The 10mm resurgence continues. The latest to add yet another attractive 10mm option is Springfield Armory with their RO Elite 10mm 1911. Here’s their press release . . .

GENESEO, ILL. (11/19/18) – The Springfield Armory RO® Elite series ups the ante in power with the introduction of its newest model in 10mm.

New for Fall 2018, the RO Elite features premium upgrades in the popular 10mm caliber for shooters interested in competition, hunting or personal defense. It features a 5-inch forged match grade stainless steel barrel with a fully supported chamber and a forged steel frame and slide that are precision-fit for fluid-smooth function. Coated in Black-T®, this highly corrosion resistant self-lubricating treatment is built to withstand the most punishing conditions, and is the same treatment specified on Springfield Armory 1911s built for the FBI’s SWAT and Hostage Rescue Teams. Equipped with an 18.5 lb. recoil spring, the RO Elite 10mm is well-balanced and soft shooting, taming the power of the hottest 10mm loads. A Picatinny rail allows operators to attach accessories, and slanted serrations on the front and the rear of the slide encourage easy manipulation of the slide.

The forged slide and frame, the heart and soul of Springfield Armory 1911s, sets this gun apart from competitors’ cast models on the market by surpassing them in both strength and durability. Early attempts in the firearms industry to make a 10mm pistol fell short due to these firearms inability to endure the abuse from the pressure of this cartridge. Springfield Armory engineers specifically designed the RO Elite 10mm to offer superior performance in the face of repeated recoil and have built an incredibly strong 1911 that will last lifetimes.

A tactical rack white-dot rear sight allows for single-handed operation of the slide should the need arise.  The fiber optic front sight provides quick and effortless target acquisition.

Springfield Armory’s crisp Gen 2 speed trigger, ambidextrous thumb safety, and custom thin-line G-10 grips were designed specifically for the RO series and add premium features to the time tested 1911 platform.

The RO Elite 10mm – Forged in the fire of disciplined craftsmanship.

About Springfield Armory®

In 1794, the original Springfield Armory was designated as our national armory by General George Washington, and began manufacturing muskets for the defense of our young, free Republic.  This monumental institution went on to serve as a think tank for developing innovative firearms concepts and producing some of the most storied rifle platforms in our country’s history.  The Armory functioned as a firearms supplier for every major American conflict until 1968 when the government sadly closed its doors. In 1974, two centuries after its inception, Springfield Armory Inc. in Geneseo, IL revived the iconic heritage of the Armory to carry on its legacy and restore the Springfield Armory name.

Springfield Armory Inc. engineers, manufactures and assembles their legendary M1A™, 1911, 911 and SAINT® AR-15 lines of firearms in Geneseo, Illinois. Since 2001, Springfield Armory has enjoyed a strategic, collaborative partnership with the state-of-the-art factory in Croatia working hand-in-hand to develop and engineer the multiple award-winning line of XD® polymer pistols that have become staples in the US marketplace. We strive to honor this responsibility as guardians of the original Springfield Armory legacy by manufacturing the highest quality firearms to enable responsible citizens to preserve their right to keep and bear arms in the defense of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

With an unmatched emphasis on craftsmanship, performance and exceptional customer service, our mission is to forge superior firearms and provide the tools necessary to defend individual freedoms and equality for those who embrace the rights and principles secured by our Founding Fathers.  For more information, please visit us at: springfield-armory.com.

    • thats not how lobbying works. Three companies do not have to lobby for everyones right, or all tangental gun rights.

Democrats in greater chicago are the reason.

SA doesnt even sell supressors, why was there not a suppressor company lobbying in ILL ?

Do you have any understanding of this at all?

Why was every pawn shop, big box, etc lobbying?

If you shop at a big box, then you are a sell out loser.

      • Surprising how many guns Springfudd can find to import into the USA and slap their name on the side.

Dead to me too. Hope the site gets some serious coin to keep posting this crap.

      • We were a vote away from passing suppresssor legislation before these vermin sold Illinois gun owners down the river and forced us to fight a battle that should never have happened.

