SAR 9

Gun manufacturers are in love with the Walther PPQ M2. Remington’s RP9 is basically a photocopy, offering the same ergonomics and overall design. Heckler & Koch may hate you but they love the M2; the HK VP9 bears more than a passing resemblance to PPQ. The Sarsilmaz SAR 9 falls into the same category of top-heavy, striker-fired handguns. But at least there are some design choices that on the surface which make the SAR 9 more interesting.

Sarsilmaz SAR 9

Picking up the SAR 9 for the first time, the ergonomics are spot-on. While the SAR 9’s finger grooves are GLOCKish, they’re understated and smooth in the great Waltherian tradition. The Turk’s grip provides just the right balance of purchase and comfort, semi-customizable with a replaceable backstrap.

Also appreciated: the grooves at the base of the grip. Even though the SAR 9’s magazine drops free at the press of a button, the grooves are great for malfunction clearing. You can rip a mag out of the gun in partial seconds.

Less well designed: the SAR 9’s frame-mounted safety.

Sarsilmaz SAR 9

When it comes to preventing a negligent discharge, frame-mounted safeties are an extra protection, welcomed by many. When it comes to armed self-defense, shooters need to be able to switch off a frame-mounted safety quickly and efficiently. Instinctively. Imagine being attacked by a large person with a machete; an angry pile of carbon advancing towards you that needs to assume room temperature ASAP. Now imagine fumbling with your handgun’s safety.

This SAR 9’s safety’s slim profile makes the gun great for sliding in and out of holsters. The low-profile switch also makes it extremely difficult to apply enough pressure to switch it on or off. If I had to guess, I’d say It takes roughly half the weight of a fully loaded 747 to move the safety from the “safe” to “fire” position. In short, when you really need to disengage the SAR 9’s safety it will be nearly impossible to move.

The SAR 9’s recalcitrant frame-mounted safety pretty much excludes the gun from competition consideration. Typically, competitors must engage the safety when discarding the handgun for another firearm. On a GLOCK or GLOCK-like handgun with a trigger safety, competitors simply put the gun down. The SAR 9’s safety would lead to a solid thirty seconds of fumbling at the dump box. No bueno.

What’s up with that? Federal law requires certain safety features on imported handguns. To satisfy these requirements, Turkey’s sole official supplier to the police and military slapped a safety on an otherwise striker fired-only handgun with the expectation that no one would ever actually flip it on. And yet, here we are.

Sarsilmaz SAR 9

The SAR 9 uses a typical split trigger striker-fired design. The trigger functions as it should, with a reasonably clean break and a Walther-like quick reset. But it feels like a cheap imitation of a good trigger — wobbly, gritty, and generally displeasing. It’s the GoBots to GLOCK’s Transformers: a poorly made imitation that feels flimsy and rough on the edges.

Speaking of poorly made items with holes in the quality control process that rival the plot holes in terrible movies

Sarsilmaz SAR 9

The gun ships with a set of three dot sights. Well, two dots and what appears to be a sperm.

Some quality control issues I can overlook. In this case I literally can’t — I’m forced to see SAR’s lack of quality control every time I fire the gun. Gritty triggers and extra flashing on internal components I can understand. There’s no excuse for shipping a gun with defective sights.

If extremely obvious problems can fall through the cracks, I start to question what else might have slipped through.

Sarsilmaz SAR 9

The SAR 9 takes down just like a GLOCK (and every other non-GLOCK GLOCK). That said, the takedown levers on either side of the SAR 9’s frame are easier to manipulate than Gaston’s gear. So there is that.

target

Out on the range the gun performs admirably. The trigger feels a bit gritty, but otherwise it’s acceptable. The pistol actually shoots rather soft for firearms of its size and weight in my opinion — I was able to get the gun back on target quickly and without a whole lot of effort. Accuracy is good, and the gun feeds reliably using both steel and brass ammunition. The one note I will put here is that Blazer steel cased ammunition has an interesting quirk in this gun where the spent cases will tend to fly directly into your face. So be warned, and wear your eye protection.

Sarsilmaz SAR 9

Overall the SAR 9 is a good not great gun, further hobbled by a safety switch that needs immediate rectification. If the Turkish import was priced in the Hi-Point price range, fair enough. At an MSRP of $449, with less troubled firearms like the Remington RP9 retailing for $170, it’s a non-starter. These days there’s not enough room in the market for a poorly made firearm, at any price.

RATINGS (out of five stars):

Fit and Finish *
Gritty, wobbly, and with some extra paint thrown in on the sights for no additional charge.

