Jeb Lund (courtesy adweek.com)

Rolling Stone writer Jeb Lund [above] blames Republicans for the Charleston church shooting. His editorial is a bilefest draped in sarcasm, to the point of semi-coherency. Like this: “This [crime] is political because American movement conservatism has already made these kinds of killings political. The Republican Party has weaponized its supporters, made violence a virtue and, with almost every pronouncement for 50 years, given them an enemy politicized, racialized and indivisible. We can’t afford to allow political discussions of these events, because if we do, we might notice what’s already there, wracking the body politic like gangrene.” And what’s “there,” behind door Number One? Gun-toting ghouls . . .

Movement conservatives have fetishized a tendentious and ahistorical reading of the Second Amendment to the point that the Constitution itself somehow paradoxically “legitimizes” an armed insurrection against the government created by it. Those leading said insurrection are swaddled by the blanket exculpation of patriotism. At the same time, they have synonymized the Democratic Party with illegitimacy and abuse of the American order. This is no longer an argument about whether one party’s beliefs are beneficial or harmful, but an attitude that labels leftism so antithetical to the American idea that empowering it on any level is an act of usurpation. Leftism no longer constitutes a debatable misuse of American power, but theft and governmental overreach.

In other words, a 1995 article by a Gary Willis “proves” that the Second Amendment doesn’t protect Americans’ individual right to keep and bear arms – a contention struck down by common sense and the Supreme Court (twice). Conservative/Republican Americans availing themselves of this natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right are insurrectionists who view the Democrat Party as fair game. More specifically. . .

And nothing — nothing — emphasizes that [government] overreach and theft like black people. Mendacious twit and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley issued a statement saying, “We do know that we’ll never understand what motivates anyone to enter one of our places of worship and take the life of another,” but to riddle it out all she needed to do was go outside and look up at the traitorous rag borne by Confederate armies and raiding parties and rapists and murderers that flaps outside the capitol as if to say, “Enact change at your own risk.”

Like the rest of his left-leaning colleagues, in the aftermath of Roof’s racist attack, Lund has seized on South Carolina’s Confederate flag-flying as a symbol of Republican racism. This despite the fact that the Democrat Party was responsible for the South’s post-slavery racist political infrastructure. (Lest we forget, the Great Emancipator, Abraham Lincoln, was a Republican.)

We’re deep into SMH territory here. It gets worse, though. Lund retreads the meme that [white] Republicans are racists because they oppose Barack Obama, a black American, and the welfare state.

. . . plain and simple, when Barack Obama stole the country from its rightful stewards, it was black Americans who did it. But he needn’t have bothered. Obama merely confirmed an extant narrative that equated all vaguely left-leaning government action with mass redistribution to a parasitic black population on the road to American collapse.

Lund equates the right’s faith in limited government, free market capitalism, liberty and personal responsibility with a desire to enslave African-Americans. He reckons Republicans have armed whites with hatred and firearms. Roof’s attack was the logical result of that “strategy.” Lund’s rant descends into . . . wait for it . . . a racist screed.

The enemy is one entity now. Black people are the engine of the Democratic Party, which is the engine of bad government, which is the engine of illegitimate oppression. They are part of a vast national criminal enterprise — against which our founders gave us a special amendment as a lethal and liberating tool. To kill them is an act of rebellion, the hunting down of the criminal and the freeing of yourself and the just.

In his pursuit of Republican demonization, Lund is channeling white supremacists. Huh. But make no mistake: Lund is not alone in his attempt to portray the defenders of liberty as the enemies of liberty. Here’s his sarcastic conclusion:

Most of all, do not under any circumstances politicize this moment, because you might risk discovering how much it could echo 50 years of the violently anti-government racialized rhetoric of a Republican Party piggybacking on 150 years of Southern white resentment. Because that would mean at least two weeks of everyone laboriously having to explain to you what a horrible, misleadingly coincidental thing Dylann Roof’s alleged acts were. You’ll want that explanation to seem fresh when the next coincidence happens. And the next. And the next.

Or you’ll want a gun to defend yourself, so that the next atrocity is met with the resistance it requires. Whether you’re black, white, Hispanic, Christian, Muslim, conservative, liberal, gay, straight, old or young. And while you’re considering this, remember that American gun control began life as a Democrat agenda to disarm freed slaves. And that’s the truth.

  1. Seriously?

Does anyone take this rag seriously any more? It has become obvious even on the left that this birdcage liner doesn’t have much more journalistic integrity than the National Enquirer.

    • Sadly, yes … the 50% of the country that has been brainwashed by progressive liberalism takes it very seriously.

