Yes, we’ve had this discussion before. Gun-related stickers and signs can be a liability. Allegedly. Some gun owners (and commenters here) say it’s all just urban legend.

Now, though, a Georgia sheriff is reporting that he’s seeing vehicles being broke into by thieves looking for guns.

As Fox 5 Atlanta is reporting . . .

Thieves looking for firearms are keying in on pickups with hunting or even patriotic stickers or emblems.

“It may say I’m a sportsman and there may be a weapon in that center console,” said [Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb].  “It is something we deal with on a regular basis.”

OK then. You’d think the same would apply to NRA stickers, “Protected by Smith & Wesson” and the like.

So…do you have stickers on your car that tell the world who you are?

If you do, will this make you get out a razor blade?

      • I never put stickers on my gun safe. Wouldn’t want to advertise to robbers what’s in there.

My bicycle however, its covered with pro-gun stickers.

    • Had to explain this shit to my old man about all the USMC and rifle stickers on his truck and that we live in different times. He saw the wisdom in not advertising yourself as a target for leftwingers / thieves

        • No stickers either. I want them to think I’m a “victim” so they will give me a reason to eliminate a threat! Of course they’ll never waste their time on me because I also don’t drive a new truck and seldom wash it so it looks like I’m not worth robbing.

      • Exactly. Why wait for them to destroy the 1st amendment when you can just be a pussy.
Just looking at this thread makes me think they’ve already won.
I have gun stickers all over my back window – it’s leaving guns in the car that’s stupid.

        • Who said anything about violating anyone’s 1st amendment rights? Put whatever sticker you want on your car. Just understand that covering your car in gun-related stickers CAN make you a target for thieves. Even if you don’t leave your guns in the car, a thief doesn’t know that and they’ll do their best to find out on their own. So maybe your guns don’t get stolen, but your car got broken into.

Also, it’s not just thieves, but vandals, too. Your sticker may piss off the wrong person and you come out of the store to find your tires slashed, mirror broken, or the side of your car keyed.

Better to not make yourself a target.

        • “Just understand that covering your car in gun-related stickers CAN make you a target for thieves.”

And vandalism. After we get the ‘NY Pistol’ decision, Leftists will be so enraged no vehicle with conservative-indicating stickers will be safe…

        • Right…. because potential thieves would never do something like follow you to your house and then just wait until you are not home one day or anything like that.

          herpa derp

        • Yeah Erik, More Pride than Brains! Have you ever heard of the “Green Berets”? Did you know they are called the “Quiet Professionals”? Do you know why? Because they DON’T ADVERTISE neither verbally or otherwise. Remember, it’s not only thieves that are looking at those stickers, the government gun-grabbers and their thugs are looking at them too.

        • MrPotatoHead says:
“Who said anything about violating anyone’s 1st amendment rights?”
No one did. My point was it will never come to that if you’re too scared to exercise them in the first place.
“Put whatever sticker you want on your car.”
          Way ahead of you.
“Just understand that covering your car in gun-related stickers CAN make you a target for thieves.”
Which is why I don’t leave anything in there, especially guns.
“Even if you don’t leave your guns in the car, a thief doesn’t know that and they’ll do their best to find out on their own. So maybe your guns don’t get stolen, but your car got broken into.”
I just saved a bunch of money by switching to GEICO.
“Also, it’s not just thieves, but vandals, too. Your sticker may piss off the wrong person and you come out of the store to find your tires slashed, mirror broken, or the side of your car keyed.”
It’s never happened before, and the same stickers have been on there for years. In other words, F’em.
“Better to not make yourself a target.”
          ohnoes

I’m the last house at the end of a road in a town with one traffic light. Good effing luck w/that, derpy.

The others – not worth acknowledging. You guys are missing the point – this is America, where we are armed and free (and armed) and you guys are on a gun blog defending your choice to be too scared to do what you want because of what leftists and/or criminals MIGHT do. My little sister could whip all ya’lls asses. At the same time.

          Pathetic.

  1. Got some swag from Glock, Sig and the NRA including stickers.
NRA stickers got tossed a while ago. Still have the Glock and Sig stickers but I won’t put them on my vehicle.
Magnetic sign on the back of my car that reads, “Look out for motorcycles”. That’s it.

    • I stick all this swag crap on my treasure box that used to contain all the little do-dads I got from other countries, various currencies, etc, yeah, its covered in stickers, like, a lot of stickers. Everything from flea med stickers to operation forest light stickers.

  2. Got one that says, “Wet Bar on Board!”

Just kidding. No stickers on the car, for this exact reason. Don’t want to advertise.

    • Exactly. I have a decal related to Guardians of the Galaxy to throw anyone off the scent. That’s it. Have never put any gun SWAG or NRA stickers. Never will.

