Shopkeeper Locks Armed Robber in Store Until Police Arrive and Arrest Him

You see the darnedest things on the internets, don’t you? Those locks and bars on the windows and doors don’t just keep people out, they’re equally effective at locking someone inside. We don’t know where this happened or when (assuming it’s legit). If you do, please let us know in the comments.

The store’s back door (if there is one) was also apparently locked and barred, preventing the would-be robber’s escape that way. In any case, quick thinking by the manager/owner.

    Too funny!

    1. avatar I Haz A Question says:

Um, Dan…clicking on the very link you posted leads to Twitter, and a scroll-down of the comments shows a link jumping to the original article. Took me about 30 seconds to find it. Luv ya, Dan, but you’re off your usual game with this one.

This happened back in 2017, in Houston, Texas. Reported in early 2018.

      1. avatar Darkman says:

Your link wants you to buy access.

      2. As I said above, I didn’t know when or where this happened. Leaving it up. It’s fun even if it’s old.

        1. avatar Tim says:

          Good on you, sir.

      3. avatar Ralph Humphrey says:

        I haz a question too, haz….
Don’t you still think the vid is f’ing hilarious?

        1. avatar George says:

Missed it in 2017 ! Freakin’ HILARIOUS . Wonder how much time he got ?

        2. avatar AdamTA1 says:

      4. avatar Barry Hirsh says:

And, uh…. what is your point? AFAIC, it’s a timeless piece of art that will never get old.

  2. avatar jwm says:

He found god and the error of his ways. Need I say it? Dare I say it? He was just turning his life around.

Nobody that stupid should ever be unsupervised on the streets again.

    1. avatar strych9 says:

But if we stop the stupid then how do we get hilarious interwebz videos and memes?

Seriously, if people this dumb were under constant supervision r/holdmyfries wouldn’t exist and that would be sad.

      1. avatar Greta van sustren says:

“Hold my fries”?….wtf? Is that the soyboy version of HOLD MY BEER????

        1. avatar strych9 says:

          You could go look…

Careful though. You might find someone you know.

  3. avatar Leigh says:

If only one or two had ricocheted…that would have been the icing on the cake.

  4. avatar strych9 says:

    Hahahaha! Nice.

But, now a question. Since he was trapped in a building is this… structural racism?

    1. avatar uncommon_sense says:

Wow, now that was goooooood! I laughed out loud.

I tip my hat to you sir for one of the best puns that I have heard in a very long time!

(And as my comment indicates below, I welcome laughter right now in the midst of struggling with a new tool that appears to be defective.)

      1. avatar strych9 says:

Try the veal. Specifically the picatta.

You’ll feel better, I promise. (Xanax is the secret ingredient, goes great with the capers and a glass of wine.)

        1. avatar strych9 says:

Oh well, better than what my phone tries to make it. “Pic attacks” sounds like a selfie site.

    2. avatar Southern Cross says:

The crook is getting used to seeing bars on the windows before they get to prison.

  5. avatar uncommon_sense says:

    I love it!

I am having kind of a rough day and I am really frustrated with a new tool that I just purchased which seems to be defective. This video certainly brightened my afternoon.

    1. avatar Yep says:

Good thing any reputable business should let you return it

  6. avatar Stop the click-bait says:

Find something legitimate to write about. This is an old video (click bait) not worthy of posting because of its age. Why TTAG would allow this does not make sense.

    1. avatar uncommon_sense says:

I have never seen this video before. And as I indicated in both of my comments above, this video (and the associated comments) is brightening my otherwise less-than-stellar day.

    2. avatar strych9 says:

You realize that you can just skip articles you don’t want to bother with, right?

Find something legitimate to write bitch about.

      FTFY. You’re welcome.

    3. avatar BradB says:

Seeing that video made my day.

    4. avatar SwampDaddy says:

You might want to try Midol. I heard on the internets that it works for men too. Give it a shot and have a great day.

      1. avatar MikeJH121 says:

Still don’t work on soy-boy SJW mamma’s basement weasels though. No testosterone of course, but even females are more manly. Waaaaa I just wanna complain, hold their breaths pass out and complain they have even worse headache… It is one vicious circle. Sometimes the comments from these little melties, are funnier… or maybe just sadder.

        1. avatar Stoopid Pantywaist says:

          Get help, choad.

    5. avatar Ron says:

I don’t care how old it is.
      Funny is ageless.
And that right there, that’s FUNNY.
      Tears in my eyes FUNNY.