      That’s the whole problem.

      • I question that figure of 50%. There was 76 milliion voter turnout in the 2014 election and Rolling Stone Circulation was 1.45 million. That would be 2% of voters, if only voters subscribed to Rolling Stone.

I think Lund’s piece is more a frantic clawing to grasp at an imagined demographic of self/assisted deluded hateful gun revilers. The piece is more a representation of the projection of their own bigotry and “ahistorical” world view. It is a tragic and embarrassing fantasy piece.

Looking at the psaresearch.com list of top 100 magazines by circulation American Rifleman at 42nd (1.79 million subscribers) beats out Rolling Stone at 57th (1.45 million subscribers) , actually I am surprised that Rolling Stone still has a circulation that high.

I think this sums up the situation for Rolling Stone magazine.

“From 2000 to 2014, the magazine’s circulation dropped from 101,651 to 41,429 and stayed above 40,000 this year only by giving away 1,976 copies.”

        http://www.psaresearch.com/images/TOPMAGAZINES.pdf

    • The publishers of Rolling Stone seem intent on becoming known as the dead tree version of the Huffington Post.

    • I never thought much of Rolling Stone until they had that terrorist on their cover… then I thought of them as grade A scum. They have now earned an A+ in my book.

    • I protest!!! That is an unjustified slander upon the publishers of The National Enquirer.

Isn’t this the same Rolling Stone that perpetrated the lie about the “frat rape culture” at the U of Va?

      • ‘s true.

National Enquirer broke the story about whatzisface, John Edwards having a love child while his wife had cancer.

Say what you like about the Enquirer, but they’ve proven they won’t cover for a Democrat. They have more integrity than most of the press, IMO.

Yes, the bar is set very low. Damn shame so many outfits can’t get over it.

  2. If anyone is responsible, it’s Obama/Holder and the enabling media who stoke the flames of racism every night on the news and the internet.

    • If the report I read was correct, the killer wanted to stoke more Trayvon-Ferguson-Baltimore style strife, and as we know, these are being ginned up by paid agitators flown around the country to each “incident”.

We really don’t need more hatred and division in this country right now, and this nasty little Rolling Stone POS is not helping.

    • And once again the MSM and the left immediately jump to the conclusion that because he was white and murdered black people he MUST be a republican. I doubt they will spend much effort trying to confirm this as fact and I also doubt they will print any retractions or corrections when it is found to not be true.

Also, help me out here, I can’t recall any time ever seeing the NRA or the Republican party or any other legitimate right-leaning organization promoting the idea that it is a good thing to just randomly shoot black people. Did I somehow miss that memo?

    • Rolling Stone used to be a music paper with some political thought thoughtful thought within.

Blaming this shooting on Holder et al is ridiculous. “They rape our women” is a very old racist fear.

      Don’t excuse this kid.

  3. I wonder if they would accuse “weaponized Muslims” of being responsible for Islamic violence in the same vein they accuse Americans.

  4. The use of every tragedy by every pundit to make their case minimizes the value of the lives lost. Turning the actions of broken people and the loss of life into a “See, I told you so!” does nothing to address real issues such as mental illness, social instability, addiction, racism, or violence. Passing a gun law is something SOME politicians CAN do… because taking a stand against inanimate objects is easier than working on REAL SOLUTIONS. Real solutions combat poverty, racism, extremism, and hate. Real solutions come from policy shifts and addressing causes, not singular laws. Real solutions are DIFFICULT and take TIME and COMMITMENT. Passing a law or turning a tool into an enemy that you take a stand against simply allows leaders to say they did something. Here’s a tip: When we are sandbagging to save a town from a flood, don’t take a stand against flooding or pass laws blaming water or bake us brownies. Grab a shovel and some bags and get to work.

  5. “At the same time, they have synonymized the Democratic Party with illegitimacy and abuse of the American order. This is no longer an argument about whether one party’s beliefs are beneficial or harmful, but an attitude that labels leftism so antithetical to the American idea that empowering it on any level is an act of usurpation. Leftism no longer constitutes a debatable misuse of American power, but theft and governmental overreach.”

He got that right at least

    • I think it’s funny how he dings the GOP for demonizing Democrats, then goes on to demonize the GOP in the worst possible terms. I just checked the mirror to see if there are horns growing out of my head. Nope–all clear.

      • I couldn’t find any horns growing out of me either. Just antlers. It looks like I will end up with a nice 10 point set this year. It is hell on hats, but I guess you can’t win ’em all.

