Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s 17-year-old son Zach stepped outside the family home Friday night to make a phone call. Apparently seeing a target of opportunity, two wayward yoots grabbed him, pummeled him and appropriated his cell phone. Wait, isn’t Hizzoner’s humble abode, you know, protected by some of Chicago’s finest? As a matter of fact, chicago.cbslocal.com reports, “Police officers are assigned to the mayor’s home front and back 24 hours a day. There are also cameras at both ends of the block.” It seems nowhere is safe in Chiraq these days. But don’t worry, the CPD’s upping the ante . . .

Dan Hill lives on the block. Hill says he’s seen an increased police presence on the block Saturday.

“There’s been at least one more paddy wagon out here this morning and, just a couple unmarked cars up and down the street,” Hill said. “Usually there’s just two, one in front and one in the back.”

Horse. Barn door.

The good news for Chicagoans who don’t have the benefit of a phalanx of cops stationed outside their home around the clock is that concealed carry is now an option, no thanks to the Mayor. Unfortunately, Master Zach is too young to qualify for a permit. He’ll have to wait until he’s 21 to protect himself on the Windy’s City’s mean streets. Or his father’s front lawn. Until then, good luck, kid.

    • While Rahm’s son is certainly not guilty of the legislation and curtailment of civil rights that his father is, the irony is palpable. I am glad he is ok, but two guys jump the mayor’s son outside the mayor’s house, with cops within shouting distance, literally.

  1. Lets play a game; you’re a CPD cop assigned to protect Rahm Emmanuel and his family.

    Lucky you.

Your options are A; intervene in a mugging attempt of the son by a black male, risking a physical confrontation which may escalate to deadly force -thus trigging a race riot and your dismissal.

Option B; do nothing , wait until its over, then call EMS.

I know which one I’d pick.

  2. A lot of good those security cameras did.
I always laugh when I see the signs on gas station stores “Protected by 24/7 surveillance”.

    • Cameras are like guns and shooting; there’s good hardware, along with so-so and bad. Same goes for the use of same.

Crap cameras are of course (usually) less expensive, and there’re plenty of crap installers and fly-by-night outfits. Hmmm… as a pilot with IFR, maybe I shouldn’t use that last phrase.

Anyway, they frequently do great good.

  3. Interesting for sure. Could it be the cops that were supposed to be guarding the property looked the other way in retaliation fo how Emanuels buddy Obama has been trashing the police. Serves him right now that someone in his family is the target of I bet black muggers. So what did the security cameras come up with? If they were black I suspect they won’t be showing that video.

    • Possible but there’s an alternate theory… that the son purposely dodged the police details to meet with someone who subsequently robbed him.

Why someone would want to avoid daddy’s police protection to meet with a criminal at night… I couldn’t say.

      • This theory holds more water than anything else I’ve heard. Who walks outside to make a cell call at night in the middle of winter in Chicago? No one, that’s who.

        • Me – in Rochester, anyway, where it’s just as cold.

I’m on Sprint, the Not Now Network that can’t go the distance. Outside the bars go from 0.0 to 0.5…

        • A horny 17-y.o. who doesn’t want the ‘rents to know who he’s talking to.

Frak, I’ve seen high school kids stand out in the pouring rain to make a call. They have this idea that privacy for their calls is important, apparently.

      • I’m sure part of the investigation would be to retrieve the phone record of the call that took place at the time of the mugging. And that information will readily be made available to the public.

Okay, okay……I tried to say above with a straight face. Couldn’t do it.

  4. But aren’t the police always supposed to be there to protect us? And I thought that no one needed a gun in a nice neighborhood?

  5. Nice neighberhood. Mayor’s house and family. 24-7 police presence right there. And this boy gets mugged.

My neighberhood, not so nice. Cops do their best here but they aren’t here 24-7. And shitheads like Rahm want to keep me defenseless.

‘Just call the cops.” When the muggers take your phone first thing, what then?

  6. I bet the son was meeting up with a pot connection and he got robbed of his stash money as well as his phone.

Also, I’ll also bet the son will also now get 24/7 armed protection, at tax payer expense, of course.

    • My first thought as well. Kid wants some drugs, texts his dealer. Tells them where to meet so they don’t get spotted. Something goes wrong, they take it out on his face.

    • Bingo.

“We have it from numerous sources that there are holes in the story that you could drive a truck through. No video exists (that we’ve heard of) despite cameras at both ends of the block, at nearby businesses and the CTA El station. Someone else claims the phone was wiped before the detectives could start tracking it. Others have said the victim was uncooperative when confronted with inconsistencies.”

  7. Yeah….great. I live in the area and the 19th police district already has had 5% of coppers pulled to protect this clown of a mayor. That’s in addition to the dedicated police detail he already has.

So no doubt he will pull even more officers from protecting the citizens and his constituents to protecting him and his family. Of course Chicago is safe, for him and his family.

Maybe if the mayor’s party machine judges put away criminals instead of cutting them loose the next the rest of us would be safe. Maybe if we had the police force we were promised the rest of us would be safe and the criminals didn’t have ownership of the streets. Maybe if he wasn’t a self serving scum bag (big surprise for a politican) things would change.

