Speaking to CNN (click here to live stream), Representative Mo Brooks (Alabama’s 5th congressional district) said “We were facing a guy with a gun with nothing but baseball bats.” But not quite. Brooks said two Capitol Police were on scene and returned fire.

Congressman Steve Scalise –the current United States House of Representatives Majority Whip and representative for Louisiana’s 1st congressional district — was shot and wounded. CNN reports that a Congressional aide was also shot. A belt tourniquet was applied to his leg.

There were two Capitol Police officers on scene. One was shot in the chest and airlifted to a local hospital. Another was also shot but helped attend to the wounded.

Rep. Brooks praised his security detail. He said they were facing a rifle — shooting through a chain link fence — with pistols at 90 to 100 feet distance “He shot at least 50 times,” Brook said.

CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer focused on the type of rifle used. Brooks said he didn’t know.

  1. Who’s running the odds on what the shooter is? Snack bar, ANTIFA, or “Guy that talks to God on a two way radio” ?

    • I’ll take $500 on “random commie” with a $100 side bet on Aloha Snack Bar. Doesn’t seem like the later’s style through. They are not that incompetent.

    • Initial reports are of a while male in his late 40s or 50’s with a “military style assault rifle” (the media’s term) who specifically asked a bystander – before he started shooting – whether the people on the field were Republicans or Democrats. When he was told “Republicans,” he set off and opened fire.

      • Yep. If this individual does turn out to be a leftist regressive, he’ll Just be another example of what happens when a whole group of a society cuts loose of traditional spiritual, moral and ethical norms; and they all support each other in sailing off into the darkness of mass madness, and a whole sale homicidal psychoses.

And, of course, just as when an insane person thinks they are the only ones that are sane, and everyone else are crazy; the regressives, in their group facist psychoses, sees US as the crazy, dangerous facists, when, in fact, THEY are the ones endangering all of our freedoms.

  2. In the inner-city neighborhood where I grew up, one guy with a rifle would easily be done in by ten guys with baseball bats (assuming the rifleman wasn’t special forces trained or something).

There were plenty of guns around but not any shootings. The preferred weapon was a baseball bat (and they got used a lot).

  3. The Del Ray area of Alexandria where this occurred is ground zero for Virginia Democrats. The group-think reverberating off the walls of that echo chamber likely drove one of their own kind insane enough to feel justified in killing Republicans.

    • As a lifelong resident of VA, I wish we could burn down NoVA and start over. So many leftists have infiltrated my beloved state and have wildly different views than us folk that live elsewhere in the state.

    • As an Alexandrian, there are a lot of people who work in DC who choose to live on this side of the river because of the free gun laws. Some people in Del Ray are anti-gun, but I know for a fact a lot of them aren’t. Del Ray may be liberal for Virginia, but not for the Washington metro area as a whole, especially compared to places like DC or Takoma Park, MD. VCDL and the NRA are both based in Northern Virginia. I doubt you’ll find more gun stores per capita anywhere in the US than in NoVA. The shooter, as everyone knows by now, is from Illinois.