        • I’m a white Independent Constitutuonal Consetvative, with no naughty interests in Shannon. You’re welcome in my home anytime. RF, Dr Vino, JWM, and Tom in Oregon have my info. Got a cold beer or scotch for you and a great spot for a bonfire.

      • I guess you didn’t get the memo. The Republic died in 1865 at the hands of a Republican president who usurped through force of arms the sovereignty of the states in favor of national unity. Which has its good points and bad–national unity has been good for American exceptionalism but bad for individual rights, and disastrous if you believe, as set forth int he Constitution, that the States and the people are the sovereigns, not the federal government. But this is kind of off topic.

    • I seem to recall that there were more “African-Americans” appointed to high positions in the GW Bush presidency than by Bill Clinton. But the Republicans are racists.

BHO has appointed a great many black americans to his government and as near as I can tell they are ALL racists.

      • actually, Barry Soetoro came under fire for how FEW Blacks he had in his administration. He only has 1 or 2 at a time. racist muslim

    • I’ll do you one more – I’m a brown Republican (more Independent these days). Every time I step up to the gun counter, I’m worried that someone is reporting my questions and conversation to the police. In TX, people have been pretty good about being friendly. I was more uncomfortable in Maryland.

  6. In the past few weeks I have been spending my weekends open carrying my Glock and handing out business cards for Georgia Carry when asked. Oddly, the only people who seemed interested at all were african americans. I have handed out at least 20 cards to both men and women who were very interested in learning about guns, gun rights, carry permits and training but had no idea where to start looking.

I suspect that this guy’s rant has a little bit to do with the changing mindset of the african american community towards guns than it does toward “traditional” gun owners or Republicans.

    • There is a real sea-change happening with black attitude towards guns.

      A change in our favor.

I’m beginning to wonder if Progressives can sense it and are starting to freak out…

    • Plenty of Afro American people practice at the ranged I use in VA. Men and women. Younger and older. Interestingly very few older black men like it is still culturally proscribed but enough older black women that you can tell the difference.

  7. It is beyond time to refute the progressive canard that racism is a right-wing/conservative ideology.

For one, the most atrocious acts carried out in the name of racism have come from left-wing ideology. For another, most often, violently radical racist ideology is held by apolitical sociopaths – neither right nor left; at best, some confused, psychotic amalgam of both. Sociopaths gonna sociopath.

    • I seem to recall reading somewhere that in America the vast majority, by far, of political assassinations and assassination attempts have been committed by Democrats or communists, and all but one presidential assassination. I can’t remember which Republican president was killed by a Republican assassin, but I do recall that it was a personal animosity, not a political act.

Feel free to help me with the research on this, or refute it if you can.

      • I think you are right. One guy killed Cleveland (?) because he thought he deserved a political appointment and didn’t get one.

    • the only folk who have made issue of my race (reminding me I was Black as if I didn’t know) have been liberals.

      • The difference in a Liberal racist and a Conservative racist is, the Liberal says you have to act a certain way because you’re black. The Conservative says you acted a certain way because you are black.

The Liberal says you have to vote for a black candidate if you are black. The Conservative says you voted for a black candidate because you are black.

If you are black and you voted for a Republican, the Liberal says you betrayed your people. The Conservative says you are a smart person and a good American.

  8. Hit the link. Wish I hadn’t. The article, as well as the comments, are the same Progtard ramblings of, “It’s the Republicans’ fault, it’s always their fault, we’re so much smarter than them, why is no one listening to us?” blah blah blah.

    • One word of advice: Type the URL directly into the browser whenever possible when looking at something like this. No need to tell people who truly get their rocks off wishing for your horrible demise that you came from TTAG.

      Tom

  9. Is this the same magazine that gave Charles Manson and the surviving Boston Bomber front page rock star treatment? Physician heal thineself

  10. I honestly can’t tell if this guy is trying to be satirical or if he’s serious.
If he’s serious, I hope he’s an only child and can’t reproduce.
    Good grief.

    • Tom, have you noticed an air of desperation in the left the past year or so?

There’s the Prez stamping his feet and pitching a tantrum because he can’t have his way on Capitol Hill.

      It’s really giving him indigestion.

I kinda like it. It looks good on him…

Mr. President, have a few more gray hairs on us.

      You’ve earned it.

      *snicker*

    • Nobody has a clue about satire Tom-this doesn’t rise to the level of the lame ONION. Yeah PJ O’Rourke was great-40 freakin’ years ago…

  11. No you’re on the inclusive team that wants to save this country, from those that would try to hijack it using a divide an conquer approach. The side that isn’t spewing the vile narrative………. The team that’s working to preserve this countries constitution, not burn it to the ground. No you’re on the team of tradition and honor, and we have your six.

