Before the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011 went to the House floor for debate and (eventual) passage, I called my Representative to recommend a yea vote. David Cicilline’s staff member almost dropped her nail file. “You want him to vote for the bill?” To paraphrase Mr. Wonder (before his music sank into a sea of warm treacle), I am amazed but not amused by all the things he says that he’ll do. Keeping us safe from tooled-up terrorists, child molesters, stalkers and domestic abusers carrying their guns across state lines? Yeah put that on the list. What did your Rep have to say on the H.R. 822?

  1. Cicilline is a rancid little piece of shit liar and thief. He always has been and always will be til he shuffles off to Buffalo.
Who gives a damn what he thinks.
Vote him out in November of 2012!!iam not in his district,so I can’t.
Not like Langevin is any better on this issue, but I wouldn’t describe him in the above terms.

  2. I don’t know what Tom Cole (Ok-R) said during the debate, if anything. I do know afterwards he was as happy as a pig in in legislative manure.

    Taken from his website:
November 16, 2011 5:53 PM WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, which allows law-abiding gun owners with valid state-issued concealed firearm permits or licenses to carry a concealed firearm in any other state that also allows concealed carry.

“This legislation will help ensure that Americans’ Second Amendment rights are respected across state lines. Just as a driver’s license is valid in other states, concealed carry permits should also be honored. Oklahomans should have the same right to protect ourselves in other concealed-carry states as we have at home.”

  3. In CT, Murphy did not vote, Courtney was a yes all others voted no.

In 2012, my representative is up for reelection and I already phoned to tell him he lost my support and will personally work to get him out of office.

    • Murphy is a cold turd that should have been flushed last election. Not that Nancy Johnson (who he beat a couple of years ago) was much better.

  4. Massachusetts; 0 for 10. Need I say more? Also, Senator Scott Brown is against the legislation, should it make it to the Senate. Whether HR822 makes it to the Senate or not, Brown has lost my vote.

      • True, Brown may be the lesser of two evils. I’m just very weary of voting for evil or stupid. Brown’s not evil, he is stupid. I’ll pass this time and let the chips fall where they may. If Brown is defeated, maybe, just maybe, the other RINOs will get the message that our civil and human rights are not to be messed around with, especially if Massachusetts gun owners can be shown as a factor in his defeat.

  5. Fortunately I have one of the only good Reps in MD, but the D’s that control both houses of the legislature and the Gov are trying to redistrict him out of office.

  6. My rep is John Mica, no complaints about him. Rubio is one of the senators, and we are working to defeat Nelson next election in Florida.

  7. I don’t mean to troll, but why is it a bad idea to prevent sex offenders and those with a violent crime conviction from obtaining a carry permit? Isn’t that what the amendment he tried to introduce was intended for? While I’m no fan of Cicilline, this seems reasonable.

    • Ummn, ’cause people with felony convictions and misdemeanor domestic abuse already can’t get legally fill out a 4473, and this would make it more illegaller? This illegal goes to 11!

This is nothing more than grandstanding for his constituents.

      • He did mention a very specific case about that CCW guy with a violent history getting a license and murdering 4 women. I would never want an amendment attached to that bill that infringes on my abilities, but if there are somehow people with violent convictions, then I would want to prevent them from CCWing in my state. Of course, the big question is whether that murderer that he mentioned got his license illegally or not.

    • Cause you don’t know David Cicilline.Defender of illegal alien drug dealers,mob-connected,crooked mayor, and he once explained his support for gun control simply by lisping “I don’t like guns”.

  8. Having been a congressional staffer for over three years, there is no list for you to place your “vote” on individual bills. If enough calls come in and they decide it is a crisis, they may try to explain their actions or reverse them, but generally they know what their district prefers before making decisions, unless they are not running for office again.
That being said, does anyone worry if the Federal government might later use this, when under poor leadership, to say well if all CWP’s are reciprocal, then we as the Federal government must impose minimum requirements to obtain one? I think battles like this are better fought in Supreme courts then legislative floors.

