A shooting at the Corpus Christi, Texas Naval Air Station this morning was stopped with one of the members of the security team that responded being injured.

From the AP . . .

A security team “neutralized” an active shooter early Thursday at a Texas naval air station, the U.S. Navy said.

The security team responded at the Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi at about 6:15 a.m. One security force member was injured, the Navy said. It did not immediately release any additional details.

All gates remained closed and the facility remained on lockdown Thursday morning.

The station had a similar lockdown last December. In another incident at the base last year, a man pleaded guilty to destruction of U.S. government property and possession of a stolen firearm for ramming his truck into a barricade at the Corpus Christi station.

        • I want to say every Naval/Marine base has NICS, but not sure about joint bases.
I think most base CO’s don’t want the accountability if they allowed mil/civ with LTC/CCW licenses to carry on base. It unfortunately will take several active shootings, a lost of confidence in base police and policy/SOP to allow base concealed carry.

  1. Thankfully the gun man was stopped before he had a chance to cause more damage. This brings to bear the importance that all military bases should have armed security to protect our military personal.

    • Security guards at our base entrances at the Joint Base in Anchorage, Alaska always have been armed with M-9s and M-4’s. Also goes for the roving military security guards/vehicles around the base.

    • Every active service member should be carrying side arms on military bases. Those are historically some of the biggest gun-free kill zones. Needs to stop when our service members cannot defend themselves.

      • “all military bases should have armed security to protect our military personal” Like NAS Pensacola? The problem with armed security is they are almost never there when the shooting of disarmed victims starts and obviously can’t stop shootings from happening.

  2. NAS Corpus Christi Shooting: ‘Arab Male’ Killed By Navy Security Forces

Corpus Christi, Texas – The US Naval Institute – 21 May 2020, 12:12pm — The FBI is investigating a Thursday shooting at a Texas naval air station, after a Navy security team there killed an “Arab male” who stormed a gate at the base, a U.S. official told USNI News.

The official did not have any additional details on the identity of the shooter beyond apparent ethnicity. An FBI spokeswoman did not provide additional details when contacted by USNI News.

Navy Security Forces responded to an active shooter at NAS Corpus Christi at about 7:15 a.m. EST resulting in the injury to the NSF sailor. The shooter was killed by the NSF team, the official told USNI News.

“The sailor is in good condition and is expected to be released later today,” the Navy said in a statement.

The base remains on lockdown while an investigation into the shooting commences.

“All gates on the installation remain closed while first responders process the scene,” according to a statement from the service.
“NCIS, state and local law enforcement are on scene.”

Corpus Christi police said the incident took place at one of the air station’s gates.

Naval Air Station Corpus Christi is home to the four squadrons of Training Air Wing Four, which uses Truax Field on base and outlying airfields. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and foreign student pilots train at the base.

Naval Air Station Corpus Christi also houses the Corpus Christi Army Depot which serves as the primary maintenance depot for Department of Defense rotary-wing aircraft. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Service also operates from Naval Air Station Corpus Christi.

    My thoughts:

If we’re nice to them, they’ll be nice to us !

    Coexist !

    It’s Trump’s fault !

    Keep the military disarmed !

    Confiscate guns from Americans !

    /snark

    • ‘Arab male’ active shooter at a training base makes it sound like a redux of the Pensacola shooting not long back. Still, I’d bet against this. If it were a student, he would have probably been able to sneak the gun past the gate rather than try to overwhelm it in a one-man assault.

  3. “Sleepers” being activated to further destabilize America before the elections…? and WHO thinks they might benefit?? DEMS of course… and HOW does it happen that THEY can activate these people?? Are THEY working with our ENEMIES to take over America? Don’t the CCP and the radicals agree on ONE thing? That America must DIE? For that they would work together with American Socialists… to destroy our Nation. Hmm

  4. I’m in Corpus Christi. I haven’t seen anything local about the attackers’s details.

The “Navy Police Officer” that was shot is female, was wearing her vest and it saved her life.
She has been checked out at the hospital and has already been released.

    • I imagine that that much of an impact on the vest would have caused some blunt force trauma. Best to be checked just in case.

The old flak jackets we wore in the old days would not stop a bullet. They were just for fragments and such. I’m glad the kids now get real body armor.

  5. To be expected, ramadamadingdong ends tonight. Should have increased RAMs prior to today. The Navy MA, female took a round to the vest, will be ok. Waiting on eyewitness reports of hearing “aloha snackbar”, not profiling just narrowing the area of probability. ISIS might not want to claim this one, epic fail.

  6. most of the security forces are involved with perimeter defense, since Jar-heads are deemed to valuable for base defense this duty has fallen with the Master at arms rating and GM ratings which run the SP’s, now for the foolish people who expose every military person be allowed to have a hand gun, where are barrack personnel going too store them and wonder if they ever seen a barracks fight!

  7. Some base commanders allow Staff NCO and above to carry.
This was a Navy base so probably not the situation there.