Thankfully the IL NRA and other friends fought for our 2A rights and I can protect my family since he sees it fit to pull badly needed police to protect his. What an f’in coward.

  8. See….24 out of the 25 most violent cities in the U.S. have been run by democrats and their policies for decades…they undermine the police, under staff the police…so they can spend that money on projects that make their friends and themselves wealthy, and as long as the rich, white democrat areas are patrolled by police…they don’t care…and as long as the crime is contained in minority neighborhoods…they don’t care….now that some of the monsters they have created with their social and educational policies are breaking containment….they will need to shuffle police around to cover the break outs…..

      • Hence the nicest way to refer to most inner city residents: low information voters. Without them, the Democratic Party would be doomed.

      • You used the term “minorities”, I noticed. Is that your racist code word for blacks and/or Hispanics? After all, not all minority groups voted Democrat and you didn’t mean to lie through your ever loving racist teeth, did you? A majority of Asians voted Republican in this last election. A majority of American Indians did, too. Hell, even 44% of those who describe themselves as “Other” voted Republican. That’s pretty darn close to, perhaps even statistically insignificantly different from, the 46% of all races (that includes, your presumptive favorite: Whites!) who voted Democrat. You can’t bash the “Others” for voting basically in line with national proportions, can you? That is, unless you’re an Others-bashing kind of guy. Are you………..an Others-bashing kind of guy? Hmmm?

As for voting for free stuff from the government, the fact is that 38% of Whites voted Democrat, but Whites made of 75% of those who voted. Since your past posts just reek of public school, I’ll do the math for you, Lar: that means that 28.5% of all votes cast were by Whites for Democrats. 28.5%! Show me more than a count-on-one-hand number of races where 28.5% voting bloc swing wouldn’t have made a difference. What’s the point? Well, you can’t blame “Minorities” for voting for free stuff, when the numbers prove that it only happens because Whites cast their votes approving the handouts. That’s really more a matter of Whites voting to give gifts, than “Minorities” voting for unjust enrichment, don’t you find?

Speaking of unjust enrichment, 15% of Whites have received food stamps in their lifetimes. Sure, that’s lower than the 31% and 22% figures for Blacks and Hispanics; but then again, Whites comprise some 80% of the U.S. population. Soooo…………who, exactly, is out there doing the most slurping and guzzling at the government trough? Cousin Pookie has to jam in there in between Uncle Bob and Cousin Goober and other Whites, I assure you, to get his fill, despite your racist stereotyping.

While you think about that, think about this: Whites have longer life expectancies than “Minorities” do. Depending upon the year born, the differential is about a dozen years or so. That means that Whites extract from Social Security more in benefits than “Minorities” do. It works out to a net wealth transfer of $10,000 PER PERSON from Blacks to Whites. I DARE you to show me any Congressional candidate whose platform consisted of raising taxes and/or cutting SS benefits exclusively for Whites, to rectify this racist imbalance of Whites voting for free stuff from Blacks.

Sooo…….tell me again who’s doing that free stuff voting? Class dismissed, byotch!

        • How many white folks live in the inner city? That’s what Bill’s comment was in reference to. I think that you’re the one who just got schooled.

        • How many whites in the inner city? Hmmm…don’t know, don’t care. My comment was in response to Larry’s, not Bill’s, as the reply linkage clearly indicates, and my beatdown schooling of him stands.

Soooo…..looks like you shot your mouth off and revealed your visual acuity is as weak as your mental alertness. Too bad, so sad. Any more premature oral ejaculations out of you, or have you shot your pathetic wad for the day? Nice to see you sticking up for your boyfriend, though. Too cute! lol

  9. Some things just appear to be either “poetic justice” or divine laws at work, take your pick, but this one is definitely one or the other.

  10. Hmmm….he wasn’t shot so the Gun-Free-Zone thing seems to be working. Lets expand on that success and put up signs for Crime-Free-Zones so this kind of thing can’t happen anymore.

  11. It should have been Rahm, since he continued the policies that help create this. Maybe the son will have an epiphany if Rahm doesn’t successfully spin it to his son.

    • If a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged then perhaps young Mr. Emanuel is new Republican.

Perhaps the Mayor needs to send his son to Israel and spend some time in the IDF so he can learn to be a man.

      • they may do that just to get the kid out of the country before he has to testi-lie at a trial they moved fast and furious witnesses before so why not this little punk?

      • I hope not! We need fewer Republicans and Democrats in this country; neither party gives a hoot about individual rights except one favorite they’ve picked.

We need a new party, one dedicated to taking back the entire Bill of Rights, one that doesn’t think corporations are more important than people.

  12. Well, there you have it, folks: another conservative is born. This should make Thanksgiving in the Emanuel house kind of interesting for the next couple of decades.

“Dad, you’re not going to get into another argument about gun control with Grandpa Rahm, are you?”

  13. With cops being shot on the street. Rabid (diseased) anti-gunners taking pot shots at us, etc

Isn’t it time to return the favor?