    6. avatar Kendahl says:

An oldie but goodie. She locked him up even before he went to prison.

  7. avatar Ralph says:

“I’m going to jail, bro!” Now THAT was funny! What a [email protected]

    1. avatar Dude says:

Bro was the pet mouse in his pocket. Bro was always a great listener.

  8. avatar uncommon_sense says:

By the way did it dawn on anyone that the robber’s default mindset was that he was NOT going to go to jail until the store manager locked him in the store?

Think about that. Before the armed robber had any inkling that he would be trapped inside the store, he was certain that he would rob the store and get away with it scott-free — never going to jail for it.

There is something important there in his mindset for us to learn/understand.

    1. avatar SoCalJack says:

The ladies, or at learst the first one, that knew something was up when that guy first walked in. Had they all had their eyes on their would have been a different out come. Great situational awareness and judgement.

    2. avatar Ron says:

      He coulda wound up DRT.

    3. avatar Jerms says:

The twitter thread said he was caught in an earlier robbery when his getaway car wouldnt start

  9. avatar Sam I Am says:

    “… is this… structural racism?”

Nah, just garden veriety systemic racism. The entire store had a layered security system, thus systemic racism. And the first cop through the door was white. And the alleged perp was forced to ly on the floor, obviously the first step in using either a choke hold, or sit on the perp so he couldn’t breathe. Your observation faculties are failing you.

  10. avatar Hannibal says:

I think I saw this years ago. Funny stuff. Better to rob places that don’t car like chain stores.

  11. avatar enuf says:

That lady who recognized what was happening and hurried customers out, remembering to lock the door behind her deserves a medal!

    Nicely Done! 🙂

  12. avatar SpecialEd says:

That made me smile, and being in Komiefornia, that’s difficult these days.

  13. avatar Gadsden Flag says:

Was he trying to shoot the lock? If so, too bad he didn’t catch a ricochet. Not a fatal one. Just enough to put an exclamation mark on his stupidity. Loved the way he started begging at the end. “I have nothing!” Yet, he was threatening to leave the store clerk without her life.

    1. avatar Stop being a girly man says:

“Not a fatal one” <— The problem with the world today…. compassion for animals that HATE YOU

  14. avatar American Patriot says:

This is so “Pre-Covid”. There’s enough new news you don’t have to fish from the archives!

  15. avatar Dob says:

    From the link:

    Jan. 4, 2018 at 7:22 a.m. EST
A robbery was thwarted at a Houston business when a quick-thinking worker exited the store and locked the would-be thief inside, Houston police said in a statement posted Wednesday, along with a newly released video of the incident. The suspect begged to be let out, but not before he tried to shoot the lock off the door, perhaps something he saw in the movies.

John Bell, 22, pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and was sentenced to five years in prison on Dec. 18 in connection with the April incident at Latino Cellular, according to the police statement.

Every now and then, a blast from the past is just the right treat, at just the right time.

    2. avatar Hannibal says:

I’d be surprised if he’s not out already

      1. avatar Robb says:

He’s not. Not eligible for parole until next year according to the TDC website.

  16. avatar Tim says:

    “Police”? What’s that?

  17. avatar jwm says:

Instead of shooting watermelons and old car doors we need to get a channel that does comparison shoots on store doors.

  18. avatar ben sarrasin says:

Yep…ole Forrest Gump had another bro pegged…”Stupid is as stupid does.” They just keep building that same brand. It’s not about skin color. It’s what is between one’s ears and in one’s heart. They chose to include skin color as an identifier. Like the proverbial dumb blonde. Or fiery redhead. Or Bubba Redneck. Don’t like how others see you. CHANGE YOUR DAMN BRAND THAT YOU CREATED!!!!!!

  19. avatar enuf says:

“Store employee Katrina Leon kept a cool head …”

Outstanding! Hope the store owner gave her a nice bonus for that capture! 🙂

    1. avatar Robb says:

Repeat offender. Guess he can kiss that deferred adjudication goodbye. It would be nice if the state would make him serve out the first 12 yrs he got too.

  20. avatar John Paul says:

    THUG BLM mattter.

    What a great laugh.

  21. avatar JOLJ says:

That reminds me of the video out west of two guys covering gunshop owner & wife, then stopping to look at a gun & wife shoots him when he looked away. they ran & were picked up at hospital.

  22. avatar Timothy V Noecker says:

I’ve Seen this Video Before, Someone Posted It on Facebook Well Over a Year Ago – It’s Still Funny-as-$hit Though, Never Gets Old!!!
