 Senator Charles Grassley (courtesy bloomberg.com)

Yesterday, I blogged a letter sent to the Office of Management and Budget. Twenty-nine Democrats directed the OMB’s Acting Director to kill the Tiahrt Amendment—the law that keeps ATF eTrace data under wraps. As part of their rationale for exposing gun stores to criminal and civil prosecution (for legally selling guns later used illegally), the Dems claimed the Amendment hampered Senator Grassley’s investigation into Operation Fast and Furious. The exact wording: “Chairman Darrell Issa and Senator Chuck Grassley had to take the extreme step of requesting gun trace data of the Mexican Ambassador since they weren’t allowed to do so with their own government.” WTF? I contacted Senator Grassley’s office to get the 411 from the horse’s mouth (rather than the other end). Here’s his statement . . .

The ATF routinely releases this type of data to members of Congress.  I’ve asked for it and received it on various occasions. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration would not cooperate when we asked for the information in relation to Operation Fast and Furious. So, it’s not because the U.S. government couldn’t provide the information, it’s that they wouldn’t provide the information, thus the request to the Mexican government.

There are lies, damned lies and the lies perpetuated by those who would trample on your God-given or natural but certainly Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. I wonder what Brian Terry would have thought of these fellow Americans.

Meanwhile, Grassley has cleverly written a “gun control” bill that strips out universal background checks, cracks down on straw purchases and puts plenty o’ pork on the plate for school safety measures.

Equally, it provide awesome CYA for Republicans who don’t want to be accused of “doing nothing” to make America safer from “gun violence” while blocking civilian disarmament legislation.

  1. Anti-gun Politicians who are democrats lying to justify and advance civilian disarmament …..I am sooo shocked!

  2. He’s awesome. If I was gay and he was gay, we’d totally gay marry each other. We’d also totally advcate for gay marriage.

  3. It would be shocking to me that the Obama administration would refuse to release incriminating documents only if I was dumb enough to vote for him in the first place. Which I am not. This President loves big, cumbersome, expensive, freedom – limiting government. I knew that in 2007, and its gotta be all the more obvious in 2013. The incompetence and dishonesty of this administration should boost pro-2A republicans and independents in 2014.

  4. I emailed the horse’s… mouth this afternoon, at the request of NAGR, to ask him, when republican senators are lining up behind Rand Paul to filibuster -any- gun control legislation that makes it to floor, he decides to give them gun control legislation. No wonder the red team continues to lose ground. McConnel decides to watch as his team scatters to the wind. The age of the old guys is over. Mitch needs to buy himself a nice rocking chair and go watch the bluegrass grow. LEAD, FOLLOW OR GO HOME!

  5. I’m ever so shocked that a man that congress indignted and then cited with contempt refused to release documents that further incriminate him! This is almost as shocking to me as when the democrats chose to back off of Obama’s golden-boy Holder immediately after he told them to FOAD, which btw is a felony.
I might even be shocked that Holder’s not in prison as we speak!
So should your (Grassley, among others) refusal to enforce existing laws really justify attempting to further reduce the rights of those law-abiding Americans whose administration didn’t subsidize the flooding of Mexico with firearms to fuel their ongoing drug wars through the manipulaiton and exploitation of the power of the freaking Justice Department?

Seriously? How was this not a regime ending scandal? How did this fail to not just assure Obama wouldn’t be re-elected but fail to get him impeached?

Bill Clinton was impeached for getting a blo-jay Obama orders hundreds of ATF agents to enable felony weapons trafficking to a soveriegn foreign country defrauding the government and taxpayers out of millions of dollars and costing at least one American life, seriously why didn’t Obama pause to consider his putative “even one life” philosophy when he and Holder were talking about the lives of American and Mexican citizens who suffered from Fast and Furious.

This kind of thing is unbelievable and all in the midst of “the great recession” while they can’t even get a budget passed!

    • “Seriously? How was this not a regime ending scandal? How did this fail to not just assure Obama wouldn’t be re-elected but fail to get him impeached?”

      Three words: LAPDOG MEDIA.

    • You can do almost anything you want when 95 percent of the media does everything they can to cover up for you. This is a media problem. Most people do not even know what you are talking about.

Also, Clinton was impeached for many crimes. Primarily it was for perjury, but there was also credible evidence of rape. Again, the MSM was the key factor for covering for him.

In the MSM, the definition of “scandal” is when the NYTs says it is a scandal. Until then, it does not exist.

    • When Obama loses the senate in 2014, maybe we’ll see an impeachment. Otherwise, what’s the point?

  6. I’ve been a fan of Grassley since he first began representing my fellow Iowans. Don’t be fooled by the “aw shucks, I’m just a Farmer from Iowa” routine. He’s as sharp as they come and is just about fed up with BO, EH and Co. Chuck is good, just give him time to make his play.

    • Amen. He’s got 20-20 vision to see right through the BS in Washington. Grassley will have his job as long as he wants it. His will be big shoes to fill when he retires (hopefully no time soon).

  7. The comments suggest a much deeper involvement of the Mexican government in Fast and Furious. Just exactly why would their government have records of weapons that were supposedly smuggled illegally to drug cartels?

  8. Rights are not God given, they are Creator bestowed. The founders knew how to spell God but in the case of rights, they used Creator and they did so for a reason.
