Requiring licenses for firearms may sound like a way to keep dangerous individuals from acquiring means to do harm to the innocent. But, as we have seen in the case of the coronavirus lockdowns and the case of Kyle Rittenhouse, licenses are a way for governments to tyrannize us when we are at our most vulnerable.

Obtaining a firearm in 2020, a little more than a month before a presidential election, means long waits that are doubling time from purchase to possession of the firearm. In Washington, D.C. the wait is over a month to acquire a firearm after purchase.

The lessons are clear from the Rittenhouse trial (sic) and actions of governors during the Chinese coronavirus crisis. When the state asks for new powers, it is under the guise of furthering a public interest.  But as we have seen, laws that appear mundane can be used to oppress Americans for otherwise legal, normal, and even ethical activities. We must also scrutinize the details of all proposed legislation. Laws must be carefully circumscribed to ensure that a future legislature, governor, or president cannot read into the law more than the drafters of that law intended. Laws must be narrow and specific. Otherwise the state will abuse these laws, and abuse us, during the next time of crisis.

  1. Yes, we know! Baby steps, that over time equal many miles. The mentality over the last 50-60 years has been geared toward appeasing the bullys and the criminals and imposing what power they DO have on the “silent majority” who are too busy to play the game!

    • A topic yesterday was Gun Owners and Mental Illness. Far too many on this forum went along with it like children eager to help a pervert find his dog. When Gun Owners are singled out it allows sneaky Gun Control Zealots to tie Gun Owners to mental illness. It’s a Guilt by Association Tactic used to gain incremental support for gun bans, restrictions, confiscation, etc.

To be on the safe side when Gun Owners and Mental Illness are mentioned demand all inanimate objects and their owners are included such as, Car Owners, Knife Owners, Bat Owners, Chainsaw Owners, Stove Owners, Hammer Owners, Razor Blade Owners, Gasoline Owners, Match Owners, Brick Owners, etc.

Any inanimate object a mentally ill individual can use to harm themselves and others must be included equally otherwise people who really don’t give a rat’s ass about mental illness will use the fear of mental illness and Guns to advance their Gun Control Agenda.

    • License : “permission to act or to do something that would otherwise be prohibited or illegal” – Black’s Law Dictionary

Everything requiring a license has that licensing requirement because that activity has been deemed by the government to be an illegal act, and the license itself is merely a special permission to engage in that activity subject to the government’s rules and regulations and also, the payment of the required fee. Now just think for a moment of how many activities and things in our daily lives we are prohibited from doing or taking part in without first obtaining some sort of government issued license. Many people today can not work in their chosen occupation without a government issued license. With some even required to be double licensed such as in the case of a new home builder who must first be licensed as a contractor in order to build the home but then can not himself sell the product he makes without also obtaining a real estate broker’s license. Even partaking in one of the most basic of human acts, that of getting married, requires a state issued license. Years ago the act of holy matrimony used to be a sacred covenant between man, woman and God, but today it is the state that is the principal actor in every marriage and with the control over both the marriage and any children resulting from the marriage.

We have allowed government to usurp an enormous amount of power and authority that goes well beyond what was originally authorized by our founding documents that created government. But like it has been said, “Real power is not given to you. Real power you take”. And we the people certainly have over the years allowed government to take and to continue to take more and more power and authority. And like someone once said, “If you don’t raise an objection, then you don’t have one”. So I guess we have collectively failed to raise a strong enough objection and instead have just learned to accept acquiescing to the authority of government.

  2. This is true. Thanks to the China virus, the county where I live (Minneapolis) has shut down all satellite CCW application centers. All applications must be made in person, downtown, and the wait to make an appointment is three months from now, with your license coming a month after that. So if you’re worried about the looters, rioters, and other criminals that the mayor has released onto the streets without bail, you have to wait four months to “legally” carry.

    • Or you can volunteer to serve as a rioting domestic terrorist, which immediately authorizes you to carry concealed without a license, just like Gaige Grosskreutz.

    • Has there been a run on sporting goods shops, particularly for baseball bats? But not such an increase in sales of mitts and balls?

  3. Yes, yes. Some jurisdictions hate firearms in the hands of their citizens. Suggestion for the citizens of those jurisdictions: FIX YOUR DAMN PROBLEM. Quit yer whining and do something about it.

    • I agree. People who had any sense of the oppressive nature of governments in general should’ve had some self-protection tools long before the virus. As far as inconveniencing
people today who were never in the market for a firearm before the latest crisis that can’t be wasted, it’s not a bad way to prove to them that it’s NOT easier to buy a cup of coffee than an AR-15.