Lots of Browning, 5.56 Club, and S&W decals on trucks here. Even more common when I visit NorCal.

  3. No bumper stickers, no gun stickers, no personalized/specialty license plates. Nothing on my vehicles to give any indication of my politics, or status as a gun owner.

    • Of course, the way things are going, the lack of “Coexist!” or “Save the skeets!” or whatever stickers, will in itself be taken as a statement and therefore actionable.

Hm. Perhaps one could come up with an NYC/CA “camo kit” for vehicles … magnets rather than stickers … Hmmm…

      • It’s safe to have a “Coexist” sticker on your car around here. Also OK is Bernie/Biden/Hillary/Warren/ Save the Planet/ Save the Whales/Save the Earth/Impeach Trump/Dump Trump/No H8 Here. Approved yard signs are: “Hate has no home here” and any anti-Trump sign, usually hateful language used.

        • I see the gun version of the coexist sticker a few times a month. My neck of the woods have a lot of veterans and active duty displaying the one noted, Browning, NRA, III%, and most popular Magpul stickers. I have no stickers on any of my vehicles.

    • “Nothing on my vehicles to give any indication of my politics, or status as a gun owner.”

      Damn straight…

        • Another Yep!

My father always preached that to me way back in the late 60’s when I started driving, not a new concept. Mostly just saw political candidate stickers back then.

        • Maybe none. But concealed carry and zero pro gun stickers make it real easy for anti-rights leftists to claim that there are no good guys with a gun anymore. If all these fence sitters saw pistols on many nice guy’s and gal’s belts and pro-gun stickers on many courteous driver’s cars every day, maybe they would be less susceptible to the gun grabber’s propaganda.

  4. No stickers for firearms related or politics. Stickers can be like driving in NY/NJ with FL plates, draws attention you probably don’t want. I don’t put political signs in my yard either.

  5. If, say, Browning wants to negotiate my fee to display their logo, I’m willing to talk.

Otherwise, why should I give any company free advertising?

  6. I have a sticker that tells everyone I was born in November, but the only thieves I have to worry about is the IA DOT.

      • Some of us are grown up enough that we don’t have to worry about that. 😋
My dad’s bumper sticker said “Lose weight now? Ask me how!” Now that is something I would not be caught dead with.

  7. Used to drive a pickup that had a reflective Florida sheriff’s star, NRA sticker, Ducks Unlimited, National Wildlife Turkey Federation, a couple of Realtree decals all on the rear window. A Florida U.S. Paratrooper specialty plate on the rear and a 75th Infantry Regiment scroll plate on the front. Nothing on either vehicle today except a plain Florida plate.

    • Uncle Leland had a MS specialty plate. Pearl Harbor Survivor. I could hardly walk past his truck at a family reunion without coming to attention and saluting. Many don’t understand.

  8. I have a 26.2 magnet which can appeal to distance runners of any political persuasion. Totally blends in around here. Also a 50 mile one. Next year that one’s gonna be upgraded when I run my first hundred miler. But yeah, no political crap. I suppose if I wanted to be completely “gray man” I would get rid of all unique identifiers and those magnets would go, but I think it’s pretty low threat.

    • “I have a 26.2 magnet which can appeal to distance runners of any political persuasion.”

My dad has the same magnet, but it reads “0.0” on it, because of all the annoying “26.2” magnet-people around here…

      *snicker* 😉

        • I stopped at 13.1. Been running all my life, but only 5K to 10K at a time, usually on mountain trails. Trained for several weeks for Half Marathon once by running 8 miles per day. On race day, guess when my stamina petered out?…at the 8-mile mark. So embarrassing to walk-jog-walk the last couple of miles to the finish line. Of course, I wasn’t accustomed to pounding concrete (again, always mountain trails).

Now I work out with weights and eat fewer calories to keep myself trim. No more races. Though I’m welcoming the cooler weather so I can return to the trails again.

  9. The USCCA one is nice because not many people know what it is. Only gun owners do, (like a secret club). If anyone would ask, I’d say: “Just an auto club or insurance company, like AAA or State Farm”.

    • One problem is; some of these thieves are PotG. It would be nice to say all gun owners are law-abiding and would never break into someone’s vehicle or home. Unfortunately, that isn’t reality.

I have met a few (younger) gun owners that have openly stated that if there was ever a SHTF, they’re not worried about having enough guns and ammo, as they have already identified the gun owners in their neighborhood and will raid those homes.

      • You beat me to it. Was going to say the same thing before I read your comment. Even in “POTG” circles, you need to observe proper OPSEC around new people.

