Prop 63 passed with a 2-to-1 margin. The gap was almost 3 million votes, man. Sorry, but the NRA could have dumped its entire operating budget into that fight and it very likely still would have passed, because California has many millions more shitheads than thinking people.
The strategy seems to be to fight such nonsense in court, which will still be expensive, but at least has a tiny chance of success. Electoral wins for the pro-2A side in California just aren’t in the cards anymore.
The NRA didn’t have the resources to transport 5 million voters into CA in time for the election. Prop 63 was real easy with all your neighbors voting for it.

During the Obama administration, in response to various statements and actions by Democrats, I joined the SAF as a lifetime member, initially joined the NRA on a five year membership, then upgraded to Easy Pay Life. Some time early in the Trump administration, I’ll have paid off a life membership.
I think I have some membership with SAF, not certain, but I always manage a check when they have a notable success, and they send me all their appeals. Likewise GOA. No one org is the be all to end all, spread it around.

We all agree the organization isn’t perfect, and they’ve screwed up before, but dammit, they absolutely did it right this time. Instead they went all-in on Trump, because Trump will appoint the Supreme Court justices who will be in the mold of Scalia, and it is that Supreme Court that will be deciding the case on the legality of your California laws.
So yes, you should send some coins to the NRA. They fought the fight intelligently, and they won the only way they could. Now as soon as we get one or two Justices confirmed, you and the rest of your California residents need to get to suing the unconstitutional infringements so that the case can make its way up to the Supreme Court and this horseplop can be defeated once and for all.
And when it is — I hope you’ll recognize that the NRA played it the only way they could have, and they will be hugely responsible for your ultimate liberation. And that it will have proven to be a hell of a lot more effective than if they had just burned through their cash in a doomed campaign to stop California from passing their ridiculous propositions.

I am a REALLY not fan of IL in general, but credit where credit is due. Unlike some others, IL took the SCOTUS rulings and ran with them, instead of attempting to pretend the ruling meant something else than it did. That’s why you have actually seen real improvements, unlike CA, NJ, and others.

The NRA didn’t throw you under a bus, Mk. The NRA chose to not fight a state-level battle it had no – zero, zip, nada – chance of winning.
It focused on getting a candidate elected who will have a major say over the composition not only of the Supreme Court but also the circuit courts, which benefits gun rights everywhere in the country eventually. Not just California.
I used to live in CA. I learned to shoot there (of all places). And I’m sorry to see the laws that are passing, pass. But the majority of people who voted, voted in a democratic process for the ammo checks to pass. The only real way to defeat that is to push it up to the level of the republic where judges remember that majority rule is mob rule on rights issues.
And the way to make sure such judges are appointed is to focus on the highest level of the republic, since that’s the level those judges are appointed at.
I’m sorry. I truly am. But for the country as a whole it is far better to not have Hillary in the white house, than to have a single problematic state check its slide briefly.

The NRA is the big dog in the fight for gun rights, and has been for decades. NRA/ILA has been largely successful in the Courts, and recent ad campaigns were well done. These efforts are funded only by contributions and are worth continued support.
Think how much more effective the NRA would be if every gun owner were an NRA member.
