Second Amendment Social Media Twitter Facebook

A lot of our readers are active on social media, both in 2A groups and on your home feeds, and quite outspoken when it comes to guns, Second Amendment rights, concealed carry, legislation…even TTAG writers (and that’s a whole ‘notherย Oprah, so don’t get me started).

But today, I want to talk about a comment I receive quite frequently on social media, which is, “Why bother engaging with anti-gun citizens or non-Americans?”

Good question.

Here’s a good example:

The English tart in question decided to dig in after I posted a picture of my guns on the range. (OH, THE HORROR!!!)

Yes, it would have been easy to just block him because honestly, who gives a flying fig what some British crumpet thinks of my Second Amendment rights. However, I try to use every opportunity I have to educate those less fortunate than me… less fortunate in that they only know what they’ve been spoonfed by the liberal media.

For instance, Will truly believed “AR” stood for “automatic rifle”. That’s right; in 2018, given the popularity of smartphones and the fact that Google is literally at everyone’s fingertips, this guy still adheres to the ridiculous notion that every MSR is automatic.

I responded only partly because I wanted to educate Will but a big part of it is that social media is just that: social. Will wasn’t the only one to see the tweet and hopefully, now that he’s been educated on this one, albeit minor aspect of the gun control argument, he will not only discontinue advancing this glib nontruth but also start looking into the drivel he’s so eager to spout off.

Or maybe he won’t but discussing gun rights and whacking down the gun control dumb online makes me much sharper in person. On a recent trip, I was donning my NSSF jersey when I grabbed breakfast in the hotel on my way to the range. A woman named Mary who was refilling the bacon pointed at my shirt and asked ‘what’s this all about’, so I informed her I was filming a video at a local gun range with a gun manufacturer.

Her eyes lit up and she said, “Oh my gosh, that’s so wonderful – good for you! That’s so neat! You know, I believe in the Second Amendment and we own guns but these automatic weapons that are killing so many kids are evil, we really need to do something about them.”

A GREAT teaching moment ensued starting with me posing the question, “What makes a gun an ‘automatic weapon’, Mary?” and we ended up talking for 20 minutes about ArmaLite, the Second Amendment, gun violence, self-defense and the gross lack of civility in the fight for gun control.

Would I have had this interaction if I wasn’t so practiced on social media? Probably.

Did my online interactions make this face-to-face discussion a little easier? Absolutely.

When I returned to the hotel on my way back through a week later, the same woman came running up to tell me she told all her friends about how “AR” stands for ArmaLite and that her friends want to meet up at a local range to do some shooting.

Geometric progression, my friends – that’s how it’s done.

So sound off on social media, fight back against the ignorance, stand up for our Constitutional rights but do it respectfully and tailor your response to each individual person. Try to recognize the subtle cues your opponent gives out. Are they a mom? Talk about defending their kids. Are they a hunter? Discuss how hunting is conservation and the Second Amendment wasn’t written because the whitetails were coming. Are they from the UK? Try this:

https://twitter.com/g22dude11/status/1011990215093866497

But remember, it’s also smart to be cognizant of where the conversation is going in order to recognize when to end the discussion on a high note.

See you on social media!

  1. The funny thing is the incident that caused the British government to ban guns was one where THE GOVERNMENT was incapable of saving people and took several hours to arrive.

  2. I voted for one issue this time. My Second Amendment Right. Which means I also voted for the First Amendment, which these liberals keep abusing.

  3. The only thing I would add is to always remind antigun Brits that their murder rate has been higher nearly every year since their gun ban, while America’s has plummeted over the same period. This doesn’t prove that private gun ownership reduces homicides, but it does prove that gun control laws don’t reduce homicides.

  4. I guess then I’m not social. The masters of all this social media are liberal lunitics. I will have nothing to do with them or their probrams. Yea, I’ve got family doing it, but they understand why I refuse to, Besides, I already spend a lot of time on sites such as TTAG and Patriot Pulse. Who needs social media?