    • Depends on where you live, you know the local ‘mood’ better than anyone else where you are…

    • Yes…. be very concerned anytime you’re forced to store your weapon/s in your vehicle…
      I always lock my doors… religiously…
And I never leave anything of value laying inside the car where someone looking inside could see it ..

  10. All I got on my car is an American flag 911 in the window. If you hate our flag eff you. Otherwise I’m a grayman 65year old…

    • I once read an article discussing interviews with 100+ incarcerated house thieves. Their common #1 indicator that there might be a gun in the vehicle/home was the presence of an American flag. So if they believed the house was unoccupied, they’d break in looking for guns. If someone was home, they passed it up to look for another target.

      • Well, at that point, I’m also not going to let fear silence me. I never got into vehicle sticker thing, they just start to look like trash quickly. But Im not going to be afraid to display a flag, any flag, at my house.

  11. I don’t put stickers on my car advertising anything, much less potentially valuable loot inside. No need to take the risk in exchange for letting people on the road know that they should keep honking while I’m reloading.

  12. In Joplin Missouri it’s been ileagle to display your rifles or shotguns on your gunracks in the back windows of your pickup for years. Joplin sits on western state line and its possible to be in one of 3 differant states in a short time after a theft. Its impossible for local or state law enforcement to persue or in most cases investigate across jurisdictional lines without alot of red tape. The local law inforcement would and will issue citations for guns on display in your gun racks. I beleave if you carry firearms in a vehicle then they should be in secure lockups when the vehicle is un occupied no matter where your location. Insurance companies should make this an inforced rule. But thats just my opinion. Im sure their are many who would or will disagree with that.

  13. This applies to a lot of things in life. Even Baby On Board stickers will attract thieves as car seats and strollers now these days fetch a premium. Sports equipment, tools, ect…

  14. I stopped putting all manner of stickers on my vehicles years ago. NRA, hunting, political. Later my fire-rescue, amateur radio emergency services went on magnetics, put em on took em off as needed.

  15. I hate bumper stickers in general, and I don’t believe in advertising that I might have a gun on me or in my vehicle. I aim to be as nondescript as humanly possible.

  16. don’t have stickers on my cars or truck and unless I am going hunting or my little practice range the only gun I have is the one I am carrying and the only way will get is hot end first

  17. Thieves aren’t totally stupid, hunter stickers, NRA insignia, “I carry a 357 four days a week” signs all attract thieves. Now a “Don’t touch my car unless you know the disarming code” sign might keep them away.

  18. I put stickers on my safe or laptop.
I don’t let the Car/Truck dealerships put their stickers on my trucks.
    So, no stickers on rigs.
May have a gun or two on board, out of sight and locked.

  19. I haven’t put a sticker on my car since the ’85 Ford I drove back in college.

In that case, the stickers were integral to maintaining the vehicle’s remaining structural integrity…

  20. It’s bad enough that the company van advertises the construction company. My tools (my livelihood) are in there. I’d never declare what I have to the public myself.

    • I drive a Transit 3500 XLT passenger van with only two rows of seats left in it. The remaining 8.5 ft of cargo space is usually visibly packed with expensive tools.
On inside of my rear window is a “family” sticker made of an AR15, AK47, HK USP and Beretta 92. On the other one is the NRA sticker and the ISRA sticker. Nothing on my bumpers, gotta keep it classy.

I understand the OPSEC, ‘gray man’ way of thinking. On the other side, I believe that most thiefs don’t want to get shot. I believe that open carriers don’t get robbed as often as concealed/no carriers. My truck suggests that its owner has something more than a phone to call 911 and some harsh language in case they get caught.

So far my previous vehicles with no stickers were broken in several times. My various friend’s vehicles with no stickers have been vandalized, broken in and even stolen completely, which we considered par for the course, as I live in Chicago suburbs and often have to drive to the city for business. This one, with the honking ‘gun owner!’ sign didn’t get as much as a scratch in over four years.
Coincidence? Blind luck? Maybe, but as long as it works I will keep advertising for my chosen human rights organizations. You do you.

  21. That stuff goes onthe tool boxes as mentioned. Not quite baseball cards/spokes but close enough. “look at the toys I have” IRL is something I’m just not into.

  22. It’s amazing how effective the left has been at silencing speech/expression that is contrary to their opinions. As a resutl, we have here a host of gun owners here who are proud to hide their enthusiasm. If you’re going to forego stickers, do so because it’s garish and tacky, not because you’re afraid a liberal will key your vehicle or a thief will steal the gun you left in it.

