Yesterday, CNN was all over the story of three teenagers in Oklahoma who shot and killed a baseball player who was walking down the street just to watch him die. It’s a horrific story, and these teens definitely deserve to fry, but as with every other gun-related story the mainstream media picks up on, it’s being used to demonize the NRA and further the gun control agenda. But consider the following: these teens were too young to legally purchase firearms in the first place. So, in fact, the proposed gun control bill that Democrats still have their panties in a knot about wouldn’t have stopped it. And yet . . .

From an Australian official:

Tourists thinking of going to the USA should think twice. This is the bitter harvest and legacy of the policies of the NRA that even blocked background checks for people buying guns at gunshows. People should take this into account before going to the United States. I am deeply angry about this because of the callous attitude of the three teenagers (but) it’s a sign of the proliferation of guns on the ground in the USA. There is a gun for almost every American.

Under current law, these teenagers were barred from possessing firearms of any kind. The oldest was 17, still a year shy of being able to buy a gun. And under Oklahoma law, they were barred for having the guns outside of “sporting” uses like hunting.

So simply possessing the guns was illegal. Not to mention the fact that murder is in and of itself very much a crime. And yet the solution to the issue of “gun violence” for members of the Gun Control Industrial Complex is… wait for it… more laws. Still. Again. Not more law enforcement. Not more education. Not community outreach, but more pieces of paper, laws that will only impact the law abiding while having no effect on the criminals that the laws are ostensibly trying to stop.

If you listen to the video, the chief of police (Danny Ford) makes it very clear where these teenagers got their guns. “They steal them.” The shotgun that was found in the car had the serial number ground off. The guns were obtained illegally. No background check system in the world would have kept those guns out of their hands. And yet . . .

    • Leghorn just doesn’t get it; it’s the next piece of legislation that’s going to be the effective one! It’s the one that finally criminals will choose to follow! Just because somebody is intent on murder — arguably the most serious crime possible — does not mean they won’t follow some significantly less serious law on their way there, stopping the whole plan at that point and thereby saving a life.

      • Indeed, read _Freakonomics_ for their take on why crime went down in the ’90s. Protip: abort the sorts of people most likely to commit crime, and 14 or so years later, crime will go down.

        • And how do we put a pre crime abortion program into operation? Create whole new legions of government agencies? Empower the NSA to gather more intel on Americans so we can make sure there’s no unreported pregnancies? What if people object to government mandated abortions? Tighter laws on guns so citizens can’t fight back?

        • @jwm
It’s much simpler than that. Get rid of all the welfare programs which are nothing more than a big incentive for people to have multiple kids out of wedlock. Done and done.

        • “And how do we put a pre crime abortion program into operation?”

Simple. Quit paying unmarried teenage sluts to make bastards.

        • I’m all for getting rid of welfare programs, Mr. P. At least the multigenrational programs that let families live for ever on welfare. Welfare should be short term with a work or school requirement while on it.

Let’s just keep the government out of abortions. I don’t think I’d trust their judgement to set limits on themselves.

        • Not to worry; 37% of abortions are done on a certain demographic composing 7% of the population. Just think how much worse things could be without this little modern experiment in genocide.

        • The scarey part is the number of people thru out history that believed genocide was a viable option. That belief continues to this day. Horrifying.

  1. Hmm, maybe they’ll just ass the question ‘Do you intend to kill anyone?” to the paperwork – that’ll fix it. Oh wait, kids can’t purchase firearms and criminals don’t buy guns at gun stores. Why are we trying to fix this legislatively again?

  2. Indeed, the parents should be arrested:

“1273. Allowing minors to possess firearms
    A. It shall be unlawful for any person within this state to sell or give to any child any of the arms or weapons designated in Section 1272 of this title; provided, the provisions of this section shall not prohibit a parent from giving his or her child a rifle or shotgun for participation in hunting animals or fowl, hunter safety classes, target shooting, skeet, trap or other recognized sporting events, except as provided in subsection B of this section.
    B. It shall be unlawful for any parent or guardian to intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly permit his or her child to possess any of the arms or weapons designated in Section 1272 of this title, including any rifle or shotgun, if such parent is aware of a substantial risk that the child will use the weapon to commit a criminal offense or if the child has either been adjudicated a delinquent or has been convicted as an adult for any criminal offense.”

“1276. Penalty for 1272 and 1273 Any person violating the provisions of Section 1272 or 1273 shall, upon a first conviction, be adjudged guilty of a misdemeanor and the party offending shall be punished by a fine of not less than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) nor more than Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00), or by imprisonment in the county jail for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days or both such fine and imprisonment. On the second and every subsequent violation, the party offending shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine of not less than Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00)
nor more than Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), or by imprisonment in the county jail for a period
not less than thirty (30) days nor more than three (3) months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.”

