webFrom the Moms Demand Action For Civilian Disarmament/Gun Sense in America website comes news of their forthcoming bloody shirt waving fest. Wasn’t the Second Amendment Foundation pilloried by the press for planning on using the anniversary of the Sandy Hook Spree Killing to promote gun ownership? What’s the bet MDA’s exploitation gets picked up by the mainstream media but good? Here’s Shannon Watt’s anti-gun agit-prop . . .

No More Silence: Marking the Anniversary of the Newtown Tragedy

Moms Demand Action will mark the one-year anniversary of the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, with No More Silence, a campaign to honor the lives lost at Sandy Hook Elementary, and to show our resolve never to be silent again about the epidemic of gun violence.

Join us. Participate in our week of action, create a paper bell craft, and mark the day of the anniversary with dozens of “No More Silence” events all across the country. At each of these events, we will ring bells to remember victims of gun violence, and to demonstrate our commitment to be vocal and persistent in working toward common-sense gun reform.

Join us to commemorate this solemn anniversary with No More Silence:

ATTEND A NO MORE SILENCE EVENT

On Saturday, December 14, Moms will gather in more than 35 states to honor the victims of the tragedy in Newtown, and the thousands of Americans lost to gun violence every year. All events will include a communal bell-ringing to remember the victims, and to show our resolve to never be silent again about gun violence. See the full list of events on the right side of this page.

CREATE PAPER BELLS

BellSquare1

Make sure your members of Congress know that a bell has sounded that can’t be unrung. Create paper bells and send them to your legislators so they know moms will not be silent until they take action to make our kids safer from gun violence. Be sure to send a photo of your bell to [email protected]Get a template and instructions here.

TAKE ACTION

Take action every day in the week leading up to the anniversary commemorations: Demand that Congress enact common-sense reforms such as comprehensive background checks for gun purchases. The daily calls to action are:

  • Monday: Craft paper bells with a message to elected officials and post photos to Facebook and Twitter (instructions for the craft are available here)
  • Tuesday: Email Congress to demand reforms using our email tool.
  • Wednesday: Use our Fast Tweet page to tweet members of Congress using the hashtags#NoMoreSilence #gunsense and #MomsDemand.
  • Thursday: Join our Thunderclap.
  • Friday: Call Congress with our easy call-in tool (coming soon)
  • Saturday: Attend a No More Silence Event (see the list of events on the right) [ED: see below]

Sunday, December 15th marks the first anniversary of Moms Demand Action. In the year since, more than 127,000 moms have joined our grassroots movement to bring gun sense to our nation. Moms will never give up, and will never be silent. Join us today.

  1. It’s a good thing this was on the most visited gun blog on the planet.

Otherwise people might have failed to see what a force to be reckoned with mda is and they might not have know what breaking news their every move is.

    • Don’t underestimate MDA. They’ve got the media on their side and plenty of money. They are our most formidable adversary.

      • I thoroughly disagree. They might be the most visible adversary (and TTAG is helping with that), but they’re far from the most formidable. That honor goes to the folks who are working quietly and under the radar, masked by the nonsense of MDA and groups like it. Administrative change is where the danger lies, not legislative, because at least for the time being, that boat is tied firmly to the dock.

If they do something worth talking about, then talk about it, but I doubt this will be it. Based on what I’ve seen, the average MDA gathering could fit in a good-sized minivan.

The Florida locations are Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale, and El Portal. I’ve lived in Florida my entire life, the first 25 years of it within two hours of El Portal, and I had no idea where it was. I had to look it up. This will be a joke, and the gatherings won’t be large enough to be distinguishable from the random passers-by unless they wear matching shirts or something.

        • The event is a Saturday and the Ft Lauderdale location is near me. I am going to carry a big sign that says I support gun rights and take pictures of whatever ‘crowd’ they can muster.

        • Hey Chip, that’s a DARN good idea. No open carry or any other bizarre antics to attract {the wrong kind of} attention. Just quietly stating we affirm our right.

        • A great sign to hold would be one that reads:

I MAY BE BE CARRYING A CONCEALED GUN.
          HAVE A NICE DAY!

I wonder if that’d break them up. You know, because they’d be “uncomfortable.”