    • I made a fb account for when I was out of the country for a week and a half. It made communicating with my family back home much easier. After I got home I just left, even looked at it about once every 5-6 months. About 2 months ago I decided to delete it because of all their political stunts. At the end of the process i was asked for the reason for deleting my account. I replied with “politics, bitch!”
      Subtle, i know….

  5. I touched on this a couple of days ago on my blog. Fear is what drives many liberals. No matter how many times you correct people or how often it is posted there are still people that think AR stands for Automatic Rifle. I love movies but they don’t help the argument at all, even TV for that matter. Almost always in movies in tv today there are fully automatic weapons and everybody has a huge firefight with fully automatic weapons. I think because of this and fear the left views all of us as John Wick and they really have no idea what they are fighting against in the first place. If you want Jenn you can check out my facebook page its my2nd.net you can also find me on wordpress I follow you guys but my wordpress site isn’t done yet, it is up and running but I have to fix several things before I start stearing people to it.

    • I had to copy a link explaining the history of the AR-15 to an ex military guy who insisted that it was a fully auto weapon before he believed me.
There are so many people that believe this because of the Assault Weapon tag.
BTW “Assault Weapon” was coined by gun manufactures back in the day in order to sell something new. Now it’s coming back to haunt us. So they shot themselves in the foot (pun intended)

    • What does select fire have to do with the validity of the 2ndA? The NFA and the GCA are both unconstitutional. The Revolutionary War was won with the colonists personally owned muskets and cannons, the same arms as the gov’t! Why would they then limit the colonists power to non military arms after the war? If you want to impose draconian, unconstitutional laws on the American people, at least go through the proper channels, i.e. a constitutional convention! Give us our rights back!!!

  6. Social media sites, and twitter most specifically, are cesspools of leftist human debris. It’s not someplace I want to hang out.

Jenn has made a questionable move / possible mistake by arguing with idiots. They have a lot of experience upon which to draw.

    • I always operated on the old saying that you should never get into an argument with someone who is to stupid to know when he’s lost. It saves a lot of time and angst.

But then I ran across Larry Correia, who made the very good point that internet arguing is a spectator sport. Don’t worry about getting whoever you’re arguing with to agree with you; it won’t happen. You’re really arguing for the benefit of everyone else who might be listening in, and if you do well at it, you’ll win converts to your position in the long run.

Still, choose your battles wisely. Sometimes it just isn’t worth the attempt.

  7. I donโ€™t do the social media thing unless you count gun blogs. But I believe social media has actually made the pro gun rights, and conservatives stronger as a whole. We all found out thereโ€™s a shit ton of other people who agree with us, and can spread our message without the influence of the left wing media.

    • Yea, if the masters of the sites don’t prevent them from making their comments, which I’ve read theydo a lot of it.

      • They do. Many alleged pro gun forums don’t even allow meaningful activism because it may be considered controversial (what activism isn’t?)

  8. Twitter appears to be one of many social networking organizations devoted to attacking my country, my rights, and my beliefs.

I can’t imagine a reason to ever visit their web site.

  9. “You lot cling to 2A which was written for another age. ”

“It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776 โ€” that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance of the people of that day and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. But, that reasoning cannot be applied to the great charter. If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward a time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction cannot lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more “modern,” but more ancient than those of our Revolutionary ancestors. “

  10. I love brits for the most part

but the new age Pussy ruled ones —I don’t get?
can’t buy knives..flour or eggs on certain dates because of ‘bad people’??
lets not even mention spending time in jail for teaching a Pug to do a Hitler salute???

but you have to love the moron that dressed them all in red with BIG…no HUGE white ‘X’s” to put a bead sight on line up with rear sight and BANG chest or auto head shot! my ancestors thanked that moron all the time in the 1770’s!

