  1. That rumble you hear is the blood pressure of gun control proponents going over the red line trying to find a counter argument.

“Would you shoot me?” Really…you forced your way into someone’s home and refused to retreat when confronted. You are lucky to still be above room temperature.

  2. I knew as soon as I saw her, yep, she was gonna be a bad ass southern woman. I dont think any more perps will be messing with that house after this story spreads around.

    • No, according to mikenumbers and the rest of the brainless antigunners we are supposed to all be victims and like it…

      • MikeBnumbers, I believe, also said that a locked door was good enough protection too. Funny, this guy decided it wasn’t as he made the decision to kick it in and enter.

        • No, a piece-of-shit wooden door with a cheap lock like that is not sufficient. I never said it was. A proper door and if necessary security, bars are sufficient to keep intruders out.

But about the shooting, I think that lady is a hero. It sounds like she displayed the perfect amount of care before deciding to shoot the guy and afterwards there’s no gloating and macho talk like you guys love so much.

The thing I have a problem with is the quote, the misleading and ignorant quote that Dan selected.

“There’s so much talk about banning guns and gun control, but they’re for home protection. And, you know, there’s no way that I could have fought him off.” –

No one I know is pushing for totally banning guns from being used for home protection. “Banning and gun control” are two different things. This is where you gun-rights guys have wrongly educated people about gun ownership. You are the ones who associate “banning and gun control.” And people like this heroic lady buy into it.

        • …and if necessary security, bars are sufficient to keep intruders out.

Right, and the next step after that is cement block walls with shards of glass attached to the top. I guess that’s the world you live in when criminals essentially have free reign to do whatever they please.

And people like this heroic lady buy into it.

What this lady bought into likely saved her life and that of her daughters. Good for her.

        • jeebus mikeybnumbers. every time you post you drive home the need to loosen the gun laws and let more people arm themselves. have you actually read any of your postings? it’s almost like you’re being paid by the nra to discredit the gun control crowd.

  3. Here’s some food for thought to Mikeb30whatever :In Chicago, NYC, most of NJ and California, this woman and her daughters would be a murder statistic-or worse.

I challenge him to explain logically how this woman being killed for lack of a firearm is a morally superior outcome.

    • CA has a strong Castle Doctrine. There is no duty to retreat in one’s home, the homeowner is presumed to have acted in fear of imminent bodily harm to themselves or others when shooting an intruder who they have reason to believe broke in and isn’t an immediate family member.

      • we used to have a duty to retreat in ca even in our homes. now we can even take a gun outside our home to protect the life of another. even in ca things have changed, verry little i admit, a bit for the better in some respects. a good showing in november at the national level might even have some small effect on ca.

    • Not fair to CA. Don’t know about the others, but even in Los Angeles you can buy a gun. They just make it a hassle.

  4. What is up with comments today? They’re pretty jacked up. On to the story, I had something for this…..what was it? Oh yes, clearly compensating for the size of her penis.

  5. Did anyone else notice the door frame? He kicked in the door, and the only place the frame was damaged was at the level of the door knob, not the level of the deadbolt.

I don’t know if the frame is any stronger up at the deadbolt.
I don’t know if it would have given way just as easily.
I do know that the deadbolt was demonstrably not locked when he kicked it.

    Lock your friggin’ doors, people.

    • As you note yourself. You are unsure if locking the deadbolt would have made any difference. Would it have offered a little more resistance with two places locked? more than likely yes. Would it have stopped this guy? probably not, unless the frame did actually hold up. The given evidence would suggest that it might not have.

      • More and more often lately, deadbolts fire into a pocket that has a steel liner, whereas the doorknob latch only fires into a hole drilled into the wood frame with a cosmetic metal plate over top. I know that’s how mine is, because I installed the steel pocket liner for the deadbolt. My knob latch would tear out just like this lady’s did if kicked, but the deadbolt would either break your foot or take a very large chunk of the door framing with it.

        See this picture: http://www.directdoorknobs.com/Shared/Schlage/deadbolts/bedeadbolt_exploded.jpg

A knob latch frequently only has the part marked “Strike” over a hole drilled in the wood. The part marked “Metal Dustbox” is the part I’m referring to. Three 3-1/2″ screws go into the door framing: one in the bottom of the Dustbox, and two through the big holes in the surface flange. Then the cosmetic Strike goes over top, with little 5/8″ screws through it and the small holes in the Dustbox flange.

In any case, even if your deadbolt doesn’t have a steel liner and big screws, by definition it’s still going to double the amount of force required to kick the door open over the knob latch alone.

        Lock your doors.

        • I shouldn’t have to lock my doors. I do, but it shouldn’t be necessary. I’m sure a lot of the older folks remember the days where you didn’t have to. If someone has not been invited into my house then they shouldn’t be there regardless of locked doors.

  6. “Violence never settles anything. This mean-spirited woman should have sat down and reasoned with the poor, misguided youth. Besides, this is just an anecdote and doesn’t prove anything.” Composite quote from mikeb#s, self-anointed expert on self-defense.

“There’s so much talk about banning guns and gun control, but they’re for home protection. And, you know, there’s no way that I could have fought him off.” – Martha Lewis (NOT a victim, and a true expert on self-defense. As in ‘been there, done that’.).

“God created men and women, but Sam Colt made them equal.”

  7. Way to go Martha! Mikeb must be happy that she chose to shoot the intruder (with a gun!) wounding him stopping his attack before Martha’s two daughters ‘killed’ him with the butcher knife and ax in their hands. We must ban those dangerous butcher knives and axes…for the children.

  8. I am sure the liberals are having aneurisms right about now! How can you tell off a nice Southern Mom like that! not gonna happen!!
