UPDATE: Well, it looks like the MSNBC programmer didn’t even want this clunker as a weight on their daytime ratings. If you’re interested, they’re putting this thing up online only. Heh.

-/-/-/-/-

Did you catch CNN’s seven-hour long “climate town hall” extravaganza a few weeks ago? Neither did we. Somehow we knew that in order to save the planet from total annihilation in 14 months (or 18 monthsmaybe), we’d all be told we MUST stop eating beef, air conditioning our homes, and driving our cars. It was all so predictable.

To be fair, Wednesday’s “Gun Safety” Forum — which is being produced by the March for our Lives and Giffords civilian disarmament operations — probably won’t be any more enlightening than CNN’s ratings disaster. Organizers chose to hold this much-anticipated event in Las Vegas just after the anniversary of the Mandalay Bay shooting.

SPOILER ALERT: we’re almost sure to hear all of the usual fact-free harangues about the alleged “gun violence” epidemic that’s inflicting the United States, along with all of the usual gun-grabbers’ prescriptions for “solving” the problem.

Look for these to include red flag laws, universal background checks, minimally compensated black gun confiscation (“assault weapons” buybacks) magazine capacity limits and raising the minimum age to exercise an enumerated civil right.

Yadda.

Yadda.

Yadda.

But fear not. You won’t have to watch any of it.

Why? Well first, because MSNBC learned from CNN’s big mistake. CNN scheduled their interminable climate diatribe for prime time. And…it didn’t do well. At all. It turns out that very few Americans appreciate being told what profligate, wasteful climate-killers they are for hours on end.

So MSNBC had a better idea. They’re sticking this 5-hour ratings black hole in the middle of the day…when normal, productive members of society are, you know, working.

The other reason you won’t have to endure this dog and pony show is that we’ll do it for you. That’s right…as painful as it will undoubtedly be, it’s our job to monitor this 10-candidate spectacular and let you know if anything worth noting happens (we don’t have high hopes).

Still, if you’re home nursing a sick kid or happen to be off on Wednesday and have a hankering for a little mind-numbing sermonizing, here’s the schedule:

  1. Appreciate it. Think I’d rather get a root canal. My dentist has some pretty solid choices on guns and I’m pretty sure he even visits here.

      • But this show will make great fodder for memes and youtube commentary. If they just shut up for a few weeks, then they could drive Tim Pool, Crowder, Pregger, etc out of business in a month and probably beat Trump. Thank God for idiots…. I’m going to get a few years out of my “Hell yes we’re going to take your AR15” T-shirt. I can’t wait to watch this show and see what comes out of their mouths.

    • Very much likely to generate better ratings. Just keep the gun association away from the ̶L̶i̶z̶a̶r̶d̶ ̶p̶e̶o̶p̶l̶e̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶l̶o̶r̶d̶s̶ Google so that you video blocked.

      • So that you video won’t be blocked. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh where TF is the edit function? Dan are you listening?

        • Your not you, your video. Why does it change? That is the third time I type it correctly and it appears incorrectly. Don’t blame spellcheck, I override it.

  2. if you check the science on climate change according to it there is no solution currently to climate change. The only option is to let the free market solve it.

I’m not saying they are right or wrong I’m saying looking at their stuff the people advocating control don’t even know their own stuff. it’s funny. I was talking to a german visiting me here. He said “slow it down” Yes slow climate change down.

According to the science that they all see as 100% accurate it’s over already and you can’t slow it down. The world will change permanently and lots of animals and other lifeforms will go extinct. According to their research I mean.

    • Every proposed solution I’ve seen to stop climate change involves massive capital investment. In other words, build, build, build. Build windmills. Build solar panels. Build electric cars. Build mass transit.

Well, folks, building is what got us in to this mess. Building more stuff is not going to get us out of it– it will only make it worse. I’ve seen several articles suggesting that climate change has been hijacked by Wall Street as the next big investment opportunity, and I’m inclined to agree with them. Since the politicians are all in the pockets of Wall Street, don’t expect any meaningful action from them. They’re part of the racket.

The only thing that stops climate change is “ungrowth”, meaning shutting just about everything down and ratcheting it all back to the 18th century. Nobody is going to get on board with that, so nothing will be done, the 1% will get still richer, and ultimately Mother Nature will ratchet us back to the 10th century.

Sit back and enjoy the show… and, oh yeah, keep your powder dry. You really are going to need it.

        • OK, smart boy, tell me how you’re going to solve the problem. Build more shit? Yeah, that works.

        • The world has been warming since the end of the last ice age. Get over it. What do plants and trees need to breath to produce oxygen? Yup, that’s right…
Maybe in a thousand years, things will reverse and we’ll go into another ice age.

          Lather, rinse, repeat.