The Liberals are falling apart at the seams. Let’s help them do that!

It was only a mater of time before their lies came home to roost!

  14. At least the kid wasnt hurt.
But the sins of the father come back to roost.
So much for an armed security detail.
Must have been a good game on TV at the time.

  15. I think perhaps I’m not going to inject politics or guns or lack thereof into the incident. The mayor seems to have a nice family going and I’m sorry his son was attacked.

There is enough bleating and ironic commentary, and I’m a little tired of it.

Yes little Virginia, the firearms community can get a little boorish at times. Yes, Vi, i know my own rhetoric is a little heated at times, but I’m trying to change and aim a little truer. The flamethrower stays in the closet this time.

  16. Yep I too have been in this Ravenswood neighborhood. I’m with the pot connection thing. There is a massive disconnect with the tiny dancer. And the Jewish thing. Glad I don’t live in the city…BTW my somewhat anti-gun son (ex-military, DOD, speaks Arabic, etc.) lives in the little town in Maryland where the NY cop killer shot his ex-girlfriend. Where he said nothing ever happens and he has cops on either side. No guns in the house because my 3 young granddaughters might find them…so I really get DISCONNECT. And 11youts were shot at a party a mile from my house last night. One deceased…

  17. Go to Second City Cop blog http://secondcitycop.blogspot.com/ for info on this. The kid apparently likes to Paaartee. May have been a deal gone bad. Plus, since the kid may be an unruly, disrespectful piss ant punk there is speculation that dad may have punched him. Whatever the truth may be, we will never here of it.
Reports of Rahm having his sons phone wiped clean of all texts, photos contact lists and even the operating programs, while the police were attempting to track it’s location, begs the question. Can anyone have their phone turned into a paper weight, through their cell carrier or is that the purview of the DHS , NSA?

      • I lost my work blackberry @ Disney. Called our IT dept and they sent the “kill” signal to deactivate and wipe it. They said it would be cleared within 90 min. someone found it and called my wife’s number on the phone about 20 min later. I was able to get the kill signal stopped, but it is possible.

    • Yeah, the whole story sounds pretty fishy. I highly doubt a couple of muggers just happened to be walking by the mayor’s house and decided to mug the kid a few feet from a cop car. Even in Chicago, that’s a pretty tough story to swallow.

  18. Credit where credit is due – it was the mayor’s son who GOT mugged. In Connecticut, it would have been the governor’s son who DID the mugging.

  19. As much as I feel it’s probably just desserts for Rahm I can never celebrate a kid getting terrorized by crime & injured by a stranger.

    Bad form. Really.

  20. Something is wrong here – you would think that the thieves would not mug the mayor’s family; after all, its just professional courtesy…

  21. “Horse. Barn door.”

Yup. Though I’m sorry about wha happened to the boy, perhaps this will give Rahmy pause to think (for once). But probably not, because liberal Democrap.

  22. Chicago’s a rough city and no doubt decades of Democrat-driven civilian disarmament has given birth and boost to much of its criminal element. Still, this is a seventeen year old kid standing outside, alone, at night, on an inner city street, distracted from his surroundings while using what is, presumably, a valuable smart phone.

In what pro-gunner paradise would an individual in similar circumstances not be expected to be in some heightened degree of danger?

With all due (dis)respect to Chicago, I’d file this under the heading of someone doing something in a stupid place. That can cost you big time no matter your Daddy’s politics.

    • spent much time here or did you just read that too?
even your statistical quoting self could walk around here without a problem as far as eating, drinking, musical, architectural and cultural pursuits are concerned. your dope habits may get you in trouble.

      • Probably not “much” time by your standards, as I’ve never been a permanent resident of Chicago. I spent a summer there taking one class for transfer in grad school, and the rest of that time soaking up the local culture and making the acquaintance of local ladies.

Beyond that, I’ve been back maybe half a dozen times over the years on business for a few days each, taking time out on the side to see what’s changed or what I missed before. (Obviously, I can’t count other times just passing through the airports.)

I’d consider myself one rung up from the bottom in terms of direct Chicago experience, as an out-of-towner. So what? It’s something, and besides, the drug culture you allude to is not an economy of autarky. One needn’t be immersed in it to be impacted by it. Or are you accusing the Mayor’s son of being a gang member?

If I were you, I’d spend less time getting defensive with others over Chicago’s pisspoor reputation among the rest of the country, and more effort trying to change the pisspoor reality that is life in Chicago for many. Good day, sir.

        • if you were me you’d know where the quote, “chicago’s a woman make a young man a bum” comes from.
pisspoor reality= life in the big city.
          bottom rung indeed.
          enjoy the longest darkness.

  23. It is very unfortunate that his son was pummeled and phone snatched from him. But your mistakes do affect your children. But I highly doubt that this incident would change RE’s mind anytime soon. He’ll probably want a ban on using fists as weapons and blame the white oppression for forcing the 2 subjects for attacking his son.

  24. Unfortunately, Rahm is a die-hard liberal which means that reality will be lost on him. This will be spun into a need for more gun laws
