It’s a hard thing to accept, but shooters in rights-restrictive states simply cannot own (or will not be able to own) semi-auto modern sporting rifles, mainly those based on the AR-15 design. But they can usually own manually-operated actions, such as those manufactured by Uintah Precision.

Uintah Precision produces bolt-action, precision upper receivers for AR pattern rifles. Compatible with LR-308 and AR-15 platform rifles, UPR10 and UPR15 bolt-action uppers simply pin in place on an existing upper receiver. No modifications or changes are needed to your lower receiver and they feed from standard magazines. They are available in both left- and right-handed configurations.

Standard offerings for the UPR15 are 223 Wylde, 300 BLK, 6.5 Grendel, and 224 Valkyrie.

Standard offerings for the UPR10 are 243, 308, 6mm Creedmoor and 6.5 Creedmoor.

UPR10 uppers currently come standard with Shilen, No. 5 profile, match grade barrels and have a 20-MOA rail machined into them.

UPR15 uppers come standard with barrels produced from Preferred Barrels blanks and are a flat top railed upper.

The bolts are three-lug designs machined from 4140 American steel and utilize a Savage-style extractor.

Both models are compatible with most aftermarket accessories.

This year, Uintah Precision is debuting complete bolt-action AR rifles. They feature matched uppers and lowers both designed and produced in house. Price: Price: $1088.

    • Wouldn’t be allowed in my part of the world because it would be considered a replica of a prohibited weapon. We have some really funny rules downunder that even prohibit firearms based purely on appearance and not on how it works.

    • Good to go for NY even with all the assault features. Just will probably not be able to put it on a scary ghost lower.

    • You must not be talking about California, because you can definitely buy a lower in CA. This is great for California gun owners, you can have a bog standard lower with no stupid mag locks or ugly, dangerous, bad ergo grips with this upper. And should an event happen when the rule of law is no longer enforced, two pin swap and done.

  1. The price strikes me as excessive but I actually find the idea to be kind of neat. Bolt action is a great way to force yourself to slow down and REALLY focus on the fundamentals

    • The way I read the article was that a complete rifle was MSRP of $1088. I don’t find that to be excessive. If it was the upper only then OK.

Another question: The article says that the bolt action pins to the ‘upper’. ?? I’m thinking they are selling a complete upper receiver that pins directly onto a DPMS lower receiver. I found that paragraph to be confusing.

    • So buy a Savage 110, some ammo, and some crank and you’ll really focus on the fundamentals and have 400 bucks and energy left over for dancing later.

      • “So buy a Savage 110, some ammo, and some crank…”

You’re close enough to Polk county where that would be no problem at all… 😉

        • Every time I read a “Polk County Story” I always think if ever a man was made for his job – it’s Grady Judd.

  2. Price is higher than a complete rifle because this is a niche product.

Which I have no interest in, but hey, wish them well in their new business.

    • Price quoted IS for a complete rifle, Not out of line for a “precision” 308 but a little pricey for anything else…….”This year, Uintah Precision is debuting complete bolt-action AR rifles. They feature matched uppers and lowers both designed and produced in house. Price: Price: $1088.”

  3. I’m wondering if these will have to have 2 serial #’s and count as 2 separate firearms when they are sold as a complete unit with both an upper and a lower?

I read an article about how the ATF would not allow another company to sell bolt action AR15 uppers unless the upper was sold as a firearm with its own serial #.

    • The second serial number was for a specific. .50 BMG upper (Safe Harbor SHTF). They ruled that upper was a firearm all by itself. They’ve done it with other uppers, and it’s usually when the upper can be fired (at least on theory) without attaching it to the registered lower.

    • So, if I bought one of these, living in a state without nonsense, will the upper FIT on a standard AR lower? For example, if I wish to see how it works with a different trigger. Or, will a different AR upper fit on this lower?

  4. (cough cough)

KaliKey BCG + charging handle combo. Under $200. And lets you swap your original BCG back in within only a single minute for original semi-auto function (when crossing the CA border into Free America).

A dedicated upper with actual bolt-action lever that’s static – at that high price – is a big no go for me.

    • And will probably not be considered a real bolt action if they feel like it since it can be quickly changed back to semiauto. Maybe if you weld the gas port closed, remove the tube and made it permanent they might decide it was a permanent mod. Or not since it is really just a whipping boy for them.

  5. I can have any semi-auto gun I want because of certain licenses I have.

I want one of these. This could be the basis for a reasonably priced really excellent bolt gun. Provided they get the details right for accuracy.

    • I’m very curious also. That upper just might be a fun little conversion piece.

They have a good quality barrel maker. So there’s a good start.

      • A quiet bolt-action .300 Black with a can would be a very interesting varmint gun…

  6. Onepistol.com

Id want a bolt action upper so that i could have a folding brace pistol with a 10 inch barrel shoot 300 blackout subs without semi auto action noise. If its 1k for an upper with a shilen barrel well those barrels aint cheap…

In rifle length its boring. But in pistol length its very interesting.

  7. I wish them success with their product.
I looked at these for an SBR suppressor host that wouldn’t have me chasing my brass. I ended up buying a complete side charger upper, removing the gas tube and turning the gas block 180 to cap off the port. I shoot off of my left shoulder. So, it makes a handy straight-pull bolt action. I never have to raise my cheek off of the stock. Converting back to semiautomatic would be easy, but I probably will never do it.

  8. I’ve been looking for a way to bolt-action up an AR upper to get the most out of suppressed shooting/hunting.
This is a cool option but so expensive one wonders why not buy a dedicated bolt gun?
The Kali-Key does the same for a third the price or less.

  9. California will find a way to ban it.
Every time there is a workaround to one of their stupid gun law, they fix it so the workaround is illegal. Remember bullet buttons? No More.

  10. Done that long ago with a side charger handle upper and an adjustable gas block set to closed. Makes a straight pull bolt action not unlike a Blaser. Much less expensive than their offering.

  11. I have one with all the goodies and then some in 6.5 Creedmoor. I adore it! It was costly but it is the only one of it’s kind due to the Timney Calvin Elite trigger that I welded the hammer and milled the face so that it would have a pound pull with no issues. The Iconic lower has some cool features that make it rock solid and easy to work on The custom butt-stock also has a folding attachment to pack easier.
I look at the cost of custom guns and they cost a lot. This one is no exception. If your looking for cheap then build a Ruger Precision as it has a lot going for it out of the box.