      • I am in one of the more gun friendly counties in Upstate NY where the sheriff and all but one judge actually want normal people to own guns. It is still a 3 month wait just to get the paperwork and fingerprinting accepted let alone reviewed and approved by the judge. The process is the punishment even when all levels are for the most part helpful especially when we have a massive surge in applications.

        • Y’all in States like NY, NJ, CA, etc. ought to look at how MS and the other Free States got out from under all that permitting nonsense in the last 10 years or so. It wasn’t easy, but we got it done by getting off our asses and getting in the face of our politicians, judges, and others that were standing in our way. Including taking them to court and beating them at their own game. It can be done by the citizens of any jurisdiction if they put their minds to it and don’t give up because “it’s just too hard”.

        • I love it when I get the advice to just “make it happen” and “Do some work” in states like NY, NJ, CA, etc. You truly have no idea what you’re talking about. Here’s a suggestion: move here to NY and start helping out yourself.

        • Question ….So in States that are restrictive, Sites like Gun Broker are not allowed? Or do you bid/win , firearm gets shipped to FFL…then it sits there?

I live in the UpState of South Carolina so excuse my confusion about all requirements in other States..

        • We work towards it but every solution is a bit different. With any luck the election next year and fallout from pandemic related overreach may cause a bit of change this decade.

        • “Or do you bid/win , firearm gets shipped to FFL…then it sits there?”

Bid/win or outright buy the firearm, tell gunbroker who your local FFL is for shipping. At that point. I call the FFL to let them know it’s being shipped, when it arrives, the FFL calls me to let me know it’s here to be picked up. I then go to the FFL where the transfer is the same as if I was buying a gun in that dealer’s store, yellowsheet, background check, etc. And I hand the dealer 25 bucks for accepting the shipment.

It’s no different than if you were in a distant state and saw a handgun in a pawn shop you wanted to buy. Pay for it there, and the seller ships it to your preferred local FFL for pick up…

      • my latest purchase…[of a pistol at Rural King]…took 45 min to complete the paperwork…which is ridiculous compared to other purchases in the past….

  4. Something about a right delayed.
Although today society operates on a “color of skin over content of character” philosophy so why be surprised that delaying rights seemingly indefinitely is perfectly acceptable.

Fear the corona boogeyman, strap on your cuck mask and embrace your authoritarian overlords.

  5. Yes and in this nation All gun control is un Constitutional, according to the wording of the 2 nd. amendment as it’s supposed law of the land.

  6. A good example of this type of oppression would be Massachusetts…Where the Demo-Authoritarian Politicians, our RINO Figure-Head Governor, our Authoritarian General, and the Socialist Controlled Leftist Police Departments have absolute control over a Resident/U.S. citizens 2nd Amendment Rights. Where these same people claim the 2nd Amendment doesn’t exist in MA. Only a barely tolerated privilege, that can be denied, suspended, or revoked at the whim of the “licensing authority”.(The police) No MA resident may handle, purchase, possess, carry, own, etc…Any Firearm (pistol/rifle/shotgun/ammo.) without a FID/LTC card permit…So, in this state its already happened…The State of MA has already infringed heavy on a U.S. citizens constitutional rights with little to no blowback. Very little recourse for a Resident/Citizen…Expensive mandatory safety training classes, Police Bureaucracy, Mandatory, Voluntary Police interrogation by the licensing officer without an attorney present, lengthy approval process, may deny or restrict, etc…This should give everyone an idea of what THEY an on doing…..

  7. 14 days from FFL to Clerk to getting it added to my permit (in NYS we have to add every pistol onto a permit before we can carry it – fortunately my county ONLY issues concealed carry permits, unlike some other even worse counties in this state).

      • “PA just uses their registry…”

We will soon have a SCOTUS friendlier to gun rights. Consider suing PA for violating your civil rights, and get the ball rolling…

  8. This has only need a preview of how they will regulate us. Imagine the fun they can have with cars, travelling, even leaving your home. Getting everyone to go along with the lock downs convinced them of what is possible.

    • They already have the Soviets, East Germany and China for templates. It is more letting the technology catch up to make it easier.

  9. In simple terms that the general public (and ALL legislators) can understand……Criminals don’t obey the laws (that’s why they’re criminals). Any and all laws, regulations .decrees or resolutions ONLY effect LAW ABIDING CITIZENS, and don’t effect crime as one generally accepts that term. Firearms ownership can effect the reduction of crime both as a deterrent and in intervention. Why is something so simple and obvious as this escape the left?

    • Because the left sees everything as political first. Crime is political because it is the oppressed classes seizing what they “need” and crimes against “oppressors” are people’s justice.

  10. I will study well, but not when I didn’t think it was so difficult to study on my own, for this reason I started using GradeMiners, which allows me to get excellent grades.