  3. I don’t think theyre arguing about passing more laws at this point. Anyone with an IQ above 75 that thinks for 30 seconds realizes that laws wouldn’t stop these kids. Theyre arguing for an Aussie style ban & confiscate at this point. Anyone who claims otherwise is a fool or a liar, most likely both.

    • Exactly! If you confiscate ALL of the guns there wouldn’t be any for these kids to steal. Duh! Problem solved.

I mean, what are the chances that three reasonably healthy young men could just jump out of the car and beat someone to death with their hands or a bat? Get real.

  4. These retards that blame the NRA show they have a functional IQ of somewhere around idiot, imbecile, or moron. They fail to grasp that law abiding people don’t condone shooting people in the back for jollies and in fact, just the opposite.

  5. Only a “Progressive” would demand that law abiding citizens give up their means of defending themselves against thugs because thugs break laws. The problem isn’t guns. It is Progressive social policies that create the social dysfunction that produces a culture that celebrates gang bangers and denigrates people who want to work hard and get ahead. The best predictor of violence is the number of people on welfare, the number of males born to single mothers and the number of years that the Democrats have ruled a city.

Detroit — The final stage of Progressivism.

    • Detroit — The final stage of Progressivism.

Nope…it gets much worse. Late ’70s Cambodia is probably the closest the world has seen to the progressive ideal.

      • Cambodia is to progressives as Somolia is to libertarians–neither progressives nor libertarians had anything to do with these failed states.

        • Karl, The seeds in what you’re smoking will pop out and burn holes in your clothes. Be careful.

  6. It is a vicious cycle. Crime, misidentification of cause, error in corrective action, repeat but worse.

There was a link to the following article at the bottom of the earlier article that was about boredom as a cause of murder and it listed 3 examples of such murders, 2 were stabbings, and the other a suffocation. To seriously pander this as a gun control issue is tragic and misses the root cause entirely.

    http://www.nbcnews.com/health/boredom-blamed-murders-true-killing-impulse-6C10963043

  7. 1 year till the trials. Everyone boo hoo’s for the “terrible” life of these “poor, misguided children”. Then the blame will fall on “evil influence” of movies and video games. Next up it is the fault of the gun manufacturer.

$3 million in cost to taxpayers to prosecute. Little darlings were minors. So maybe, life in prison. With current terms being served for murders in U.S. and Oklahoma? Little darlings will be out on the street before they reach 30.

    • These little darlings are being charged as adults. I don’t think they’ll be seeing anything other than a prison cell for a very, very long time.

      • You think? Sure, they will be charged as adults. Big whoop dee doo. Facts are that the penal system in the U.S. is a joke. Look up the stats. Each and every states parole boards find every excuse to kick convicted criminals loose as fast as possible.

Only a small percentage of violent criminals spend any meaningful time in prison.

        • The two who are being charged with murder have already been charged as adults. As for the rest of what you said, I don’t disagree with much, but it does vary wildly by state. In Illinois, we treat our violent criminals the same way that I fish, catch and release. Other states, like Texas, will throw the book at violent criminals. Don’t know much about Okie, but I assume they’re probably closer to Texas’s approach.

        • That’s because they have to make room for all the non-violent drug offenders with mandatory minimum sentences.

  8. australia is terrified of guns. There was a massive uproar during the london olympics because 2 swim team members put up a photo of them at a gun store in cali posing with guns and the entire country flipped shit.

    • And that’s coming from a country that was founded as a British penal colony for hardened criminals like murders and such. Sad…

    • Actually there wasn’t an uproar. It was just a media beat up. If you’re read the comments to that story, most people said they didn’t do anything wrong.

  9. You’re missing the End Game: They want ALL firearms confiscated. Pointing out that “it’s illegal for teens to possess a gun” fuels their argument (in their mind). Sad but true.

    • This is sad but true. When every law they’ve ever wanted has been passed and we still have gun crime, the only “common sense” thing to do then will be total confiscation. Only then can we enjoy the utopian safety of Britain’s 35 gun murders per year here in the US. (just make sure you don’t go out on the street without a knife proof jacket)

      • If the government confiscated all the guns the they it would have no immediate impact on the murder rate since the demographic responsible for most of the murder and mayhem won’t be giving them up. Not only that, Transnational Criminal Organizations like MS-13, Eastern European Organized crime and the current suppliers of drugs will be all too happy to supply the illegal market and they won’t be supply semiautomatic weapons either. These TCOs can supply small wars so I don’t think criminals will have any problems finding adequate firepower. Instead of the US becoming a gun free utopia with unicorns and rainbows many parts of the country, i.e., Progressive havens like Chicago, San Francisco, NTC et al, will look more like Mexico.

