Here’s the bulletproof test you’ve all been waited for: can Stretch Armstrong withstand gunfire?

When TAOFLEDERMAUS gets a good idea, he runs with it. And this one was certainly, um, unique.

We’re all familiar with Stretch Armstrong, and if you’ve actually held one in your hand, you know the tightly-packed filling seems like it could stand up to some high powered rounds. Or at least it could be tested to see what it can take

So of course, TAOFLEDERMAUS took things to the range to learn more, and we’re glad he did.

  1. “Is Stretch Armstrong Bulletproof?”

    Who cares?

After learning from the 22plinkster Easter ‘Peeps’ (That sugar-coated sugar *delight*) was bullet-proof after 3 Peeps, I havn’t much cared what else is or isn’t…

  2. Did the shooter say he was a cop? Didn’t the shooter say ” my everyday work horse” ? Didn’t the shooter miss twice with his duty weapon? … That’s a confidence builder all the way around.

    • I realize this is kind of a late reply so sorry about that. To be fair to the shooter, he was shooting off of a table rest. Other articles before have commented how shooting with a pistol off a rest can throw you off if you haven’t prepared for it. He did nail the Stretch Armstrong dead center when he shot off hand, so I’m not too worried about his marksmanship.

  3. I have to admit, I was surprised as to how well that thick, rubbery stuff absorbed a *lot* of the bullet impact energy.

It might be a worthwhile experiment to try using that stuff as a backing to that thin, ultra-light bullet-proof stuff TTAG reviewed a few years back.

A composite using that stuff just may be worthwhile thing…

  4. I don’t know about anyone else, but Taofledermaus annoys me on a couple levels.
    1. California
    2. He needs to bring a police officer along to shoot for him, either because the weapons they’re shooting/the ammo aren’t available to civilians, or the land they’re using is only open to officers, or some other reason.

I’ve nothing against police officers in general, and nothing against Greg in particular, but something about the whole show just rubs me the wrong way.

“Watch us[Law Enforcement] shoot this, so you don’t have to”

I don’t think that’s their intention and it’s entirely a personal thing, but I have that thought every time I find myself watching one of their videos.

    • He has other people shoot for him so he can operate his highspeed cameras
Sometimes he has random people he meets at the range shoot for him, using his personally owned guns.
Greg being a cop is irrelevant.

  5. It is sick that LEOs have privledges over the rest of us subjects here in Ca. I sure hope that lawmakers and the courts get busy soon. As soon as Jan, I will need a permit just for ammo, unless they get a lawsuit in soon
