Before now, Springfield Armory only offered a 10mm 1911 TRP (Tactical Response Pistol) through their Custom Shop. Reflecting the market’s growing desire for guns chambered in the mondo caliber, the Illinois gun company has added two 10mm “Operator” TRP’s to their regular lineup. [Press release below.] They ain’t cheap, but quality never is. That said, TTAG’s waiting for our T&E samples to make a final judgement. And waiting. And waiting . . .

GENESEO, IL, December 15, 2017 – Springfield Armory’s most elite production 1911, now available in the potent 10mm cartridge. Two new 10mm TRP™ Operator® models – one with a 5-inch barrel, and a long-slide with a 6-inch barrel – deliver tactically proven engineering, greater terminal velocity and now more stopping power.

The TRP™ (Tactical Response Pistol) line is based on the custom Professional Model™ that met the stringent specifications to win the FBI’s coveted HRT 1911 pistol contract. Until now, Springfield’s TRP Operator 1911s were available in .45 ACP only. Since its introduction, the TRP has become the standard for serious fighting handguns – a tradition the feature-rich 10mm models continue.

“We have offered 10mm 1911s from our Springfield Custom™ Shop for many years but this is the first production 10mm 1911 offering in the Springfield Armory lineup,” says CEO Dennis Reese. “The TRP 10mm is soft shooting, built for accuracy and takes advantage of the full potential of the hottest 10mm rounds, just as the cartridge was originally intended.”

Forged steel frames and slides are precision fitted to Match Grade stainless steel barrels with fully supported ramps. Frames and slides are coated in Black-T®, a self-lubricating, highly corrosion resistant finish that is engineered to shield the firearm from the heaviest use and toughest conditions. Integrated three-slot accessory rails allow rock-solid attachment of lights and lasers. Sights are 3-dot tritium night sights, featuring a tactical-rack rear in the 5” version, and a fully adjustable rear in the 6” model.

The Octo-Grip™ front strap and mainspring housing coupled with G10 VZ Grips® assure a confident hold. Once the ambidextrous safety lever is flipped, the Springfield Armory Gen 2 Speed Trigger, tuned to a crisp 4.5- to 5-pound pull, delivers custom-grade feel and performance. The 10mm recoil is tamed by properly balancing the recoil impulse with a heavier slide/barrel combination in conjunction with an optimized recoil spring making it an unbelievably soft-shooting pistol. Each 10mm TRP Operator is shipped with two 8-round magazines.

The new 10mm TRP Operator models weigh in at 40 oz. (5-inch barrel) and 45 oz. (6-inch barrel), making these full-sized 1911 pistols soft-shooting and well-balanced options in a serious fighting handgun.

“The TRP is built with one goal in mind – to be the toughest, most reliable and accurate fighting gun available,” according to Springfield’s Reese. “There is no place for compromise. Our TRP Operator models are simply the best production 1911s on the market.

About Springfield Armory®

In 1794, the original Springfield Armory was designated as our national armory by General George Washington, and began manufacturing muskets for the defense of our young, free Republic. This monumental institution went on to serve as a think tank for developing innovative firearms concepts and producing some of the most storied rifle platforms in our country’s history. The Armory functioned as a firearms supplier for every major American conflict until 1968 when the government sadly closed its doors. In 1974, two centuries after its inception, Springfield Armory Inc. in Geneseo, IL revived the iconic heritage of the Armory to carry on its legacy and restore the Springfield Armory name.

Springfield Armory Inc. engineers, manufactures and assembles their legendary M1A™ 1911 and SAINT® AR-15 lines of firearms in Geneseo, Illinois. Since 2001, Springfield Armory has enjoyed a strategic, collaborative partnership with the state-of-the-art factory in Croatia working hand-in-hand to develop and engineer the multiple award-winning line of XD® polymer pistols that have become staples in the US marketplace. We strive to honor this responsibility as guardians of the original Springfield Armory legacy by manufacturing the highest quality firearms to enable responsible citizens to preserve their right to keep and bear arms in the defense of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

  1. Sorry, Springfield Armory. You showed your true colors earlier this year. As a result, I refuse to purchase ANY of your products.I will, however, give you a C- for effort.

