it on your desk, take it apart, put it back together according this little thing called an instruction manual.

Well… oops… we not longer require our kids to learn how to read so they can’t read the manual… /sarc

  31. I’m sorry…I too am a vet and this is nothing but a joke.

First….the average person in the military doesn’t get much training with firearms. At least for me…the total time I actually spent hands on firing my weapon(not sitting listening to a lecture….or reading a manual…or learning to disassemble/clean….or waiting around the range for other people to shoot) was HOURS. yes just HOURS actually shooting your weapon. After this basic qualifiation in boot camp I never touched another weapon in my entire service time.

Second…..are all these school shootings, mass murders, gangland murders caused by people who are not TRAINED?????? The whole premise of this article is that if people were trained properly like in the military these things wouln’t happen…that’s completely moronic.

Finally….guns aren’t that hard to use. Honestly…a few hours and you pretty much can learn all you need to know about safe handling and shooting. The real time you “train” is mostly about getting more accurate, etc.

  32. There is something to what he says but as always, the anti gun people are confused. Being familiar with a firearm is necessary to prevent accidental shootings. This has NOTHING TO DO with the current problem of shootings in gun free zones (mainly schools of late). The “mass shooters” seem to have no problem handling their weapons even though almost none of them have any military training. (The guy in Texas, shooting up a church, killed by a former NRA instructor being an exception). For a soldier, unfamiliarity with his weapon could mean death. I as a civilian am unlikely to be in the same situation.
“The dysfunctional gun culture” has not been a problem until the past few years (I guess, only a problem because we are not military grade according to this writer), it is nutjobs who are dysfunctional period.

  33. People have enormously varied experience and opinion.

Years back, apologies, I forget where, there was an article written by an infantry Sargent praising the gun culture for teaching more than the Corps. IIRC the Sarge had received orders that all the captured weapons his unit found were to be made safe by disassembly. The problem was that no one in his entire company had and training on the AK (which was mostly what they were finding in Iraq) and therefore had no idea how to do this.

Fortunately a Lance Corporal was a good ol’ boy from the South who had experience with AK variants in civilian life before joining the Corps. He taught everyone how to take the reciever cover off the captured rifles and disassemble them.

It was the opinion of the Sargent that the gun culture bailed his ass out along with the ass of his entire company.

  34. The Diamond theory:

“Government control of military is good.
Therefore government control of civilians is….”

By the way, did this “soldier” take some oath about the Constitition? Or is all of that terribly passé these days?

  35. The 2A is the standard. All those rules you’re referring to are what the government applied you as an employee.

That being said I take training very serious and seek it out, and I share my knowledge with new shooters when it is welcomed. And my gun culture is doing just fine.

  36. I despise guys like this who claim to speak for all veterans. Mr. Diamond is an elitist jerk. I say this as a retired 25 year veteran. He reminds me of the one of the dangers of military service – that is – the idea that you are somehow better than the rest of the population and therefore have the right to enforce you views on everyone else. This attitude goes back to the Newburgh Conspiracy at the close of the Revolutionary War where a clique of officers wanted to stage a coup to overthrow Congress, or even the Society of the Cincinnati which was supposed to be a hereditary organization of officers of the Revolution. Diamond’s attitude is one of the reasons the Founders were justifiably wary of a professional standing army.

  37. At 17 I can join the military and go overseas to kill other humans for our government. Then, coming home, I can’t use a gun to defend my family from violent criminals. How does that make any sense?

    • It’s simple. When you do what the Resistance wants you to do, it’s justified. When you do what the Resistance doesn’t want you to do, it’s murder.

  38. We don’t restrict citizens’ access to arms on a whim any more than we censor people for being uninformed and incoherent in their opinions.

You need to do more harm than that to get stifled — Be as dumb as you want; until you *literally* yell “Fire” in a crowded movie theater (where there is no actual fire), we’ll let your babble on.

    /Civics for the Civics-Challengesd:
Someone who wants you to carry and use arms on their behalf can require any standard they want.

In a republic, the people are sovereign — it isn’t the military’s business to be asserting policy.(*) Indeed, the people are sovereign *because* military asserting policy for the people tends to be a bad plan. That plenty in our military think way too often like occupiers, not liberators, in our own company, means they are confused about their job, and their role.

In a (classical) liberal society, individual people making their own call about what they want to do is the good we have government to secure. The standard for invoking government to restrict what other people want to do is pretty high. For example, we don’t prohibit political speech on important issues like gun control even though the speaker is ill-informed, ignorant of history, oblivious to US law n civics, narrow experience, reactive, and logically incoherent.(**)

US gun culture is actually remarkably coherent, measured and functional, despite decades, nay generations of disruption and onslaught by disruptors , their agents in hijacked government and cultural institutions, and their seemingly credentialed useful idiots.

    • (*) Police chiefs and similar forget this one way too often lately.

(**) Any similarity to the notion of restricting gun access for everyone based on the misuse by some is entirely the point.

  39. Most people who buy a gun like this either already know what to do or research what to do. We all encourage training but he seems to be of the thought there shold me mandatory government training. And we all know that really means making it as expensive, time consuming and inconvienent as possible with nigh impossible standards.

Not all of us are going to be clearing houses or need to shoot MOA at 50 yards with a handgun standing.

  40. America’s gun culture is the LEAST dysfunctional, most quintessentially American part of this increasingly broken mess of a society. It’s composed of peaceful people who neither need nor want the government to do their thinking for them and who prefer to provide for themselves. Thank God it’s still (relatively) healthy, because if it dies this country is hosed.

  41. Oh, I bet that was tough learning your ballistics in meters; guess that makes you special (like the rest of the world who use metric). BTW I’ll give you a clue, multiply by nine and move the decimal to the left 1 slot. Do you mean also that those of us who grew up immersed in firearms safety and training are now entitled to own them, or will you find another excuse?

  42. BECAUSE ITS NOT NEEDEED!!!! jesus you people are hard headed. how many stories have we seen on THIS SITE ALONE proving that serious, if any, training is NOT NEEDED to use a gun effectively. EVEN in times of stress.

of course no statement has a 100% blanket accuracy.
