Do you own a suppressor? Do you want to use it on your semi-automatic handgun? Do you know why your suppressor needs a piston assembly to operate properly and cycle your pistol?

The folks at SilencerCo have made a handy video that shows you very clearly why the silencer on your (non-fixed barrel) semi-auto pistol needs a piston.

Regardez, s’il vous plait.

  1. Cool vid, but I’m in CA where suppressors are prohibited for the unwashed masses, and a one way ticket to the slammer with shiny locking bracelets.

    • The rich movie prop companies are always given special pass treatment in CA laws. Liberals really do “like” guns. When guns make them money.

  2. Ear muffs/plugs vs. silencers. Cans seem to be the rage and I’m sure gunm ranges in close proximity to villages do promote them. Beyond the “neighbors don’t likey bang bang” I myself have no need for a silencer, they cost to much, gov red tape restrictions , and foul up the gunm pretty quick. If they cost thirty bucks and I could walk in walk out Walmart , probably get one..

About 70 dollars cash and out the door with zero wait in New Zealand, Possum.

There’s effort being made to bring that level of freedom here.

You may yet see one in your burrow…

      • And lose your weapons and potentially freedom? No thanks. I’ll pay the tax stamp cost and the inflated price. Working on my 2nd now. I can say the 22 one was well worth the $450 it cost, including stamp.

        • You can only lose your stuff if you can’t keep your mouth shut about what yu have or you go out waving your shit around in public.. No one is coming to your door demanding to know if you have a homemade unregistered suppressor… You do it your way, I’ll do it mine, God Bless the U.S.A.

  3. I have to agree with @tim:
“The full auto of the prototype fixed barrel makes this worth watching!”
In addition, the explanation was just the right combination of physics and good communication to make this an excellent video. THANKS!!!

  4. Thanks for sharing great insights article.Having read this I believed it was extremely enlightening.I appreciate you finding the time and effort to put this short article together.

  5. GREAT INFORMATION

    Leaves me with a question;

Can I run my spring piston on a fixed barrel?

I have several guns with threaded barrels, some fixed and some moving/tilting.

Do i “need” to have a fixed piston (non spring piston) in my guns that the barrel does not move on?

    Thanks,
