Attending the SHOT Show each year means mixing, mingling and interacting with about 65,000 of our closest gun industry friends and acquaintances. They clog the aisles, restaurants, rest rooms, bars and casinos of the Venetian, Palazzo and the Sands Convention Center for three solid days (the crowd thins considerably on Friday).

And while the gun industry is remarkable for how pleasant the great majority of those who work in it are, by the end of the annual confab, most of us have pretty much had our fill of dealing with the masses. But also mixed in among the throngs are more than a few canine companions as well as the trained pooches that the extensive security crew have on hand.

We snapped some photos of a few of the many pups that plied the miles of aisles of this year’s now-concluded SHOT Show because they bring a smile to those of us for whom some of the best people we know are dogs.

  1. No “Cats of the S.H.O.T. Show”?

    Companion bigots… 😉

    *Woof*

  2. Dogs are cool, love ’em.

I couldn’t help but notice that it seems like there’s an unspoken dress code for the legs in those pictures though.

      • I was looking at the shoes as well as the 511’s. Mostly duty boots, hiking boots or trail running shoes.

I didn’t even know Salomon made the SpeedCross 4s in all black. Great shoe but I prefer a more ostentatious color scheme. Not quite as good as the Arc’Teryx Norvan VT or GTX which will both last about 800 miles on pavement vs about 450 for the SpeedCross but still a nice shoe. The pair I have now is my second pair.

        • Walking.

          *sigh*

Maybe in a month I can start to think about walking again…

          *mutter*…

    • Between feeling the urge to give ’em some scratching behind them doggie ears and the yearning to give ’em some tummy rubbies, it ain’t easy being a dog lover surrounded by “Service Dog Do Not Pet” signs.

      Why, it’s practically torture.

  3. I like dogs, I’m shooting a ball for mine right now. Isn’t SHOT show about over? Doesn’t seem like a whole lot happened there gunwise according to this here site. Elsewhere I read that CZ released a whole pile of new guns. I know they did the Monday thing for a few weeks, but there were more than 4. And what else? Coverage seems sparse this year. Please tell me JWT is getting ready to put out a pile of awesome range reviews.

  4. Screw gun bunnies! Gun doggies is where the money’s at! This is the kinda journalism I pay for! (Don’t get any silly ideas, TTAG.)

    • “Screw gun bunnies!”

The adult video convention was down the strip…

  5. Don’t do SHOT anymore and don’t remember K-9s when I did, but cool. Like a mutt. It’s 0500 and I’m up. Daylight 30 in a couple of hours. Casey’s dog, Greyton, wants a snack. Give him one before I stumble to a stand. Any kind of luck I won’t see a big one. Don’t need the taxidermy bill. Like a dog though.

  6. I see we have those choker chain collars on the dogs. Says a lot about the owners. The shelter had one of those stupid things on the Malamute I adopted. First thing I did was get it off him. I could tell he appreciated that. Actually, he behaved best while walking in a harness and not even having a collar on. Sort of like my other big dogs.

    • Choke chains are an important training tool.
Notice i said tool, they can be used in tandem with e collars, clickers, commands, hand signals and the plethora of other tools.
They are a poor substitute for bad behavior and without knowing the level of a dogs training, your in no place to comment.

  7. The dog was awesome, my son.
Jumping out of my jeep at the end of the driveway and stuff.
Bringing back evidence from a break in…
But a couple things about the cat…
    He was very handsey.
He would only eat with his hands, scooping food out of the bowl.
Open the fridge to get to fish.
Steal toys from the neighbors pool.
Make auto calls on the bedroom phone.
But he only liked belliy rubs from my feet.