Function * * * *
It works fine.

Accuracy * * * *
It works fine.

Overall Rating *
Over twice as expensive as a better quality firearm and shipping with a mandatory, yet almost unusable safety. This doesn’t sound like a winning combination to me.

  1. Looks like a poor man’s VP9.

Also look for their ST-9, a poor man’s Walther P99 and their ST-10, a poor man’s USP albeit with a metal frame which is kind of neat. I think y’all even reviewed that one and liked it…

    • Yeah the grips have the current HK “Batman” look but slide looks more Walter like to me. Doesn’t sound like a winner though, might as well go VP9, PPQ, or glock, m&p, CZ, Steyr, etc or even tp9sa.

      • ….comical! ….TP SA9 and Steyr are made in one of two of the very same plants. ….and Turkish handguns have had far fewer issues than Walther or HK of late. …please study, own and shoot these firearms before racing off in the land of la-la.

        • Many Turkish guns have ad issue with the metals not being the correct hardness or durability. I’ve seen many deformed/peened parts after only a dozen rounds, both pistols and shotguns.

        • I agree. My latest is a SAR 9X with a ported slide. I own or have owned nearly every worthwhile polymer striker fired 9 out there. The SAR9 trigger is not gritty and it’s safety is butter smooth. NIB safety is a little tight but if you work it back and forth a few times it smooths right out. It is flawless and smooth in operation, well made, easy to shoot and hit accurately with. I will take this gun over any Glock or Steyr I ever owned and fired all day long. Many gun writers have bias for or against certain guns, just like anyone else. I can write a book on the ignorant and inaccurate reviews I have seen famous gun writers have put on line. Example: some have called the Hungarian FEG P9 a “Knock off” or “clone” of the Browning HP P35. Actually in the early 1970s FN/Browning gave FEG a license to build the HP and sold them the entire production machinery from the Belgian factory! The quality of the FEG P9 always matched FN quality and finish and was usually superior at that. Ever heard of the Charles Daley HP? The parts were imported from FEG and assembled by Dan Wesson. Many upgrades like larger safeties and improved sights were made by FEG to upgrade those pistols. FEG made exact first and second models of the HP that were sold on military contracts worldwide! Plus- later on made upgrades of their own like ramped slides and fully adjustable sights. and new versions like the P9R which is like a cross between a HP and S&W 59. I think if more gun writers did a better job of researching the data of guns and spending good research time on the range getting totally familiar with a new gun, they might get a better idea of the weapon and it’s actual performance capabilities. Data free gun reviews are only first impression opinions in my book… I am not accusing this writer of anything sloppy, but I doubt an hour or so and a few mags of low grade Blazer or other funky ammo choices will tell you anything accurately. Just my opinion.

      • Do you own one? Have you shot one? Mine has none of the issues mentioned in the article. It’s simply awesome in every way. My G19 sits locked away, this is my go to.

        • Yep, have the SAR 9 also. I couldn’t be happier. Great firearm for great value. Accurate, reliable and 17+1 capacity!

    • I’ve shot more than 2700 rounds of every brand and type. Misfires zero. Issues None. I think I might have to clean it though.

Construction. Since I have shot pass the 1000 rounds I thought the gun was worth the investment and decided to upgrade the sights.

I spent 2 days hammering the front sight (too lazy to read instructions). Installed them and went on to shoot 1,700 more rounds.

I have never owned a product that has been so harshly treated and did not even wink.

Is it a winner? You betcha. This thing will not die or quit on you.

I have two days of hammering, plier pushing, ammo testing 2,700 rounds, dropping, water submerging, and no misfires. But, at this point should clean it.

Looks: Killer, best damn looking gun around. Any glock looks like a dummy vanilla toy beside it. It says: I will shoot the fk out of you whenever wherever. No doubts

The Sar 9 like most out of the box firearms can leave you wondering why you bought it. It requires tweaking to feel right and run right. First it needs proper cleaning and lubricating with a quality lube. if you don’t have compressed air for routine firearm maintenance head to Harbor Frieght and purchase an inexpensive pancake style, etc.
      .
The usual Glock tweaks work however the current production Sar 9 that I purchased came with mags having 17 witness holes. The trigger on the one I purchased is not so great. It sticks when pulled and when it un-sticks the trigger takes off and slows short of the wall. Main trigger problem is the hefty striker spring. Simply replace the spring with a slightly shorter large frame GlocK Spring or one with less tension. Use a caliper to compare spring measurements, coil and wire diameters, etc. If you do not own a caliper hold your nose and head to eBay and purchase one. Clean the striker bore and lube lightly with Slip 2000, etc. The trigger should now feel more like a revolver with no initial sticking. Unlike TTAG review the firearm I have is tight, accurate with zero failure to fire and does not wobble..