        • Instead of the US becoming a gun free utopia with unicorns and rainbows many parts of the country, i.e., Progressive havens like Chicago, San Francisco, NTC et al, will look more like Mexico.

Is that a bad thing? Perhaps that would be a way of weeding out the weak parasites from society once and for all. (I.E. liberals/progressives/statist, all the same).

        • Where do you think the refugees will go? Progressives are incapable of making a connection between their policies and the disasters that follow.

        • The refugees should go to that Liberal paradise, the EU, to live off the social welfare. No, wait…

  10. “Tourists thinking of going to the USA should think twice.”

Yup – better to stay in Australia, because there is no violent crime there. Riiiiiiight.

  11. All the Libs are just upset that someone actually stopped the little pr!ck in Atlanta from doing anything, so their anti-gun agenda had to be moved to this story.

  12. What?!?! They BROKE a law?!!? Why would they do such a horrible thing?!?!? Don’t those youths know how much paperwork this will cause the local police departments? Police officers can suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome just like anyone else!

Didn’t their parents take them to any of the “Police Academy” movies to instill in them a respect for the laws of this society we live in?!!?

    /Sarcasm off

Yeah, preachin’ to the choir, I know.

  13. Since the evolutionary dawn of homo sapiens the natural activity of young men, from puberty through early adulthood, has been to struggle to compete with and become respected by their peers, belong to their age cohort, the next rising group of hunters and warriors in their band or tribe. Community life in settled societies has required that this competition and joining be guided into beneficial (or at least harmless) activities, generally supervised by adults. Whether joining their cohort based on academics, a sport, music, a craft, or a mix, that is how teenagers become stable adults at peace with the world.

Parents have a duty to insure that their teenagers have structured activities in which to channel their growing powers. But they cannot do much guiding when the US legal culture prohibits them from effectively forbidding their children from contact with gang members, pornography, and music extolling a cult and ethos of urban gang violence. It is false history to assert that our notion of liberty ever encompassed a requirement to permit anything-goes licentiousness. It is false progress to free minor children from parental orders where that results in the raising of teenagers by local gang lords.

  14. It’s been said a million times before but I still just cannot understand why they don’t get it:

CRIMINALS DO NOT OBEY THE LAW

More laws to prevent people from breaking the law in the first place? This is as effective as telling someone, “Don’t do that.” They seem to think that by placing a law in the way seems to make criminals want to think twice, “Oh gee, I don’t want to go to jail so I won’t do that.” Only they don’t care about that. Going to jail, in some circles, is actually a badge of honor. You can’t cut your teeth until you’ve been in the joint. Changing a sentence from one, two, five, ten or twenty years doesn’t phase someone; their primary concern is to do the deed, regardless of consequence. To them the price of their ill deed is just a price they’re willing to pay and think about afterward.

The anti-gunners keep talking about “common sense” and refuse to acknowledge what makes so much sense that it flies in your face. In fact it’s such “common sense” that the following is, by it’s own definition, redundant:

CRIMINALS DO NOT OBEY THE LAW

    Hence why they’re criminals.

    • Well there’s your answer! All we have to do is pass a law (preferably federal) that makes it illegal to break a law. Problem solved.

  15. “Tourists thinking of going to Australia should think twice. This is the bitter harvest and legacy of the policies of the Australian Civilian Disarmament politicians that blocked Australian citizens from owning almost all types of firearms and therefore leaves them as helpless victims to any and all sorts of violent crimes. People should take this into account before going to Australia. I am deeply angry about this because of the callous attitude of the politicians (but) it’s a sign of the proliferation of the socialist liberal nanny state in Oz.”

    There, fixed it for you.

  16. now they wanna turn it into a U.S. PR issue. i think the US government is a joke i can only imagine what other countries think of us even with out “gun violence” as a headline. Hell theres ppl in america that are scared to go into parts of their own city. I’ve ment countrless people that will talk about black or hispanic neighborhoods like its a freefire warzone yet never having actually been there.

    • They’re called “Progressives.” They pester their inferiors to pass idiotic “reforms” to keep brown people and the poor away from them. This usually involves giving out other people’s money or trinkets (Obama phone, anyone?).

