  1. I have the Chinese SKS with a blade bayonet. The LOP on mine is beyond horrible. Trying to find an aftermarket stock that I can shoulder without slacking my arm on my supporting hand.

  2. My love of the SKS started after borrowing a friend’s Norinco for a hog hunt on his farm. Yugos are my favorite of the bunch. Never seen an original 59 before, pretty cool. I’ve lost count of the number of times an old timer has recalled to me the days when the SKS ran dirt cheap with even cheaper ammo, just to make me green with envy.

    • I wish I had picked up one of the brand new $80 Norinco SKS’s I saw back when I was in high school in the early 90s. We thought they had to be junk because they were so cheap.

  3. Mine is all in Tapco furniture with an adjustable stock to approximate the AR look and address the LOP. It came that way, along with the original wood furniture.

  4. I have a couple of SKS’s now…. I was more of an AK guy before, but they’ve kinda grown on me. One of them is my hog-gun, and it works perfectly for that purpose.

  5. I purchased a Chinese ’60’s era SKS a few years ago with a bayonet from a local Houston gun dealer because I couldn’t resist the low cost of ammo to feed it. Couldn’t be happier, it’s a blast at the gun range and I have a simple excuse to exercise my 2A rights. Rock on!

  6. To me the sks, silly folding jack knife and all, feels like a handier, lighter and quicker rifle than it really is. And Murphy proof. What’s not to like.

On one visit to the range when it came time to clear weapons and check targets I locked the bolt back and opened the hinged mag. Just locking the bolt was good enough for the RSO so when it was time to lock and load for another session of firing I snapped the mag shut and did not reopen it till I got home to clean the sks.

When I did re open the mag a complete and live 7.62×39 dropped out of the mag springs. Apparently when I snapped the mag shut I scooped up a live round laying on the bench.

The weapon functioned flawlessly for the next couple of hours and 120 rounds or so of shooting with that round in the mag well amongst the springs.

  7. If the hot girl at school (AK) had a taller older sister who was less popular but as hot but in more of a traditional “she’s a swell gal” kinda way and she called you angel face once in a while that would be an sks.

  8. I got my hopes up when I saw the alt.text over the “Next Story” button just now onnacounta I sent in a picture of my Shernic Gunworks Bullpup SKS for this series. I guess it got lost in the e-mail… or perhaps I’m being impatient.
