For years now Skinner Sights has focused on irons, specifically for lever-action rifles. Their ladder sights have been and are being used for the 150th anniversary Marlin Model 444, among others. This is something I hope Ruger keeps rolling now that they’ve purchased the Marlin brand.

Skinner also has a broad variety of aperture and other sights available for everything from Ruger to Winchester to Henry (and more). But now they’ve branched out into rifle scopes. Skinner Sights, under the name Skinner Optics, has launched a 1-6×24 scope.

The Skinner Optics 1-6×24 looks well-made right out of the box. It’s a lighter-weight optic designed for use on whatever rifle platform you choose – bolt, lever, AR. As the name suggests it has a 1-6x magnification range and a BDC reticle so will handle your average deer hunt, hog hunt, or day at the range.

The Skinner Optics Scope has a 24mm objective lens and a standard 30mm tube size so you won’t have trouble finding a mount for it. Something I like is that it’s illuminated with a 2 MOA red dot (who doesn’t enjoy some illumination in their scopes). That illumination is powered by a CR2032 battery, meaning batteries aplenty and a nice long running life.

Andy Larsson, owner of Skinner Optics, had a few things to say about the inspiration behind his company’s new scope:

I wanted to bring forward a scope that would be suitable for the lever-action platform, with clear optics, useful yet simple reticle, good, crisp adjustments, affordable, and with the quality [necessary] to wear the Skinner brand name. [Designed by] drawing on a lifetime of experience in the outdoors and the hunting and shooting sports, this scope features the high points of what we always wanted in a scope. We have been extensively field testing this optic with great success. The proof is in the freezer.

Of course, the new optic isn’t just for lever guns and hunters. Whatever rifle you choose to put it on, the Skinner 1-6×24 has clear glass, well-defined adjustments — none of that mushy or slippery turrents some scopes give you — and proper eye relief.

From what I know of Andy and his wife Sheila’s hunting habits, I daresay this scope has been put through the wringer on their end. And with an MSRP of $299 – currently marked down to $249 – it would appear, at first look, to outperform its price point.

  1. Won’t say where it is made. That means Skinner sold out to the CCP. The Chinese Communist Party.
Won’t be buying any of their products going forward.