        • @UpInArms
What problem are you talking about?
The ice age start that was predicted to come around the Y2K by scientists in ’80s? Running out of coal, oil and natural gas predicted for 2010-2020? The ozone hole that will kill us all in couple of years? Global warming that will melt all polar ice and raise the see level several yards by 2015? Drying out of the Great lakes? African bees? Food shortages?
I’m afraid I’m getting all the scares mixed up, and I’m sure I missed some.

When Obama buys multi million seaside properties, we should be fine for foreseeable future.

        • UpInArms
Assumes facts not in evidence. There is no problem. Just a bunch of doomsday cult hysteria by commies rapidly realizing they are becoming obsolete.

      • The phrase “stop climate change” stunned me. The climate is always changing, the climate has always changed, the climate will always change. I realize the current intended meaning of “climate change” is global warming but they don’t use that any more. I will even agree that global warming is occurring. It has been warming for about the last 10,000 years since the end of the last ice age with a few global cooling spells thrown in the mix from time to time.

Anyone who thinks humans are causing “climate change” or can do anything to alter “climate change” are either dedicated socialists intent on destroying America or their useful fools.

        • The Little Ice Age just ended less than 200 years ago. Before that, we had the Medieval Warm Period. So to recap, temperatures went up, then went down, all right before the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution coincided with the end of the Little Ice Age.

        • The politician are mearly reacting to the folks saying, “stop the climate change, do something, anything”

        • I really wish I could lend a lot more support toward stopping climate change. The problem is that we’ve already committed all of our advocacy budget toward stopping plate tectonics.

        • I just say “The Great Lakes were 5 big ice cubes, they melted before we got here”. How did that happen? Buffalo farts?

      • There was a perfectly good proposal back in the 1960’s when “global warming” was first raised as a specter of impending disaster.

A physicist looked at it and came to the conclusion that if you really think it’s a problem then you have to admit that we didn’t (and still don’t btw) know all the inputs and outputs of this kinetics equation but what we do know is that one of the MAJOR factors is the albedo of the planet.

There are three nice things about screwing around with the albedo of the planet. First, it’s pretty darn fast since every square meter you turn white reflects about 1000 watts of solar energy back into space. Second, it’s rapidly reversible if you realize you’ve made a mistake or another variable has changed. Third, when you want that “fine control” you get it with this. Need an extra million watts? Remove the white color of 0.000386102 square miles (that’s 0.247 acres). Done. Need 4 million less? Paint an acre of uninhabited land white. Done.

So there is a very easy solution that we have the technology for. It’s cheap, it’s reversible and even adjustable on the fly. The best part? We know it works. The math has been worked out and known for like 60 years.

So why doesn’t anyone talk about it? Because it doesn’t help concentrate power in D.C.. That’s why.

        • Injecting sulfur dioxide into the stratosphere is another way, and with reusable orbital-class rockets, use SO2 as a ballast and inject where necessary…

        • Didn’t we hear for decades about the devastating damage the acidic rains from burning sulphur containing coal cause to the environment? From the same alarmists that push global warming, sorry – I meant climate change, no less? So now we are going to help the environment by injecting the H2SO4 straight into the atmosphere. I’m sure they have a easy way to extract it again figured out, in case it doesn’t work as predicted, work too well, or some other unforseen side effects appear.

        • Ultimately the problem with playing around with chemical concentrations in the atmosphere, regardless of how safe of a compound you choose to do it with, is that it’s a very gross form of control. It takes large amounts of whatever gasses you pick and it acts comparatively slowly.

That means that by the time you realize you’ve made a mistake or a volcano adds a ton of sulfur to the atmosphere, you can’t stop from overshooting. Imaging merging onto a highway with no more control over your speed than 100% throttle and coasting. You’re prolly gonna smack something. Hard.

If we were to believe for a moment that AOC is right the amount of atmospheric changes you’d have to make is massive. You have no real idea what that’s going to do and if you overshoot… yeah, bad shit happens.

What I’m saying is that within the context of the climate change debate there IS a cheap way to do this that offers fine control, can be modified quickly as needs dictate and which is known 100% to be effective. It was written up in scientific papers back when my dad was a undergraduate. (He’s now 80).

They eschew the KNOWN way to do something. The way that’s cheap, safe, effective and reversible within days to months if need be. Instead they push for a series of unproven, poorly tested “solutions” that even if they worked as advertised don’t offer the control or safety of what’s known for six decades and the “newer and better” solutions cost a many orders of magnitude more. That tells us something.

It tells us that they are liars. That even within the context of THEIR OWN ARGUMENT, when we grant them that they are completely correct about 100% of the problem and it’s causes, the Left is STILL disingenuous.

There are a few lessons contained in this. Two of them are that these people are never going to tell the truth when lies get them power and the second is that education of the population is fucking-A-number-1 important because if the population knew fuck all about the topic at hand the Left could never get as far as they have.