The Sar 9 recoil spring is a combo steel and plastic setup with enough tension to handle Plus P Ammo. Trying to rack the slide out of the box can leave the skin of those with dainty hands in the slide serrations. A Gen 4 Glock 17 recoil spring assembly is rumored to work in the Sar 9. The slide can be held open for a week or more which may help tame the Sar spring a bit..

Thumbs up for the external safety. It’s not a safety you can engage with your thumb but you can disengage it quickly with your thumb.. Overall the firearm is a bargain. It is well built, reliable and in time it should have aftermarket support. Sarsilmaz has a US based facility. The company has been around since 1880 so they must be doing something right. Online price range 10/9/2020 is around $330.00 plus, ship and FFL. If you are a DIYer and looking to save money you can have what some say is better than a Glock.

      • The review had me scratching my head. Front sight “sperm”? On mine it’s a perfectly round dot.
I got mine for less than $360. Accurate? You bet. To rack it is work, but with more rounds through it and leave it locked open for a bit, it should be more agreeable. I like the longer barrel and find the recoil excellent, very controllable.
Me thinks the reviewer might have gotten an “outlier”. I have two other friends at the range that love theirs with no complaints. I can take the safety off easily.

  2. I have never fired a Sar. But it sure gets a lot of love on FB. It’s a no go for me supporting a Muslim dictatorship…

    • There’s always someone out there whose mission in life is to throw a wrench in the spokes. Such puritans should first consider the origins of the items they own that are in and around their home that makes them a hypocrite.
If the Pentagon is OK with purchasing from Salsilmaz and Salsilmaz having a US based facility that’s good enough. Hopefully all Turkish people don’t see Made In the USA as something to avoid.

      • For me, country of origin is always a consideration. No one is hating on the people of Turkey and to assume this shows more about the commenter than the one he’s commenting on. Truth be known, I didn’t know that the SAR9 was made in Turkey, my bad. If I had, I too wouldn’t have purchased it. I simply don’t support enemies of the US if I can get away with it (China). As far as U.S. importer distribution being a game changer, I don’t understand what this has to do with the “price of eggs”. 🙂
I love your reviews, keep up the good work.

    • Careful there. A ”muslim dictatorship” makes zero guns, last I checked. Turkey elects their leaders too. Turkey is a major member of NATO and buys lots of hardware from the US an anti-Christian county which Turkey is not. I actually know of some Turkish Christians in Turkey. Turkey removed muslim loons in 1919 when they kicked out the Ottoman Turks and declared their government support of religions but no religious activities allowed in government. It is in their constitution. They also have better relations with Israel than Iran, Syria and Pakistan.

  3. Looks like they even copied HK’s grip inserts. I wonder if that’s a patent infringement (I think HK has a patent for the grip). For that price of $449, why wouldn’t you just get a Glock or a VP9?

    • There is so many ignorant gullible Americans lose in society this is a fact…
Turkiye is NATO ally country .Make sure you write somewhere corner into your little brain ( Remember Cuba crisis, Korean war, Incirlik air base..)
Some nations cannot digest that Turkish economy getting stronger every day Lockheed Martin has plant in Turkiye making YES all the JSF planes and satellite defense systems as well as other projects
Some of your narrow-minded comments will not tackle it down Turkish goals.
For the Turkish guns, they are the BEST guns and seriously treat the major brand name guns in the market. Customers look three things price, dependable and accuracy and all the Turkish guns offer more than that.
So if you looking all the quality you should NOT buy just try out these guns then you will understand and make decisions whatever fits you best.

      • I have several SARs and I can’t wait to trade or sell them. Only one of them is worth what I paid. Junk.

        • I’ll buy em. I’ve loved every Sar I’ve ever owned. It’s also fun to watch the “turk shit” guns outperform the idiot redneck’s Glocks, Rugers, SW, etc. idiots will be idiots. biased based on what they assume to be popular opinion. A real MSM mentality.

      • Turks have always been contenders. You must at the very least respect contenders. I’m buying a SAR in a couple of moments. I remember Colt selling their older equipment to the Philippines. They make a heckuva 1911 for a decent price point. Why would you not buy well made affordable pistols? Vanity? The grip module reminds me of HK VP9 how about you? Oh, a safety on a sticker fired, hmm is that a bad idea or just a way to fulfill reqs? Oh the safety needs a 727 to budge it. How about flicking it on/off a few hundred times. Did the same with my Mossberg, they break in nice. How many folks never fire a thousand rounds through their pistols? They just begin to break in at that count. Guns don’t wear out too fast, certainly not at 500 or a 1000 rds. They control and contain explosions with tens of thousands of pounds of pressure. Would you think more highly if the price were double? Probably, just farting in the wind here.