  11. Anyone who thinks the 2A is just some out-moded 18th Century anachronism must have missed the entire 20th Century. It was a good time for genocidal tyrants who liked killing millions of their own people.

The 21st Century isn’t starting out too bad either, for murdering tyrants, including a world-wide fascist theocratic death-cult.

They will never be stopped by “reason”. They can only be stopped by force of arms. If guns ever go out of style, they haven’t yet.

        • When you think that you are arguing with an idiot, it is time to step back and figure out how many idiots are arguing.

  12. I’m just old enough to not be a millennial. I think social media is the bane of current existence. It has and will ruin countless people. It hinder’s people’s ability to make real relationships, distracts people driving and doing important tasks, takes parents away from their children because they can’t keep their nose out of their iPhone and off facebook or instagram (or whatever other social media). It allows bullies to relentlessly bully kids outside of the school confines. It’s a glass house. It’s fake. Groups of people together at a party or dinner night out sit their on their phones, instead of conversing with each other with any meaningful conversation. Not to mention it allows for the spread of fake or unverified news faster than anything in the history of the world. It’s causing an ADD society because people need to continually get their iPhone fix. I hate social media.

      • I was thinking the same thing. Take the “Like/Dislike” button from U-Tube and other sites and use it here.

        • You mean like a social media site?

Ya’ll do realize that blogs, forums and their comment sections are also social media, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Society changes. Adapt in some way, or go extinct (complete irrelivance). Unfortunately those are the only two options.

  13. While I am all for helping people learn and correcting misconceptions, sometimes the stupid just hurts too much.

  14. The Brits have more important problems to be concerned with then our Constitution.

Like how are the going to stop the mooslims from cleansing England of everything England.

  15. I love when people say the 2A is outdated.
2 comes after 1, therefore 1 is even older. Is the 1A outdated? (I know ratified same day but anti-gunners donโ€™t understand that)
I also donโ€™t think twitter or any social media was anticipated when the 1A was written, so how can they be protected by the Consitution but not a AR-15? They must both be protected and respected as an individual right.

  16. One of the benefits of engaging with these police-state-loving, gun banners is to get their names and their friends’ names.

If they ever decide to light off the civil war they are promising, at least we will be able to fill in their toe tags.

  17. Quite often, firearms owners are their own worst enemies. The duck hunters don’t like the AR-15 “black rifles” so they see no problem if attempts are made to ban them. The traditional rifle owners don’t like machine guns, so they have no problem with them being legislated out of existence. Some pistol owners see nothing wrong with certain long guns being outlawed just as some rifle owners would have no problem seeing pistols banned. You see, anti-gunners want them all. They will chip away a little at a time until their goal of civilian disarmament is complete. They have an excuse for banning every firearm. Scoped bolt-action rifles are defined by anti-gunners as “sniper rifles” because they are “too accurate”. Magazine-fed weapons are suspect because of high (actually normal) magazine capacity. Handguns are suspect because they are “easily concealable”. The gun grabbers want them all and have made (flimsy and suspect) excuses for banning every type of firearm. They don’t care how long it takes. and will use incrementalism to their advantage.
Friends, ALL firearms advocates must “hang together” and realize that an assault on ANY means of firearms ownership and self-defense is an assault on ALL forms of firearms ownership and self-defense.
There is absolutely NO ROOM for complacency among ANY Second Amendment supporters. An attack on one is an attack on ALL…
ALL firearms laws are unconstitutional on their face. Imagine the hue and cry if “reasonable” restrictions were placed on First Amendment activities, especially with the “mainstream media”. The Second Amendment is clear–what part of “shall not be infringed” do politicians and the media not understand…of course, they understand full well…it’s part of their communist agenda…
Even the NRA bears some responsibility for capitulation on matters concerning firearms. The NRA failed when it allowed the National Firearms Act of 1934 to stand without offering opposition, the 1968 Gun Control Act, the NICS “instant check” system, the “no new machine gun for civilians” ban in 1986, the so-called “assault weapons ban in 1991, and other infringements on the Second Amendment. Let’s face it. What better way to increase membership than to “allow” infringements to be enacted and then push for a new membership drive. Yes, the NRA has done good, but its spirit of “compromise” will only lead to one thing…confiscation.
If the NRA is truly the premier “gun rights” organization, it must reject ALL compromise…