        • They’re doing exactly that, just with planes and aerosolized powder instead of painting the ground.

  3. I’m glad they’re having all of these town halls with subjects that would really help Americans like, How not to get hooked on and die from drugs, How to get out of debt or never get in it in the first place, and my favorite, How to make more money and pay less taxes.

  4. More Commiecrats advocating the violation of Americans Constitutional rights, probably lead by BeatOff O’Dourke and brought to you by the Communist News Network,Eff Em.

  5. These “town-halls” are a joke. They are nothing but a dog and pony show complete with smoke and mirrors.
There is NOTHING “town-hall” about them. Nobody gets to ask any question that is not pre-approved with the person asking the question completely vetted. No hard questions. It’s a joke.

    • I think the correct word for what you describe was coined by one Joseph Goebbels (1897-1945), was the Reich Minister of Propaganda and Propaganda is what these town halls are.

    • The planet have been here for billions of years before first humanoid appeared. It will be here long after last one disappears. Any scientist who tells you he knows how exactly Earth’s climate works and how to steer it is a damn liar.
All of the scientific computer models predicting catastrophic warming 10 or 20 years ago were wrong. Excuse me if I don’t go crazy about today’s models predicting catastrophe 12 years from now. If they can’t predict weather in small area a week ahead, why should I believe they can predict the whole global climate for years and even decades ahead?

  6. Anti-gun politics have metastasized, like a cancerous growth that starts out benign but annoying. It has festered for so long any pretense of an intellectual and factual argument has long eroded away. Replaced by standard rhetoric, repeated ad infinitum with a smattering of new words and phrases from time to time to make it seem fresh.

  7. I like to watch these them DumDums keep openning their mouths. The more crap they say, the funnier their rational are.

  8. I think I’d rather be forced to watch a literal circle jerk than this figuative one. Less ignorance over less time.

    4. I’ve been waiting for these figures…Earlier this month I was seeing daily references to America’s “urgent gun crisis” and how the escalating “crisis” justified gutting the Second Amendment. One flamboyant call to action was on September 12, when the chief executives of some of the nation’s best-known companies sent a letter to Senate leaders urging an expansion of background checks to all firearms sales and stronger “red flag” laws.

“Doing nothing about America’s gun violence crisis is simply unacceptable and it is time to stand with the American public on gun safety,” the heads of nearly 150 companies like Levi Strauss, Twitter and Uber, said in the letter, which urges the Republican-controlled Senate to enact bills already introduced in the Democrat-led House of Representatives. It’s a crisis, you see. It’s out of control!

The FBI finally released its violent crime statistics on 2018. Violent crime, including murder, declined significantly last year. From the report,

The 2018 statistics show the estimated rate of violent crime was 368.9 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants, and the estimated rate of property crime was 2,199.5 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants. The violent crime rate fell 3.9 percent when compared with the 2017 rate; the property crime rate declined 6.9 percent.

The 2018 violent crime rate was at its lowest since 1971, when there were 396 violent crimes per 100,000 people. In that year, however, violent crime was on its way up. The trend since the early 1990’s has been down. The violent crime rate in 2018 is less than half of what it was at its peak in 1991.

Murders declined at an even greater rate than other violent crimes, dropping 6.2 % from 2017. At 5.0 homicides per 100,000 people, the U.S. homicide rate is near the 50-year low of 4.4 per 100, 000 set in 2014.

But the U.S. has a violent crime crisis! That’s what everyone says on Facebook, so it must be true. They say it on Facebook because the news media intentionally works to make Americans think violent crime is going up when it’s really going declining dramatically. Let’s see what kind of publicity the FBI report gets from a biased media that wants the NRA, the Republicans and the Trump Administration to be seen as child murderers.

Then our cowardly business leaders join hands and pander. They don’t care about facts, statistics, or whether their efforts will cost Americans their rights, as long as it signals their virtue to a prime demographic—the young, ignorant, anti-gun demographic—and sells more stuff. In their ethics-free calculations, its a valid trade-off.

Oh—in considering the attendant false argument that violent crime is on the rise because “there are too many guns,” note that as violent crime has dropped, gun sales have climbed dramatically. Although millions of privately owned firearms have been added to private control over the past two decades, violent crime and homicides receded as gun sales exploded.

Writes gun rights activist Cam Edwards, accurately,

The idea that more guns equals more crime is a foundational tenet of the gun control belief system, but it’s simply not true. We’ve actually had more guns and less crime over the past two decades, and hopefully that trend continues in the years to come.

  10. They’re doing 5 hours? Seriously? If I was a Democratic Candidate I wouldn’t do more than 2 tops and even that would be pushing it. 5 isn’t a marathon it’s a death march.
