I wonder if you peel off the sticker it says “Fireclean.” Sure would be a great way to clear out old stock.
All joking aside, I use Slip2k and love it. Seems to do what they say it’s supposed to do.
I’m a side note, Robert said he’d write the occasional article for TTAG. Have I missed them? Don’t recall seeing any. Anybody know what he’s up to?
I switched to Slip2000 and have been extremely happy. I’ll stick with CLP cleaners as it has been good enough. Maybe I just like the smell of Ballistol.
Fireclean also did what it said it would do. So will any other oil in the world. The dishonest part is the claim that their particular kind of veg oil, presumably because its red(or whatever other color they chose), that insignificant change makes it somehow better. And the payoff for the deceiver comes when he can now get a gullible group to believe his story to the point where he can charge US 29.95 for 6 cents worth of veg oil.
NOTE: Fireclean was not indicted, they broke no laws. They merely went bankrupt when their con game was exposed and their foolish followers wised up a little. And then doubled down by filing suit against the one who exposed them. Little wonder that went nowhere.
I still wonder if that wasn’t another con game between Fireclean and their attorneys. It would be a good way to get all of Fireclean’s ill gotten gains into some other hands where the bilked consumers(presumably a trifle angry…) would never be able to recover them. And all it would require is a willing Law firm. Fireclean uses 100% of its assets on useless lawsuits, leaving nothing at the bankruptcy. The company then ceases existence and the Law firm and the CEOs split the take.
Yeah, that doesn’t sound like a plot does it? It could be a Hollyweird blockbuster(if there was any such a thing remaining…other than Marvel Comics).

Since it is not the same as SLIP2000, its either better and SLIP2000 is worse, or Sig’s version is worse than SLIP2000.

First it was TW25b, then Lucas, now this.
Sounds like a “money thing” to me.
I use TW25b wherever metal touches metal.
One gun has over 26,000 rounds on it and has barely any wear (P226 9mm)

Whenever you have a hardened steel slide on an aluminum frame, it’s really helpful to use a lube like TW25b that really works well between the two surfaces. Sig is certainly not the only manufacturer who does this. Sig also exceedingly beautiful guns like the P226 X5. Nothing wrong with GLOCK reliability, but the guns themselves are a little dated.
Not “a lube like TW25B,” simply any grease will do. I used a $9 grease gun tube of wheel bearing grease when I shot classic P series SIGs.
Eh. Maybe so. I’m not inclined to use cheap stuff on expensive guns. Maybe I pay $50 / year on TW25B / Otis Ultrabore 085 and a few others – all of my guns, except one glitchy AR-10 build, run like champs.
I did a number of posts documenting the wear on a P228R through out shooting 10,000 rounds using that cheap wheel bearing lube. It was minimal.
How many cycles does your car goes through with a grease like that, and how often it is replaced? A lot, and rarely.
TBH most gun lubes and greases in particular are nothing special. That isn’t to say that there aren’t special lubes, I pay $30 a tube for Oxygen safe lube for breathing equipment. But guns don’t have any special requirements like that.
Yup, I save a lot of cash with my Glock. I don’t buy any of that fancy lube and cleaning crap, just slap a little fresh mud on my Glock whenever it’s looking a little dry and blow into the muzzle once in a while, usually (if I remember) with an empty chamber; wait, aren’t you supposed to pull the trigger to clean them? Knew I was forgetting something. I’ll be sure to do that next time.

[Except that darned striker and plastic striker channel liner that are intolerant of even one atom of dust and need to be cleaned out every 100 rounds or so and that also get stuck whenever they heat up after dumping a 33 round magazine].
I’ve used Slip2000 for a while and found it to be an outstanding product. I’m certainly not willing to pay extra for it to say “Sig” on the label, but at least Sig Sauer is partnering with a good brand.

So I’m wondering is Slip2k, or Lucas for that matter, really a better product or is this simply a new money making sales ploy?
