After a hell of a long fight, concealed carry was finally legalized in the Land o’ Lincoln back in 2013. It’s not quite as easy to get a permission slip in Illinois as it is in other states — the powers that be made darn sure of that — but despite their best efforts to make it difficult and time-consuming, the state has close to 300,000 CCL holders now.
And you know what that means? More people who are legally able to bear arms to defend themselves, their families, and sometimes even the police from those who would do them harm.
The latest example comes from Chicago’s northwest side. As the Sun-Times reports, a 17-year-old tried to draw down (yes, that’s illegal) on a man in the city’s Cragin neighborhood on Wednesday
At 8:30 a.m., the 17-year-old boy and 42-year-old man were arguing in the 4900 block of West Fullerton, according to Chicago police. The boy got out of his vehicle and made threats at the man while trying to yank a handgun from the waistband of his pants, witnesses told police.
The 42-year-old, who has a concealed carry gun license, grabbed his handgun and shot the 17-year-old, according to police.
Just another crime prevented by a law-abiding citizen with a firearm. Something that happens at least 1.1 million times a year in this country.
The boy was charged with a felony count of unauthorized use of a weapon and a misdemeanor count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.
And the 42-year-old got to have Thanksgiving dinner with his family. Nothing to see here. Move along.

CC is being normalized in ILLinois. It’s really not that onerous either as the price has dramatically fallen(I saw $99 for 2 on FB). + fingerprint’s and fees. What’s going to happen when Prickster the hutt is immaculated is anyone’s guess. Nothing good!

Unfortunately, yes, and will be dead next time. And that will make the news by the anti-gun newspaper blaming the victim for his death.
Sometimes getting your a$$ shot changes your attitude.
When the voice inside that 17 year old’s head called his name and said “Come on down! YOU’RE the next contestant on ‘How to Throw Your Life Away!'”, that kid should’ve just shut up, not drawn, and walked away.
Then again, screw it. That kid’s life was over and done with before the acrosome hit the ovum. The only positive is the relatively minimal amount of damage he inflicted on society along the way.
The sad part is that 17 year old will probably only serve about two years before he’s released.
In regards to obtaining a ccl in Illinois; difficult, time consuming and……expensive. roughly $700 when all is said and done.
Are you including the gat, ammo and holster? Mine was less than half that amount.
The 16 hours of “school” requirement means two days lost. To me two days are worth at least $500. (YMMV)
That’s before price of the course, fees, prints etc. $700 doesn’t seem too far off.

You know Illinois has an FOID system to own a firearm, right? You also don’t register any firearms when you apply for a CCW permit.

If you have to use your weapon when it is safe to do so unload your weapon and put it down to continue to brandish your weapon WILL get you shot by the police
