I’m from Rhode Island. Let me tell you: there’s always a story behind the story. If you dig deep enough, facts emerge that cast doubt upon the journalist’s original take, as the “real story” emerges. For example, we’re still waiting for a full accounting of the Texas biker “massacre.” How many bikers did the cops kill? Also, what really happened at the Waldorf hotel after a gun owner “accidentally” discharged his .380 pocket pistol, injuring four guests? In fact, what happened before the incident? I’d like to know . . .

how Vladimir Gotlibovsky got a concealed carry permit in a city where carry permits are as rare as hen’s teeth. The New York Post reports that

Vladimir had a carry permit that allowed him to bring the gun to residences and businesses and carried it for protection because he owns a liquor shop in The Bronx, law-enforcement sources said.

How did a Bronx liquor store owner get a concealed carry permit – for a .45 caliber GLOCK as well as his .380 pocket pistol – when Fox News journalist John Stossel could not? What’s the bet there’s more than a hint of corruption attached to this case? Check this out from a more recent Post story. . .

Two brothers who were arrested in a shooting at the Waldorf Astoria hotel over the weekend caught a lucky break Sunday.

Vladimir Gotlibovsky, 42, and his brother Felix, 51, were arrested by police when Vladimir accidentally shot off a round during a fancy wedding party at the Park Avenue hotel and their family snuck the gun back to Brooklyn, authorities said.

But the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office later said it would be “deferring” prosecution on the raps, at least for now.

“Prosecution of this case is deferred while the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding the discharge of the firearm and its removal from the scene,” said spokesman Patrick Muncie.

“The person believed to have discharged the weapon has a permit authorizing him to possess and carry it.”

What are the odds a “normal” concealed carrier would get this kind of prosecutorial break despite the fact that Gotlibovsky and his brother and his mother conspired to hide the weapon from police? Especially considering that this is not the first time Gotlibovsky’s negligent discharge was ignored. Here’s the latest Post dispatch:

The wedding guest who accidentally shot a woman in the Waldorf Astoria put a bullet in his own foot on Christmas Eve in another klutzy move with a gun, sources told The Post on Monday.

Not-so-sharp shooter Vladimir Gotlibovsky, 42, thought a car was following him as he was driving to make a bank deposit for his liquor business, so he pulled over and took out his .380-caliber automatic from his pants pocket, sources said.

When the car drove off, he tried to put the gun back in his pants and it went off.

Cops seized that gun, as well as Gotlibovsky’s .45-caliber Glock, although he got his gun license back in March, sources said.

I don’t believe ANY of this. My only guess: Gotlibovsky is an informant. Or a man connected to some VERY important people through his pals back in the, back in the, back in the U.S.S.R. What’s your take?

  1. Was wondering also how Russian Jewish immigrants were immediately eligible for social security benefits when they arrived in the US and never having worked a day in the US? Yes, lots of questions..

  2. Why didn’t Plaxico Burress merit the same treatment?

Plax didn’t have a New York City license for his gun, so he was toting illegally. In Plax’s defense, all he did with the gun that Friday night was drop it, which exactly what he did with a football on Sundays.

  3. And this is why ATFE is needed to enforce laws the liberals refuse to enforce. Kind of like why we need illegal alien felons.

  4. A friendly check of the current mayors election committee donations usually explains these things.

Like I’d said previously-if he’s got the juice for a NYC carry permit, he’s also got the juice to beat the rap for the ND.

  5. I smell a BIG FAT NYC RAT!!!

“Someone” got word to the NYPD, the DA, and made them an offer they can’t refuse.

Russian Mafia? Kickbacks? Corruption? Political Cronyism?

    Impossible!

Normal peasant citizens even with a NY CCWP would be put under the jail in NYC, charged with at least 3 felonies, house searched, bank accounts seized, family harassed, and facing $$$$$$ legal defense costs.

Oh, there is no KGB or Mafia angle to this, and all my guns were lost in a terrible boating accident last week.

