Raise your hand if you didn’t see this coming. After yesterday’s announcement by Tailgunner Joe Biden that the President stands ready to use his executive powers — sidestepping the legislative process — to institute gun control measures yet to be announced, the NRA’s meeting (along with other “sportsmen and wildlife interests”) with the Veep and his fellow blue-suited yes-men today didn’t really go well. Which is as self-evident as saying that Liraz Cherchi looks good in cowhide. Make the jump for the NRA’s statement of disappointment after today’s kabuki act . . .

Fairfax, Va. – The National Rifle Association of America is made up of over 4 million moms and dads, daughters and sons, who are involved in the national conversation about how to prevent a tragedy like Newtown from ever happening again. We attended today’s White House meeting to discuss how to keep our children safe and were prepared to have a meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals.

We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment. While claiming that no policy proposals would be “prejudged,” this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners – honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen. Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works – and what does not.

  1. I don’t for a second believe this meeting was anything but window dressing. As others have pointed out, the panel’s recommendations were largely outlined before the meetings started, and were fleshed out over the last few days. Now it’s just the final editing.

    • The NRA is simply being used as the boogey man in the big gun grab. Divide and conquer. Kinda like the election.

    • It’s a staged dog and pony show for the anti-gun mass media to play with. The political plans were developed months if not years ago: spread miss-information, divide and conquer the NRA from its members, the tactical gun owners from all other gun owners, the big box retail gun stores from smaller gun dealers (crony capitalism is on the way), label and humiliate gun owners, etc.

  2. “You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before…”

    The left-wingnuts got their wish…

And the “second” term hasn’t even started yet!

  3. Anyone who expected otherwise is hopelessly naive.

Keep writing and calling. We have to be relentless at both the state and federal level.

  4. I have to admit some grudging respect for the sometimes-hapless NRA for walking out of that meeting and issuing a “FOAD!” press release. These hominids are not fscking around.

  5. Say it aint so joe, what a POS. Sounds like declaration of war to me. Its good to hear the NRA tell that screwball to go f himself, Randy

  6. Well gosh I am shocked! NOT…
This was expected, and it was predicted. Now we will wait and see that the NRA, GOA, and SAF do about it before something terrible is passed.

  7. Some how, though things look bad, I’m going to keep the faith. A bumpy ride awaits, no doubt. Go to your capitol if you can. Don’t pay 100.00 for a 30 round mag. Give a little more to the group of your choice. All conflicts are fought with the purse.

Keep calm and carry on, ’cause I’m kinda nervous.

  8. So, I’m waiting for this to be put in before the inauguration and publicly supported by Obama so during the inauguration, he and Joe can instead be arrested and charged with treason. I know the arrest won’t happen but a guy can dream.

    • I’ve already requested of my senator and congressman that Feinstein and any co-sponsors be arrested for treason and violation of oath of office upon submission of any legislation intended to violate The Second Ammendment. Might as well add Barry, Joe and all others conspiring to commit treason.

  9. In D.C. v Heller, you know, the recent landmark case affirming individual right to bear arms, it was the Cato Institute , not the NRA that initiated the case.

“The National Rifle Association (NRA) was initially not supportive of the case. One view is that it feared the case might not be successful. Another view is that it feared it would be successful and gut its fund raising mission by deciding favorably the ultimate issue. The NRA ultimately decided it could not be a mere observer without raising questions so it signaled its support for the plaintiffs. It allocated no money for the effort.” (from the above linked D.C. v Heller Wikipedia page)

    Hmm…

Maybe a viable alternative to funding the NRA would be to fund the Cato Institute.

I can’t say I like the inherent incentive structure of organizations like the NRA. If they win, they lose. If they get gun rights unambiguously affirmed, there goes Wayne’s $900,000 salary, not to mention all of the marketing staff, of which 46% of donations go to for fundraising.

It reminds me of the incentive structure that federal welfare programs have. If they succeed in their stated mission and abolish poverty, they all lose their jobs. Can’t have that…

    • i concur sir. I recommend Cato’s “Pocket Constitution”. You can get 10 for $10 and they are good quality. Hand out to your friends and enemies as you see fit.