    • does anyone worry if the Federal government might later use this, when under poor leadership, to say well if all CWP’s are reciprocal, then we as the Federal government must impose minimum requirements to obtain one?

Sure. And some people are worried about alien abduction.

      • I dunno, this Federal CCW bill could later go the way we do not want it to go. Ciccilline is a typical Left Coast Politico. I would expect nothing less. I still think the CCW Bill is going to die in the Senate.

  9. Basically how it went:

Me: “I wanted to ask him to vote for HR 822.”
    (three seconds)
Staffer: “Is that the concealed carry gun bill?”
    Me: “Yup”
Staffer: “And you want it passed with no amendments?”
    Me: “Yup”

Jon Runyan (R-NJ) ended up voting for the bill.

  10. It’s ironic that Davey Boy is the son of a famous Mob lawyer who made damn sure that all of his clients had plenty of guns and ammo. He’s also the brother of a convicted thief with whom David was accused of conspiring to defraud Providence of $75,000. Not to mention his soft-on-illegals stance that directly led to a rape-murder. All things being considered, David is the prototypical Rhode Island politician: a crook, and a cheap one at that.

  11. My dimocrat congresscritter is most famous for asking the question about whether US military bases threatened to capsize Guam. I haven’t checked, but I’m sure he was not in favor of the bill.

  12. With their new-found interest in States’ Rights, democrats naturally would endorse a States right to opt-out of, or severely curtail through registration and licensing schemes, the 14th Amendment.

If the 2nd Amendment causes “too many guns on our streets,” then surely the 14th is cause for “too many coloreds on our streets.”

  13. Correct me if I am wrong. Isn’t there already a law (unconstitutionally) in place to prevent felons from even owning a firearm, yet alone getting a ccw? I believe that is hat the NICS check is for.

    • You honestly think a politician would actually be familiar with the nuances of a potential law that he’s voting on? Nope. Just vote party lines, blame everything on the other side, and call it a day.

Besides, acknowledging that criminals already can’t legally own guns would do harm to his agenda, so no sense acknowledging truth.

  14. I have to get this off my chest. This guy talks about CCW holders with domestic violence records and this guy Gerardo Regalado. Brady and the VPC keep a list of “CCW Killers” that they like to wave in people’s faces. I assume this guy, like Brady and the VPC believe that ONLY police should be allowed to carry guns.

My sister dated a cop named Kevin. When my sister broke up with Kevin, he hit her, a lot. We (my family) found out Kevin had a history of domestic violence. He has restraining orders against him. But when girlfriends reported him, the Miami PD made them go away. When Miami PD responded to a 911 call, they would take him back to the local station and let him sleep it off. Any other person would be in jail. CCW holders would lose their licenses and would never be able to buy a gun again. Kevin strapped on a gun and went off to work the next day.

Every time I hear crap like this, or crap from Brady or the VPC I wonder how many other Kevins there are across the country. How many other cops have gotten away with domestic violence, child molestation, drug use, MURDER becuse a fellow officer did them a favor.

After what my sister went through. After what we all went though. Never tell a cop to leave your sister alone. He WILL threaten to “kill you and make it look justified.” I get so damn offended by the idea that “only police can be trusted to carry guns” because I can only imagine how many of those cops, with their govt approved guns, punched their wives into bloody pulp and were just allowed to sleep it off at the station. It bothers me to my very core that no one, I mean NO ONE on the “only cops should have guns” side, ever seems to want to root out bad, abusive cops. They just want to stop me from carrying my gun and let Kevin punch my sister black and blue because he has a badge.

  15. Correct me if I am wrong but, isn’t it already a crime for these nefarious and unsavory characters to possess a handgun? Enforce the existing laws to the fullest extent THEN you have done all you can to protect us. Since you have not or will not do so Sir, allow us the liberty to protect ourselves.
