Press release:

Springfield Armory XD-S Mod.2® in 9mm

The next generation of the most popular pistol ever produced by Springfield Armory is now available in the most popular caliber with the introduction of the XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm.

Since the release of the XD-S Mod.2 in .45 ACP earlier this year, Springfield Armory has engineered a pistol specifically designed around the 9mm round, resulting in a smaller frame and slimmer profile in this latest version of the XD-S Mod.2. With a frame less than 1-inch wide, the XD-S Mod.2 9mm disappears under even the lightest clothing.

Built upon a time-tested platform, the XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm was designed to achieve maximum concealability while maintaining life-saving reliability when you need it most. The XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm survived a grueling 25,000 round torture test without a failure. This is an amazing testament to the quality of the pistol, especially when considering its small size.

The XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm features upgrades chosen to perfect the subcompact pistol for concealed carry. An AmeriGlo™ Pro-Glo tritium front sight makes target acquisition quick and accurate, while the tactical-rack serrated rear sight provides the added benefit of being able to rack the slide against available surfaces such as a belt, doorway, boot etc. should it become necessary to cycle the gun one-handed. A model is also available with a fiber optic front sight and tactical-rack serrated white dot rear sight. The enhanced grip texture allows for a secure yet comfortable grip, wet or dry, and the new, longer Posi-Wedge slide serrations make the slide easier to grab and operate. A loaded chamber indicator allows shooters to not only see the condition of the gun, but to feel the condition of the gun when it’s placed in a holster, or in darkness and low-light. A newly designed ergonomic grip safety immediately readies the gun to fire when gripped, but keeps the gun safe from firing during appendix or off-body carry. An additional drop safety in the striker block, in conjunction with the beavertail grip safety, prevents the gun from firing if dropped.

The XD-S Mod.2 frame positions a shooter’s grip higher on the gun, closer to the bore axis, for better recoil control and accuracy. Coupled with the dual captive recoil spring and full length guide rod, the XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm is soft shooting and well-balanced. An enhanced short reset trigger makes for fast, controllable follow up shots with any ammo.

The XD-S Mod.2 ships with two stainless-steel single-stack magazines: a 7-round mag with a pinkie rest and additional flush floor plate for carry and one 9-round extended magazine – perfect for home defense. An 8-round extended magazine is also available for purchase.

For those looking for a trusted every day carry handgun, the Springfield Armory XD-S platform is consistently amongst the most popular and widely-chosen carry guns on the market. The XD-S Mod.2 in 9mm will provide superior reliability, safety, and concealability when you need it most.

About Springfield Armory®

In 1794, the original Springfield Armory was designated as our national armory by General George Washington, and began manufacturing muskets for the defense of our young, free Republic. This monumental institution went on to serve as a think tank for developing innovative firearms concepts and producing some of the most storied rifle platforms in our country’s history. The Armory functioned as a firearms supplier for every major American conflict until 1968 when the government sadly closed its doors. In 1974, two centuries after its inception, Springfield Armory Inc. in Geneseo, IL revived the iconic heritage of the Armory to carry on its legacy and restore the Springfield Armory name.

Springfield Armory Inc. engineers, manufactures and assembles their legendary M1A™, 1911, 911 and SAINT® AR-15 lines of firearms in Geneseo, Illinois. Since 2001, Springfield Armory has enjoyed a strategic, collaborative partnership with the state-of-the-art factory in Croatia working hand-in-hand to develop and engineer the multiple award-winning line of original XD® polymer self defense semi-auto pistols that have become staples in the US marketplace. We strive to honor this responsibility as guardians of the original Springfield Armory legacy by manufacturing the highest quality firearms to enable responsible citizens to preserve their right to keep and bear arms in the defense of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

  1. Total lack of situational awareness by the jogger.

Middle of the road with headphones on…….dohhhhh!

Gun might help her. Might not.

  2. other than looks, it’s not different enough from my original xds to make the purchase, mine still goes bang every time and has the same capacity.

    • Actually held one just a day ago at Buds Gun. It IS a noticeable improvement from the old model. I find the grip way more comfortable as I’m not a fan of the checkering on the previous gen. Didn’t think to check the sights however.

With that said, it’s a solid improvement, but I wouldn’t trade-in, sell, or replace my gen1 XDS9 to upgrade to this. Still a better option if you don’t own either though.

    • But a Glock has a terrible trigger, hits 4º too high, because the grip angle is terrible, and has a tendency to go bang unexpectedly, because it lacks any sort of safety.

      • actually, it has 3 passive safety features. But presumably you’re referring to the lack of a manual safety, in which case you’re not gonna like what i have to say about the XDS

(Spoiler alert: it doesn’t have one either)

      • I think you meant the P320 has a tendency to go bang inadvertently, since Glocks are physically unable to go bang without the trigger being pushed rearward.

If you’d like to discuss dumb people shooting themselves by not following the 4 rules, we can do that.

    • Meh.
Let’s just keep reminding them that we’ll be watching their every move very closely.
Hard to stay mad at HS Produkt, they make a good gun and simply had the misfortune of signing an import contract with some folks who were not 100% in our camp.
      🤠

  3. Ugly, made by enemies of the second amendment, and it is for an over saturated market. Pick one by a pro 2a company.

  4. Looks like a nice update to the original XDs, which is a very high quality single stack 9mm pistol. I like the idea of the “enhanced trigger”, but I’m not sure if it’s the same trigger, or enhanced over the original XDs, which has a very distinct, crisp reset. I like the updated grip safety shape, and the mod.2 grip (I have two XD Mod 2s in 9mm as well as the original XDs-9). It’s also 1.5 oz. lighter than the original, I think the weight was saved in the new slightly beveled slide shape, removing a tiny bit of steel, which is a plus. Also the tactical rear sight is a nice improvement as well.

My only gripe is the frame is 2mm wider than the original XDs. It seems to flare out about 1mm from the slide on both sides for 3/4 of the length of the gun. Probably not a deal breaker, but I wonder if it’ll fit in my current XDs IWB leather holster (probably snugly).

    Overall, color me impressed.

  5. It sucks that SA had to sell us out like they did. My EDC is an XDS-9, and I love it, and I like the looks of this 2nd gen model. Was also looking at one of their Range Officer 1911’s (would have been my first 1911) before their treachery.

  6. All I need to see in this article is “Springfield Armory” and I don’t have to read further.

I refuse to give traitors my money, and anyone who gives them money is a traitor in my eyes.
