Wheelguns are inherently attractive weapons. It’s hard to make an ugly one (possible, but difficult), and even the ugly ones have some charm to them.

Of all the revolvers currently being produced, the Kimber K6S DASA Target has to be one of the best looking (the new Python might also be tied for that first spot with the new K6S Target). The K6S Target is a 4-inch take on the K6S DASA. Kimber dropped this one on us at SHOT and it’s a beautiful gun.

The 4-inch barrel will most certainly provide a more pleasant .357 Magnum experience, as well as a substantial boost in the round’s performance. The grip is extended to comfortably fit your whole hand on the gun.

They’ve stretched the snub nose size of the K6S DASA into a full-sized fighting revolver with the K6S Target. The trigger is fantastic in both double-action and single-action modes. The sights are also an excellent addition. The front sight is a high visibility fiber optic and the rear is full-sized and adjustable.

The K6S DASA Target feels very well balanced, a bit on the heavy side, but very comfortable. The front and rear sights are an excellent combo and the gun points and feels great in the hand. I was a bit more impressed with the K6S Target than any other K6S model.

The K6S DASA Target weighs 25.5 ounces and is 8.62 inches long overall. The gun holds six rounds of .357 Magnum and the added size would make it a very competent self-defense firearm or a good woods gun.

The K6S has an MSRP of $989 and this is what Kimber has to say about their new K6S Target model.

The K6s (DASA) is next evolution of the Kimber revolver product line that takes the acclaimed K6s system and outfits it with a double and single action trigger mechanism. The platform maintains the benefits of the original K6s such as the outstanding double action trigger pull, compact envelope, and six shot capacity but with the added advantage of a single action trigger. The 4″ Target model features an extended three finger grips for superior comfort and a target adjustable rear sight for pinpoint accuracy with any loading.

  1. How does the grip size compare to a “K” frame? At 25oz this would be really carryable even in a 4″. Just don’t want to get stuck with a J-frame size grip, they’re rowdy even in .38 spl.

  2. Maybe it’s just me but it looks like the ejector rod is the same length as the standard K6s. With the longer barrel, one would think Kimber would extend the rod some to ensure even better ejection. Heck, even Taurus did that with their new longer barrel 856 Defender vs. their standard 856.

  3. I’ve got the 3” DAO model. By Far, my favorite of more than 20 revolvers that I have. All but three are S&W models. There are three Rivers and the one (for now!) Kimber. I will have this 4” K6s Target model. If there was one complaint about my 3” K6s, it would be the fact that it doesn’t have adjustable sights. This 4” gun is gonna complete my Kimber “gotta have” list.

  4. I’ll reserve judgment on the revolver until I’ve held one in my hands. (Although, my Kimber 1911s and Montana have given good service.) In the looks department that ain’t no Python. Or an N frame. In fact, I think it’s kind of homely.

Sorry for the double post. I couldn’t edit some “auto complete” misspellings in my original post.

  6. Ugly but cool too me is the STD Thunderstruck 3SSS,
Check it out,,, I will get one when I get some fun money… ballistics are awesome on this piece, close quarter gun but deadly & small & unusual…
Nice addition to my collection when I can get one.

  7. Pretty revolver! I already have my quota of .357’s in Colt and S&W, when will Kimber be releasing this in 5.7×28 to keep up with the latest ammo fads?

  8. I’d say Kimber nailed the ugly part.

Looks like a cartoon drawing of a gun by someone who has only seen glimpses of revolver in movies.

No reflection on the functioning or performance of these revolvers. They just look goofy and un-balanced.

  9. “The K6S DASA Target feels very well balanced, a bit on the heavy side”

Heavy compared to what? A plastic carry gun? How does it compare to other 6 shot 4″ revolvers?

  10. I have the K6S hammerless 2″ snubbie as a routine carry gun – the trigger is fantastic and it shoots great.

But at 4″, this becomes a target/competition pistol – and for a target/competition pistol I want a gun that weighs 45 ounces, not 25 ounces.

  11. By the middle of the 20th century, the revolver was pretty well perfect. Now it seems it has to be reinvented. I would much rather trust my life to a WWI era (or latter) Colt, Smith & Wesson or Webley revolver than anything I’ve seen designed in this century. My first handgun was a “New” surplus Webley Mk IV .38/200 and cost me a whopping $12.00 in 1961. And yes it was ugly compared to a Colt or S&W, but it was accurate and never malfunctioned.

  12. Best looking? Compared to a Rhino, maybe, but I can think of any number of currently produced revolvers that look better than the Kimber k6s.

    Most S&W revolvers.
    Dan Wesson.
    Colt Python.
    Taurus.

  13. Ordered one for $780. Had a chance to handle and dry fire the 4” combat model before ordering the Target model. Excellent balance, feel and trigger! Mine should be here in a few days.
