Saw a story yesterday about a family in AZ who the police broke down the doors and put the kids in protective custody because the child in question improved and the family didn’t take the child to the ER as the family Dr. recommended. You know the American experiment in individual liberty has ended when you see society accepting this type of medical kidnapping/assault. And you know there’s at least a few jack-boot wannabes that post here that diddle themselves fantasizing about being one the real jack-boots on the ground intimidating and breaking up defenseless families.

Do you know what would have happened if the family followed the doctor’s advice and took the toddler to the ER with a temperature that was below 100 and almost normal?
Their insurance would have refused to cover it, and they would have been stuck with a bill that could be thousands of dollars.
How do I know? When my son was about one year old, he had a fever of 106.5, yes, that’s not a typo, 106.5.
We wanted to take him straight to the ER, but our family doctor argued with us that the ear thermometer wasn’t as accurate as a rectal thermometer (this is false — medical research shows that the ear thermometer is the MOST accurate), so this stupid doctor told us not to take him to the ER until we could get a rectal thermometer reading, which was impossible for us to do because because our one-year-old was writhing around too much, his adrenaline giving him the strength of two adults!
The doctor kept telling us to just put Tylenol in him and put a cold compress on his forehead, but his temperature stayed at 106.5 degrees, so the doctor GRUDGINGLY agreed we could take our baby to the ER.
By the time we got to the ER, his fever had lowered from 106.5 to maybe 101, so our insurance REFUSED to pay for the ER visit. It took lots of phone calls and appeals before insurance finally paid, and we had to get our stupid doctor to help us get the appeal.
So what your saying is that when you got there they had an accurate thermometer and it showed that you didn’t need to be there just like the doctor told you? Sustained temp of 106.5 would be a death sentence. If the kid doesn’t have ongoing health issues from it he didn’t have a temp that high.
Fevers don’t break that fast without intervention and 106.5F would cause brain damage or death. Sounds more like your doctor called it right. FWIW: Urgent care is cheaper and faster for things like a fever or a laceration where you know something is not right and needs treatment but its not life threatening. We all have those times with kids, somethings wrong and you don’t want to risk DIY diagnosis. ER rooms tend to be full of over-dosed druggies or addicts seeking some pain killers, very sick people, with very long waits and very high co-pays.
Child services people are out of control all across the country. But this is what you should expect when you hire people with a BA in sociology and only pay them $25k/year. You tend to draw a certain kind of applicant. What they didn’t teach them in college is that this sort of thing discourages people from seeking treatment for their sick children in the first place. Why would you risk this sort of thing when your toddler has only a 102 degree fever?
The only child services person I’ve ever met was such a pathetic excuse for a parent they by their own rules should have had their child taken from them many times over.
I’ve decided long ago that if anyone ever tries taking one of my little ones from me that they will die trying.
I think they look for and hire certain types. There is an anti-family agenda built into the courts.