I also recommend their downsizinggovernment.org website. If any politicians actually just looked at it for 10 min, they would get all the policies they need and might actually pass a budget this year.

      • Thanks for recomendingning that Thomas. I have been on the lookout for a pocket Constitution and the only one I have found has opinions inserted btween every other original sentence.

    • Um…

The NRA-ILA might loose funding, but the NRA Foundation probably wouldn’t, along with the actual NRA itself.

Basically you pay dues to the NRA itself, the NRA-ILA uses money through donations to lobby. The NRA-ILA can say to the congresscritters that they have 4 million people who joined the NRA, along with another 30 million that pay attention to what the NRA says, and thats how they get things changed.

And of course they were worried about Heller vs DC. If Heller lost it means confiscations, and registrations would be legal and allowed, and the NRA WOULD loose all of its money because if no one has guns, they can’t shoot, if guns are illegal, the ILA can’t lobby, if there are no reason to learn about new guns, or get together with other gun people, the NRA dies.

Tomorrow a law could pass saying all guns are legal, all bullets are legal, all machine guns are legal, all fighter aircraft, navy ships, bombs and artillery are legal, and the NRA would still exist. They would just be setting up competitions for people to see who’s the best at shooting artillery from naval vessels or who’s the best at Anti Aircraft machine guns and stuff like that. As long as guns are legal, the NRA will exist.

    • Well, Bob, the NRA thought the case was a loser — and if Kennedy hadn’t joined the majority, gun rights would not exist in America. Period.

I love the Cato Institute and Robert Levy, who was lead counsel, but it took a hell of a risk with our Constitutional rights, dontcha think? One f^cking vote and we’d be toast. One f^cking vote. The Cato Institute got lucky.

      • Uh, Roe v Wade was one vote. The Bush-Gore election was one vote. Many decisions are one vote. The Cato Institution knew what they were doing.

    • I don’t like the NRA they have their own agenda and I believe it’s $$$$$. I belong to GOA & NAGR. They probably aren’t any better but I like the way Larry Pratt handled Piers Moron, ooops there I go again, Morgan, Morgan, Morgan. Pratt was ever the gentleman and when he was allowed to speak he very clearly stated his case. Morgan was more polite to Pratt the second time he was on his show but I think Pratt wiped the floor with Morgan. Morgan, who by the way was fired from the Daily Mirror for falsifying photos of British troops doing war crimes, which they weren’t doing. He’s a schmuck.

  10. I think there’s enough of their meat on the hook this time that the NRA’s going to have to do a little better than they have in the past. For one, if the companies that make up the bulk of the funding lose civilian sales, there’s not going to be much to put back in their warchest. Likewise, all us millions of sons and daughters and mothers and sons of bitches won’t be writing them a check next year. Or ever again.
And some Vichy styled “brokered peace” where my magazines are now illegal, but I can keep my guns! Ain’t gonna cut it this time. As the wise Ricky Bobby once said, “If yer not first, yer last!”
….I really wish Will Ferrell hadn’t demanded a plan. I wanted to see Anchorman 2.

  11. Every gun owner in the US concerned about their 2a rights should join the NRA. Set aside any differences and realize it’s our best bet/fight against this attack. It’s a shame to me that the NRA is only made up of 4M members. It should be 40M.

  12. I am disappointed that there is no PR campaign. Hire the dude from Amidst the Noise, and get a Super Bowl spot. You know Bloombergs gonna do it if we don’t. Anyway, still sending money.

  13. Hate to tell you guys at the NRA…biden is much stupider than he looks….and obummer ….well he’s on another vacation…so if biden succeeds in his quest ( which he will not) but fails ( he will)….obummer can say ” not my fault”

    • Biden is a very crafty politician. Without him, there would be no Obamacare and no Fiscal Cliff resolution. Anyone who underestimates him is done.

      • Yeah, did you not see the way he dismantled Paul Ryan in the debate, without an ounce of substance, I might add.