    • These guns are selling under 400 dollars some places for 330 dollars watched someone use one at a match and was not disappointed in the performance and I prefer a manual safety on a firearm review said it was hard to manipulate but may need oiled and worked to loosen up

    • …..because these firearms will shoot circles around a Glock and are better made than the VP 9! I have (98) handguns. Ranging from $229.00 CZ 82’s to $5,000 Custom 1911’s. Carried a Glock for (26) years in uniform and taught another 6,000 as a instructor. This firearm which I own one is nothing less than spectacular! Glock’s. Which I’ve been around many. Have had many catastrophic failures and issues. Fan-boys make this info near impossible to get out to the public. HK (like SIG) have had a plentiful issues from sights flying off to the 9mm being under-sprung. As a matter of fact. HK has recommended to many customers to find a 40 cal. spring and install it! I have approx. (5) Turkish handguns and almost all will shoot circles around their clones. So….before you opine on ignorance on a particular handgun or manufacture…..know the product and the history. For example. All Turkish handguns have barrels made in the world’s oldest barrel manufacturing plant. In the 1700’s they were making cannons. And now….they produce all cold hammered forged barrels! Also……all Turkish handguns leave their respective plants 2X exceeding NATO standards on handgun performance. Not once. No matching. Twice exceeding! I’ll shoot pistol for pistol against anybody with any firearm!

      • Thanks for expert opinion! I’ve always been a Glock guy and just yesterday I purchased a SAR9 for $287. Got home, started target shooting and this weapon blew my mind! Hoping it’s durable!

      • Careful my friend, you may cause some strokes with all these facts. Tis true…LOL! Fan boys who shoot 50 rounds a year out of their Glocks and wobbly Steyrs are the true expetrs here, just ask them….

    • ……because it’s more accurate and reliable than a HK and has better ergonomics (and same points as previously mentioned) than a Glock! …….this sidearm (in my humble opinion) is more CZ (P-10) and anything. …….when I shoot IDPA (or practice) my P-10’s and then I pick up the SAR-9……do difference in ergo or shot placement. …….don’t knock till you’ve ran one. …….way ahead of it’s price point. ……and this is coming from a man with (26) years in multiple uniforms, firearms instructor certified and a firearms collection that exceeds $200,000.

  4. “Federal law requires certain safety features on imported handguns. To satisfy these requirements, Turkey’s sole official supplier to the police and military slapped a safety on an otherwise striker fired-only handgun with the expectation that no one would ever actually flip it on.”

It seems like every other manufacture doesn’t need to add an extra safety. The trigger tab should satisfy that requirement.

    • That “trigger tab” (there is a correct word for it but it slips my mind) is not a safety and never should be relied on as a safety.
Objects that can pull the trigger while the firearm is in motion or vice versa can cause a discharge. I. E. Going through thickets can engage the trigger, shoving the firearm between a carseat and console can discharge the firearm, shoving the firearm down your Wranglers can cause a discharge. All sorts of ways for such firearms to go bang with no help from your finger.
To carry Glocks safely get a good holster or purchase one of those plugs that can be inserted behind the trigger and if need be removed quicker that most safeties can be released.

    • ….comical. …..if you knew half as much as you think you do…..then you’d know that PPQ are absolute JUNK! …they (Walther) use a (2) pc barrel where the chamber is a MIM’d part! …..MIM’d components are a safety issue and can shatter like glass! ….take a MIM’d slide stop and a forged. ….lay them on a Anvil and hit them both with a hammer. ….you’ll see your Walther crap fly everywhere. ….and I won’t bother to mention barrel axis, ergonomics, or the fact that all Turkish handgun barrels are made in the world’s oldest barrel (1700’s where they made cannon’s) manufacturing plant on the planet. …all cold hammered forged and have a 50,000 rnd (+) count. …..they are by most accounts……far superior to western made firearms.

        • …..nope. …..I have over (100) handguns and have been using them for work since 1985. ……regardless of price or where they are manufactured I run the ones I’m interested in through my gauntlet. ……and when I see a superior piece I call it for what it is. …..study up.
…stop believing all these weekend warriors which most have no professional experience and have been bought and paid for by the ones who advertise alot.