  17. We gun lovers don’t like universal background checks. The hoplophobes think UBCs will fix everything. I know a lot of you are against compromise, but I suggest we compromise on this point. Here’s my idea: Pass a law requiring anyone selling a gun illegally to perform a background check on the buyer. That would protect us from the backdoor registration, while preventing bad guys from buying guns.

It would work like the spot on tax returns where thieves, drug dealers, and mafiosos report their illegal income.

  18. On a positive note, Jake Tapper is ‘one of the good ones’, and it’s great to see him on CNN. He repeats the question about the source of the guns after the police chief gave an incomplete answer on the first try, and then he inquires about the makeup of the boys family life… It’s clear Jake knows that the source of the problem is poor parenting & morals, and not a lack of gun laws.

  19. “… under Oklahoma law, they were barred for having the guns outside of “sporting” uses like hunting.”

But isn’t this precisely what they were doing?

I’m sure that if given the chance they’d have skinned and eaten their quarry.

  20. “So simply possessing the guns was illegal. Not to mention the fact that murder is in and of itself very much a crime. And yet the solution to the issue of “gun violence” for members of the Gun Control Industrial Complex is… wait for it… more laws. Still. Again. Not more law enforcement. Not more education. Not community outreach, but more pieces of paper, laws that will only impact the law abiding while having no effect on the criminals that the laws are ostensibly trying to stop.”

Perfectly worded and absolutely true. I couldn’t have worded it better myself. Passing more laws to curb violence makes no sense whatsoever. Not only is it not going to stop violence but it only creates criminals out of the law abiding and makes those law abiding who are not bothering anyone into criminals of victimless crime because they don’t want to give up their 10 round mags (because 7 are the law) or don’t want to give up their heirloom rifle given to them by their grandfather because it has a suppressor on the end or doesn’t have a sporter stock or some garbage like that.

  21. We do not have a ‘gun’ epidemic in this country. We have a children not being raised by parents who grow up in a culture that glorifies anti social behavior, law breaking, and doesn’t try to change epidemic. The urban yout culture produces criminals, criminals get guns it is what they do. Wanna break the cycle, fix the culture that produces these youts, but you can’t, because addressing the problem head on is racist.

    • And what about racism on this one? The victim was white. I think the three perps were black… er.. uh African American. Has Al Sharpton had anything to say about this? I will probably hold my judgment until he tells me how I should think about it.

        • One of them looked pretty much like a creepy ass cracker to me but the news said they were all black. Of course the news/journalists never get it wrong.
Actually, I’m not sure. I’ll try to stop being sarcastic now.
          Really.

  22. This story has received a lot of coverage here in Oz since well the poor victim was Australian Baseball player on a scholarship in US. That “official” quoted in the article is actually former deputy Prime Minister who back in ’96 backed Howard with his draconian gun laws. No idea what he’s doing now but he hasn’t had any official post for a few years now.

The Australian Greens (aka watermelons since they red inside and green on the outside) actually have used this incident to push for a semi-auto handgun ban & buyback here. Even that the handgun regulations are very stringent and there’s bugger all issues due to legally owned handguns. Luckily, most Australians are seeing them for that they really are and hopefully they’ll get wiped out at the next federal election here in a few weeks.

But even that its hard to legally own a handgun here, criminals don’t seem to have issues getting their hands on them. There’s lot more shootings in western Sydney now than before (most involving Middle Eastern gangs) and Police don’t seem to make any headway (mainly because many surviving victims don’t quite co-operate since they’re aren’t exactly squeaky clean).

There was a few illegal gun busts over the last few months/years. In one case they caught 200 Glocks being illegally imported, in another a few AR-15s. And there were at least 2 cases where they busted guys making home-made submachine guns:

    http://www.sportingshootermag.com.au/news/machinegun-maker-busted-in-south-australia

Another one was making Mac-10 clones.

  23. Rev. Jesse Jackson said in a tweet Wednesday that he was “praying for the family of Chris Lane. This senseless violence is frowned upon and the justice system must prevail.” Anyone else outraged by the words frowned upon ?

      • Yeah, no racism there. Half-hispanic white Zimmerman kills a black thug in self-defense, he’s a “racist” and a “mass murderer,” but when two black thugs beat a handicapped 88-year-old veteran to death, or a gang of three thugs, two of which are black, gun down an Australian student in cold blood, it’s “frowned upon.”

I wasn’t raised racist, but people who pull antics like that are doing their darned best to change my mind about that.

  24. It appears the youngest of the three tweeted “90% of white people are nasty #hatethem”. What’re the odds this’ll be tried as a hate crime?