      • I can understand what you mean.

I can’t help but feel like if mda does for guns what other worried moms have done for motorcycles, rap music, and violent video games then guns have a bright future.

        • Make them look silly
          Like the old Temperence League
          Old and out of step.

          Make them pay a price
          Too high for their Vanity,
          And make them look old.

I suggest mocking counter-protests. Lots of guys dressed in drag with signs from groups like “Grannies Against Guns” or “Old Bitties Demand Hearing Aids”, or “Old Women Against Everything”. A lot of these women engage in this public social preening as a way to look young and vigorous. If they think it is making them look old and out of it, they Wii avoid Moms Demand Some Action like the plague.

      • Had me fooled. The mda twitter and Facebook are CONSTANTLY bombarded by detractors, pro and anti gun alike. If there was at least some sort of argument or counterpoint going onwith mda supporters outnumbering them, I might agree. However, no one but no one wants to throw in with Shannon’s lot. CSGV is in the same boat. The Brady campaign and the anti gun politicians are the only groups with ACTUAL public support. That’s who we need to focus on.
Seriously RF, both of those groups have real wins against us. What does MDA have? Nothing. We need to stop giving them air time.

      • … and those girls know just how to work you boys.

I keep telling you, if you think the little girls can get over you, you need to understand Game (at least a little) so that instead of continuously responding (reacting, aka “jumping when they say jump!”) you can change the playing field and gain an upper hand.

I have no idea why this basic, easy truth, keeps being missed. Men are strong and stand firm. Women respond to that in all sorts of ways that would give the pro2A the advantage. If they knew how to play the women. You guys really need to get more Game.

    • Yup–we can not ever afford to let up in our defense of 2A for even a moment in light of the absolute incessant attack on our Constitution by the Antis. We remain in the battle of our lifetime in defense of 2A–The POTUS with his corrupt AG will work like never before to strip us of our gun rights as they no longer have to worry about re-election. The mid-term 2014 elections will be CRITICAL!

      • Very true but remember, taking away the guns is just a part of the bigger fight to take away men’s rights to be men.

Guns just happen to be tangible and obvious symbols of “man”. Believe me, if they thought they could get away with just snapping off your balls, that’s what they’d be going for.

  2. Meh… Sure the media will cover it and show a close in shot of the 5 – 10 people that show up (maybe 20 because it’s on a weekend), but this event will generally be like all the other MDA, MAIG, etc groups in the last 8 months. I would also say that gun rights groups shouldn’t even bother showing up to counter protest. If nobody pays attention, their money will dry up and they will fade away… for a while at least.

    • I disagree. MDA is here to stay. They are the acceptable face of Bloombergian gun control. They will be well-funded. And who can argue against Moms—aside from people who grew up with Moms like mine? I kid, I kid.

      • MDA is here to stay until Bloomberg realizes it’s a poor investment. If ‘Sunshine’ can’t get in front a MSNBC or CNN camera and point a gloveless finger at those “bullying pro-gun nuts that are protesting common sense solutions”, there really isn’t a story for the networks to exploit. Sure the press gives some air time in the echo chambers to those they agree with, but what else is new? You don’t change that with counter protests that will never get equal air time or positive press, but you have to begin the slow process of swaying the media to the center of the debate. This is asymmetrical warfare and the other side has a 45 year head start in two very important areas: Education and the Media.

Anybody got a strong-minded, pro-liberty child that wants to be a news anchor? Hell, who am I kidding? I’d even settle for Ron Burgandy over the lot we’ve got now.

  3. Everyone on TTAG should make a paper bell with pro-gun slogans on them and send them to our legislators and share photos of us with our bells with MDA.

  4. never met any “Mom’s” with that much free time on their hands. Who’s watching the kids while they nanny the rest of the country?

  5. Anybody in St. Louis want meet down on Waterman on the 14th? There are lots of great places to get a burger and a beer after the party. I lived about a block from there through the ’70s and ’80s.

    • Sounds like fun. I am deeply disappointed that they haven’t scheduled one for Idaho – I know a LOT of people who would be happy to show up and add input to their little demonstrations.

