As we reported, Cosmopolitan magazine went all-in for gun control. By pimping the dosomething.org video above, Teen Vogue has joined the Manhattan magazine march on gun rights. Perhaps the only interesting bit: at 1:17 young lady holds a Chiappa Rhino like it has feline leukemia — which I think is a bit unfair (fix the trigger reach issue already, will ya?). Their argument against campus carry: you can take a life with a gun! Yes, and you can save a life with a gun. I wonder why that’s so hard to understand. Also of note, the mainstream companies behind dosomething.org . . .

Main sponsors include Toyota, jetBlue, Coca Cola, Sprint, 3M, Aeropostale, Yahoo!, ESPN, ABC and CVS.

They draw board members from jetBlue (their “official airline”), LinkedIn, AOL, NewsCorp (owners of the New York Post) and JPMorgan Chase.

Their corporate committee includes reps from ESPN, Johnson & Johnson, HSBC, AARP, Coach, Citibank and Discover Financial Services.

Their marketing committee includes execs from MTV, iHeart Media, AOL, ABC, Six Flags, Spotify and Seventeen. An AT&T rep sits on their mobile committee.

  1. “Your hard-earned spending money hard at work, working to degrade Americans’ natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.”

I get the funny feeling that my tax dollars are doing the same thing…

      • Not true.
The NSA is hard at work violating the fourth amendment.
The CIA is working on the fifth and eighth.
The DOD with its military tribunals is taking out the sixth, and helping the CIA with theirs.
Congress and the Supreme Court are destroying the first, ninth, and tenth.

The third and seventh are fine though. So no worries.

  2. “Their argument against campus carry: you can take a life with a gun! Yes, and you can save a life with a gun. I wonder why that’s so hard to understand.”

Simple. They understand the concept very well. These people who believe they know what is best for us want to erase the concept of defending one’s self. If the idea of owning a gun is so abhorrent, there will be less resistance in the future. Creating their utopia is a very long game plan.

  3. It should be pointed out that NewsCorp is Rupert Murdoch’s print division, and also owns the Wall Street Journal.

  4. I’m guessing the average reader of Teen Vogue would rank Kim Kardashian ahead of constitutional rights in terms of “what’s most important to you”.

  5. I am the father of three daughters. If I have done my job in raising them correctly, they will be far too smart to fall for a campaign like this.

Also, they would have immediately cleared and made safe the handgun when handed to them.

    • I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who cringed when I saw them hand guns to people without checking the chamber.

      • To be fair, they did show pretty good trigger discipline. Even in their attempts to suppress our natural, inalienable rights, they are slowly learning about proper firearm handling.

    • That would have indicated they actually knew something about guns and would have betrayed the “guns are icky” message they’re trying to promote. They couldn’t give a ratzass about actual gun safety.

  6. I don’t get the logic. As if banning a constitutional right on a STATE campus would somehow prevent psychotic killers from carrying a folded keltec sub2k or hell, just a couple hand guns in their backpack and unleashing havoc on the unarmed humans there. Are these people moronic? I don’t get it. Are these morons that stupid? That allowing people to carry concealed will make the bad guys think “oh hey, now I can kill people! woo!”

    Higher ed is pathetic.

    • You mean like at Virginia Tech where the killer used two handguns with non high capacity 10 round magazines. It is still the deadliest incident in the US at 32 innocent people killed.

But I get it. They have a religious belief. They have to adhere. It’s comfortable even if it is ignorant bliss. The fact that a sign or policy has no Harry Potter enchantment power to make a gun carried across the magic line vaporize, makes no difference to them.

      • To them it is not about being right, or if it even makes sense. They are better than you because they “care”. They don’t have to know the issue, or understand the problem, heck there does not even have to be a problem. They just declare there is a problem, and say they “care” and that makes them enlightened and higher evolved than the rest of us.

  7. Looking at it objectively, they’ve done a tremendous job with this production. You don’t have to think, it’s OBVIOUS that guns are BAD! I also have to commend them on their trigger discipline, mostly.

It’s basically pandering to busy, uneducated (firearms-wise) people. They don’t have time to delve deeper into the real world issues that face us today.

I hope the NRA, Second Amendment Foundation or other gun rights group watch, critique and come up with a counter production that is as effective.