  12. “…the Constitution itself somehow paradoxically “legitimizes” an armed insurrection against the government created by it.”

Had to stop reading at this point and make the obvious comment –

The government was NOT created by the Constitution, the Constitution was created by THE PEOPLE in order to form a government. The Second Amendment was created by THE PEOPLE in order to protect themselves when the government they created forgot who was actually in charge.

  13. “Hey look at me! I know how to use thesaurus.com to put big words in my column! I am smarter than you so I have to be right!”

Seriously! I stopped reading it after the fifth grandiloquent word. If any Liberal can understand the language he used in that diatribe, why can’t they understand the 2nd Amendment?

    • That was my thought as well. Just using big words to say something incredibly stupid in an attempt to sound intelligent.

  14. Concord Bridge . . . . Bundy Ranch. I suppose the good Mr. Lund would claim that associating one with the other is tendentious and ahistorical. You can sense the desperation, fear and loathing in his words as he comes to grips with the undeniable fact that the “good guy with a gun” argument makes far more sense than the “gun-free zone” argument. The former gives Americans a fighting chance while the latter, as we find again and again, gives no chance at all. He knows this now. And he hates us for it.

  15. I had to look up Rolling Stone’s source that Roof had “Strong Conservative Beliefs”. It was a quote from his roommate. I wonder why they didn’t quote the source in the article and instead hide it behind a link??
““I never heard him say anything, but just he had that kind of Southern pride, I guess some would say. Strong conservative beliefs,” he said”

  16. Ghouls can’t wield guns, they’re just a few steps above a zombie on the undead turning chart. Perhaps if that ghoul were a ‘ghast’-level negative material plane native materialized on the Prime Material Plane and could drain XP levels then it possibly would have the proper hit dice level and intelligence to operate machinery like a gun or a flaming vorpal dildo. Obviously this article can’t be taken seriously if the author can’t even fact check basic stats, get real.

      • Hy, I’m from good old Italy.
Could be a paradise, but it’s not really working out that way lately!
And please, just don’t think you can defend yourself, your family and your property, not only here, but generally in Europe. You’d be jailed, prosecuted and condemned in a millisecond, with lots of nuts telling you that you’re a damned fascist.
        Strange enough, isn’t it?

  17. Does that guy actually believe that shit he wrote? I sure hope that was just hyperbole to earn a paycheck.

  18. I’m half ashamed to admit I USED to like Rolling Stone back when I was in college. Of course, I was young and dumb, PJ and Hunter were still contributing and for the most part they still stuck to music, which was much better then. But now that I’ve gotten more mature, reading screeds like this are a big reason I own guns – people like these are downright dangerous, much more so than the random sicko that shot up the church.

    Tom

    • I’ve heard it said along the lines that if you’re a Republican when you’re young you have no heart, and if you’re a Democrat when you’re old you have no brain.

        • It was referred to being communist.
If you’re not one at twenty, you’re cold hearted, if you’re still one at forty, you’re brainless.
I like that quote a lot!
It has a lot of truth in it.

  19. American gun control is still a Democrat agenda to disarm slaves, but now it’s slaves to the state, when you are FORCED to give 30% or more of the fruits of your work, what else can you call it than slavery?

  20. Damn, this will teach me to actually RTFA before making a throwaway comment when now that I read it, I have an awesome comment…

In other words, a 1995 article by a Gary Willis “proves” that the Second Amendment doesn’t protect Americans’ individual right to keep and bear arms –

    Whatchu talkin’ ’bout Willis?

  21. What’s that in his mouth? A pencil?

Playing fetch and returning an object like a good little pet, that he is. Good boy!

  22. Do people ACTUALLY read the Rolling Stone?

If Jeb Lund was actually a skilled and competent writer, he wouldn’t be writing for Rolling Stone.

  23. We came to this country to escape socialists policies and lies.
And yet, 35 years later, the same policies and lies are flourishing here….

  24. Rolling Stone needs to develop more rape hoax stories and fewer Republican hoax stories. The rape hoaxes sell better.

  25. Rolling Stone magazine will go bankrupt once they are hit with multiple judgements for their slander and libel. Hopefully they will stop publishing unless some liberal billionaire bails them out.

  26. This sort of thing happens every once in a while over at Rolling Stone when one of their ‘journalists’ goes off their psych meds.

  27. I still can’t figure out how it’s racist to believe that Black People can make their own way to a good life, have all the same rights as everyone else, etc… But saying that Black People aren’t allowed to protect themselves from this, and are incapable of even keeping themselves alive without money given to them stolen from Whitey, well, that’s somehow not racist…?