  6. Not that I disagree with them but look at what MADD (Mom’s Against Drunk Driving) have accomplished. This is the model that the MDA is using. Look out!

  7. So the ding-a-lings are making paper bells. Maybe next time they’ll be working with modeling clay. And Bloomberg’s money. And The Joyce Foundation’s money.

Let’s face it — Dirk was right. They really are wh0res.

    • You might get called a bully.

If they get your picture you might even wind up on twitter with some stupid caption across your face.

    • I don’t know if it “is” poor taste but it would be portrayed that way.

This group intentionally wants to bait potg to show up open carrying and increase the moms hero factor 10,000%

      • So show up with signs instead.

Say, blowups of a blanked out CCW maybe? And stand silently as a counterpoint to the inevitable hysterics. THAT’s what the media will cover – sane family counterpoint to insane hysterical post-menopausal women.

  8. Now if Moms Demand Action wanted to do something USEFUL… How about fundraising to get Strategos International or a like organization to train teachers like they did in my school? They know we can’t shoot back, but they also understand standard lockdown procedures equate to SHELTER IN PLACE AND WAIT FOR THE SHOOTER TO SHOOT YOU. Or to be saved. Whichever happens first. As teachers, we were told, WE ARE THE FIRST RESPONDERS, not SWAT, not EMS, the TEACHERS. Of course the point is they taught us how to respond, not wait to die. Demand some useful Action, Moms. Make a real difference.

  9. We must learn from tragedies. We must grieve them (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance are stages of grieving, but people move through some or all of them in their own way), then we must move on. The MDA have made a way of life out of almost celebrating tragedy. It’s my feeling that they are basically on a dysfunctional foundation. If they don’t redefine themselves in a healthier way they will lose popularity. A teacher was raped and killed with a box cutter in my hometown high school in Danvers Mass. If they haven’t added this to their agenda and insist in focusing on firearms alone, the writing is on the wall. IMHO

  10. The 127,000 MDA “moms” are greatly out-numbered by the several million gun owners in America. We should show up (in greater numbers) and counter-protest at every one of their events. The media can’t ignore that.

I also noticed that there is no event scheduled for Colorado. Just as well, because they would not receive a warm welcome there.

    • So go and encourage more blacks to be responsible gun owners, historically no group has had a greater need to be armed.

  11. Two in New York and the most northerly is Tarrytown. I believe they know what side their bread is buttered on in New York.

    • I was just thinking about that, it was thoroughly disappointing to learn that they do not have a single rally scheduled for Alaska. Too bad, I would’ve gone. I feel as though my life has been a little TOO blessed thus far, I haven’t met/conversed with very many anti’s in my day. Certainly would like the opportunity.

  12. Ah yes, they’ll be in Tucson, Arizona. What a coincidence, since Mark ‘Yoda’ Kelly and Glibby Giffords live in Tucson and are also on the take from Bloomberg. Small world.

  13. Hmm, Dec 14 is Saturday. I might be in Roanoke doing some Xmas shopping. I may just have to show up with my camera to ‘document’ the gathering. Whatever size it may be.

      • There’s a Lee Plaza on Church Ave SW, which makes sense as it’s right across the street from the municipal building.

No idea why they listed a residential address, though.

      • I’m guessing the address is wrong. Lee Plaza is the site of the Lee Memorial and the Roanoke Municipal Building. That would make more sense for their type of activity.

  14. Love the address where they will be meeting in Chicago. Maybe they can be play “the Knockout Game” or scream at the Gang bangers to stop shooting.

  15. We need people to quietly document and record these gatherings, and plaster the inevitably pitiful turn-out at each and every one so many times and in so many places that it cannot be ignored. Don’t forget to post accurate head-counts, either, or at least be as accurate as one can be.

I’d be willing to wager that all of these gatherings combined would not even hold a candle to any one of the pro-rights State capital protests earlier this year.

Being that I am in North Carolina, I could try to scope out the protest closest to me. That’s if anybody shows up to begin with.

  16. Awww. No Utah rally? Just as well. I got other shit to do than roll up and haw-haw the three moms that show up.

Actually, no I don’t, but lets pretend. Since that’s that this is, a PRETEND event.