  8. Dosomethingmyass.org Typical BS libtard “not for profit” Ponzi scheme. Unemployable useless progs file conspire with Lois Lerner/IRS for 501C_, shake down business for millions in cash, extract millions in cash from silly foundations and guillible donors. Pay big salaries to a bevy of “employees” for doing nothing = “not for profit”. Then bitch about evil business. See also Hillary/Bill. Strange that all of them seem to be HQ in NYC.

  9. The only useful purpose of THEIR guns during a campus shooting is to get their hands as high in the air as possible and hope like hell that the crazed maniac wielding the gun decides to shoot someone else.

    • I agree with your sentiment, but it can be incredibly difficult to boycott a company when so many of them have their hands in the cookie jars of other companies. Unless they are doing one thing and one thing only, it’s tough to pull off a successful boycott. But it’s worth trying, at any rate.

      • Six Flags is a scabby, company, back in 1984 they built an unsafe attraction that burned down killing several kids.

  10. I’ve been looking for a reason to go to the trouble of figuring out how to delete that stupid LinkedIn account.

  11. Stopped it at 21 seconds in; I’ve seen this before. Remember those idiot MDA ads about certain books being banned at libraries but AR-15s allowed in? Or the idiotic reprise they did with what you can carry into a Kroger ( A gun!!!!!) and what you can’t (A skateboard!!! A dog!!! blah, blah, blah…) Same stupid crap, hopefully same chance of [non] success. On the other hand, being aimed at the industrial-grade idiocy of the college campus environment, maybe their chances are better.

    • Except that this is even more inane; pretty much every thing they claim you can’t posess on campus you can, just not in dorm rooms; you know, the same places that Universities with campus carry also exempt from campus carry; you can’t have a puppy in a dorm room and you can’t have a gun in a dorm room… but you can have both in the quad.

  12. The lunatic fringe of the anti-gun movement will keep ratcheting things up until the election, because gun confiscation is Hillary’s signature issue.

If she loses, the pressure on us will ease, or even fade away.

If she wins, civil rights in America will be destroyed.

  13. Apparently an object, or objects, being banned by as few as one college/university is enough to make a note of it.

What’s really worth noting is these institutions are likely making the decision to ban the objects in this video; I doubt they’re restricted by state law. But hey, you don’t like it? Then do what we did in Texas: lobby to your state’s legislature to preempt them, so you can have your panini press on campus.

See how that works? It’s amazing. We lobbied and our elected representatives in the Texas legislature listened and passed a bill allowing us to have something on campus we were previously restricted from having by law.

And yes, guns can kill, they can also save lives. Your panini press can burn down a building and kill, too, the video practically said that itself. Or it can be a useful tool in making delicious sandwiches. Just be responsible, as you should be with anything, potentially dangerous or not.

Or we can just go ahead and ban any object that can possibly cause any sort of harm or discomfort to anyone. Your call.

    • Again, like those “Moms” ads–if one school or one library banned “Grimm’s Fairy Tales” at some point because they aren’t politically correct, then “Snow White is banned in American schools, semi-auto rifles are not!!” If the grabber’s didn’t have distortions of monumental proportions–well, they would only have the outright lies left…

  14. We must be doing something right if they are so concerned about rising numbers of young girls in the shooting sports that they think they have to make a video to show teen girls that guns are bad.

  15. LOL, when I was in the dorm I think we had most of those things. Microwaves were provided.

I remember seeing around the dorm
    Christmas Lights
    Live Plants
    Air Fresheners
    Extension Cords
    Sandwich Presses and Electric Grills

Just about everything except the pets.

  16. I’ll take a few minutes to write and let them know I don’t appreciate this kind of “product marketing”. Or take a page out of the progressives play book, and demand they don’ate an equal sum to the NSSF or NRA for real gun-safety education.

  17. It’s so true how most every one of the products that are supposedly banned aren’t actually banned at 90% of the colleges in the US. Yes, you may have some random colleges banning them, but for the most part, I had every one of these things (with the exception of pets) when I was in college (heck, you’d have thought that microwaves, Christmas lights and air fresheners were required, given there were so many of them). And if you want to get technical, pets weren’t banned from campus (off campus commuters brought them on campus all the time when attending intramural events or when folks were just hanging out). And pets weren’t even banned from the dorms, as long as they weren’t living there. I knew folks who regularly walked their dogs into the dorms when visiting on campus students all the time. But, of course, truth means nothing to these people when their agenda is being threatened.

