SIG SAUER has determined that some of their rifles have improperly heat-treated hammers. As a result, they’ve issued a safety warning and recall for these guns. Here’s their announcement and how to determine if your rifle is affected.

SIG SAUER, Inc. has determined that a limited number of rifles in the SIG716 DMR®, SIG516® Carbon Fiber and SIGM400® Predator models are subject to a Safety Warning and Recall Notice. Some models were built with a two-stage SIG SAUER trigger that may have an improperly heat-treated hammer. Over time, this could result in a trigger malfunction creating a significant safety hazard. SIG SAUER is issuing a mandatory recall to replace the hammer and trigger assembly in these specific rifles. This recall does not affect any military or law enforcement rifles or any SIG MCX®/SIG MPX® products.

SIG SAUER will correct any of the affected firearms at no cost to the customer.

The firearms affected by the recall can be identified by the presence of a SIG mark etched into the hammer. See image below.

  1. Glad they are on top of this. There is gonna be a slip up once in a while. And just because glock hasnt had one yet, doesnt mean they wont.
And i would personally take a sig over a glock anyday of the week. Glock jistt dont fit my hand and are not comfortable to shoot.

    • >there is gonna be a slip up every once in a while

      >almost all of the most recent recalls come from SIG

Only slip up I haven’t made this year was buying anything from SIG.

  2. Sig does it again! 3 rifles and a pistol in less than a year. Plus the initial problems with the P938. Beata testing the MCX on the public, and somehow selling military and police departments a gun (226) that completely SUCKS for a left handed shooter. I can manipulate a 1911 jist fine with my left hand, but that decocker in the grip plain sucks. I know there are not a lot of lefties out there, but if you got injured and had to do the border toss and shoot off hand it blows …Sig Sauer, when you cant afford an H&K or you’re not smart enough to buy a FN or a Glock. Also, lets face it. There are at least a dozen other AR platform rifle companies out there doing it better and often cheaper. I don’t know why people would bother with this over priced garbage. The should change the name to Shit Sauer.

      • Ron Cohen, yes. His MO seems to be to take a small, high quality company and balloon it to ten times the size, crank out a bunch of crap and sell it for quality prices. Basically he burns good reputations to make some quick cash, then moves on when people stop buying. I expect to see him leave and take the CEO seat in another reputable manufacturer soon.

Man needs to get the hell out of firearms and into overseas manufacturing. He’d probably fit right in there.
