What do you do if you’re the chief executive of a state and you want to ban so-called “assault weapons,” but you’ve never managed to get the legislature to do your dirty work for you? If you’re the governor of Rhode Island, you try to get such a ban by more backdoor means.
According to an alert from Gun Owners of America (GOA), Rhode Island Democrat Gov. Daniel McKee recently inserted funding for a ban on many common semi-automatic firearms into his recently released FY 2026 budget proposal, causing alarm for Ocean State gun owners.
Along with ownership of such guns, the ban would prohibit the future possession, purchase, sale, control and manufacture of many commonly owned firearms used by lawful Rhode Islanders legally and safely every day.
In his address about the new proposed budget, McKee directly addressed the proposal, even mentioning his failure to get such a law passed through the legislature.
“Year after year I’ve stood here and asked the General Assembly to send an assault weapons ban to my desk,” McKee said. “This year, I’m sending you a budget to the General Assembly for the first time (that) will include a ban on assault weapons. Let’s finally get this done.”
Under the header “Promoting Health and Wellness Across Rhode Island,” McKee’s budget states: “Proposing an assault weapon ban to prohibit the future possession, purchase, sale, control, and manufacture of assault weapons. Additionally, the budget includes a sales tax exemption for gun safety goods, such as lock boxes and safes.”
As GOA pointed out in the alert, states like California, Maryland and New York have passed such laws, with no resulting drop in crime.
“Every single one of these states has implemented an ‘assault weapons’ ban, yet none of them have seen a decrease in violence,” the alert stated. “These bans simply don’t work. Instead, what they accomplish is stripping normal, law-abiding gun owners of their rights and ability to defend themselves while failing to stop violent criminals who defy such bans anyway.”
Also in the alert, GOA said that Gov. McKee’s proposal directly infringes on the Second Amendment right of law-abiding citizens, along with completely defying the critical U.S. Supreme Court rulings in Heller, McDonald and, of course, most recently Bruen.
“Now is the time to send a message to the Assembly and the Governor that your constitutional rights matter,” GOA wrote. “Tell your state legislator and Gov. McKee NO to an ‘assault weapons’ ban.”
Such Gun Control Rot warrants hanging a noose and swastika on the democRat governor’s door. Hypocrite ratbassturd has by definition Assault Weapons protecting him…not to worry the same old polite kneepad tit for tat will be there to protect the 2A.
yawn
putz
If Rhode Island residents raised this issue en masse with their Rhode Island politicians, then eventually, SOMEBODY in the press would start reporting on this.
Eventually, the Governor and his liberal democrat lackeys in the RI legislature and courts would have to take cover from accusations of racism, nazism, and any of the other ‘isms that they want no association with.
I don’t live in Rhode Island. But I certainly will level the accusations in my own correspondence with my own state and US legislators. And with my local politicians if opportunity arises.
If we each work on our own local politicians, maybe someday we can meet in the middle. THAT is what grassroots is all about.
Meet in the middle? wtf !? we only get half of our rights? No they can fuck off!
27 words and they need to learn what those words all mean not just half of them
I believe Osprey meant that 2A Advocates should start with their own state politicians and then *those advocates would “meet in the middle” state-to-state … sweeping the country with 2A advocacy.
You raise a chick and the egg issue.
Yes, if people raised the issue the press would have to cover it. But if the press doesn’t cover it how do people know it’s an issue?
Well, they’d have to constantly be on the lookout for issues.
And that’s not going to happen when we can’t even get *hardcore 2A advocates* to read a link, never mind a book, on how their adversaries operate.
It’s literally so bad, Right of center, that you can essentially hand people the enemy’s entire plan book and the people you’re trying to give it to will say “TL;DR”.
And the few that do read, interpret, and apply it are in states where most pro gun people tell them “just move” or other retarded things involving being deserved. Would be less annoying if Bruen came out of Texas.
“Year after year I’ve stood here and asked the General Assembly to send an assault weapons ban to my desk,” McKee said. – So the legislature recognized the gov as a wacko marxist? And/or his idiot ideas are Unconstitutional?
to be fair, rhode island only needs one ar10 with a standard cap mag to defend its’ own borders.
Rogues Island certainly has changed I must say.
Used to be a place to get away from tyrants.
Ahhhh progress.
you can’t get away from anything there.
The only way they can pass this crap is through deception.
SCOTUS needs to grow a set and finally end this horse sheet once and for all !
Agreed. I just dont think they have the courage.
need to ban politicians that infringe on our rights!
I live there, state motto should be ” Corruptus Incompetensus”. (sorry for the poor Latin) McKee is a pinhead who just sucks up to whatever Mass. does. After all, RI in Wampanoag language means Baja Taxachussetts….would have been gone years ago if it wasn’t for family…
A schitt eater!
If we had any serious punching power at the cultural layer, we wouldn’t worry about these things because they’d have no enforcement agents willing to do the job.
But as the Biden Administration proved, even the “good, hardworking and patriotic” .gov employees will do as they are told regardless of what they’re being told to do. From CBP aiding and abetting child trafficking to cops stomping on a citizen’s rights, the mentality of .gov employees is “You got it, boss!” even if what they’re told to do is illegal and they know it.
As has been noted by the esteemed Mr. Malice in discussing the Waco siege, “There is no law so obscene that the police would not be willing to enforce it, up to and including the mass execution of innocent children.”
And people are put off by my insistence of individual machine gun, rpg, and mortar ownership.
As someone once said to me in utter seriousness:
[Close paraphrase follows]
If you can’t level several city blocks with relatively minimal effort, you’re can’t really call yourself “well armed”…
He was, of course, referring to air and artillery support. I agreed then and I agree now. While I suspect that Hellfires are outside most people’s capacity to afford, I bet a city police department starts acting a lot better towards its citizens when they know that the civvies can open up on the police station with M2s and MANPATS.
And this being a free country and shit, I don’t even care if they use Western made MANPATS, buy a Kornet if that’s what floats your boat.
We should be polite yet armed to the teeth and willing to slit throats, burn cities and enslave nations at the National and individual levels IMHO.