  14. What a dog and pony show….Our imperialist president has already decided what’s gonna go down. After his re-election he thinks he has a mandate, and with so many buying his act he pretty much does. You have a large segment of the population that’s pretty OK with his schemes and attitude towards the constitution. Add the multitudes that are apathetic at best or too stupid to realize what’s going on and it’s a recipe for disaster. Hopefully enough in the senate and house remember 1994 and it’s aftermath, though I have little faith in any of those drones. If it comes down to the courts ruling on some kind of executive order I’m even more concerned.

  15. All right everyone! If these commies attempt to issue an EO that will take our guns there still may be hope out there. Wyoming is doing all that it can at the state level. They have proposed a bill that would nullify any federal ban on guns and will prosecute any federal agent that attempts to enforce that law in their state. Wyoming is only a few states away from me, I just may move there depending on what happens in Washington regarding the 2A.

We should contact these representatives and show them our support. Perhaps other states will start to catch on?

  16. On a side note…My flaming liberal, John Corzine loving, Jersey Girl neighbor actually supports an armed School Resource Officer in our K-8 school…”I don’t like the NRA, but it is the only way(good guy with a gun) to stop a killer….” she tells me.

  17. So the NRA goes to Washingtoon and accomplishes about, if not less due to lack of budget, what a Hillary “fact finding” mission would achieve.

If GOA, CCRKBA, JPFO, or the Hell’s Angels had gone instead they’d have stood up from the table, grabbed their crotch(es) with one hand, pointed with the other and found a local watering hole to make future plans.

The NRA could have done that too save for the inconvenience of lacking balls to grab. Like the modern RepugniCon party they are more adept at [“we call it ‘maize’ you call it ‘corn’/”we call it ‘reasonable compromise’ you call it ‘selling out’] whining over the end result than winning…

    • They all drink in the same bars and eat in the same overpriced beaneries. The NRA wouldn’t utter an “Ahem, but…” if it meant risking a table by the men’s room door…..

The NRA “warning of an anti-gun agenda” is about as insightful and productive as me “warning of a Jägermeister hangover…”

      PHFFFT! PHFFFT I SAY! PHFFFFFT!!

  18. This task force’s sole job is to find a politically acceptable way to start full scale citizen disarmament. They can parade it around as gun control but the truth is simple. Feinstein said she would push for gun confiscation if the votes were there.

If it wasn’t about disarmament and was about a rational conversation, stories like this would be commonplace:

    http://www.easybakegunclub.com/blog/2527/Good-Guys-with-Guns%3A-Resource-Officer-Stopped-Gunm.html

That’s a story of a Tennessee School Resource Officer who stopped an active gunman at Central High School in 2010. No press then and damn sure no coverage now.

  19. Citizen disarmament, NOT civilian! I am a Citizen, politcritters, police, and other public servants are civilians. Even if they fail to poperly serve their masters.

  20. im sorry but i gots to disagree here. i think the nra is only helping the gun makers and not the gun owners. and absolutely no side has had the balls to discuss the 800 pound gorilla… the mental health issue. No shooting of the magnitude of sandy hook or the movie theater or columbine was done by a sane individual. all of them were caused by insane persons who had exteemely easy access to weapons. i really think if the nra or those nutjobs at the left would discuss this issue im sure a lot of these problems would somehow get better…

    • D.N., have a little fact in your wrong perception of the NRA, there is a reason the NRA has the power it does, ovet 4 million citizens as members, not just gun manufactures.

As for the NRA actually believing in “shall not be infringed” not so much, they’re a gun control orginization, just not as extreme as the Brady’s, they’ve helped to write most of the gun control bills that’s been passed in this country.

I’ll be shocked if they hold firm and don’t support some kind of compromise bill that infringes more of our gun rights, that’s why I’m a member of G.O.A., the no compromise gun lobby.

  21. NRA rep: “You mean that you really don’t want the benefit of our knowledge and experience in this conversation?”
Biden: “This isn’t a conversation, this is how it’s going to be.”
NRA rep: “So you just want to dictate your terms to us and expect us to say ok?”
    Biden: “That’s right.”
NRA rep: “Sounds like something Hugo Chavez might say, your excellency.”