  1. I always wanted to be an operator and for 1145 dollars I can. They need to stop pretending they were George Washington’s armouror.

      • And in Illinois Benedict can still vote Demon-rat…… SA is DOA to me.

I will keep on keepin’ on with the XD-40, 12,000 rounds and still going. But will never buy another.

I likes my Ruger Security 9.

  2. I want something like a SP-01 Phantom, P10, Steyr A1, Archon or Caracal in 10mm. Light, thin and low bore axis. I think right now the only thing close to that is still a Glock.

  3. Im very happy with my Commander sized RIA 10mm. Half the price and Ive had it for 4 years now. Its never missed a beat. All these majors aren’t coming up with anything “new”, maybe to them. But not to me. The 10mm is still my funnest gun to shoot. With full power loads I might add. None of these 40 s&w ish loads for me. They aren’t fun they are wasting resources to me.

    • I have the same pistol and agree with you. I wouldn’t mind a full sized 10mm but as I get older I find myself not being that interested in buying the latest toy.

  4. I see we have the usual “I will never buy another Springfield again” posts from people who never would have bought a Springfield before the troubles.

I applaud those actual Springfield customers who walked away and are now buying Glocks even as Glock pays off anti-gun politicians to sell guns.

    • I wanted an M1A from Springfield. Not going to happen. I’ll buy something else.
I also wanted an XD compact for carrying, Not going to happen.
I also don’t own Glocks but not for the reasons you listed. Those seem like valid concerns as well.

      • Then I respect your choice.

I always laugh when people who obviously never buy the product or shop at a store ho into boycott mode.

        • So tdinva knows everyone personally apparently. Wish I had that super power. For myself, I purchase guns and gear on a regular basis and love trying out the different companies to test product as well as customer service. Just so happen to be in the market for a 10mm at the moment too but Springfield won’t be getting my cash or support after their inexcusable acts.

        • So let me translate your comment into plain English. “I don’t own any Springfield products but I am not going buy this one either.”

        • Follow up. If I boycotted every gun manufacturer that sucks up to antigun politicians I would be virtually disarmed. So FOAD with your righteous anger.

        • tdinva,
SA and RRA did far more than just suck up to anti-gun politicians. They directly, actively worked to undermine the rights of American citizens for their own protection. They colluded with anti-gun politicians to change their stance on legislation that would have long lasting impacts on lawful gun owners. They changed their official testimony from “against” to the legislative effect of “indifferent” when their specific companies were carved out of that legislation.
On top of that, and during that time, they gave tens of thousands of dollars to the most rabidly anti-gun politicians, often in tight races, where their dollars and support made a difference, both in and out of Illinois.
Then, as icing on the cake, they lied about it when they got caught.
          They are traitors.

    • I owned (3) Springfield handguns before the BS went down. I have since sold all 3 and wont ever buy another Springfield product so long as I live. They torpedoed gun rights in IL and sent any possible progress totally off the rails.

  5. I own an American made Springfield 1911 all alloy 45 acp and an American made M1A Scout. I love them both and have thousands of rounds through them without a hiccup. No, I would never buy a foreign made Springfield. Yes, I do own foreign firearms and I will never trade them off, such as my Belgium Browning BT 99 among other fine firearms. But, I do buy American products when they are available. probably 80% of the time. Yes many American firearms companies have gone overseas, but I don’t blame them, I blame American politicians. Hopefully, if the demonrats don’t stop Trump, many of those companies will come back and be hugely successful.

    • “No, I would never buy a foreign made Springfield.”

Have you ever used google in your life? Man alive you are one confused old geezer.

      • Yup, I am definitely an old geezer. No, I don’t purposely use google. My search engine is and has been DuckDuckGo. Yes, I am a nationalist, and proud of it. I support American made products as much as possible. The house I built in San Diego County was 100% of non Chinese products. Drove my wife crazy, but it was all non China made. The biggest problem was in the lighting fixtures. Finally, we found some of them made in Mexico. But I can honestly say, non of the house was made in China. Have no problem with the Chinese people, have major problems with the Chinese government. Same thing with ammo. I have never used foreign ammo. Steel bullets, really? I’ve read some good things about Mexican ammo, may try some of that in the future.