  6. It’s not ‘Rocket Science’. He who has the money has the ability to buy what they want. Guns, Drugs, PEOPLE.
NYC is open for business. Walmart…take notes !!

    • That’s my best guess Grindstone. I’ve known a few questionable characters in the Chicago antique dealer world too. Best not to cross them. THIS story arc stinks…

  7. What a crock!. No it’s not hard to figure out. Other people who get told no, whose lives and safety are JUST as important to themselves as that Ruskies, are left wondering what ever happened to OUR rights?

So you gun grabbers don’t need to pour on that stupid, butt-hurt look and proclaim your proposals are “reasonable and common sense” because gun owners and 2nd A advocates take a very VERY firm stance on our gun rights and will fight tooth and nail for those rights.

Bloombag, Obama, Shannon Watts, Diane Feinstein, Gabrielle Giffords and Space Cadet husband and the rest can just eat sh–!

  8. I have often heard the rationalization of “may issue” pistol permits as “The police know who the bad people are, even if they have managed to avoid getting caught and have a clean record. The cops have to have discretion on who gets a pistol permit.”

About a dozen of the hoodlums and mobsters rounded up at the Apalachin, NY “crime convention” were holders of pistol permits. The host, Joe (The Barber) Barbara, had a character reference written by a local chief of police as part of the application for his permit.
Corrupt police are only too willing to arm their “business partners”(for a price). They are not so willing to “permit” those citizens (who employ them) to be armed. They consider that to be their exclusive right, to be shared with no common citizens, but only their “friends”.

All that “may issue” permit laws do is encourage police corruption by increasing police powers.

“Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

  9. I know a few people that are well off and couldnt buy a carry permit in NYC. The only thing that would make sense here is he is an informant. Needs protection and is being protected by his masters.

  10. He tried to put the gun back in his pants and it went off; Gotlibovsky’s .45-caliber Glock. Did we just have a thread on this topic?

  11. “What’s your take?”

    He’s likely connected.

    Welcome to New York City.

And if those who were injured by him knew what was good for them they should just forget about the whole thing…

The Russian Mob makes the Sicilian Mob look like choir boys.

    • no – the politicians probably come to visit him at home. I hear his mom is a good cook and makes it just like back in the old country.

  12. I’ve never seen it reported. Perhaps I missed it. But exactly whose wedding was it for whom the reception was being held? My first thought upon reading that there was an ND at a reception in the Waldorf-Astoria was that it had to be either a big-wig or a big-wig’s bodyguard to have been invited to the reception in the first place. Whose reception?

      • “After the gun fired, Vladimir panicked and slipped the gun to his brother, Felix, 51, … ”

        Illegal transfer and illegal possession number #1 under New York Law;

“… who turned it over to their mother, sources said.”

Illegal transfer #2 and illegal possession #2.

She stashed the weapon, for which Vladimir has a permit, inside her purse, … ”

Vladimir’s permit does nothing for her illegally concealing the weapon.

“… then handed it to off to his wife, Maya, … ”

Yet another illegal transfer and illegal possession charge. And all four should have been charge with tampering with and illegally concealing evidence. But of course ordinary laws don’t apply to people rich and powerful enough to be attending million dollar-plus wedding receptions. It’s New York City so they had to be Democrats; I wonder what the bride’s and groom’s families do.

  13. He’s just rich as %$&@. The liberals hate guns, but they hate large sums of cash in Manila envelopes less.

    • No, rich Liberals don’t hate guns. You can see this by the number of rich Liberals who own guns, have almost as scarce as unicorns gun carry permits, or are surrounded by bodyguards armed with guns. Rich Liberals hate the idea of *ordinary* people owning guns, of *ordinary* people having the means of defending themselves without being dependent upon the intervention of the rich, powerful Liberals. Rich Liberals like guns but only so long as those guns are restricted to rich Liberals.

  14. A single round of .380 that injured four people? Somebody get a box of whatever that ammo is to ShootingTheBull410, ASAP!

  15. When you are a well connected white person you can get what you need. All the people reported by the press who have a CCW permit in New York City are white. John Stossle is not well connected. Just say’n.
