Made in ‘Merica: Behind the Scenes At Beretta’s Gallatin, Tennessee Factory

When you’ve been making guns for just short of 500 years — that’s half a millenium, folks — you learn a thing or two about manufacturing. Touring Beretta’s Gallatin, Tennessee factory northeast of Nashville makes that abundantly clear, even if you’re woefully ignorant about all things mechanical. One of the benefits of writing about guns … Read more

Tennessee’s Proposed Red Flag Law Would be the Worst in the Nation

“Red flag” confiscation laws are a legal abomination. By design, they deliberately eliminate due process protections by suspending an individual’s Second Amendment rights without a hearing (at least one where the targeted gun owner is present). Red flag laws, or gun violence restraining orders as they’re sometimes called, also eliminate the need for evidence, since … Read more

Hot weather, hot lead, helicopters, attack dogs, gleeful gun writers and a bevy of badass ballistics. TTAG Tasteless Riddle of the Day: Postal Edition

A: The flags are at half-mast.

Okay, while everyone groans and speculates on how tasteless and tacky that riddle is in the face of the news coming out of Tennessee that two postal workers have been shot, let’s remember that it’s times like this that black humor helps us deal with tragedy. And this has all the markings of another sensationalistic tragedy.

New Mexico Pulls the Plug on Utah Concealed Carry Reciprocity. Here’s Why . . .

After the MORE button: the official press release from the New Mexico Department of Public Safety re: the termination of The Land of Enchantment’s concealed carry reciprocity agreement with Utah. Let me save you some reading-between-the-lines time. Firearms trainers from Utah (and Florida) have fanned out across the country, offering concealed carry courses to non-residents (including states without reciprocity, like New York). At the end of the four-hour-ish instruction, the educators give qualified attendees the magic piece of paper: a Utah concealed carry permit. They’re then good to stow in 17—sorry, 16—states: Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont and Wyoming. What’s wrong with that? As far as I’m concerned, nothing. But Utah’s freelancers are taking food off the table of firearms instructors in New Mexico, who argue that the roving Utah instructors’ standards are below New Mexico’s. Really? TTAG will call New Mexico DPS on Monday to ferret out their exact justification. Much merriment is sure to ensue.