    • Turkish police dumped the PPQ for the 20,000 Canick TP9SA, a much better pistol that fired 60,000 rounds without a misfire. Learn something before you shoot off.

  5. Kinda dirty pool comparing street price to msrp – though the Remy does have a $100 rebate. CDNN sells the SARGUN for the same money as the RP9 pre-rebate. Bummer about the QC on this one though. I have K2-45 and an ST-10 and they are both flawless. But a safety that isn’t unconscious to operate is a nonstarter.

  6. I have looked at the SAR product line for a while. There bp6 line looks better than some of there other products, but that’s a low bar. When handling they just feel off compared to many other guns.

Frankly if I am buying a Turkish handgun I will get something from Canik. I own a tp9 any have fired several of their Cz clones. All are solid guns a decent prices.

    • ….ordering a SAR 9 tonight! ….these Turkish handguns are far superior than most western firearms manufactures. …..and this is coming from a (26) year uniform professional and prior Firearms Instructor for the State of GA. ……the influence is far more CZ than HK. …just look at the barrel axis. …not to mention their prior Military firearm was a CZ-75 clone. ….they are (and so am I) huge CZ fans. ……but I’m going to let someone’s narrow minded review deter me.

      • Allright allright shut up already ! I’ll put my GLOCK19 up against your turkey junk anyday. Those SAR9s are cheap throw away junk guns. For gosh sakes go read a review man.

        • …..well Mama’s boy. …….I’ve carried many of Glocks in my day. …..Primarily the 22 and 27…..but atleast (20) of my years. ……trained and Certified another 6,000 in the state of GA. …….and seen many of the 22’s come apart! …….the SAR has substantially better ergonomics, sight picture and trigger. ……top that off with a weapon that twice exceeds NATO standards! ……cold hammered barrel and a removable S.S. melonited chassis. ……please. …..no frame wrap like your black brick. …….so when you’ve had as much trigger time with as many weapons that I’ve had in my profession…..come talk to me hero.

    • I HAVE A TRI-STAR CANIK-55 9MM.MAN IT’S A QUALITY PISTOL,FUNCTIONED FLAWLESSLY AT THE RANGE JUST A ALL A ROUND RELIABLE PISTOL.

  7. It’s interesting that the one you reviewed has a manual safety. In this month’s Firearms News (issue 25) there’s a full page ad for this handgun on the inside front cover – same specs and MSRP, this photo doesn’t show a safety.

I somewhat question the assertion that the thumb safety was required to meet import requirements. I bought a Girsan MC-28 last year around this time – striker-fired M&P Turkish clone, basically. It shoots great, and doesn’t have a thumb safety, either.

  8. If a ppq/vp9/m&p/glock had an orgy this is what you would get. Sars innovation seems to be copying every mainstream handgun made. Not saying that’s a bad thing, but I typically go for the real thing. I would like to see someone do a 5000 round review on this gun

  9. First of all the RP9 like its Remington predecessors, is a piece of junk.

Secondly, call me old-fashioned, but I cannot, in good conscience, buy a weapon made by a repressive, West-hating Islamic dictatorship whose leader envisions himself as the next Caliph of a revived Ottoman Empire.

There are too many guns made here in America and by our allies than to help finance our enemies.

    • This is a private company that has no affliation with the Government of Turkey…They do business with NATO Countries and that includes the USA…who has been buying off them for decades…do your homework

  10. The mis painting can happen to quality firearms as was my glock 26 when i got it….Sar makes some of the best firearms there is….I would put my Sar K2 45 against any 45 and that includes Sig as well. I also own a Sarsilmaz Mega 2000 (cz75 clone..which is of higher quality then the cz75) fit and finish are excellent…I would not rate a whole company on one firearm. Further those who are whing about it being a Muslim Country…This company is a Private company who has been in business since 1880 and does business with Nato Countries. The US Government buys from them as well….so get over yourselves!!

    • Don’t let these people rattle you l own a sar b6p compact cost 230 dollars under 260 dollars with tax and call in l also have a Springfield XDM 5.25 and a Walther ppq navy for the money spent l have absolutely no complaints about the sar remember old school gun guys didn’t like glock when they first hit the market now it’s the most popular with the most aftermarket support of any handgun I’m not a big glock fan but I’ve seen this sar9 well under 400 dollars and I’m liking it more and more like the manual safety also like the sar CM9 gen 2 9mm for under 350 dollars it’s similar to my RIA mapp TCM9r compact l like to be different rather lead than follow

  11. The political comments about Sar supporting terrorism are just ignorant, so I won’t go any further about it.
The super stiff safety thing seems common on Turkish guns for some reason. Get a little exercise and flip the thing on and off a hundred times and problem solved. A friend’s Tristar P-100 took about 200 flips to loosen up. The “sperm” on one of my guns, (Made in the USA, BTW) was resolved by taking my thumbnail and scraping off the “tail”. It took about 3 seconds. I haven’s shot a Sar 9, I’m kind of a hammer and TDA guy, but the one I dry fired seemed OK, like a lot of “split” or bladed triggers. Another thing I don’t like.