  6. If you want 10 mm, for the same price got with http://www.fusionfirearms.com/
made in USA and starts with bars stock steel to forged steel.
From 4″ to 5″, 6″, 7″. Rail or no rail, anyway you want it.
All made in Venice, FL, all steel parts.
Once you go +P+, be sure to get like 26 lb springs from Wolff Springs.
That’s what it takes to tame something like Underwood Extreme Defender or Penetrator with over 700 ft-lb energy out of 10 mm Auto.

  7. I scored a slightly used stainless Colt Gold Cup Delta Elite at a gun show a couple years back for $600 from a guythinking the recoil was too much and needed money. It’s a great shooter except that the increased recoil over .45 ACP can cause one to reset the slide release accidentally if not careful how high the left thumb is placed. I’ve never encountered this with any of my pile of 1911s.

    • Craig in IA, you’ve scored a great gun, but it shouldn’t be particularly hard recoiling. You probably already know this, but the recoil spring life on those stock Colt’s isn’t long at all. Colt recommends replacing them every 500 rounds.
I do a complete spring replacement on every used 1911 I buy, and I replace the recoil springs on my 1911s regularly. Like most shooters, I’ve seen a pretty big difference in recoil and wear on the guns if I keep them maintained.
For the Delta Elite, especially a used on, I would highly recommend the Wilson Combat Flat wire kit:
      https://shopwilsoncombat.com/Flat-Wire-Recoil-Spring-Kit-Full-Size-10mm_460-Rowland-24-Lb/productinfo/775/
If you think a lot of rounds have gone through the gun, then a complete spring replacement is a good idea.
      https://shopwilsoncombat.com/Complete-Spring-Set-Full-Size/productinfo/316G/
But you’d need to go with a heavier recoil spring, like this one https://shopwilsoncombat.com/Recoil-Spring-5-Full-Size-22-Lb/productinfo/10G22/ or the flat wire listed above.
On the Delta Elite, you are likely to really feel the difference with a fresh recoil spring.

      • Flatwire is the way to go. I average about 900 rounds before replacing one depending on loads etc. I agree on a used older gun minimum to replace is recoil spring.

      • Thanks for the info. I doubt this Colt had more than 20 rounds through it when I got it. I have many other 1911-type/clones in .45 ACP plus an old LAR Grizzly .45 mag and have managed to keep them going pretty well over the years, but it’s worth a try, and cheap, too.

Thoughts on buffers? Always put Brown rubbers in everything but the latest acquisition from Republic Forge insists not to use one- claims his frame will stand up to anything.

        • I use the Wilson buffers because they recommend them for some calibers. But honestly, I’ve never been able to tell a difference. It’s just so cheap and easy that I’ll do it because the manufacturer said so.

        • My concept of using the buffers was to keep the slide, frame and bbl/link from shock, not the shooter. Recoil from either 10 mm or 45 ACP is hardly an issue, especially in a full-sized gun.

  8. Springfield Armory betrayed the 2A community.

Until they come clean, remove current leadership, and ask for forgiveness, DO NOT BUY FROM THEM.

  9. All you Springfield haters better sell all your Smith and Wesson stuff as well. Seeing how they still have the “we bowed to Clinton” locks on their revolvers. And if I wanted a heavy pistol my CZ 75 SP01 Tactical is substantialy better than this thing anyway.

  10. it’s good that s’field article comments turn into alternative lists.
    delta.
    bruin.
witness (i’ll wait for the cz99).
pissed ithaca has no 10mm plans.

  11. Gosh , just wanted to read a review and found a pot full of of rants . I don’t own any SA firearms but interested in purchasing another 10mm . Thanks for the review and for the others enjoy your 1st Amendment rights .