  18. Boycotts are all well and good, but, as stated above in another comment, they can be very hard when the companies have their hands in multiple places or other organizations. IMO, boycotts such as this are damn near impossible, except for boycotting the magazine itself, which shouldn’t be much of a problem for TTAG readers.

    My strategy?

Even though I may buy a Coke for lunch, I’ll go buy a pistol after work.

    How bout them apples, antis?

  19. I just ditched my LinkedIn account.

They ask for a reason on deletion. I clicked the radio button marked “Other” and pasted the following into their text box:

“I do not support ANY company that engages in anti-second amendment propaganda.”

Then I helpfully pasted a link to this blog article.

  20. I got an email of this last night from dosomething.org
It really pisses me off that they lie with statistics, so they can try to keep us defenseless. These are the same idiots that need safe zones because free speech might offend them. These people don’t understand the importance of self reliance and the necessity of self defense. They just want to FEEL safe they don’t want to BE safe. That would take responsibility.

  21. TIL: that colleges are so scared of any type of accident (and probably potential law suits), that they’ve banned a ridiculous amount of items.

    • NewsCorp means 21st Century Fox, ABC means Disney, AOL means Time Warner. I’m not seeing anything related to Sony offhand, so I guess you can still go to their movies. MTV means Viacom, so there goes a huge chunk of cable channels not already covered by ABC/Disney or Fox. Hearst owns Seventeen, and shares ESPN and A&E with Disney.

3M has their hands in just about everything. Chances are you’ve used dozens of products either directly or indirectly manufactured by them today. I just cooked in a nonstick pan, and DuPont relies on chemicals from 3M for Teflon, for instance.

Coca Cola’s sub-brands are also rather extensive and hard to avoid. Skipping ESPN is the least of your worries if you’re trying to boycott that list.

      • With Coke you can switch to store brand, private label soda or independent soda companies. If you do any auto body work, 3M, is one of the lower quality brands which is why it’s sold at Walmart and Autozones. Teflon is a pretty common plastic made by plenty of other companies besides DuPont.

    • This is our problem right here. People care way to much about so called professional sports (that are fixed anyway). All I hear is Tom Brady This, Red Sox that, and Yankess suck. Be honest, does anyone really think the worst player in any major league sport gives a shit about you or anyone else in your family. I thought not, yet you spend all your time watching ESPN and every other sport. Go ahead, it’s America, that’s your right. Why would ESPN surprise anyone though, they want every able bodied male in the U.S. to be glued to your couch, not paying attention to anything else, and watch football all day long, get fat, drink beer, then baseball when that crock of shit heats up.

  22. For what is worth, I just sent the below to the Board of Directors of the AARP.

First let me state that I was about ready to send you the check for establishing my membership but now want you to immediately remove me from your mailing list.
    Name / Address blocked out

Not that you will care but my decision is based upon just reading an article that you have joined forces with organizations that wish to infringe upon individuals gun rights which are protected under the Constitution of this country.

I am retired Military, have served as a part-time police officer and I will tell you that most senior citizens will not agree with your current direction concerning the 2nd amendment.

I belong to many senior organizations and sit on several membership boards through out the United States of which many members elect to have concealed carry permits and daily carry a firearm, which is a right not a privilege.

I assure you that I will voice my concerns and will publicize your current take on this matter everywhere I go and everyone I meet.

Of all classes of population in this country, seniors are more at risk even in well to do neighborhoods. Many choose to carry a firearm as protection for them and their families.

You are wrong to go down this direction but only time and lost memberships will show that to you. I will definitely work towards that goal on behalf of all senior citizens.

  23. You have the power to take someones life away whether you have a gun or not. Apparently someone doesn’t understand that.

  24. #gunsout….right up until there is a shooter in their proximity, than it will be…

“Holy Crap! Get someone with a gun here NOW NOW NOW!!!”

“I wish I had one!!!” (as the lunatic is busting down the dorm door.

  25. Of course they shut down the comment section. Can’t have an opposing point of view on anything unless Teen vogue says it is ok first……. Dosomthing.org unless you don’t share our irrational hoplophobia then don’t do something……

  26. People in general were so much more attractive and fit when I was in college. These actors exude a seriously incompetent “speshul neeedz” vibe as well. I fear for the future…