  17. And what a suprise, the only AZ protest is in Tucson. Still to chickens*it to hold one in the valley I see. Wonder if Cadet Kelly will show up?

  18. This will be an awesome opportunity to get banned on more of their local Facebook pages. So far I’ve only got the main page, the Texas chapter and the Upstate NY Chapter. Got to step my game up.

  19. I can’t help but think that a far more powerful statement would be for as many armed people as possible standing at the Sandy Hook School parking lot with signs that say “Never Again, We Will Not Allow It”

  20. Mda is doing an excellent job.

If it were not for all the attention the get here it would be moms vs inanimate objects but they’re successfully turning this into outnumbered women vs thousands of armed men issue in which case their small numbers make them look even cooler.

  21. Stuff moms protest become sooooooo cool.

But you know what’s really cool? An unarmed clint eastwood standing up to greater numbers of armed individuals.

WE are their only chance of making being unarmed cool.

  22. I never said anything about a counter protest or anything. It is simply commemorating the event with a steadfast declaration to not let it happen again. To prevent violent individuals from preying on the helpless. Which, amusingly enough, is the alleged end goal of all of these anti gun groups. Basically it would be demonstrating that standing around and shilling about wanting to make people feel safe is nothing compared to taking and stand and demonstrating a willingness to act.

  23. If I go counter-demonstrate the one in LA with a sign that says “Every year, guns are used over 80x more often to protect a life than to take one”, I probably will be the only one there besides MDA.

  24. I have a feeling that some of the parishioners at the churches holding these meetings will not be happy. I know that will be the case at the Lutheran churches.

  25. These guys are like bait in a trap. We need to just forget about MDA. This is one of those times where if we close our eyes and ignore them, the REALLY WILL go away. These dweebs have no real wins against us.

We need to give those groups who do our attention.

  26. Someone be quick and form Mothers against Motherhood, there’s too many stupid people reproducing.

Would a giant sign that says “I don’t need guns to clean the gene pool” be in really bad taste? Maybe strap it on an ax handle….

  27. “On Saturday, December 14, Moms will gather in more than 35 states…” They made a mistake in punctuation. It should read: On Saturday, December, 14 Moms will gather in more than 35 states…
Btw. Does it mean it will be in 36 states?

  28. What exactly is thunderclap? Sounds like something you could catch from one of the MDA gatherings…

    • I had to look it up. It’s a scheduled social media event. The idea is that everyone who cares about a thing will hit their social media at the same time, thus (theoretically) showing the “huge support” for that topic.

      • Or causing a Denial of Service Attack, which will put MDA on the Homeland Security terrorist radar.

OTOH, I don’t think they have the keyboard kommandos to cause that to happen.

  29. NEW HAVEN >> Several of the families of the Dec. 14, 2012, Sandy Hook victims and others from Newtown are ready to take a stand against the bitterness and partisanship that has stained the gun-control debate in the last year.

It’s time, they say, to come together and talk, from every point of view, and find a sensible way through to ending gun violence.

Members of Sandy Hook Promise met with the New Haven Register’s editorial board Friday to talk about their new initiative, Parent Together.

While they are not opposed to people owning guns and they respect the Second Amendment, Promise members would like the conversation to shift, almost radically, to one of understanding and genuine communication.

So unlike MDA, they want “to come together and talk, from every point of view” with “understanding and genuine communication” and without “bitterness and partisanship.”

Okay — I am willing to do that. Let’s see if they are really willing to do that..

I will report the results here.

  30. Cute that their “demand a plan” rally in St. Louis is a few blocks from some of the most dangerous areas in town.

Here’s a plan: train, carry, train, don’t be a victim.

  31. Thirty-five “events” nationwide? Wow, this means there will be at least three dozen of their members involved…maybe even four dozen.

  32. Where: The Netherlands Carillon

See, this is what REALLY burns me about this gang. The Netherlands Carillon overlooks the Arlington National Cemetery. The utter disrespect for the fallen is just beyond contempt.

  33. They probably couldn’t have picked worse locations in some of these states…

In NJ, it’s in front of a church on a narrow one-way semi-residential street at least a few blocks from anywhere that more than a handful of local neighbors will see them.