  2. yet another product NOT in demand. it seems these guys don’t understand how supply and demand works. the demand is supposed to come first LOL

  3. And waiting.

    Don’t hold your breath, Robert.

Springfield sure seems pretty unrepentant if they’re holding a grudge against us for merely reporting the facts. AFTER they were REPEATEDLY warned not to sell out gun owners.

    John

    • Thanks for letting your personal vendetta against Springfield kill a pro gun lobby group in a state that desperately needs as many as it can get. Jay might’ve dicked up that bill pretty bad, but that shouldn’t undo some 10 years of solid pro gun work.

    • This is one of those things where my idle curiosity gets the best of me.

I’d like to know what their (and RRA’s) in-house numbers looked like and how their legal teams thought the proposed law would have affected their business. It strikes me that there is a possibility that their legal team looked at these things and said “It’s going to affect the business like this…” to which their bean counters replied “You mean put us out of business lickity-split”.

For all the talk about how RRA and SA could have just left Illinois, that’s not something that happens overnight and it’s hellishly expensive.

Personally I don’t much care about the laws (or people for that matter) in Illinois. I’m really just curious about the hows and whys of the overall situation.

      • “For all the talk about how RRA and SA could have just left Illinois, that’s not something that happens overnight and it’s hellishly expensive.”

Yet Magpul had no problem leaving Colorado for Wyoming and Texas after Colorado passed magazine limits. The legislature even gave Magpul an exception in an attempt to get them to stay. States would court SA and RRA, offering tax breaks, improvements, etc for them to move their production.

        • Except that MagPul had already done a lot of the preliminary work to move out due to how they were being taxed. Moving to Wyoming and Texas was part political and part business.

Oh, and it still took them nearly two years to finish things after the new laws passed.

Further, moving a production facility like the one MagPul had is a lot easier and cheaper than moving a production facility that does high end metal machining. Both in terms of equipment and in terms of personnel.

        • Sorry man, I know it’s harsh but the reality is that this isn’t all RRA or SA. The root problem is the voters of Illinois who vote against their own rights and interests at every opportunity.

Illinois is currently in a race with Cali to see who goes belly up first. That’s just another symptom of a voting public that’s too ignorant, too stupid or too disconnected for me to have any sympathy for.

Further, the idea that RRA and SA should contribute a dime to any of this is slightly offensive no matter which side the companies take on any given piece of legislation. Effectively what Illinois gun owners/supporters are saying is “Hey, our state is dumb and keeps electing the wrong pols. You know what? Everyone in other states should pay a premium on products built in our state to help fight for the rights we don’t really care that much about”.

Even if RRA and SA never fucked this up I’d still like to know why people buying products from them would be expected to subsidize the stupidity of the voters of Illinois.

  4. Still will keep my XD40 from Cratia. It keeps on going bang. Closing in on 11,000 rds so far not a single hickup. That being said ’tis the only SA I will own.

I support the 2nd amendment but…… Springfield dumped it for convenience, so I did the same to them.

  5. Springfield Armory can kiss my a$$. I don’t care what they dream up, they are never getting any of my business.

  6. I would also say Springfield Armory is flat out lying when they claim lineage back to the *REAL* Springfield Armory of yesteryear. The current company has nothing to do with the arms manufacturer that resides in history, except the name, to which they purchased the rights to.

    Laying pack of deceiving assholes.

  7. Springfield Armory is dead to me and most of us who love our country, constitution and the second amendment. So why the hell, Robert, do you want to foist this crap on us?

  8. Springfield is run by a bunch of people who exptected and planned for Hillary to win the election. Maybe if they had bet on the right horse, and poured more money into pro 2A candidates, instead of trying to get in bed with the Clintonista’s, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

  9. Why would anybody pay such outrageous prices for a 1911 in 10mm? Other companies offer 10 mm guns for less than half of the Springfield Armory price. Why is it so expensive, is it gold inlaid and can put 10 shots inside an inch at 100 meters?

  10. Nope. Springfield is on my boycott list until they make serious amends, like S&W and Ruger did.

I have no interest in a full sized 10mm 1911, anyway.

Now, if someone comes out with a subcompact single stack 10mm auto, I’m there.

It can’t be worse than the Airlite .357s, and Smith sells a TON of those things.