  18. โ€œFreedom hath been hunted round the globe. Asia and Africa have long expelled her,
Europe regards her like a stranger, and England hath given her warning to depart. O!
receive the fugitive, and prepare in time an asylum for mankind.โ€ (Paine, Common Sense pg.
    37).

We can all do a “Freedom Blanket” for the Brits.

  19. Most Brits I have talked to on social media about guns are, as they say there, “TWITS”…..
They have turned into a nation of cowards and snowflakes, and all the while claim they are so much better than the uncouth hillbilly cowboys that populate America.
I guess being cowardly snowflakes is the highest dream they can aspire to in their socialist paradise.

It also turns out that both Australia and Canada are similar. What’s up with that????????
Am I the only one that noticed this?

    • There are a lot gun lovers in Austraila. I’ve seen numerous warnings from Austrailians to Americans about making sure we protect our 2 Amendment. They had most of their weapons taken from them and are warning us. Completely unlike the Brits and Kanuks.

      • I am one of those Australians who have warned that. do whatever it takes up to and including 1776 to stop it happening. without those arms it will be much harder and liberty will be lost for generations to come. if there was some way i could move to the US i would and i would do my DUTY to Liberty and join a militia. maybe when it happens if you are not part of a militia you have no right to vote? men and women alike. in many places around the world if you did not have a business or were a land holder you had no right to vote. part of having that right is, or should be, tied up in doing your civic duty to help liberty prevail

  20. Something I don’t think he wants to consider, his ancestors tried to take our ancestors guns away, so our ancestors used those guns to drive his ancestors away.

    • all i can say is in hindsight maybe the americans should have done what they are more inclined to do now…. pursue them back to the country they are from and remove those in power there. would have done the world a favour…. australia included

  21. Australia was originally a penal colony for English felons. They were mostly hard men that didn’t like authority all that much and settled their grievances with violence.
    It’s quite a switch to today’s Australia.

I have a copy of a government edict that was published in all their newspapers that said this: “PERSONAL PROTECTION IS NO REASON TO HAVE A GUN”….!!!!!! It also said: “Under the latest gun laws, personal and property protection are no longer considered acceptable reasons to possess any type of firearm…..No exceptions, no excuses” (Sunday Telegraph, June 14, 1996)

I really feel bad for the true Australian patriots still living there……..

And to get back to the original article, YES we must tweet and comment about the Bill of Rights any time we can.

    • thanks mate and yes i agree. many aussies these days are nothing more than a bunch of snoflakes. i have been giving the call to arms since 1990 when i was only 16 and yes even then i did not see it as some adventure but rather a last resort. i have seen plenty who would call themselves hard men whose honour code is down the toilet. most of the outlaw bikers in the big clubs (some of which have been overtaken by moslems) have a stricter honour code let alone some of the few solo outlaw bikers i have known. many of the rest would not know what an honour code was if it hit them in the face.

  22. A song for real Australians (From Men At Work):

I said to the man, “Are you trying to tempt me?
Because I come from the land of plenty”

And he said, “Oh, you come from a land down under?”
“Where women glow and men plunder?
Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder?”
“You better run, you better take cover”

And a song for real Americans (From Tom Petty):

    Well, I won’t back down
    No, I won’t back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
    But I won’t back down

    No, I’ll stand my ground
    Won’t be turned around
And I’ll keep this world from draggin’ me down
    Gonna stand my ground
    And I won’t back down

    Well, I know what’s right
    I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin’ me around
    But I’ll stand my ground
    And I won’t back down

Let’s hear it for Patriots everywhere ๐Ÿ™‚