Wasn’t the NRA founded on the very premise of giving guns to Black People so they could fight back against EXACTLY THIS!?

TTAG calls out tot he NRA to recruit minorities and inform them that Human Rights are not an OFWG-only club, but where is it now? I’m not one to exploit tragedy, but do we not point out the flaws in the arguments as they appear?

    This was a gun-free zone.
    This was a hate crime.
Background checks would have made no difference.
No law of any kind would have mattered.

And the one I still can’t figure out that no one is mentioning; separation of Church and State horribly violated by forbidding anyone who goes to church from protecting themselves. the same stands next door in Georgia, too…

Why are Black People told that they’re not good enough to save their own lives? Why are Christians told the same? If you’re both of these things, you deserve to die? Why do Democrats walk lockstep with the killer’s beliefs? Why do they want to enable more of this? Why do they lie so boldly in their “statistics?”

If ever there was a time for the NRA to reach out to minorities, educate them, inform them that guns are their right, too; this is it. They’ve been held hostage on the liberal vote plantation with propaganda and lies from agitators for far too long. I don’t know any of us OFWGs and PoTG that would have a problem with the color of anyone’s skin, but this is what their owners teach them and they don’t question it. It’s up to us to table the questions.

“Why do Democrats think you’re incompetent to the point of self-destruction just because of the color of your skin?”

“Why do Democrats tell you we’re racist hate-mongers, when all of us Old Fat White Guys beg and plead with you to join us in sharing the basic human right to defend yourself from crazy-ass crackas!?”

“Why do Democrats lie about absolutely everything forever?”

“Did you not know that the NRA was created for the very purpose of giving guns to Black People, even when Jim Crowe was disarming Blacks to make them easier to Lynch?”

“Can you not understand that the very same thing is happening today? Still? Again?”

“Will you please, please, please stop listening to the lies that tell you that you pool ol’ darkies are too incompetent to protect yourselves? No one else can do it for you. The NRA, GOA and us OFWGs and PoTG are NOT the ones saying this, your owners, the Democrats, keep preaching those hateful lies to you. Not us. We’re begging you to join us in equality and you’re refusing!”

  28. another liberal rag magazine, you’re only thing it’s good for us to start a fire in your fireplace! Dark ball magazine burger maltipoo!

  29. they have synonymized the Democratic Party with illegitimacy and abuse of the American order. If the shoe fits wear it.

  30. Leftism no longer constitutes a debatable misuse of American power, but theft and governmental overreach. There is no debate about it. Leftism is theft, force, overreach, fraud, and tyranny.

  31. Obama merely confirmed an extant narrative that equated all vaguely left-leaning government action with mass redistribution to a parasitic black population on the road to American collapse. Awwww…c,mon, we have a lot more parasites than just some black people; but he is right about a possible eventual American collapse.

  32. Black people are the engine of the Democratic Party, which is the engine of bad government, which is the engine of illegitimate oppression. They are part of a vast national criminal enterprise Well, he got the part about the Democratic Party right, but a lot more morons other than just some black people are involved.

  33. Freedom hating collectivists. They think of the collective as a singular entity (such as in gun deaths) and attempt whatever means necessary to increase safety for the collective, reduce deaths, etc for whatever they perceive is the collective’s public good all the while completely ignorning the fact of individual rights or any unintended consequences. Later they complain when an officer violates someones rights when they resist arrest or was wrongly detained/arrested. It really is amazing and yes – these people are voting. Actually voting.

Here is an example from the comments section at Huffpo where I got my a$$ beaten by hoards of of these ants.

All guns should be illegal full stop, but it won’t happen as its big business. The USA should be ashamed of themselves to allow this to continue. All this crap about our rights and the constitution has to end. Times have change over 300 years and the constitution needs to rewritten to suit the 21st century.

I thought it amusing his last name is “Beavis.”

    • Part of me would actually love to see their collectivist dystopia come to fruition, just to watch them be wholesale tortured and killed by the all powerful government they created.

If they hate rights and Constitutional protection so much, they should take a trip to North Korea to see how they like it.

  34. Some or all of the nine souls lost this past Wednesday in Charleston SC might have been alive today if at least one person had been a “Weaponized” Democrat or Republican proficient enough with a firearm to engage the cowardly murderous thug at close range.

  35. A lobotomy could not make this monstrously idiotic fool any more ignorant of America, the Constitution and, well, everything. I’m utterly ashamed to be a human if this piece of garbage is human also.
