Just in time for the NRA Annual Meeting, Ruger’s announced the new concealed carry-focused Security-9 Compact pistol (read Jeremy’s review of the full size model here). It packs 10+1 rounds (15+1 with an extended magazine) has drift-adjustable sights and MSRPs for an affordable $379. Here’s Ruger’s press release . . .

Ruger Introduces New Security-9 Compact Pistol

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE-RGR) is proud to introduce a new, compact version of the popular Security-9® pistol. Smaller, lighter and more concealable than its full-size counterpart, the Security-9 Compact is ideal for everyday carry with an overall length of 6.5” and weighing in at just under 22 ounces. The attractive price point of both the full-size and compact models will have you wanting one of each.

The Security-9 Compact ships with two, 9mm Luger, 10-round, flush-fit steel magazines, which provide for greater concealability. Also included is one finger grip extension floorplate for added control. Extended, 15-round magazines are also available for purchase at ShopRuger.com.

The Security-9 family shares the same Secure Action used in the LCP® II, which is derived from the reliable and proven hammer-fired LCP fire control system. The Secure Action combines the smooth trigger pull of the LCP with the short, crisp feel and positive reset of a single-action. Additional safety features include an integrated trigger safety; external manual safety; neutrally balanced sear with significant engagement and strong spring tension; and hammer catch to help prevent the hammer from contacting the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled.

The American-made Security-9 Compact is constructed around a rigid, precision-machined, hard-coat anodized aluminum chassis with full-length guide rails and a blued, through-hardened alloy steel slide and barrel. Identical to the full-size model, this pistol also features eye-catching sights, a textured grip frame and an easy-to-rack slide.

  1. Direct competition for the Sig 365. And it may have all the bells and whistles to be California legal if the microstamping law ever goes away.

    • It is actually more like “single & a half” action. The slide action half-cocks the hammer, and the trigger pull finishes it.

The end result is a strong hammer strike with a short, light trigger pull. Unlike a conventional hammer, it can’t be accidentally fired by dropping or smacking it.

      • Well yeah, that’s what most of the strikers do as well. Better than DAO but crap compared to SA.

    • Interesting to note that Ruger offers an adapter to use the magazines from the larger Security 9. That means you can have a 6.5″ pocket pistol with a 15+1 capacity.

      • True, but I already have a 6.85 inch Ruger compact pistol that accepts a 17-round magazine with adaptor, plus a stainless steel slide and barrel. My SR9c.

This gun would seem to be a downgrade in my opinion.

      • Safety would be only thing keeping me from buying one, take it away and I am interested. Have LCP2 and P365, this would be good also as carry gun without a safety.

    • It’s odd they don’t “allow” citizens to buy those pistols because of “safety” concerns, yet the state has no problem with cops possessing them.

      • Not really sure what you mean? Were you considering becoming an officer so you to could carry or purchase a cool pistol? Were you whining about the officers that put their own lives on the line to protect those same people that whine about them? I would truly love for folks that talk trash to shut up, stand up, walk a beat, answer the calls, get called names, clean the spit and blood off their uniforms so they can do it all again tomorrow just because you want to make a difference! It’s not that I can and you can’t, It’s that I will and you won’t!

        • Hey crybaby

His comment was that California law treats it’s handgun registry as a “product safety” issue. California is basically saying that these guns (most handguns now) are “faulty products”. They are UNSAFE for use.

If that were truly the case, then cops shouldn’t use them either. After all, we don’t want police officers to be injured by UNSAFE products.

Of course that really isn’t the real issue. The elitists that run California really just want to disarm the residents of the state. You seem to support that effort.

Lollipops and fancy pants for you apparently

  2. $379.00 @ Ruger.com. Most likely cheaper as time goes by. May have to give this one a try after I see some more reviews and videos. At that price it certainly could make for another CCW piece. Always had good luck with Ruger firearms.

    • I got the “full size” Security 9 on sale for $279. So yeah, you will probably see these around that level too.

  3. I like the 10\15 capacity. Gives people in states with BS laws a chance to buy one… and I’m sure it’s not hard to drive an hour and go pick one up across state lines if they feel frisky.

  4. Sig, HK, CZ, and others still offer DA/SA carry pistols with decockers and no safety.

Why does Ruger no longer offer DA/SA in calibers besides .22?

    WHY, RUGER?

  5. I want to know what happened to the SR9c? It was supposed to have a great trigger that got even better with use. Now it’s not even listed on their website anymore.

    • They discontinued making it Random. Seems they’ve switched gears and put their eggs in the Ruger American Pistol basket.

  6. Your data is wrong.. I have the standard Ruger Security 9 pistol model #3810.. They come with (2) 15 Rnd magazines in 9mm … The model 3811 is the one that comes with (2) 10 Rnd magazines. (a CA compliant version under the ever changing magazine size in CA)

  7. Market is now flooded with nice little Blasters to be found very inexpensively.

    Well, here’s another one.

Great time for gun shoppers now, I hope it never ends…

  8. one of many fine pieces of art work not allowed in CaliFOREIGNia due to ignorance..
    all because of MICRO-STAMPING..