  12. Sounds like the writer had an axe to grind before he wrote the article. I own two Turkish-made handguns, a SAR B6P and a CM9 Gen 2, a Canik TP9SA, and a Tristar P-100, and I’d put them up against any other guns I own. Flimsy they are not. Cheap they are not. In fact, the fit and finish of the SAR barrels and inside of the slide are better than my Glocks, S&Ws, and Rugers. No, SAR doesn’t have the brand-name cachet of the big boys, but they shoot great and are reliable. Not to mention, they cost a fraction of what the big boys charge. Give up your Glock or H&K for a SAR? Probably not. But at least give these guns credit. I’ll add a SAR9 to my collection soon.

  13. Funny, Sweeney just gave it a glowing review in my latest Guns and Ammo. I’ve heard nothing but crap about the RP9.

  14. The Sar9 looks exactly like the Ruger American minus the finger grooves. Makes me say hmmmm. All these gun makers are copying each other.

  15. I own two Glocks. They both say Made in Austria on them. I assume this means they are imported, yet I can locate no frame safety on them. What gives?

  16. Ii have owned an SAR 9 for about 3 months. Paid $359 plus shipping, $376 out the door.
I really like the gun. It feels good, is very accurate, and has been 100% reliable at about 700 rounds. The trigger was a tiny bit gritty at first but that has smoothed out over time. Fit and finish on my gun was very nice. my only complaint was that one of the magazines didn’t drop free. I called the distributer and had a new one sent out free of charge within a week. However my favorite part of the gun is it’s soft recoil. I’m getting up there in years and notice things like this more and more. I really recommend it!

  17. Have had mine for 2 months. Only been able to shoot about 150 rounds so far. But the trigger is smooth, the accuracy excellent, and function, flawless. I don’t know where the other issues are coming from with his SAR. Also, most issues with this pistol have been attributed to user error.

  18. I own 5 different models (B6P, B6Pc, CM9, ST9, K2 45) of Sar pistols and every single one has been excellent. None have ever had any sort of failure and are exceptionally accurate. It is always amazing how inexpensive they are and how much they out perform my expensive pistols.

Since this is one of the Sar line I have not purchased yet, I do not have anything to add about this one and will not be as ignorant as most of the other posters that recommend buying something else in place without any experience. This is one of a few handguns to receive a NSN and it surpassed all the other big names in durability. Walthers, Remingtons, HK VP9 and the S&W M&P line could never even dream of receiving a NSN so touting those as superior is a reflection of ignorance.

  19. This overall rating is insane. When I saw one star I expected it to be dangerous to fire or nonfunctional half the time. Instead it shoots fine and functions fine, but the author disliked the fit and finish?

Dude. How do you weigh that one category more than actual function? It’s not rational.

  20. On some reviews on the Sar 9 they are saying the trigger pull is long and reset I’ve got one on January 10 -2019 couldn’t wait to shoot it on 1-19-19 went to the range with it put 350 rounds of 115 blazer brass and 50 115 federal hollow points through it it performed flawlessly no failures gun is accurate fun and comfortable to shoot while the trigger is not as good as my Walther PPQ in pull weight or as short in reset l found it to be fairly light with a decent reset guessing trigger pull weight at under 7 pounds probably 6 to 6.5 at most the reset seems fairly short to me it was dry fired with a snap cap 100 times and clean and oiled before range visit for 330 dollars out the door price with call in and tax it’s got to be one of the best guns on the market considering price I’m totally happy with it so far absolutely not one complaint about it competes with guns costing 100s more

    • ……for the record. …..the SAR 9 is not top heavy! …..the barrel axis and ergonomics dictates other. ……include to shoot, ergonomically friendly and robust like a 1911. …..I’m now in the process of adding a third to my collection to use in my “bug-out bag”. ….along with a collapsible AR. ……and the trigger is a absolute joy! …….nothing like the articles which have portrayed this handgun as a block with a gritty, rough trigger. …..its better than any aftermarket Glock trigger I’ve tried. …….dont be fooled. ….its a incredible robust handgun that deserves a serious look.