    • Yup. Get to the back of the bus and YOUR civil rights be damned! How easily the left has self-silenced their fellow Americans. Most will say its a self-made decision, but is it really? You shouldn’t be afraid to exercise ANY of your enumerated civil rights…

  23. Man, a lot and I mean alot of rifles and shoot guns on racks in pick up trucks rear windows around here. Wally world parking lot looks like an armory.
Read every other day in newspaper police blotter semi-automatic pistol stolen from Ford F150, no sign of forced entry, owner said it might have been unlocked. AR 15 taken from back porch, screen door torn. If it wasn’t so serious, it would be down right laughable. Back when CB radios were the hot ticket item at your local fences garage. I used to hear this all the time. “That’s a big 10-4, me and the little lady gonna catch the flick down at the Mall Cine, be out in about two hours or so, then we’ll drop by for a beer. Yep Green Weeny we got the yellow ‘vette we gonna park it in the west side lot, less chance of getting her scratched up. We’ll give you a shout when we out and on the way. We 10-7” The only shouting he did was for the police. Radio gone for sure probably car also if it was cool one. Yup yer just kaint fix yer stupids, but yer duzent has ta ware a sign.

    • CB radios were the equivalent of shouting your conversation from the rooftop. I remember hearing on my handhelds two conspiracy theory nuts who said the radio was better than the telephone because the government can’t listen in. I cut in advising they were broadcasting in the clear and anyone could hear them.

  24. “So…do you have stickers on your car that tell the world who you are?”

Yup, veteran, and proud of it…as for other stickers, gun stickers, political stickers, nope…

  25. I prefer to use all the stickers I accumulate on my vacuum cleaner. Not sure why but it’s always the place ive put all my stickers. So all those dust mites know they got a badass 3% sheepdog coming hard at them with 1/2 horsepower of pure shark vacuum power.

  26. The best bumper sticker I ever saw was on the back of the car of a pretty blond I found myself behind that simply said “MAZOLA!”.

  27. What about advertising on yourself? I have a 1911 hat, and many gun related tshirts.. like ‘.45acp.. short, fat, slow and heavy gets the job done’.. anyone think those have the opposite effect?

    • I have “Viet Nam Era Vet” hats I wear.
But I’m not sure thieves are too dumb to follow conspicuous consumers home.

  28. Im in Kommiefornia so absolutely nothing on my car but my barren non-personalized plate. Windows heavily (but legally) tinted – mostly to filter the hot sun but also great theft deterrent. Im a member of a fairly large gun club in northern LA county and same goes for almost every car / truck there – most conservatives here are smart about that. The swag decals I do get go on my toolbox next to my reloading bench.

  29. I don’t think there is anything else in life were people are so eager to tell the entire world (including criminals and thieves)….”Here they are! What you want is right here! COME AND TAKE IT!” Be it stickers on vehicles or flags in the front of homes.

When neighbors talk to neighbors, people know who is armed and who isn’t. Advertising just is not necessary.

  30. Could the concealed carry mindset be affecting other aspects of daily living? Concealment of all things gun related?

    • “Could the concealed carry mindset be affecting other aspects of daily living?”

“…move among the people as a fish swims in the sea.”
      – Mao

  31. Easy solution. Don’t get a sticker that says “protected by Smith & Wesson”
Get one that says “Protected by Hi-Point”

  32. Two kinds of people plaster themselves and their property with stickers, logos, emblems or decals: people being paid to do so and douchebags.

  33. Never liked stickers on any of my vehicles. Political stickers aren’t a good idea, either (at least for our side, anyways). The other side has no respect for other people’s property, and have no problem vandalizing it.

  34. i put a nice big black and yellow trust me.
and a subtle shut up hippie. i think one of the i’s might be bullet shaped…
driftless and dbt were on there from the po.
    ice scraping takes its toll.

    • Actually it’s not.

You leave your home and your car all the time. They can be broken into when you aren’t around. If you are OCing you do not leave your hips behind and one would presume you would resist any attempt toi steal something you are wearing.

  35. Used to have an “FAL” sticker that looked like one of those white oval nation stickers. People would look at it with a puzzled expression of “Where’s that?” It’s long gone now.

Never placed any obvious gun stickers (NRA or brand) on my vehicles for just the reason this sheriff warned of. Even if criminals don’t target your vehicle, seeing it on a car or truck outside your home says “Guns in home.” I mean, why would you have suck stickers on your vehicle if you didn’t own any guns? Besides, no need to advertise; I’d rather just surprise any would-be intruder.

  36. You need to print stickers and yard signs that say “gun free zone- NO FIREARMS allowed on this property- owner has no firearms” and put the stickers on libtard cars and mailboxes and front doors or under doorbells and put the signs in their yards at night.

Anti gunners ARE ONLY PROTECTED by the randomness of gun possession. Help them advertise their piety.

  37. And yet the local Methodist church can put up magic no gun signs and complaining about it does no good even if you are on the trustees.