      • Agreed. My trigger is not gritty or wobbly, the low bore axis is great, the ergonomics the best of any gun I’ve ever shot, and more accurate than my Glock, Ruger, SA. Been dropped in mud, rinsed off in mud puddle and kept on shooting. It is my go to.

  21. What do you think of this SAR: SRM Arms
    SRM Arms SAR USA ST45 .45ACP Pistol 4.5″ Barrel – Stainless | 12rd

  22. The sar9 is a great gun for the money. I have owned glocks, rugers,s&w, sig ,colts and cz. The sar9 is right up there with my sig, m&p and cz. Its very accurate amd fits my hand a lot better than a glock. And very dependable. What a glock should be forwhat they charge

  23. I believe Nick Leghorn did a terrible job in writing his review. What he said about the SAR gun will undoubtedly turn some gun buyers off. I own a SAR 9mm and it is probably the best shooting pistol I ever owned.

I am not a gun expert and have only 80 years of shooting experience with 21 years in the Army. I put the SAR 9 right up there with the 1911 as my favorites. As long as guns are made by man they will not be perfect , and SAR is no exception ; It is among the best, however.

  24. Sounds like it was an effort just to review the weapon. I mean releasing the safety was just awful and apparently it carried over to rest of the gun. What the reviewer needed was a Do It For Me gun to review.
If the safety release is difficult it’s time to see if it can be fixed. If not proceed with the negative. Use a black marker to see if the probably accidental sperm mark goes away. If the trigger is gritty see if it can be turned to buttery smooth, etc.
Most people understand that out of the box means clean it, adjust it, lube it before shooting it. Try correcting what is generally expected from “out of the box” first before giving a good firearm a bad rap.

  25. I own a Sarsilmaz B6C. It’s a great gun and cost $200.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was hailed as a CZ copy (it’s definitely not a clone or copy) but for the money, you can’t touch it. I bought it thinking I could carry it but it’s too big for me to carry comfortably so it my night stand gun.

It has the “internal slide” which CZ is known for, but doesn’t seem to have any effect to reduce recoil. It also doesn’t allow for great purchase to make racking easy for weaker hands. Take down isn’t Glock style (why doesn’t everyone adopt it???) it requires removing a combination takedown pin/slide release which is difficult at first, but easier as the gun breaks in. The grip is comfortable, but has a “slick” surface (should have been stippled).

Those are the negatives, the rest is as good as it gets. Great accuracy with basic white dot sights. Holds 13+1 (unfortunately came with only 1 mag, but found that extended mags for Taurus PT111 fit and work perfectly for $20.00 each!!). Very easy to clean once removing the slide release. Decent trigger in single action. I have put way more than 1000 rounds through this thing (probably closer to 2000) including steel and reloads, JHP, FMJ, round nose, truncated, etc…and NOT 1 malfuntion!!! Seriously NOT 1!! Have never had to clear this gun once!! Holding and shooting this gun you’d never believe it was so inexpensive, especially in comparison to say a Taurus double stack in the same price range. Tolerances and engineering are way tighter than that (as I have owned one). Certainly not the perfect gun, (what is?) but for true “budget” gun, this is an unsung hero!

  26. I bought an SAR 9mm about two weeks ago and I have to agree regarding the Safety Lever. Initially it was difficult to engage and disengage due to the large amount of tension. I decided to repeatedly engage and disengage the Safety Lever, hoping it would ease the tension in the lever and it did just that. Now my Safety Lever engages and disengages much, much easier now.

  27. Thanks to those who have actually owned and shot the Sar 9 for your reviews. As a 60 year old grandma, I purchased a Sar 9 yesterday. The side safely was super easy to disengage. There was no sperm shaped sites, as described in the aforementioned “review” (loose terms). I’m excited to shoot some rounds through this solid, comfortable beauty.

  28. Sar usa sr9
No problem at all with the pistol. I just bought this pistol last Monday. I have put 1,500 rounds in it already. Every shoot felt great. I’m coming from a Glock 22 40 cal.. that I gave to my younger brother, due to that fact that this sr9 shoots a little bit better to me. That’s my opinion.

  29. Great gun if you have a little common sense it may be a very great gun even a thousand dollar gun take it from a guy that has some of the rarest pistols on this planet I even have in mypossession a. 45Craig

  30. Nick Leghorn needs to retire from writing gun reviews; his sense of humor is rarely funny anymore. And, it’s highly obvious he does not put in the requisite time with the guns he reviews to give any of them a fair shake. TTAG should take a page from the USA Carry reviews; Colonel Ben Findley over there does the most in-depth, accurate, and honest reviews of anyone in the great Blog forest. Take a hint, Foghorn. Quit while you’re ahead.

  31. Gear up as your favorite Delsin Rowe Vest. Slim Fit Leather Jackets brings this iconic jacket from animation to reality, especially for all the fans of this video game. Delsin Rowe is the main protagonist and playable character, a young Native-American man who later realizes he’s a Conduit with special powers.

  32. Turks are no fools when it comes to making weapons, uh and they’re NOT traitors to the USA. I bought an original B6p of which out of stock basically. 1 16 rnd. mag. an added 2 CZ75b 16 rnd. mags. This thing ROCKS! Any ammo no issues. Aim small shoot small. I blacked out the rear sight and oranged the front sight. Way low recoil, for my large hands perfect grip with cut out skate tape on either side of grip. Blackhawk makes an adaptable holster. Truth be told have replaced broken trigger re-set spring because of weak metal, not a problem as it is my best shooting weapon. Easier than most to shoot, accurate, comfortable to carry w leather holster.

  33. I call BS on this “review”. I’ve had my SAR-9 ST for about 6 mos (ie: stainless steel slide, to differentiate it from my all-black Springfield XD-M .40), and it’s been totally worth the ~$350 after tax and delivery that I spent to both buy and have it delivered to my nearest gun shop (the list price was $275 from Gunbroker). The minor gripes I had were the initial “out of the box” stiffness/tightness of the safety, slide/recoil spring, trigger grit, and magazine release button tightness – basically all of the moving parts/friction points that had tight factory tolerances (not a bad thing at all, IMO). After dry-firing, leaving the slide locked back, and lubing and systematically working all those moving parts they’re now simply just solid feeling and super confidence inspiring that they won’t break for a long time. This “review” took into account none of that break in process – pitiful…..

  34. I bought in all great reviews on this handgun I got my own SAR9T been big disappointment. The first thing I did when got home from gun store was take my SAR9T to my bedroom to field strip it. Yes read the manual how do that before try field stripping it. Here what happen after pull hard on take down levers witch require more force than what ever one else reviewing handgun has put up with they came right off the gun .It seem take down levers on SAR9T held in place buy polymer roll pin falls out the SAR9T witch disables the trigger if not put back in gun. So got polymer roll pin back in the gun levers back on gun pull down. So now come easy part make sure magazine out SAR9T pull slide back release it than pull trigger than slide should come right off gun. Well guess what the slide would come off frame after trying many times buy me and gun shop and gun smith work at the gun shop so I sent gun back SAR USA for repairs has even been shot. When get back I am selling for Glock 17 Gen 5 because Glock may not be perfect but they do not fall part when field strip they come part when field strip them.

  35. Want to keep you in the loop, this is the review if your company I will put in reviews on every web site I can find.

I bought a b6c from from dunhams 2 weeks ago today, after 50 rounds would not feed a round. Cleaned it oiled it same problem, most times can’t rack a round.

Almost 2 weeks trying to chase down customer support,. Only way to get some one in the phone is to connect to finance, the rest of them hide behind voicemail.

Finally got an email from someone named Felix, this morning he told me to return it (at my own expense), absolutely the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I have know have to pay at least $30.00 more for something that is brand new and should be able to function from the store. Not counting all the frustration and time wasted on this company.

From my initial 50 rounds I really liked it, after that as I mentioned failure to fee, ok stuff breqks but when it does break I expect the company to stand behind what they sell and to ANSWER THEIR DAMN PHONES. Their favorite excuse is they are busy. Which makes me wonder about the actual quality of what they sell.

My advice buy a cz-75 or a short barrell 1911 like a commander, little more expensive but no hassles if from bought from a reputable manufacture.

As for me, I will take it to a local gun smith to have it repaired(I hope). I no longer think this company will do right by me and extremely tired if chasing them down just to get an email. If it cost to much to fix I will give to the sheriff and buy a commander.

Btw I believe as a layman it is just bad machining that caused this issue.

  36. What a bad review. I have over 2000 rounds in my SAR 9. No issues at all Great shooting pistol.
Low recoil due to weight. Great in the hands gun. Comes with various straps but out of the box it fit perfectly. Even though it is slated for NATO it ate 115 no prob.
On draw, practice flipping down the safety is easy. Not a big deal at all. So stop being a wimp about it.

  37. about the safety, just fire a few hundred rounds through it and the safety disengages with ease, whoever wrote that about the safety doesn’t know anything about the gun! I got more to say if anybody wants to ask!
